Chapter 4: Mu Chuang Curses

Lin Xi’s expression froze, but his heart was pounding like a drum. How was he supposed to answer such a crucial question?

“No… didn’t laugh at anything,” he hurriedly blurted out, grasping for an excuse. “Just suddenly thought of a joke and couldn’t help it.”

Even after saying it, he was still anxious, afraid that the other person wouldn’t let the matter drop.

“Is that so?” Mu Chuang smiled slyly, throwing away the cigarette butt in his hand, as if he wouldn’t give up until he got to the bottom of things. “Why do I feel like, does Lin Xi have an opinion of your Bro Chuang?”

The word “opinion” held a lot of implications. Although he said it subtly, Lin Xi felt a sense of tension, making every nerve in his body tighten instantly.

“Bro Chuang,” he suddenly said pitifully, his face full of pleading, “Please don’t ask, okay? If you’re like this, I won’t dare to smile at you anymore.”

“Besides, what opinion could I possibly have of you? You watched me grow up. Don’t you know what kind of person I am?” He was both acting shamelessly and being a bit coquettish, trying to get away with it by using this method.

This was something he had been used to doing in front of Mu Chuang since he was little. As long as he acted like this, Mu Chuang would always agree to everything he said. He wouldn’t ask about things he didn’t want to answer, and he would try his best to satisfy whatever he wanted. In the other person’s eyes, he was like his own younger brother.

Perhaps it was because of the other person’s tolerance and care that Lin Xi developed a feeling of dependence on him, but he didn’t realize that this feeling slowly changed as he grew up—

He fell in love with him, he wanted to entrust his whole life to him, he wanted to possess him, and he wanted to follow him around inseparable.

However, these changes of his went completely unnoticed by Mu Chuang before he returned to the village, until now…

Mu Chuang stared at him intently, as if he wanted to see through him.

But soon, he suppressed the changes in his eyes, because Lin Xi was someone he had watched grow up, and they had a deep friendship between them. If he made wild guesses and hurt their brotherhood, it would be difficult to smooth things over.

“Alright, seeing Lin Xi’s aggrieved look, if your Bro Chuang keeps pressing, I’m afraid you’ll cry. If word gets out, people will think I’m bullying you.”

Lin Xi finally breathed a sigh of relief, and then, the next second, he heard Mu Chuang cursing, “Damn it, are they rushing to be reborn or something? Why are they driving so fast, afraid of being late?!”

Lin Xi followed his gaze and saw a car speeding past on the narrow village road, without even honking its horn, brushing against their car before flying off towards the front.

“Motherfucker,” Mu Chuang cursed succinctly, “The new year has just started, do you not want to live anymore, you motherfucker?”

He continued to curse, his anger still not subsided, launching a barrage of choice words at the driver who had sped past.

Lin Xi listened silently, occasionally unable to help but smile. This was the Mu Chuang he was familiar with, completely different from how polite he was to him.

After listening to his string of curses, the tension from just now was completely swept away. At this moment, he was even in the mood to re-appreciate the unfamiliar scenery outside.

The distant mountains were hazy, undulating and hidden in the morning mist, only revealing a bit of their peaks, like a celestial realm in the sky, or like the mythical islands in the vast East Sea, running backwards in rows against the backdrop of the luxury car’s journey.

Lin Xi watched, unable to take his eyes away, and didn’t even notice that Mu Chuang had stopped cursing at some point.

The entire way was quiet. They stopped halfway for a meal, Mu Chuang generously paid the bill, and then they continued on.

Until evening, the two of them got out of the car again for dinner. Lin Xi originally thought that Mu Chuang would find a hotel to rest, but who knew that he was as energetic as an ox, not feeling tired at all. After eating, they continued on the road, saying that the company had matters waiting for him to go back and deal with as soon as possible.

Lin Xi obediently followed him into the car. When it got late, there was no scenery to see outside, and he unknowingly fell asleep leaning against the seat.

Although the car had the heat on, Mu Chuang was still worried that he would get cold. While driving, he freed up one hand and took the blanket from the side to cover him.

When Lin Xi woke up, it was already bright. The blanket covering him was warm and cozy, giving him the feeling of wanting to stay in bed in the morning like he did at home.

He secretly glanced at the man who was driving, wondering how he could be so energetic. From yesterday until now, he didn’t seem to have rested much.

“So much energy.” He praised in his heart, suddenly realizing something, a rush of heat climbed onto his face, immediately turning it red.

“Lin Xi, are you awake?” Although Mu Chuang was driving, he didn’t miss the movements beside him. When Lin Xi opened his eyes, he saw it.

“Mm.” Lin Xi said muffledly, wrapped in the blanket, “Are we almost there?”

“Soon.” Mu Chuang glanced at him, seeing his face as red as an apple. Considering that he had just woken up, he didn’t think much of it. “About ten more minutes.”

Lin Xi’s sleepiness completely disappeared upon hearing this.

He immediately sat up straight, curiously looking at the city where he was about to begin his new life, feeling that the streets were much more bustling than those in his hometown.

The luxury car continued forward, eventually turning into a side road and entering a wide factory area.

The gatekeeper smiled and let them through, but couldn’t help but ask when he saw the person in the passenger seat, “Who is this?”

“My brother.” Mu Chuang said, following the rules and asking Lin Xi to show his ID card and register. After finishing, he drove the car to the bottom of a building.

“We’re here.” He let out a sigh of relief, feeling a sense of relief.

Lin Xi finally realized that he also got tired, he just hadn’t shown it.

Mu Chuang got out of the car first, and then called out to Lin Xi, “Get down, follow me upstairs first.”

The management personnel and ordinary employees of their company lived separately, with their own separate rooms, fully equipped with kitchens and bathrooms, with relatively good treatment.

The only downside was that it was limited to one or two people living there, not as spacious as a family home.

The two of them went up to the third floor together.

“Just live with me, don’t squeeze into a dormitory with others, it’s noisy as hell at night.” Mu Chuang opened the door, put down his suitcase, and said to Lin Xi.

Lin Xi was stunned, his mind racing with all sorts of chaotic thoughts, and then he agreed.

It wasn’t that he was eager to live with Mu Chuang, but in this situation, if he didn’t agree, he was afraid that the other person would think that he didn’t know what was good for him, and that he was ungrateful.

Lin Xi placed his suitcase next to Mu Chuang’s against the wall, and then began to observe the interior of the room.

Although the room wasn’t wide, it had everything, with a separate bathroom and kitchen, the only thing missing was a living room.

Outside the kitchen was the bedroom, which was also the main body of the room. Besides being able to fit a double bed, there was extra space for a few people to walk around, and some small furniture could be placed.

There was a window on the wall next to the bed. Through the window, you could see a part of the factory area. Outside the window was a lychee tree that was not young. The crown even exceeded the top of the third floor, making the room not very bright, but it gave people a comfortable sleeping environment just right.

Lin Xi liked it at first sight.
