AWDC Chapter 38
by VolareChapter 38: The Appearance of Male Supporting Character Number Two
“Next time is next time, we’ll talk about it if you do it again,” Zhao Yuming said with a stern face, seemingly not intending to let these gossiping workers off the hook. “Today it’s a fine of fifty for the first offense, double that for the next. Don’t think you can get away with it.”
After he finished speaking, he turned and entered the workshop, going to his desk. Before long, the names of the several workers who had been gossiping about Lin Xi appeared on the wall at the front of the workshop, each fined 50.
The workers’ faces turned green, but they stubbornly held back, not daring to make a peep.
Lin Xi was grateful from the bottom of his heart, suddenly feeling that the pain in his body wasn’t so bad anymore. He gathered his strength and began moving things again.
It has to be said that the psychological effect of a person is very useful. It can overcome physical torment and eliminate physical pain. Once there is no pressure in the heart, the whole person will feel much more relaxed.
After work, Lin Xi felt that he could still move, so he planned to go out and buy some late-night snack to treat himself for his hard work.
Unexpectedly, someone called out to him from behind. Turning his head, he saw that it was none other than Zhao Yuming.
Lin Xi was immediately a little confused, not knowing why Zhao Yuming was looking for him after work.
“Supervisor…” He didn’t know his last name yet, so he could only address him like this, “…is there something you need?”
“Just call me Brother Ming,” Zhao Yuming said with a smile, seemingly without any important business. “If you really can’t take it, you can take a day off tomorrow.”
“…?” Lin Xi was even more confused. They had only just met, yet the other party was already telling him to call him “Brother Ming” and even allowing him to take a day off tomorrow. It was unbelievable, especially since the other party was a supervisor. How could he care so much about an ordinary employee?
“Super…”
“Call me Brother Ming,” Zhao Yuming interrupted him with a smile. “I think it sounds more comfortable that way.”
“Brother…Ming…” Lin Xi called out awkwardly, feeling that it didn’t roll off the tongue as smoothly as when he called Mu Chuang. “…Can I really take a day off tomorrow?”
“Of course,” Zhao Yuming said with a smile, walking closer, one hand inserted into his pocket, his stance very gentlemanly. “It’s already good that your body can last for two days. I can see that you’re working hard, but you can’t overdraw your body. Take a proper rest, and you’ll get used to it.”
Lin Xi was filled with gratitude, even a little incredulous. He originally thought it was a place that made him despair, but he didn’t expect a miracle to be born, allowing him to meet a benefactor in his life, someone who helped him escape from suffering.
“Thank you, Brother Ming.” The address instantly became more natural, and the smile on the other party’s face made him feel incredibly comfortable. “Then I can just not come tomorrow?”
Zhao Yuming smiled faintly, “You need to write a leave request for me to approve, otherwise it will be considered absenteeism.”
“Okay.” Lin Xi happily nodded in agreement. “Thank you, Brother Ming. If you don’t mind, let me treat you to a late-night snack.”
He wasn’t someone who took the good deeds of others for granted. He didn’t want to owe anyone, no matter the time. Zhao Yuming was willing to give him a day to rest, so of course he had to thank him.
“Okay.” Zhao Yuming still maintained a faint smile, the gaze he fixed on Lin Xi full of ambiguous meanings, but devoid of malice.
“What does Qiqi like to eat?” He walked side by side with Lin Xi, seemingly asking casually, but he wasn’t.
Lin Xi was surprised by that form of address. They had only just met, yet he was already calling him that. Wasn’t that a little too intimate?
But he couldn’t point it out directly, or it would seem like he didn’t know how to appreciate kindness, so he could only ignore it and reply, “I’m not a picky eater, anything is fine. I just don’t know what Brother Ming likes. Whatever you like, I’ll treat you to.”
Although he didn’t have much money, he could still afford a late-night snack. At worst, he would be a little more frugal later to make up for tonight’s expenses.
“I’m not picky either, but it’s best to eat something light in the evening, not too spicy.” Zhao Yuming replied. Although he said he wasn’t picky, he still made a small request, excluding a series of spicy things.
“Okay,” Lin Xi nodded, “I understand.”
However, he didn’t know that Zhao Yuming’s request wasn’t for himself, but for Lin Xi. He didn’t want pimples to grow on that fair face of his, so he euphemistically expressed his suggestion.
Lin Xi went with him to the snack shop at the factory entrance. This was a place he could never bear to eat at himself, even if it was just something around 10 yuan, he thought it was too expensive.
Tonight, for the sake of treating Zhao Yuming, he made an exception.
He ordered two clay pot rice noodles, not spicy, with a fresh flavor. Inside were mushrooms, ham, seaweed strips, bean sprouts, quail eggs, and sliced lean meat. Overall, it was good.
The shop was doing good business, and they could only sit at a table near the door. While waiting, Zhao Yuming would occasionally stare at Lin Xi’s face, his eyes filled with rich emotions.
But Lin Xi, because of the other party’s status as a supervisor, didn’t dare to look directly into his eyes. Therefore, he didn’t notice the emotions in his eyes, only knowing that he would occasionally look at himself. Without thinking too much, he thought it was normal.
After waiting for a while, the rice noodles were served. Zhao Yuming pushed the bowl that was brought over first to Lin Xi, telling him to eat first. Then soon, the next bowl came.
He ate very politely, not like Mu Chuang who devoured his food. He looked like a refined gentleman, making people feel inexplicably comfortable when getting along with him.
During that time, he played with his phone. When Lin Xi went to pay the bill, the boss said to him, “Your friend has already paid. He comes here often and has my WeChat.”
Lin Xi was stunned, at a loss for a moment. He was supposed to be treating the other person, but now he was being treated. Suddenly, he felt like he was in debt again.
“Brother Ming, why did you pay? I was supposed to treat you.” Lin Xi looked distressed. He hadn’t even finished paying off the last creditor, and now another one came along. He felt like he would never be able to pay it off.
“It’s okay,” Zhao Yuming said with a faint smile. “You just got here and haven’t received your salary yet. If I really let you treat me, I’d be too unethical.”
“…!” Lin Xi was speechless. He could say whatever he wanted in front of Mu Chuang, but this person, he wasn’t very familiar with, and he would offend him if he didn’t speak well.
In the end, he had no choice but to remain silent, then say in his heart, “I freeloaded off of him again. When I get my salary, I must treat him back.”
Early the next morning, he endured the pain all over his body and handed in a leave request. Zhao Yuming bypassed the group leader and approved it directly, then he went back to sleep.
After a day of rest, he felt much better, but he still worked for two days and then took another day off. Each time, Zhao Yuming would approve it for him. Until he slowly adapted, the time between his leave requests grew longer and longer, from three days to five days, and then to a week.
He would have a day off on Sunday, so he wouldn’t need to ask for leave anymore. At most, he wouldn’t go out to play like others, using this day to rest and prepare for the next day of work.
