Chapter 90: Alcohol is a Bad Thing

According to the cliché in dog-blood novels, the first thing a protagonist sees upon waking up is the person they long to see.

That person would be standing by their side with concern, calling their name with deep affection, a face full of stubble, eyes red-rimmed, looking aged beyond their years…

    Stop, stop right there.

None of these greasy (crossed out), these beautiful scenes happened.

A bitter, spicy, and indescribable taste spread through his mouth, quickly sliding down his throat. The pain in his forehead gradually materialized, and the mournful cries made Lin Yan think he had already passed away to the afterlife.

Lin Yan shivered, opened his eyes, and saw two children crying with swollen eyes, while An Tan, holding a bowl of Chinese medicine, remained expressionless.

Seeing that Lin Yan was awake, An Tan thrust the bowl into the hands of the two children and began to shoo them away, “Go on, get out.”

The two children reluctantly glanced at Lin Yan, turning their heads every few steps as they shuffled out of the room.

As soon as the door closed, An Tan began his relentless verbal assault, “The Consort and the Prince are indeed deeply devoted to each other. Your fainting spell almost made me think His Highness was going to join the King in death.”

Lin Yan felt his chest tighten with anger, almost causing him to faint again.

An Tan didn’t give him the chance and continued his barrage, adding insult to injury, “You are no longer the Consort now, you need to keep your distance from His Highness. Are you afraid that the Zhao fellow won’t see through the problem? When Prince An is brought to the Capital City for burial, are you going to follow along?”

Old Man Zhao was only preoccupied with his official robes, how could he have time for such trivial matters, as for entering the Capital City…

Lin Yan didn’t speak, his mind starting to race.

Lin Yan had never been good at hiding things, and others could easily see what he was planning.

An Tan scoffed and casually took a sip of tea, “If you feel that your relationship with Prince An is more important than your own life, then I have nothing more to say.”

Lin Yan laughed awkwardly, his thoughts exposed, and tried to explain defensively, “How could that be? There’s no love between us, we just knew each other. He left so suddenly, I’ll just cry about it and get over it.”

An Tan sized Lin Yan up and down, but ultimately didn’t expose him, “It’s best if that’s the case.”

“Who would joke with their own life?” Lin Yan was about to swear an oath, when he suddenly seemed to remember something. He reached into his clothes and pulled out a piece of paper, handing it to An Tan, “Zhao Fangbo returned the Wu family’s residence to me, this is the title deed.”

An Tan had only ever seen Lin Yan giving things away. Other than bringing back pawn tickets every now and then, he had never seen him bring anything back.

Today was indeed a rare sight, actually seeing some money come back.

An Tan picked up the title deed and carefully examined it. Seeing that it was indeed a real title deed, he became even more surprised, “How could this Old Zhao… this Master Zhao be so kind?”

“Something happened on Prince An’s territory in Changning, and he knows that a great disaster is imminent, so he’s trying to smooth things over everywhere.” Lin Yan waved his hand in front of his face, looking as if he particularly disliked this room, “This house is small and drafty. Take Kumquat and Ginkgo and go clean up the Wu residence, I’m moving over tomorrow.”

Lin Yan always acted on a whim, just like now. He suddenly remembered that he wanted to change houses, and immediately wanted An Tan to go and clean it up.

Since the Commissioner of the Regional Administration could give the title deed to Lin Yan, the house should also be cleaned up. What An Tan cared about wasn’t this, but whether Lin Yan would take the opportunity to slip away.

Lin Yan wearily lay back on the bed, looking as if his health bar was about to hit zero, “Go quickly and clean up, I’m moving over tomorrow. It’s too uncomfortable to stay in this place, I’m seeing double.”

An Tan sized Lin Yan up and down for a long time, and finally relented, “Then I’ll go arrange it. You should rest well.”

Lin Yan waved his hand and covered his head with the blanket.

The door opened and closed again, and the sound of footsteps gradually faded away.

Lin Yan poked his head out from under the blanket, looked left and right, and made sure that the person was gone before jumping up.

He rummaged under the bed and found his small bag, throwing things into it haphazardly, “We’ve been together for so long, how could I not send him off one last time.”

The small bag was quickly filled. Lin Yan violently zipped it up, feeling like something was missing.

Silver, clothes, and… oh right, no food.

Lin Yan carried White, sneaking into the Kitchen, looking at the flour, and sighed deeply.

They definitely didn’t sell dry rations in the town, so he could only make some casually.

Add flour, add sugar, add water, put in whatever’s on hand, knead it into balls, and then… why does the taste seem a little off?

Lin Yan picked up a jar beside him and smelled it, discovering that it was alcohol.

Yun Qi had left, and no one was helping him clean up anymore, so all the messy things were mixed together.

“Whatever, as long as it’s edible.” Lin Yan gave up, pouring all the wine from the jar into the flour and stirring it randomly.

When he was almost done preparing, Lin Yan remembered that the stove hadn’t been lit yet.

These things weren’t originally done by him. Before, he only needed to prepare the ingredients, and once everything was ready, there would naturally be a stove with a lit fire and a heated pot.

Lin Yan clumsily added firewood to the stove, lit the fire, and then…

There was no then, Lin Yan was stuck at the step of lighting the fire.

    Annoying!!!

Lin Yan opened a bottle of wine, pouring half of it onto the firewood and pouring the other half into his mouth.

The spicy taste made Lin Yan a little clearer. He stuck the dough on the pot, picked up the wine by the stove, and took another sip.

The fire was finally lit, the temperature in the Kitchen gradually rose, and the ingested alcohol began to take effect. Everything in the Kitchen began to spin, and the big cat in the corner meowed incessantly.

“White… don’t… don’t meow.” Lin Yan wanted to pick up the cat, but he didn’t succeed after trying for a long time. Instead, he lost his balance and softly fell into the woodpile. White struggled to get out of the drunkard’s arms, but was held down tightly.

Lin Yan hugged the cat and rubbed it haphazardly, mumbling incoherently, “Transmigration… it’s just… just a dream, right? Wake up… wake up and I’ll be in the dormitory… dormitory bed… no, Xiao Qi… go find Xiao Qi, I… I want to find him, take you along… to find…”

Where is this? The cat is so soft, warm, sleepy…

Lin Yan’s eyelids began to droop, his consciousness floating farther and farther away.

His muddled consciousness took a turn at the door, just about to slip out through the crack when the door opened. The cold wind outside poured in, and his consciousness shivered, shrinking back into Lin Yan’s body.

Most of the people in Changning City had received favors from Lin Yan. Yun Qi had only inquired casually and found the house where Lin Yan lived.

This house is so small, so broken, my brother must be suffering.

Yun Qi forcefully suppressed the heartache in his heart and climbed over the wall into the courtyard.

The house was very quiet, only the Kitchen had rustling sounds. Yun Qi took a few quick steps to the window, and when he saw that familiar figure, tears welled up in his eyes.

His brother’s condition didn’t seem very good, he wondered if he was sad about his affairs.

That big fat cat heard his voice and meowed for a long time. Lin Yan bent down to comfort it, and then softly fell down.

Yun Qi didn’t have any worries anymore, he pushed the door open and rushed in, helping Lin Yan up.

    “Brother, you…”

“Xiao Qi?” Lin Yan leaned on the wall, trying to stand up, but touched the wine jar by his hand. He picked up the jar and looked at it, suddenly understanding what was going on.

“So it was a dream.” Lin Yan threw the jar aside, looked at the at a loss Yun Qi and gave a wry smile.
