Chapter 40: I Come to Comfort My Wife

    Film and Television Base.

During a break in filming, Tan Zhiyu held a book and was reading, while Li Yue asked Director Zheng about the recent performance of the shots.

Director Zheng stated that recently Tan Zhiyu’s action scenes had clearly become much richer, but he always seemed to get carried away when fighting Jiang Cheng, making it too realistic; the two often threw in some personal motives during their exchanges. As for other aspects of his performance, Tan Zhiyu had always been great at that. His sense of the camera was incredibly strong; a look, a movement, all came naturally without any need for deliberate shaping.

Next week they would go out of the province to change the scene for filming, estimating they would be out for a while.

“He didn’t talk much in the morning, concentrating hard on the script. He wasn’t in the right state a few days ago, but now he’s fully adjusted; there’s a crying scene in the next part,” Director Zheng couldn’t help but praise.

Today, Tan Zhiyu didn’t even need an assistant to pick him up; he drove himself to the set, arriving at eight-thirty in the morning, diligent enough to leave people in shock.

Li Yue thought, could it be that he’s finally grown up….

Just as she felt comforted, she walked into the makeup room, and sure enough, Tan Zhiyu was holding a book.

    Truly comforting….

    As she got closer.

The title on the bottom of the page read: “Ten Things Omegas Cannot Resist”.

    Li Yue: “……”

    Is he crazy?

With this kind of seriousness, if he were given another chance, he might just get into Tsinghua directly. Just as Li Yue was about to ask, they were told at the director’s side that they could start the next scene. This scene required him to watch his beloved fall in the arena, but as an undercover agent, he couldn’t express sadness or shed tears, instead silently reminiscing alone on a rooftop.

This was a solo performance, requiring the full range of emotional expression; transitioning from hostility to deep pain upon realizing the other’s tragic past, from holding hands while infiltrating, to finally witnessing the tragic death of his lover before his eyes. To avoid revealing his identity, he could only watch helplessly, experiencing a heartbreaking agony….

The most challenging part was transitioning the emotions. The director initially had him holding his lover’s ring, but later Tan Zhiyu changed it to a crushed white teddy bear.

To perform this scene’s emotions well, everyone noticed that Tan Zhiyu had been brewing his feelings since the morning, and no one dared to disturb him. Even the director couldn’t help but applaud his dedication when he thought about Tan Zhiyu studying his script in the makeup room.

Knowing the truth, Li Yue: “…….”

When filming began, Jiang Cheng also came to join in the fun. Tan Zhiyu was always good at action scenes, but since he had never had any rumors or romantic entanglements, he was actually not adept at emotional scenes, making the director break out in a cold sweat.

    “Three, two, one! Action!”

On the rooftop, rain fell softly, and Tan Zhiyu didn’t even brew any feelings. He slightly tilted his head back, the raindrops falling into his eyes, then rolling down his cheek, before finally splashing into the puddle at his feet, blurring his reflection.

The man stood alone on the rooftop, gazing into the distance, his palm tightly gripping the relic of his lover, lonely and composed.

From calm emotional waves to fierce tears upon realizing his lover was gone….

Everyone was moved by Tan Zhiyu’s emotional portrayal until he murmured his lines: “Why…”

“Why did you leave me all alone…”

    Why————!!

Why did Xing Yang leave early in the morning? Why did he leave him alone to go to work?!

Early in the morning at eight-thirty, Boss Xing got up on time. Given Xing Yang’s behavior last night, he wasn’t very willing to forgive him, so he pretended to be asleep with his eyes closed. He heard the man cooking in the kitchen, waiting for him to finish cooking and come to the room to give him a good morning kiss and some comfort.

He even had his forgiving lines all planned out….

But all he heard was the sound of the front door closing; Boss Xing didn’t even wake him up before leaving.

When he rushed downstairs to vent his anger, Boss Xing had already driven away in his Land Rover, leaving him with just the rear of the car.

He was all so proactive last night, but Boss Xing showed absolutely no reaction, even knowing that he was angry, he just drove off!

    Why—

Is he such an unloved man—

Why did he leave him all alone?

    Why—Xing Yang—you tell me why—!!

He is so good; how could Boss Xing not love him….

Tan Zhiyu’s nose twitched as big tears flowed down like they were free flowing water. His emotional conversion went from helplessness to excitement, finally turning into grievance, the transitions smooth as silk, leaving everyone at the scene in shock.

After this scene ended, Director Zheng was so stunned he couldn’t speak, this was the feeling he wanted, the feeling of love yet unattainable!!

He pulled a nearby staff member and excitedly said: “Did you see? This is it! An old veteran actor!!”

Director Zheng was deeply impressed; he even thought that the world lacks an Oscar for Tan Zhiyu.

Jiang Cheng, who came over to watch the scene, was somewhat wide-eyed; he had heard that Tan Zhiyu was a great actor, but his crying was so real that it raised doubts. He quietly asked Li Yue: “Did he get dumped by Xing Yang? Crying so heartbreakingly…”

Li Yue couldn’t express her complicated feelings: “Who knows…”

After this scene ended, the director praised him endlessly, but Tan Zhiyu didn’t seem very happy; he returned to the lounge in a low mood.

Director Zheng remarked: “Did you see? This is what it means to be an actor, an immersive performance; he has truly entered the role! This is—an old veteran actor—!”

The staff at the scene applauded, saying that their film was guaranteed to win the Black Butterfly Award.

Li Yue pushed open the lounge door, finding Tan Zhiyu sitting in a daze, as if his soul had been sucked dry.

“My ancestor, what’s wrong with you again? The director just praised your performance.”

Tan Zhiyu turned to her and asked, “Sister Yue, what do you think if someone treats you worse after falling in love than before? Is it that they got tired of you?”

Li Yue: “You’ve only been together a few months; it shouldn’t be that serious… You could at most last half a year, how deep could the love be?”

Tan Zhiyu broke down in tears again, going silent as tears flowed down his cheeks, recalling the moment yesterday when Xing Yang dodged his kiss.

And when he took the initiative, but Xing Yang showed no reaction at all, not even the slightest ripple of emotion.

Tan Zhiyu’s heart felt like it was going to break.

Li Yue: “Alright, I must have said something wrong! There’s a press conference this afternoon; you can’t show up with swollen eyes! My ancestor…”

What Tan Zhiyu couldn’t accept the most was that Xing Yang had no interest in him in that way; it must be his lack of allure. Was it because he wasn’t pretty enough? No way….

Or was it his figure? His chest muscles were about equal to Xing Yang’s….

Suddenly, he felt so angry, hating himself for being too busy with work during school and not learning a few moves from that flirtatious Qiu Jing, ending up in such a miserable state now.

Meanwhile, Boss Xing was sipping coffee in the office of Yuanyin Real Estate.

Xing Yang sat at the spacious desk, resting his chin on his hand while looking at the stock values on the screen. His phone showed that the blue pills he just ordered were already on their way….

    The great brother!

He did feel too tired after being sick yesterday; as a man, he couldn’t admit he couldn’t handle it, and yesterday Tan Zhiyu had said; “Isn’t it because you can’t?”

Boss Xing felt greatly humiliated as a man, and he couldn’t let his wife think he was weak.

However, according to Zhou Jiaoyue, a man past thirty starts to experience decline….

He was indeed approaching thirty, but Tan Zhiyu was clearly the same age as him, and yet he was in his prime, full of vigor, was this the difference between AO gender?

He was lost in thought, resting his chin while staring at the screen, pondering how to tell Tan Zhiyu that he had to go on a business trip next week….

Suddenly his phone rang; it was someone he followed from an anonymous site, posting something.

As a shareholder of this site, Xing Yang remembered that he had followed someone on it….

Heartbroken man: “What to do if my husband lacks passion after marriage? Waiting online, it’s urgent…”

Many people in the thread told similar stories, most of them cursing that post-marital passion was indeed not as great as right after marriage.

“We got married first and fell in love later, and it was still great until recently, but yesterday I was proactive, and he didn’t react at all. Does that mean he doesn’t love me anymore? No way… The poster is quite handsome, my husband can’t compare in certain aspects, but he has some advantages too; I really want to pursue further development, any advice?”

Xing Yang chuckled, it was as if he could see a sad puppy’s crying face through the screen?

He was fine when he left in the morning….

He knew that Tan Zhiyu had a full schedule today, wanting to let him sleep a bit longer, not waking him up; how could there be a lack of passion?

Clearly, when they hugged while sleeping, it was pretty passionate….

It almost suffocated him; they were hugging so tightly.

Secretary Wang walked in with documents for him to sign. Xing Yang waved his hand and scribbled his name on the paper, asking: “What’s the schedule this afternoon?”

Secretary Wang replied: “We need to wrap up the project with Craftsman Engineering, no other schedules for now.”

“What about Mr. Tan’s schedule? Where is their premiere, the Circular Film City?” Xing Yang grabbed his suit and walked outside.

“Uh, let me check,” Secretary Wang swiftly tapped on his phone a few times to confirm: “Yes, it should start in about half an hour.”

“Good, you should be quite skilled at wrapping up project operations now; do well, and you’ll get a raise at year-end.”

As soon as Secretary Wang heard this, he knew Boss Xing was planning to slip away.

“Shall I take you there?” Secretary Wang smiled helplessly, adjusting his glasses.

“No need,” Xing Yang pressed the button on the table, lowering his voice with a chuckle: “Secretary Song?”

Song Tian, busy with document binding, hurried in: “Is there something, Mr. Xing?”

“Do you have a driver’s license?” Xing Yang fastened the watch on his wrist.

Song Tian nodded; he was always a bit nervous around Xing Yang, especially since Secretary Wang was in the office. In front of seniors and the boss, he didn’t dare speak loudly: “Yes, I got it in college… but I’m not very practiced…”

“Good, I need you to help me out as a driver and take me to the Circular Film City, is that alright?”

Song Tian was a bit surprised; his previous work had always been outside of Boss Xing’s direct involvement; were they going to be alone together now….

    “Sure.”

“Don’t be so nervous; be confident. After working for so long, haven’t you adapted yet?” Xing Yang smiled, tossing him the car keys and patting his shoulder.

Song Tian’s cheeks flushed, and he promptly followed suit.

On the other side, Tan Zhiyu was getting his hair styled by a stylist. His medium-length curly hair had a lot of potential, akin to a child of the gods stepping out from a painting of ancient Greece.

“There are quite a few fans outside today, some media will be asking questions, and there will also be time for free questions, nothing different from before. This is the template for responses from the production team.”

Sister Li was busy, watching the time as they waited to go on stage.

    “Brother Tan, your phone.”

Tan Zhiyu’s mood had already been average. He felt very displeased as he was getting his makeup done, and Li Yue’s official line for others was that he was too immersed in his role to be in a good mood; he couldn’t very well say he had gone crazy, right?

“Who is it? Hang up; it’s probably some interview.” Li Yue glanced at the time; the movie was about to finish playing, and the leads needed to interact before going on stage.

“It’s… a note called, annoying guy, calling.”

“Give it to me.” Tan Zhiyu coughed and took Xiao Qin’s call, sounding somewhat impatient: “What’s the matter? I’m busy.”

“Are you about to go on stage?” Xing Yang asked.

    “What’s up?”

    “I’m on my way.”

The corner of Tan Zhiyu’s mouth lifted slightly, he coughed, pressing his tongue against the inside of his mouth: “What are you coming for?”

    “To comfort you.”

“I’m not angry; it’s a joke. Am I supposed to need comforting as a big man?” Tan Zhiyu scoffed, his fingertips already started to pick at the wall’s plaster beside him, his toes restlessly kicking the carpet: “I don’t need it; I’m not as small-minded as you think.”

“Oh——” Xing Yang’s voice sounded somewhat ethereal.

Tan Zhiyu took a heavy breath, thinking this man was ready to give up, when the voice on the other end said again: “But I really want to come comfort you; I keep feeling like I must have upset you somehow; I’ve already cleared up things at the company.”

Xing Yang asked: ‘I’ll be there in ten minutes; what do you think?’

Tan Zhiyu’s lips curled upwards, smugly saying: “Your legs are long, if you insist on coming, what can I do? And do you have an invitation to come here? How do I know what you want to do?”

“I said to comfort my wife; can the security let me in?” The man chuckled softly.

    “Crazy… who’s your wife?” He’s the one!

The great, unmatched one! He decided to change Xing Yang’s note to: useless man; from last night not daring to kiss, now putting on a show of being a big shot, cut it—

Why is ten minutes taking so long? Why isn’t he here yet? It’s so annoying.

    Note
