    Chapter 22

Ye Xing was drowsy on the back of Qi Guang’s motorcycle.

“Ye Xing, you better hold on tight, or I’ll pretend I don’t know you if you fly off later,” Qi Guang nudged the person behind him with his elbow.

“Huh?” Ye Xing opened his eyes, groggily replying, “Oh…”

Then he hugged Qi Guang tighter.

Qi Guang sped up, and they arrived before long.

After the bike stopped, Ye Xing didn’t move for a long time.

He was really asleep, how could he fall asleep like that?

Qi Guang patted Ye Xing’s leg, signaling him to get off quickly.

This was the third time he had come to Qi Guang’s house, but he never expected this time to be heading straight for the bed.

Ye Xing had noticed long ago that Qi Guang’s house was so clean it felt like no one lived there. Although all the appliances and furniture were complete, there was just no feeling of occupancy. Every corner was tidied to perfection, all the shoes were neatly placed in the shoe cabinet, and there wasn’t even a casually tossed jacket on the sofa. And now, through the half-open wardrobe door, Ye Xing could clearly see all the clothes inside were neatly folded…

It was truly self-disciplined to the point of being abnormal.

“Give me your phone, I’ll charge it for you, you go to sleep,” Qi Guang stretched out his hand.

Ye Xing gave him his phone, “If I sleep on your bed without showering, will you be disgusted?”

Qi Guang sized Ye Xing up and down, then nodded, “Yes.”

He went into the bedroom and took out a set of pajamas, “Put this on, then you’re qualified to get on my bed.”

“Oh.” Ye Xing took the pajamas and went into the bathroom.

As Ye Xing changed, he couldn’t help but sigh, it was truly magical, every time he came to Qi Guang’s house it was after a fight. The first time was when Qi Guang fought with the shorty, the second time was when he fought with Qi Guang, and today, it was after he fought with that beast named Chen Hui.

He wondered who he would have to fight next time to come to Qi Guang’s house.

No, why did he have to come to Qi Guang’s house?

I’m probably dreaming, my mind is such a mess. Not only is it a mess, it’s also dizzy!

The kind where if you gave me a bed, I could collapse immediately.

After changing and going out, Qi Guang was changing the sheets and pillowcases.

He was really like a conscientious little nanny! Ye Xing scratched his hair and walked to the bed, “Such attentive service.”

“Indeed,” Qi Guang patted the newly replaced pillow, “I hope the tip the gentleman leaves this time will exceed five yuan.”

    Ye Xing smiled, squinting, “Idiot.”

“Go to sleep, you can barely keep your eyes open,” Qi Guang lifted the quilt, signaling him to sleep here.

Ye Xing obediently lay down, closing his eyes, “I seriously suspect you drugged me in the alcohol.”

“To live up to your expectations, I’ll find a sugar daddy to pamper you later,” Qi Guang said, tapping Ye Xing’s forehead.

Ye Xing didn’t jump up as Qi Guang had expected, only frowning slightly.

    He’s asleep? That fast?

Logically, I shouldn’t have drugged this guy, and I don’t have that stuff!

Qi Guang reached out, the back of his hand touching Ye Xing’s forehead.

    He really had a fever.

Qi Guang didn’t have much experience caring for the sick, so he took out his phone and texted Shuai Xiaoyun.

-Sis, what medicine should you take for a fever?

Soon Shuai Xiaoyun called back, “You have a fever? Are you home? I’ll come over and find you.”

“No! Sis, don’t come over, it’s not me,” Qi Guang explained.

Shuai Xiaoyun was a bit puzzled, when did Qi Guang start caring about other people?

Qi Guang continued, “It’s my friend, he has a fever, he’s lying on my bed.”

“Your friend?” Shuai Xiaoyun squinted, where did this friend come from, and one who could be brought home, “Girlfriend?”

“Boy…” Qi Guang almost misspoke, then quickly corrected, “Boy! You’ve met him, the one who fought with me at the KTV that day.”

“Hahahahahaha, my brother has grown up!” Shuai Xiaoyun’s arrogant laughter came from the other end of the phone, “He’s not bad looking, and tall, I think it could work.”

Qi Guang suddenly regretted calling Shuai Xiaoyun.

    “Seriously, sis!”

“First go get the thermometer from the medicine box and take his temperature, if it’s above 37.2 degrees, give him some fever reducer, there are some in the medicine box too,” Shuai Xiaoyun said seriously.

“No, does my house even have this stuff?” Qi Guang rummaged through the medicine box, pulling out a thermometer, “Damn, it really does, how come I didn’t know?”

“Of course you don’t know, I bought it last time you had a fever!” Shuai Xiaoyun said loudly.

Qi Guang continued to rummage, and found the so-called fever reducer.

    “Okay, you can go now.”

Shuai Xiaoyun, holding the phone, wished she could reach through and pull Qi Guang’s ear, “You brat, don’t call me next time you’re sick!”

Qi Guang chuckled, “You wouldn’t be so heartless, sis, bye!”

After hanging up the phone, Qi Guang took out the thermometer, shook it hard twice, and turned it to see the mercury had been shaken to a sufficiently low mark.

Qi Guang looked down at Ye Xing, hesitating whether to wake him. He looked very well-behaved while sleeping, his eyes closed tightly, his mouth slightly open, revealing a little of his white teeth.

He was sleeping so comfortably, it was best not to disturb him.

Just putting this thing under his armpit shouldn’t wake him up, right?

Qi Guang bent down and gently moved Ye Xing’s arm.

    He didn’t wake.

Then he slowly inserted the mercury end of the thermometer through the short sleeve cuff…

“Damn?” Ye Xing was startled awake by the cold, strange feeling, and the first thing he saw was Qi Guang’s face magnified before his eyes, “What are you doing?!”

Qi Guang was startled by Ye Xing’s voice, and for a moment he felt a sense of shame for being caught doing something wrong. He quickly explained, “You have a fever, I’m taking your temperature.”

Ye Xing’s eyes were half open, probably not fully awake, and he didn’t move, murmuring, “No wonder, so thirsty.”

After Qi Guang placed the thermometer in the right position, he stood up and walked out, “I’ll pour you some water.”

By the time he returned with the warm water, the other person had already fallen back into a dream, motionless, quiet, even his breathing was very soft.

Qi Guang sat beside him, watching the person sleeping on the bed. Suddenly, he felt a very familiar feeling.

It was as if this person was supposed to appear in his life, he knew everything about his past, knew what he was thinking, knew what he was going to do.

But in an instant, this feeling vanished without a trace.

He was just an ordinary classmate.

A classmate with whom he had shared his thoughts, slept together, someone he barely trusted.

Although this level of classmate was a first in his not-so-long life.

Qi Guang looked at his phone, it was about time. He placed the glass of water on the bedside table, took out the thermometer from Ye Xing’s body, and squinted at the scale while rotating it.

38.5 degrees, he really had a fever.

Qi Guang took out a fever reducer and put it in Ye Xing’s mouth, then lowered his head and gently called out, “Ye Xing.”

“Hmm?” Ye Xing mumbled in his sleep.

“Get up and drink some water, take the medicine,” Qi Guang said softly.

“Hmm,” Ye Xing replied with his eyes closed.

He responded, but his body still had no reaction.

    He was such a kid.

Qi Guang sighed, put his right hand behind Ye Xing’s neck and lifted his head, his left hand holding the glass of water and feeding Ye Xing bit by bit.

Although Ye Xing didn’t open his eyes, his mouth obediently swallowed the water little by little.

Qi Guang was amused by his appearance, and held back his laughter for a long time, slowly putting Ye Xing’s head back in place.

Indeed, he was only this obedient when he was sick!

Qi Guang turned off the lights, gently closed the door, and went to the study with his backpack.

He was surprised to find that he actually had a desire to study.

He wasn’t sure if it was because he finally left Lao Lin’s class, or because he had boasted to someone earlier.

Although the people who truly cared about him were no longer in this world, that drifting and nowhere-to-land feeling seemed to be disappearing little by little.

He understood very well that the feeling was not a short and intense rebellious period, rebellion would not leave him without the desire to live. He had been dragged by Shuai Xiaoyun to see a psychologist several times and had taken a bunch of messy drugs.

If it hadn’t been for Shuai Xiaoyun, he probably wouldn’t have survived to this day.

But luckily, he had Shuai Xiaoyun. Thinking back on that time, it felt so dark it was suffocating.

In short, it was all in the past.

Days were slowly moving in a better direction.

Xu Ge was back. Although they were a bit rusty after not seeing each other for so many years, they didn’t need passionate affection to maintain their relationship. They were already family. When he said, “Qi Guang, you must get into a university, don’t even think about working here when you graduate,” Qi Guang understood.

He had also gotten his wish and left Lao Lin’s class, leaving behind the teaching environment that he had once hated and found so oppressive. Although he couldn’t understand Lu Yueyang, that “nothing matters to me” aura she had made Qi Guang feel more friendly towards her than Lao Lin.

And, there was a vague feeling that seemed to be peace of mind.

He peacefully opened his textbook and plunged headfirst into the sea of learning.

Ye Xing woke up needing to pee, and the darkness made him think he was still dreaming. He fumbled for the phone on the bedside table, looked at it, and saw it was already past midnight.

Scrolling down, he saw all the missed calls and messages from classmate Zhou Tian, then it dawned on him that he was actually at Qi Guang’s house.

And he was wearing Qi Guang’s pajamas.

He suddenly sobered up a lot, his mind quickly flipping through the fragments of memories, explaining to himself why he was here, and what had happened before.

Suddenly, he felt his breathing become difficult, and he smacked his head, telling himself not to think any further.

If it was all a dream, that would be great.

After Ye Xing finished peeing and came out of the bathroom, he saw a faint light seeping through the crack of the study door. He slowly walked over and pushed the door open.

The study was only lit by a desk lamp. Qi Guang was writing something seriously at his desk, the lamp wasn’t particularly bright, the warm yellow light half illuminating the desk, half illuminating his serious face.

In the background was a huge bookcase, fully packed with books from home and abroad.

And in the foreground, Qi Guang, was under the light.

Ye Xing suddenly felt a bit of a time slip, not sure if it was because he wasn’t fully awake, or if Qi Guang was too dazzling at the moment, or maybe Qi Guang’s seriousness while doing homework was too unreal.

Out of an aesthetic urge from a photography enthusiast, he raised his phone and pressed the shutter button.

Unfortunately, he forgot to turn off the sound.

Qi Guang raised his head, “I heard that, pay up!”

“Let me see who is acting cool,” Ye Xing walked over.

“Looks like you haven’t woken up yet,” Qi Guang reached out and turned on the overhead light, and in an instant, bright light poured down, filling the room.

Ye Xing felt a bit of glare, and raised a hand to shield his eyes, “I’m awake, I’m awake!”

“You were actually doing homework?” Ye Xing approached the desk.

Qi Guang glanced at the clock, “It’s twelve already, you must be hungry!”

“You damn actually are summarizing math formulas?” Ye Xing picked up the notebook and looked at it closely.

“I’ll order takeout, what do you want to eat?” Qi Guang took out his phone.

Ye Xing looked at the notebook and then at Qi Guang, feeling incredulous, “You really wrote this? You’ve put in a lot of effort pretending to be a loser!”

“Forget it, at this hour, takeout is just barbecue, you’re sick, you should eat less. I’ll make you some porridge,” Qi Guang said to himself, then got up and went to the kitchen.

Ye Xing sat in the chair that Qi Guang had been sitting in, flipping through Qi Guang’s books and notes. The handwriting was quite beautiful, and the notes were very clear.

Top of the grade in entering the high school department?

    He almost believed it.

Ye Xing took out his phone and opened Weibo.

It was the first time he was afraid of being alone and idle. All the things he avoided thinking about would devour him. He had to find something to do right away to keep all the annoying things out.

The private messages and comments were once again in triple digits. Ye Xing clicked and scrolled down randomly—

[Missing person notice, a certain unknown photography and drawing blogger has been missing for a month.]

[Let’s see if our annual update blogger has posted today, oh, no.]

[Today is Monday, the weather is sunny, Ye Baddie has been gone for 30 days, miss him, miss him, miss him…]

These young girls now, Ye Xing frowned and smiled slightly.

He hadn’t used his real name on Weibo, and the reason these little fans knew his last name was Ye was because he had played a game very well and couldn’t help but take a screenshot and post it on Weibo to show off, and his name in the game, “Your Ye Baddie is not convinced,” had betrayed him. Although he had immediately deleted it after being reminded by his fans, the name “Ye Baddie” had spread.

Speaking of which, since he came to Chen Town, it seemed he hadn’t opened Weibo much, just like he hadn’t opened his camera or his easel.

This time had been truly terrible.

And this terrible life seemed to be set in stone, starting yesterday!

Ye Xing thought about this, feeling a little annoyed, and tossed his phone aside.

    Note
