    Chapter 289: Leaving

A dozen military hovercrafts had just landed, quickly attracting attacks from the surrounding mutated creatures.

Dozens of blood-colored vines with sharp thorns burst from the ground, launching an unstoppable attack on the nearest hovercraft.

The man in the driver’s seat snorted coldly and whistled. The chubby white worm that had been dozing on his shoulder instantly woke up, opened its mouth to reveal pink mouthparts, and dashed out of the hovercraft in the blink of an eye, burrowing into the ground.

In no more than three seconds, the blood-colored vines seemed to be frozen in place, then rapidly retracted, disappearing into the air in an instant.

He opened the door and got out of the car, turning back to look at the group of superhumans who followed him out, a warm smile on his handsome face. “Everyone, please wait here for the General.”

As soon as he finished speaking, the ground “popped” and a round white worm emerged. It still had a small piece of blood-red root-like thing in its mouth, chewing vigorously with its sharp fangs, which was somewhat unsettling.

“Team Leader Su, where did you find this pet? It’s so useful!” A man in the Tian Ge Lian Meng black and gold uniform stepped forward.

“It’s stronger than most superhumans,” someone echoed.

“I got it by chance, just luck.” The soft voice came from slightly raised lips.

The handsome man held the plump worm in his hands, his slender, fair fingers stroking its head gently, his expression still gentle, exuding a constant stream of charisma.

The man standing in front of him couldn’t help but blush, his eyes slightly averted. Team Leader Su was simply too good-looking, especially those glass-like light golden eyes, which seemed to contain a hazy mist when slightly curved, and just being looked at by him made people unable to resist the urge to plunder.

Footsteps approached from far away, and everyone looked in the direction of the sound, their bodies tense as they saluted the tall figure striding towards them, shouting in unison, “General!”

Pei Yanlie’s deep, unwavering eyes swept over the composed man, pausing for only a second, but killing intent already arose in his eyes.

Zhou Zhou lightly ground his tiger tooth with his tongue, looking meaningfully at Su Wanxing’s extremely beautiful and seductive face, feeling curious.

How should he put it? This face was indeed Su Wanxing’s face, but the changes were also obvious.

A face that evoked pity was so white it glowed, the color of the pupils was even lighter than before, and the lips were rosy and shiny, now slightly parted, inexplicably alluring.

[Pei Yanlie, he’s staring at you, not even blinking, he’s obviously still in love with you.]

Su Wanxing blinked, his long eyelashes fluttering. “General, long time no see.”

He didn’t even look at Zhou Zhou, his eyes seeming to hold only Pei Yanlie. His voice was soft, “Ever since I heard the news that you were still alive, I specially applied to my superiors to come and pick you up.”

A chill swept over him, and the little worm perched on his shoulder buried its head into his collar, its body shrinking from a round shape to a worm the size of a thumb.

Pei Yanlie ignored him directly and said to the crowd in front, “Let’s go, let’s leave here first.”

He took Zhou Zhou’s hand and ruthlessly walked around Su Wanxing, getting into the hovercraft under the guidance of the other superhumans.

“Don’t you think he’s pitiful? I don’t think his feelings for you can be called love anymore, to be precise, it’s obsession and unwillingness,” Zhou Zhou said, propping his chin with one hand, looking at the man standing motionless outside through the transparent window.

Su Wanxing turned his head, his bright eyes lightly glancing at Zhou Zhou, his lips curving into a meaningful smile, his lips moving as if saying something.

Zhou Zhou shook the goosebumps that had sprung up on his arm and muttered softly, “I always feel like he’s plotting something bad.”

Pei Yanlie frowned imperceptibly, his voice turning cold, “If he has any ulterior motives, I will kill him before he can act.”

Zhou Zhou felt the strong killing intent emanating from him, rubbed his arm, his thin lips slightly raised as he said softly, “Pei Yanlie, times have changed, I’ve been taken advantage of by him once, I won’t be stupid enough to be taken advantage of a second time.”

Pei Yanlie’s eyes darkened, he raised his hand and pinched his chin, his thumb gently stroking his still swollen lower lip, and said in a hoarse voice, “Little Zhou, don’t have a trace of sympathy for him, and the same goes for others, being soft-hearted will only harm you.”

Zhou Zhou lowered his eyes and gave a muffled “Mm,” then spat out someone’s finger that had been put into his mouth, and glared at him faintly.

The hovercraft quickly ascended, piercing through the layers of clouds, and arrived in front of the spaceship parked below the atmosphere.

The rear door of the spaceship opened, and the hovercraft automatically flew into the door, soon stopping steadily in an open space.

The hovercrafts that had been flying closely behind landed one after another. Su Wanxing slowly got out of the car, stood in place, looked at Pei Yanlie, and did not step forward.

Zhou Zhou didn’t like this kind of gaze that focused on scrutinizing prey, and silently stood behind Pei Yanlie, trying to block his line of sight.

However, Pei Yanlie’s height of over 1.9 meters already made him stand out from the crowd, and even if Zhou Zhou stood on tiptoe, he couldn’t cover the upper half of his face.

Pei Yanlie’s lips curled up, he held his hand tightly and led him into the spaceship.

    “General, you’re finally back!”

Coming to greet them was Yuan Heng, his expression unable to conceal his excitement. His gaze fell on Zhou Zhou and he nodded at him. “Zhou Zhou, long time no see.”

Zhou Zhou smiled. “It’s been a long time indeed, I’m sorry to have troubled you.”

The meaning of the words was self-evident. Back then, when he was forced to leave the world in the book, this man was the one who was blamed by CEO Pei, and he had a hard time being fired and threatened.

Yuan Heng gave a wry smile. “It’s already in the past. That world is still operating normally, and the research institute has already begun to work on how to project ordinary people’s mental consciousness into it in order to save resources.”

Zhou Zhou’s eyes lit up, and the ponytail on his head shook with the movement of his head. “This idea is good. I was in a coma for two months, and I was injected with a total of two times less nutrient solution than normal people. Although I lost several pounds after waking up, it didn’t have much impact on my health. It would be great if this idea could be realized.”

He looked at Pei Yanlie, his black and white phoenix eyes with a bit of anticipation, but Pei Yanlie shook his head. “The idea is good, but it’s difficult to realize.”

The corners of Zhou Zhou’s raised mouth drooped down, and he deeply believed in what Pei Yanlie said. Who told him to have thousands of years of future memories?

Yuan Heng moved his lips, but didn’t ask further, leading them into the spaceship’s private lounge. “It will take about an hour to reach Main Star, and there will be some turbulence during that time.”

Zhou Zhou walked to the fully transparent cabin, looking at the endless space, and was very curious about the surrounding floating objects. “Is that space junk?”

He squinted his eyes, his excellent vision allowing him to clearly see that black creatures covered in fluff and looking like multi-legged spiders were lying on the floating meteorites, slowly opening their eyes.

    “Damn! It’s still alive!”
