TSIBAMS Chapter 18
by VolareChapter 18
Ye Xing felt that recently, the frequency of encountering Qi Guang was so high that it seemed deliberately planned.
When Lu Yueyang brought the latter into Class 19 and informed everyone that this was a new student transferred from the next class, his heart was only filled with—Holy crap???
Just a few minutes ago, everyone had just seen off the top student in the class to a key class, and then the last student in the key class was eliminated?
Everyone in the classroom secretly gasped. When did the grade start implementing such a cruel system of survival of the fittest…
“There are currently two empty seats. See where you want to sit.”
Lu Yueyang pointed to the middle seat in the first row, which was the seat of the top student who had just left; the stool was still warm.
Then she pointed to the empty seat next to Ye Xing in the last row of the classroom. Because Ye Xing was originally a transfer student, a desk had been specially moved for him, and the space next to it had been vacant.
Qi Guang walked directly towards the last row.
“Today we’ll be reviewing the last test paper. Everyone take out your papers…” Lu Yueyang was preparing for class at the podium.
Ye Xing had never thought that someone would sit next to him. He had long regarded it as his own territory. There were countless things of his own in the drawer. Seeing that Qi Guang intended to sit here, he lowered his head and started to tidy up.
“What a coincidence. Why do I keep seeing you lately?” Qi Guang sat down and greeted Ye Xing.
Ye Xing shook his head, “You’ve taken my spot, and now you’re stealing my line.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t take your last place.” Qi Guang hung his bag on the chair.
“Bullshit, I’ve never been last!” Ye Xing looked up.
“Oh,” Qi Guang flipped through the various magazines in the drawer, “Impressive. More extracurricular books than textbooks, and you’re not last.”
“Only some of this is mine! Some I don’t even know who contributed; anyway, everyone looks for books here.” Ye Xing explained while cleaning out the drawer, “Holy crap, there’s even ‘Storybook’!”
“Quite unique taste!” Qi Guang gave him a thumbs up.
After tidying up, Qi Guang took out his test paper and started listening to the lecture.
He always gave Lu Yueyang face. He never slept or played on his phone in her class and hardly ever skipped it.
Even when all the teachers of other subjects collectively reported Qi Guang’s various bad habits and increasingly poor grades to Lao Lin, Lu Yueyang always remained uninvolved.
Ye Xing watched Qi Guang attentively taking notes while listening to the lecture. He couldn’t resist mocking, “Are you unwilling to drop to our class and want to catch up?”
“Yeah, I’m already so bad, can’t be worse than you, right?” Qi Guang wrote while quietly retorting.
“What the hell?” The pen that Ye Xing was twirling almost didn’t catch. “Then work harder. Don’t overdo it and accidentally rush back to your class, and then switch Zhou Tian back over here.”
“Hahahaha, are you a gas station? Does everyone come here when they run out of gas?” Qi Guang was successfully distracted by Ye Xing and laughed uncontrollably with his head down.
“Idiot!” Ye Xing cursed.
After the laughing fit passed, Qi Guang slowly said, “I’m not going back. Do you really think that the top student in your class was so outstanding that he was promoted to Class 18? Only naive and pure young boys like you would believe such official statements. Use your little brain and think about it; are there no other more outstanding students in other classes? Which class teacher would be willing to let someone go? I came to your class just because—Lao Lin can’t tolerate me.”
Ye Xing was confused by what he was hearing.
It seemed to make sense, but…
“But how could Lu Yueyang be willing to let you go?” Ye Xing asked.
Qi Guang cleared his throat, “Maybe your class is short on handsome guys, so they took me. It’s not a loss.”
“What the hell, you’ve been waiting for that line all this time?” Ye Xing propped his forehead with his hand, “Where’s your face??”
Just as he finished speaking, Lu Yueyang’s voice came from the podium, “The two students in the last row, I see you have a lot of insight into this question? Why don’t you come up and share it with everyone.”
Everyone’s gaze immediately turned to Qi Guang and Ye Xing.
Holy crap!!
Ye Xing didn’t even know which question was being discussed.
Qi Guang suddenly stood up, “Teacher, Ye Xing told me this question is B.”
“Huh?” Ye Xing looked up at Qi Guang.
Qi Guang secretly mouthed to him, “Idiot.”
Then he pointed to the tenth question in the reading comprehension.
As soon as class was over, Zhou Tian was seen standing at the entrance of Class 19 with a mournful face, as if he were there to visit someone in prison.
Qi Guang pointed to the back door, signaling Zhou Tian to come over.
“What’s with that expression? I want to play ‘Tears in the Iron Cage’ for you.” Ye Xing looked at Zhou Tian with dissatisfaction.
“I’m here to visit you guys who are in dire straits.” Zhou Tian said.
“Pah,” Qi Guang leaned back on his chair, “It should be flourishing. Your brother Qi is very comfortable here!”
“Hey, you are comfortable, but now I have a top student sitting next to me. There’s no one to chat with during class. I’m suffocating.” Zhou Tian sighed after speaking.
“It’s because you talk too much. Finally, someone can cure you.” Qi Guang sneered.
“Hey! So you’re not the one who used to chat with me in class?” Zhou Tian glared at Qi Guang, then dragged Ye Xing out, “Ye Xing, let’s go pee!”
“I don’t want to pee!” Ye Xing didn’t want to move.
“Let’s go get some air. The air around you has been polluted by that kid!” Zhou Tian dragged Ye Xing out.
Qi Guang watched them leave and felt bored. He went up to the rooftop alone to smoke.
Smoking in the bathroom was risky; if he ran into a teacher, it would be another essay.
Going to the roof was troublesome, but it was generally empty, free, and the air was better.
Qi Guang had just lit his cigarette and hadn’t had a chance to smoke when he heard the sound of the door opening behind him.
It was Lu Yueyang.
She didn’t show a hint of surprise when she saw Qi Guang.
“Lend me a light.” Lu Yueyang took out a cigarette.
“Yeah.”
Qi Guang took out his lighter and lit it for her directly.
The wind on the rooftop was really strong. Half of the cigarette was blown away by the wind. In no time, Qi Guang had finished his cigarette.
Qi Guang originally wanted to light another one, but with a teacher around, he felt a little uncomfortable, so he prepared to leave.
As he turned around, he heard Lu Yueyang’s voice, “Qi Guang.”
Qi Guang stopped, “Hmm?”
“I’ve bet my entire career on you. All the other teachers are waiting to see me make a fool of myself.” Lu Yueyang’s voice was laced with laughter.
“Are you sure this is your career?” Qi Guang retorted, emphasizing the “you” when he said it.
“It would still be unpleasant to be laughed at by other teachers.” Lu Yueyang said.
Qi Guang laughed too, but his smile carried his usual self-mockery, “If Teacher Lu puts it that way, I feel immense pressure.”
Just then, the class bell rang.
“Isn’t pressure what you lack the most?” Lu Yueyang extinguished her cigarette on the railing and walked toward the door, “The bell rang, let’s go.”
Lu Yueyang was spot-on.
Many times, he felt like he was floating—not the kind of floating that meant freedom, but the kind where he had nowhere to land.
Whether his grades were good or bad, what university he got into, no one would care. Even if he disappeared from this world, the earth would still keep rotating.
Ever since his closest relatives had passed away, ever since he returned to this small town alone, he felt like he was just living aimlessly.
There was no one to put pressure on him, so he sometimes didn’t know why he was living, much less why he was studying.
The three elements of happiness: having something to do, having something to look forward to, and being able to love.
He didn’t have any of them.
He could barely say that he had something to do. The endless jobs and homework stuffed into his head merely filled his empty life.
After returning to the classroom, Qi Guang received a message from Brother Xu.
– The person you asked me about last time is called Chen Hui. I’ll send you his photo. See if it’s this person.
Then he received a photo.
The person in the photo was wearing a vest and tight jeans. The skull tattoo on his arm was very obvious.
The jeans were also very similar to what he had seen in the surveillance footage that day.
Qi Guang handed the phone to Ye Xing, “See if it’s this guy?”
“Holy crap!” Ye Xing almost caused the teacher to notice with his excited voice, so he lowered his voice and asked, “They found him?!”
“Is it him? This guy’s name is Chen Hui.”
“It’s him! I’m not face-blind.” Ye Xing was very sure.
Ye Xing’s memory was usually very good. Although he wasn’t able to remember everything at a glance, he could generally remember people he had met.
Qi Guang took back his phone and replied to Brother Xu.
– It’s him. Any other information about him?
– He’s working at a construction material factory on the east side. I need to inquire about the name of the factory. Oh, he knows the guy who scratched you last time; they both follow Li Zhendong.
The guy who scratched me?
– You mean he’s with that shorty?
– Yep.
– Who is Li Zhendong?
– Not someone to mess with. Qi Guang, did you get into some trouble?
– It’s nothing, Brother Xu. See you tonight.
– I won’t be there tonight. Keep an eye out for me.
Qi Guang replied with an “OK” emoticon and then opened the picture again, scrutinizing it carefully.
At that moment, Ye Xing’s phone reached over and pressed the capture button on the photo.
“What are you doing?” Qi Guang looked up at Ye Xing.
“Taking a photo! Isn’t it obvious?” Ye Xing put his phone away in his drawer.
“Why do you want a photo? Are you going to avoid him? Don’t worry, your build isn’t something he can easily beat!” Qi Guang mocked.
Ye Xing was nonchalant, “I’m going to put his photo by my bedside to ward off evil spirits!”
“Alright, alright, I hope you don’t have nightmares sleeping next to him.” Qi Guang opened his book and ignored him.
Hearing about sleep, Ye Xing yawned.
Ever since talking to Fang Rong on the phone a few days ago, he hadn’t slept well. Especially as the day of Fang Rong’s arrival approached, he couldn’t sleep peacefully.
The uneasy feeling in his heart was growing increasingly clear. Sometimes he could clearly feel his own heartbeat while lying in bed.
Yesterday, Fang Rong had sent a message saying she would arrive tonight. Ye Xing was still angry about their last phone call and didn’t reply.
As a result, he hadn’t slept all night.
He suddenly wished school would end later. He knew that tonight would be a good opportunity to investigate the truth, but he was afraid that there were some things he couldn’t handle.
Fang Rong hadn’t mentioned Ye Xing’s father in a long time.
And this time, she was coming alone.
Ye Xing suddenly felt very tired. The history teacher’s mouth was opening and closing on the podium, as if singing a lullaby.
He really wanted to close his eyes. He couldn’t hold on anymore.
Could he just close them for a moment?
Ye Xing propped his chin with his left hand, while his right hand remained in a writing posture. As soon as he closed his eyes, he immediately fell into a dream.
Qi Guang felt that his deskmate hadn’t moved for over ten minutes. When he looked over, he realized that the other person was sleeping.
He could even fall asleep in that position.
Qi Guang secretly took a picture of his “elegant” sleeping position. He opened Zhou Tian’s chat box, wanting to send it over and have a laugh, but he hesitated and didn’t hit send.
Forget it; if that guy found out, he’d definitely jump up again.
After all, that guy was like a frog.
