Chapter 65: Chapter 65 “Male parent, are you willing to serve as the Fourth…”

–But is this the love of a Chong cub for its male parent?

Serra’s mind was filled with a booming sound, he raised his eyes to look at Edwin, his ears filled with ominous white noise. His Adam’s apple trembled as he swallowed, and after a long while, he finally spoke,

“What else could it be, male parent? Of course it is–the way you want it to be.”

Edwin’s pair of blue eyes narrowed slightly with anger. In the past, his eyes were always clear and bright, his Zhanblue eyes could remind Serra of everything boundless and vast, but when Edwin was angry, the light in his eyes settled, like bright light falling on a sapphire, the light was dazzling and sharp.

“I may not understand these things, Young Male Master, everything about emotions and love was taught to me by you.” Edwin’s voice was a little lower than usual, but still gentle, each word clear:

“But I’m not really stupid. No male Chong, or female Chong, would be so eager to give their life for their male parent, and I’m not even your biological male parent.”

There was not much emotion in his voice, but it made Serra shrink his broad shoulders and back, barely suppressing the expression on his face to avoid showing any guilt or being caught red-handed.

Edwin couldn’t possibly understand. Serra repeated to himself in his heart. This had nothing to do with Edwin’s intelligence; female Chongs were like blank slates when it came to emotions, but Serra had thousands of years of human wisdom to hide the truth. He couldn’t let Edwin know what it was, those dirty desires, addictive entanglements, and uncontrollable cravings…female Chongs didn’t need to accept all of this.

“Male parent, I don’t understand what you’re saying. I’ve always been excluded from society. My disability as a Chong cub, remember? I’ve always been strange, that’s how it is for you, and even more so for male Chongs of the same gender as me. Later, I met you…snatch mother is above, I can’t bear the thought of losing you again, no matter the cost. You can blame me, male parent, but the protective desire we have for each other is the same, it’s a mutual relationship, you can’t blame me just because I’m like you. In the end, our relationship is equal and fair, I believe you are to me as I am to you.”

Serra maintained a calm facade, but his heart was already extremely flustered. After all, he had received higher education in human society. The human ability to master language and the opportunistic word traps gave him room to play. It wasn’t the first time he had deceived Edwin, but it didn’t feel any better.

Guilt accumulated in his chest, but he didn’t stop. Even if he didn’t want to think deeply, he knew how to accurately hit the female Chong’s soft spot—Edwin felt sorry for him, felt sorry for everything he had encountered as a Chong cub, almost to the point of blindness, and throwing out some words that were unfamiliar to female Chongs, such as equality, mutual, and fairness, could shift the female Chong’s attention.

Serra was very good at doing this, no less than the hatred he felt for this behavior.

Edwin’s expression softened as expected. Stimulating the unconditional love and inexplicable pity in his heart for Serra was always effective, and Serra gave a seemingly panicked and innocent smile, carefully picking up Edwin’s hand and pressing it against his own handsome face.

“Male parent, I know all of this is very unfamiliar and unfair to you. I threw out the topic of ‘love’ hoping to get your feedback, but you don’t have to accept all my quirks. Love itself has nothing to do with identity, it’s just…naturally exists in my life. If it bothers you, you don’t have to give me anything in return.”

Serra shifted the focus of his words to “love.” He knew that in terms of word games, his level was several galaxies away from Edwin’s. Edwin’s fingers, pressed against his face, paused blankly, as if confused by the facial lines that were completely different from those of his cubhood.

“Young Male Master, cubs should not desperately protect their male parent. This does not conform to the instinct of life reproduction.”

Serra understood what Edwin meant. In nature, the genetic instinct of most adult female bodies will make them blindly protect their offspring. This is the rule of gene continuation. In Chong society, this is even more prominent. Precious male Chong cubs will never lose their lives for female Chongs, no matter what their status.

“I understand, I understand.” Serra almost groaned in pain:

“But male parent, a Chong can’t always act according to genetic instinct. Some things are far more important than genes and life, some things are far above my interests, and that’s also the reason you fight for, isn’t it? You are also protecting me, male parent, for the sake of snatch mother! You have been eagerly protecting me, you are willing to lose your life for this, is it just because I am your male son without blood ties?”

Serra retorted, and Edwin’s hand instantly stiffened. He seemed stunned for a few seconds, the anger in his eyes faded, the light was shattered, flickering uncertainly, making Serra instantly regret his aggressiveness.

He didn’t want to force Edwin’s emotions, let alone force Edwin to accurately express a definition that he couldn’t understand at all. Playing word games with female Chongs was by no means a fair battle. He quickly apologized:

“Male parent, I’m sorry. I know you treat me as your cub, I’m sorry, I’m not implying anything…”

    “You are my cub.”

Edwin said suddenly, his voice a little louder than before, but tightly strained, and his always frank gaze became flickering, but still stubbornly looking at Serra, his crystal clear eyes with a trace of fear that made Serra’s heart ache.

    “You are my cub.”

The female Chong stubbornly repeated, not knowing who he was trying to convince. His fingers lost their color, hastily leaving the male Chong’s stiff cheek, and curled up on his own knee:

“You promised, you promised, you said you would only be my Chong cub, you said everything would be as if it never happened. You promised…” The female Chong’s almost shattered gaze finally tore away from the male Chong’s face in embarrassment. He lowered his head, and a wet trace loomed in the shadow behind his black hair:

“Was there something I didn’t do well? I won’t ask again, I…I’m just afraid, the day we face the church, you…your body was almost torn apart by the power of the artifact, and you turned back and smiled at me, you said let me go first, and then you would come to me, you were lying!”

The female Chong’s body began to tremble slightly, his broad back shrunk on the back of the airship’s seat, his pale fingers lost the last trace of blood, trembling as he tore his own protective suit:

“You shouldn’t die for me, male Chongs shouldn’t protect their male parent like this! I harmed you, this kind of love harmed you. I don’t want you to become like this. From ancient times to the present, no male Chong has put himself in danger for such unimportant reasons. I don’t want you to love me, Young Male Master, whether it’s the love of a male Chong for his male parent, or some emotion I don’t understand, I just want you to stop doing this.”

“I don’t want to harm you. This emotion is wrong, morbid, it will ruin you.”

Serra maintained the appearance of being pushed away, losing all words. He watched Edwin’s bright tear stains, his chest belatedly throbbing, clamoring and tearing at his heart.

He understood everything, Edwin’s extremely rare anger, inexplicable insight, and hysteria, he understood everything.

The seed of fear in Edwin’s heart was planted by him personally, on the day before his transformation. He was killed by the power of the artifact in front of Edwin. His concealment and nonchalant comfort to Edwin before his death left Edwin with a huge psychological shadow, so that when he faced the danger of the royal family again, and whitewashed the truth in front of Edwin, the female Chong’s long-suppressed fear finally broke out.

But understanding all of this did not alleviate Serra’s heartache. He raised his hand several times in a loss, wanting to wipe away the tears on Edwin’s face, but he didn’t dare to do so. His chest was flustered as if he had swallowed a thousand butterflies, his eyes filled with tears for every word Edwin said.

“Male parent, why don’t you understand?” Serra took a long time to find his voice:

“Why don’t you understand that you are never unimportant, you are my world, I came for you, do you believe me?”

Serra trembled as he held Edwin’s hand back, and perhaps because his hand was trembling so badly, Edwin did not refuse.

“The stupid one is me.” He muttered self-deprecatingly, letting the unseemly tears fall freely from his eyelids:

“I said so many empty words, told so many truths, but I can’t make my male parent believe that he means everything to me. I promised too much, but I didn’t do enough…I promised male parent that I would only be your male son, I won’t go back on my word. But male parent, I really can’t stop loving you.”

    “I can’t do it, I can’t do it…I’m sorry, male parent.”

He murmured, his voice vague but devout, and Edwin didn’t speak again. Time passed in silence, and the airship had already arrived at the Duke’s Mansion’s landing pad. The sky was dim, and Edwin finally sighed softly:

“What are you going to do about the royal family’s affairs?”

Serra knew that he had once again been tacitly approved by Edwin. The blind love from the female Chong was almost limitless, and would never be exhausted, making the male Chong’s eyes heat up again. But he rationally chose to take the olive branch from the female Chong, and pretended to answer lightly:

“I’ll find a way to find the royal family’s research institute and destroy all relevant data. We face too many things, male parent, but I believe there will always be a day when they are resolved.”

He gave the female Chong a silly, carefree smile, and the female Chong looked helpless, reaching out to touch his head full of curly hair that had completely escaped the control of hairspray.

Just then, the manor’s main system said indifferently:

“Duke, His Highness Colean has sent an invitation from the Imperial Court. Duke Serra’s statement of ownership of the Fourth Army will enter parliamentary and court voting and discussion in two days. His Highness Colean also attached a sentence: ‘The light of the Golden Feather shines on all followers, no need to worry, my friend.'”

No Chong celebrated this good news, and everyone knew that behind this news was all power exchange and calculation. But Serra slowly exhaled and made a decision.

He pulled Edwin up from his seat, held one of Edwin’s hands, and finally opened his mouth to ask:

“Male parent, are you willing to serve as the general of the Fourth Army?”
