    Chapter 215: Unexplained Hostility

After Zhou Zhou received a detailed introduction and brief training in the Chief Data Officer’s office, he followed Jin Yu to the eighth floor of the office building.

The eighth floor had only six desks, with three data analysts each leading three assistants.

“Sister Yun, Zhou Zhou is new here, I’ll leave him to you to guide.” Jin Yu brought Zhou Zhou to a woman with a blank expression. His expression was serious and earnest, a far cry from his earlier cheerful demeanor.

Ge Xiaoyun’s assistant had been hospitalized due to a sudden illness half a month ago and underwent surgery. He would need at least half a year to recover, and Zhou Zhou’s arrival happened to fill the vacancy.

Zhou Zhou greeted her, but was met with a cold stare from Ge Xiaoyun.

    Zhou Zhou: …

It seemed this cold-faced woman wasn’t easy to get along with.

Ge Xiaoyun had shoulder-length hair tied into a neat ponytail at the back of her head, her entire forehead exposed. A pair of sword-like eyebrows, reminiscent of a man’s, gave her a heroic air.

She stood up, her height only reaching Zhou Zhou’s chin. Her mouth was turned down, and her voice was clear and cold, with a hint of iciness. “I don’t care what connections you used to get into our data department. What I need to tell you in advance is that you must be serious when working and don’t bring personal feelings into the office. Also, don’t expect to rely on connections to do whatever you want. The military isn’t a place you can come and go as you please.”

The hostility in her was obvious and came out of nowhere. Zhou Zhou suppressed the corner of his mouth, his voice also becoming a bit indifferent. “Oh, okay.”

“Tch, you rich second generations just come here for fun.” Ge Xiaoyun glanced at the time, picked up a thick stack of documents from the table, and coldly ordered, “Sit at the desk across from me and organize these documents into a table. I want to see the results before lunch.”

She placed the documents on Zhou Zhou’s desk and walked out of the office with a cold face.

    Jin Yu: …

“Is she always like this with new people?” Zhou Zhou asked Jin Yu, who looked embarrassed.

He looked at Zhou Zhou with a complicated expression and shook his head. “Sister Yun usually has a cold face, but she’s quite friendly to new people. At least, she was very patient with her previous assistant. Do you know each other? I feel like she’s hostile towards you.”

“I don’t know her. This is the first time I’ve met her.” Zhou Zhou casually picked up a document and flipped through it. The dense data made Jin Yu’s eyes dizzy.

“Damn, the font is too small. Who printed this? Are they doing it on purpose?” Jin Yu was a little angry. Wasn’t this bullying the new guy?

He couldn’t stand bullying, and he couldn’t help but feel a little resentment towards Ge Xiaoyun.

“It’s okay, as long as I can read it.” Zhou Zhou pursed his lips, plopped down in his chair, and turned on the office computer. The screen saver was a smiling face of an ordinary man, very bright, and the background seemed to be the scene behind Zhou Zhou.

The angle of the photo was from Ge Xiaoyun’s desk. Zhou Zhou touched his nose, thinking that Ge Xiaoyun probably thought he had deprived her former assistant of his position, so she resented him?

Unfair, lady, this job was arranged by the Federal Club.

Zhou Zhou sighed, opened the data analysis table on the screen. There was no data in it, not even a template.

“I’ll send you the template later.” Jin Yu patted his shoulder, his eyes showing a trace of sympathy.

Ge Xiaoyun had been working in the data analysis department for nearly ten years. In the eighth floor, she was considered the most senior employee. Even Jin Yu didn’t dare to joke around in front of her.

Now that Zhou Zhou was being targeted by her, he was helpless. He could only comfort him, “Good luck. This is such a thick stack of documents. I’m afraid you won’t be able to finish it until tonight. Just do your best. Don’t take it too seriously. She can’t do anything to you.”

“It’s okay, you go back first. Send me the template when you have time.” Zhou Zhou supported his chin with one hand and waved his hand nonchalantly.

He didn’t take this targeting to heart. Besides, the other party was a woman. He couldn’t hit her or scold her, so he would play it by ear.

As long as it wasn’t too much, Zhou Zhou thought he could maintain his demeanor as a man.

Seeing him casually flipping through the documents, Jin Yu didn’t disturb him and tiptoed away from the eighth floor.

The other four employees only glanced at Zhou Zhou with sympathetic eyes. He had offended the wrong person. He had offended that woman. He probably wouldn’t last a week before he had to pack up and get out.

Zhou Zhou was a human, not a robot. He only had two hands, so naturally he couldn’t have superpowers. By noon, a small portion of the documents had yet to be sorted out.

He rubbed his sore shoulders and stretched. He hadn’t left his desk all morning. His ten fingers were rapidly tapping on the virtual keyboard. Now that he stopped, he felt like his hands were losing sensation.

When Ge Xiaoyun saw him stop, a trace of disdain flashed in her eyes. She couldn’t stand those rich second generations who got in through the back door. Her assistant was doing so well.

He only had a small appendectomy and could return to work after a week of rest, but the superiors forcibly approved him for a half-year vacation on the grounds that his body hadn’t recovered enough.

She couldn’t help but think that it was mostly because of Zhou Zhou, this rich second generation.

How could Zhou Zhou know what she was thinking? Seeing her looking at him like an enemy, he forced a smile and said, “Sister Yun, can I do it in the afternoon? I’m a little hungry.”

Ge Xiaoyun replied coldly, “Send me the file. Let me see the progress.”

Zhou Zhou gave an “ok” gesture and quickly sent her the file.

Ge Xiaoyun still had a cold face and looked at the content Zhou Zhou sent her with no expression. She pursed her lips, and a trace of anger rose in her eyes. “Who did you ask for help? You were able to organize so much data in just three hours?”

Zhou Zhou lazily crossed his arms, swung his long legs, and the smile in his eyes didn’t reach the bottom. “Don’t talk nonsense without evidence. Who could I ask for help? Maybe you should suspect that I have eight hands.”

Ge Xiaoyun suddenly stood up, thinking she had been insulted. “Spouting nonsense, being lazy, with your attitude, you dare to come to the military to work!”

“Hey, you’re wrong. Who says that people with my attitude can’t come to the military? Is it that the data I sorted out isn’t correct, or are you deliberately targeting me?” Zhou Zhou raised his eyebrows, not afraid of her at all.

Ge Xiaoyun was so angry that her lips trembled. In her thirty-five years, it was the first time a new person had dared to be presumptuous in front of her.

The other employees looked at each other, didn’t say a word, and tacitly got up and walked out of the office towards the cafeteria.

The group of four walked into the elevator and began to gossip about Ge Xiaoyun and the new guy.

“What’s the background of that Zhou something?” a round-faced girl asked curiously.

“Internal news says it was arranged by the Federal Club. Who knows the inside story,” said a tall, thin man wearing silver-rimmed glasses, his bangs almost covering his eyebrows, his tone containing a trace of contempt.

“Speaking of which, was Xiao Yang fired?”

Xiao Yang was Ge Xiaoyun’s assistant. He had been in the eighth floor office for nearly two years. He was usually everyone’s happy fruit, sunny and enthusiastic, but he was a bit careless and often needed Ge Xiaoyun to correct his mistakes.

Ge Xiaoyun wasn’t that good to him at first, but as they spent more time together, she gradually got used to his obedience. Plus, his smile was too bright, and his mouth was quite sweet. Even if he made small mistakes, it was easy to win others’ forgiveness.

“Ge Xiaoyun wiped his ass for him many times. The higher-ups aren’t blind.” A female data analyst with a long ponytail analyzed calmly.

“To put it nicely, he’s a data analysis assistant. To put it bluntly, he’s a handyman. Although Xiao Yang is prone to mistakes, he’s very obedient to Ge Xiaoyun. If she tells him to say one, he wouldn’t dare to say two.”

At this moment, the elevator opened on the first floor.

“Stop, stop, don’t get off topic. How long do you think the new guy can last under Ge Xiaoyun’s exploitation?”

“Tch, who knows who his backstage supporter is? To be honest, the higher-ups can’t possibly offend Ge Xiaoyun, who has rich work experience, just because of a rich second generation like him, right?”

The four chatted as they walked. Someone inadvertently looked up and saw a tall figure walking towards them. They suddenly stopped, widened their eyes, and whispered in surprise, “God, it’s the General!”

They quickly straightened their backs and saluted Pei Yanlie, shouting in unison, “General, good afternoon!”

Pei Yanlie glanced at them expressionlessly and grunted a deep “Mm.”

When he passed the four excited people, his steps suddenly stopped. His dark and deep eyes seemed to be wrapped in ice, looking at them, his voice with a bone-piercing coldness. “Who is the rich second generation you’re talking about?”
