AWDC Chapter 34
by VolareChapter 34: Mu Chuang Dislikes that Lin Xi is Dirty
Lin Xi didn’t make a sound.
He didn’t know how to answer, wanting to explain but not knowing where to start. Then he thought that since Mu Chuang didn’t mind, there was no need for him to overthink it. He nodded lightly and said “Mmm,” letting the matter drop.
After Mu Chuang paid the bill and came back, the doctor applied medicine to his wound and prescribed some oral medication. After getting the medicine, Mu Chuang took him back.
On the way, Lin Xi would glance at Mu Chuang from time to time, his affection overflowing, his bashful appearance cautious to the point of being heartbreaking.
Mu Chuang drove, seemingly aware, yet seemingly too lazy to care, playing it cool.
It wasn’t until they entered the factory gate, reached the dormitory building, and parked the car that he got out and instructed Lin Xi, who followed him out of the car, “Next time someone bullies you, call the police yourself. Don’t expect me to help you every time.”
Then he headed straight for his residence without looking back, not even glancing at Lin Xi again.
Lin Xi, however, kept staring at his back until he disappeared into the stairwell, then he withdrew his gaze. He looked lost, not sure how long he stood in front of the car before slowly returning to the dormitory.
The people in the corridor had already dispersed, and occasional snores came from the dorm rooms, indicating that the employees had gone to rest.
The light in room 304 was still on, as if it was specially left for Lin Xi, but in reality, they were still discussing the topic of the evening, each as if they had been injected with stimulants and weren’t sleepy yet.
Lin Xi pushed the door open, and the noise stopped abruptly.
After what happened earlier, the two who had egged on Wu Liangde had also become much more docile. The others held a detached attitude, giving Lin Xi a place to barely stand.
The next day, Wu Liangde’s wife also resigned, and the two were never seen around the factory area again.
The commotion last night was so great that the workshop was buzzing as soon as work started today until Mu Chuang arrived, and then it quieted down.
Fu Xiaoling was absent-minded. She had always pretended to be aloof, but when she learned about Mu Chuang’s domineering manner in standing up for Lin Xi last night, she finally couldn’t hold back.
At lunchtime, she went to see Mu Chuang, subtly asking about this and that, and only left relieved after his answers dispelled her concerns that the two of them might rekindle their relationship.
During that time, she also tried to get close to Mu Chuang, but he rejected her, citing that he didn’t rest well last night.
For some reason, since that night with Lin Xi, Mu Chuang seemed less interested in women. Although he wasn’t very enthusiastic before, it seemed even worse now.
Although he had designated Fu Xiaoling as a potential girlfriend, it was only from an objective point of view. He only knew that he had to follow the laws of nature, marry a woman, get married, and then have a son to support him in his old age.
Fu Xiaoling met his criteria for choosing a partner in every way. Marriage seemed to him to be just a procedure. He regarded it as an indispensable part of life, something he had to do, nothing more.
Life went on uneventfully for two days, but for Lin Xi, it was unpleasant. Wherever he went, he couldn’t avoid hearing people talking about him, with disdain, sarcasm, and contempt.
Of course, there were also some different voices, some people paying attention to the progress of his relationship with Mu Chuang, mostly from some young women, who liked to ship them in secret, as if they were particularly interested in him and Mu Chuang.
But this group was far smaller than the group that opposed him. What he heard the most every day was still ridicule and contempt.
If it weren’t for Wu Liangde’s example, who knew how many people would blatantly step on his head.
For this alone, he was grateful to Mu Chuang, grateful for his decisiveness and ruthlessness, not leaving Wu Liangde any room, otherwise, he was afraid he wouldn’t be able to stay here for even a day.
After two days of medication, he felt that the wound on the corner of his mouth had almost healed, so he removed the gauze, leaving a faint red scar on his beautiful face, which looked a little out of place, as if someone couldn’t stand the sight of beautiful things and deliberately ruined it.
The bed sheets on the balcony were dry, and Lin Xi hesitated whether to return them to Mu Chuang.
After all, they were someone else’s things. It wouldn’t be right to throw them away, but keeping them made him uneasy. After thinking about it, he decided to return them to him.
He glanced at the building next door outside the dormitory and saw that the lights were on in Mu Chuang’s room, so he folded the clean bed sheets and carried them downstairs.
When he stepped into the stairwell leading to Mu Chuang’s room again, his heart rate immediately accelerated, and he was so nervous that his hands holding the sheets were clenched tightly together.
He felt his legs were weak, and he took a breath and went up to the third floor. He reached Mu Chuang’s door, but unexpectedly, the door wasn’t closed. As soon as he appeared outside, Mu Chuang saw him.
Lin Xi stopped, looking at the man who was also looking at him in surprise, so nervous that he almost couldn’t stand.
Fortunately, Mu Chuang only glanced at him and then withdrew his gaze, continuing to sit on the bed and smoke.
The room was full of smoke. He didn’t know when he started smoking, nor how many he had already smoked. The trash can by the bed was full of smoke. Presumably, the cigarette butts weren’t extinguished before being thrown in.
He looked at the emptiness in front of him, ignoring Lin Xi’s arrival.
“Chuang ge,” Lin Xi mustered his courage and walked in, placing the washed bed sheets at Mu Chuang’s feet, “These are yours. I washed them clean and brought them back to you.”
His voice was very low, as if afraid that the other would suddenly lose his temper at him. All his movements were cautious.
“It’s just a bed sheet. If it’s dirty, just throw it away. Why bring it back?” Mu Chuang took a puff of smoke, exhaled, and said expressionlessly.
He flicked the ashes into the trash can and then continued to smoke.
“Smoking too much is bad for your health. You should try to smoke less.” Lin Xi ignored what he had just said and couldn’t help but care about him.
Mu Chuang showed a contemptuous expression, feeling that Lin Xi’s concern for him was purely superfluous.
“I have people who care about me and people who remind me. It’s not your turn to say anything,” he exhaled another puff of smoke, his words cold, “Take the bed sheets back. Either throw them away or keep them. I don’t use such dirty things.”
He seemed to not notice when he said these words that he was still sitting on the one Lin Xi used, and he didn’t know why, but he hadn’t changed it yet.
Lin Xi didn’t seem to hear his hidden meaning and still honestly said, “I washed them clean. There isn’t a single trace. They’re not dirty.”
Mu Chuang suddenly threw the cigarette butt away, stood up, and wearing slippers, was about to hit Lin Xi, but stopped when he noticed the scar on the corner of his mouth.
Lin Xi subconsciously took two steps back, looking at the man’s reaction in horror. A sour feeling welled up in his heart and turned into tears that flowed from the corners of his eyes.
