Chapter 42 Everyone is busy, it’s good to be busy
Two people went out together, one person came back.
The shop was dark, and Cheng Que and Gu Zhan were nowhere to be found.
“Is there no one here?” Lin Yan groped around on the counter for the lamp, lit it with a fire starter, and immediately saw a note under the account book.
“What’s this?” Lin Yan moved the account book away and quickly scanned the note in the light. There were only two lines on the note. Cheng Que had left a note saying that he had gone to the Gu family’s place.
Lin Yan suddenly felt like a lonely old man. He was just about to sigh “Busy, it’s good to be busy” when he heard a noise at the door.
“You’re back…” Lin Yan excitedly looked towards the door, only to find it empty, with no familiar figure.
The fifteenth of July, ghostly stories of the deceased, the sound of the wind blowing through the window frames, a green glow floating in the air.
“Who is it?” Lin Yan’s voice trembled. He picked up the paperweight and slowly approached the two eyes.
The two eyes suddenly disappeared, then reappeared right in front of his face.
Lin Yan cried out in surprise, just about to throw the paperweight when he recognized the owner of the eyes.
It was White, the big fat black cat he kept.
“Oh, you bad cat, you scared me to death.” Lin Yan put the paperweight on the table and started petting the cat as if to vent his anger.
White purred happily, but the litter box shoveler’s massage suddenly stopped.
White tilted its head in confusion and saw Lin Yan disgustedly patting the dust off his hands, muttering, “What did you go do? You’re so dusty.”
White didn’t understand, but it seemed the litter box shoveler was worried about it. It meowed, proclaiming its achievements, and the litter box shoveler listened patiently. Then… he went to the edge of the tub that it hated the most.
“Bath time.” Lin Yan threw the cat into the tub and vigorously scrubbed it.
White struggled a couple of times, then quickly gave up and let Lin Yan knead it into whatever shape he wanted.
“Do you think Xiao Qi will be back today?” Lin Yan muttered as he washed the cat, “It’s so late, probably not, I guess he’ll have to wait until tomorrow…”
White suddenly sat up in the tub and meowed soothingly twice.
“Who knows if he’ll be back or not.” Lin Yan absentmindedly pushed the cat back down and continued to scrub mechanically, “It’s best if he doesn’t come back. Didn’t we agree on the first day we met? I give him food, he works, and once he’s healed he leaves. It’s been a long time now.”
White’s bones were relaxed from the rubbing. Lin Yan dried it like a rag doll and carried it to the bed.
The more Lin Yan thought, the more confused he became.
He simply gave up struggling and hugged Yun Qi, diving into the covers: “I don’t want to think about it, sleep.”
The stars twinkled in the sky, and Lin Yan’s thoughts churned.
The light of dawn faintly appeared on the horizon, and Lin Yan’s eyes were like copper bells.
The Capital City’s dogs barked and chickens crowed, and Lin Yan leaped out of bed.
It was a very good night that left Lin Yan sleepless, addicted to his cellphone.
“Too much bubble tea? Can’t sleep.” It was still early, so Lin Yan turned over, hugged White, who had been tormented by him all night, and tried to go back to sleep.
The courtyard door creaked twice, and the sound of light footsteps gradually became clear.
“He’s back?” Lin Yan sat up, about to greet him, when he thought of Yun Qi’s situation.
Such a complex situation, how could it be resolved in just one night?
Lin Yan hid his cellphone under the pillow, covered it with the quilt, and added a layer of black cat seal. After doing all this, he tiptoed to the door, picked up the door bolt, and prepared to attack.
The little thief who came to visit was particularly arrogant. He peered into Lin Yan’s bedroom twice and then pushed open the door.
Lin Yan came down the mountain like a fierce tiger, decisively attacking, but when he saw who it was, he swerved urgently.
“Big Brother? You…” Yun Qi looked at the door bolt, two centimeters from his head, took two steps to the side, and tremblingly raised his hand to push the door bolt into the corner.
“You… you’ve dealt with everything? Why are you back so soon?” Lin Yan scratched his head awkwardly and let Yun Qi take the weapon away and place it on the wall.
“Big Brother didn’t sleep all night?” Yun Qi pointed to the dark circles under his eyes. “They’re bigger than my palm.”
“I’m cultivating immortality.” Lin Yan mumbled, awkwardly turning the topic back. “That’s not important, your side…”
“It’s no big deal.” Yun Qi washed the dust off his hands and naturally took off his coat. “Royal Brother knew I was coming back a long time ago. Those people from before were sent by him.”
“I thought so.” Lin Yan pursed his lips, not surprised.
“We agreed before that the country is his, and I won’t show up again.” Yun Qi climbed onto his bed, yawned, and his voice became mumbled. “But those old ministers below aren’t willing. Today, that…”
Lin Yan waited for a long time but didn’t hear the rest. He called Yun Qi twice in a low voice and realized that he was already asleep.
Oh well, it’s not a big deal.
The thoughts that had been churning all night finally calmed down. Lin Yan yawned and just as he was about to climb into bed, he heard the sound of something breaking in the corner of the room.
Lin Yan sat up with a “thump” and looked face to face at the black cat seal, which was jumping up and down in the corner.
Yun Qi was also awakened by the noise made by White. He muttered something softly and listlessly picked up the dustpan from the side of the wall. “I’ll clean it up.”
Lin Yan wanted to help, but Yun Qi snatched the tools away. He could only watch Yun Qi clean up the mess and chat with him casually, asking, “What’s your identity now?”
“Royal Brother said he’ll come to Xiang Wei in two days to talk in detail.” Yun Qi put the shards in the corner and carefully wiped the floor with a rag.
“The Emperor is coming to Xiang Wei to eat?” Lin Yan instantly woke up. Various marketing ideas sprang up like mushrooms after the rain. “Then can I put up a sign that says ‘The Emperor’s favorite famous shop, golden dishes to entertain royalty’?”
“Sure.” Yun Qi put the things away and yawned. “I’ll find someone to make a sign tomorrow.”
Lin Yan was very excited and didn’t want to sleep. White was also excited and meowed.
Yun Qi had never liked this light bulb cat. Now he had a good excuse. He grabbed White by the scruff of its neck, picked it up, and justified his actions, “Is it hot? Go sleep outside, it’s cooler outside.”
Yun Qi climbed back into bed, and the room returned to silence.
Lin Yan couldn’t sleep and started to let his mind wander again.
White, who was bearing Lin Yan’s vitality, was thrown out, and Yun Qi was forced to take responsibility. Just as he was about to fall asleep, Lin Yan knocked on the bed frame and whispered, “Are you asleep?”
Yun Qi turned over and casually hummed.
Good, he’s not asleep.
“What did you want to say today? Are you…” Lin Yan tried to continue the topic they hadn’t finished on the tower.
“Nothing.” Yun Qi didn’t seem to want to chat, his voice full of sleepiness. “Big Brother, rest early, I’m going to sleep.”
Lin Yan said “oh” and turned over, feeling aggrieved.
His thoughts were still churning, but the anxiety in his heart was relieved. The rambling Lin Yan quickly fell asleep, while Yun Qi, who had said he was going to rest early, opened his eyes.
