Chapter 63: Different Choices, What High or Low Status?

Gu Xia’s gaze went past Gu Chao and she gave a graceful bow to the person outside the door, “Mo… Young Master Mo, why are you here?”

Yun Qi’s eyes swept over the two people in the room, and he casually made an excuse: “The food was a bit too rich.”

Gu Xia volunteered: “I’ll go cut some fruit for you, Young Master.”

Yun Qi nodded without stopping her.

He scanned the kitchen, seeing Gu Chao washing dishes in a mess and Gu Xia, who was clearly made up and elegantly cutting fruit, made him feel Lin Yan was even more insightful.

This Ge’er is not honest, and definitely wouldn’t be willing to stay at Xiang Wei.

Yun Qi sat down in the courtyard, idly playing with the vase on the table.

Gu Xia came out of the kitchen carrying a plate, and tremblingly placed the plate on the table: “Your Highness… Young Master, here’s the fruit you requested.”

Gu Xia changed his address very stiffly, as if afraid that Yun Qi wouldn’t notice.

Yun Qi moved his gaze away from the badly cut fruit and gave Gu Xia a faint glance: “Now that you’ve guessed it, there’s no need to hide it.”

Gu Xia nodded in agreement. Seeing Yun Qi put a piece of his badly cut apple into his mouth, he suddenly knelt down: “This servant is willing to enter the manor to serve you, please grant my request, Your Highness.”

Yun Qi paused in his chewing. He turned to avoid Gu Xia’s bow, and guiltily looked towards the courtyard gate. The screen wall blocked his view, so he couldn’t see anything.

He wondered if his “brother” who “happened to be passing by” to send him here had returned yet. If he heard these words, he would probably be unhappy.

Seeing that Yun Qi didn’t respond, Gu Xia knelt on the ground and continued to plead: “This servant knows that my status is low, and I can’t compare to the Queen and the Prince’s affection for each other. I only wish to serve by your side, asking for nothing else.”

Yun Qi’s thoughts were finally pulled back.

He looked at the person kneeling in front of him, and his hand involuntarily went to his temple.

He definitely couldn’t take the person, but he couldn’t let him stay at Xiang Wei either. The best way was to return his contract of sale to him and let him find a place to go on his own. However, now that Gu Xia had recognized him, he probably wouldn’t be willing to leave. He had to think of a way to deal with the person, preferably by sending him outside the Capital City, at least not leaving him at Xiang Wei.

While Yun Qi was thinking, Gu Chao knelt on the ground without getting up, tearfully expressing how difficult his life had been these past few years. He moved closer to Yun Qi, little by little, thinking he was being subtle.

Just as Gu Chao was about to lean on Yun Qi’s knee, Yun Qi suddenly dodged to the side.

Gu Chao missed his target and knelt upright in a mess, looking at Yun Qi with particularly aggrieved eyes.

Yun Qi dusted off his sleeves, as if trying to brush off some dirt. His voice was still cold: “What’s your family name?”

Gu Xia’s face lit up, but then he started to sob again: “This servant’s name is Ye Xia, and my father was originally a Vice Minister of the Ministry of Justice, but he lost his official position because he handled a case wrong. That’s how this servant ended up in this situation.”

“The Ye family…” Yun Qi tapped on the table. He quickly matched the name to a person. “The Ye family used to be close to the Minister of Works, Wu, and the two families even arranged a marriage. Was it for you or Ye Chao inside?”

“That’s right, Your Highness,” Gu Xia’s smile froze. He carefully glanced at Yun Qi, and when he saw that Yun Qi’s expression hadn’t changed much, he quietly relaxed a little, and awkwardly defended himself, “My father did say that he wanted to arrange a marriage for this servant, but the matter hadn’t been settled yet when the family…”

“In that case, I shouldn’t steal what belongs to another.” Yun Qi slapped the table, settling the matter. “I’ll inform Wu Da tomorrow to pick you up.”

Gu Xia, no, Ye Xia, originally thought that Yun Qi was tired of him, but he didn’t expect things to take a turn for the better and find a new opportunity. He wiped the tears from his face and kowtowed to express his gratitude: “This servant thanks Your Highness for your kindness.”

Yun Qi was originally too lazy to say anything, but seeing that Ye Xia was so sensible, he began to wonder if his view of this person was a bit biased. He finally couldn’t help but give a solemn reminder: “Wu Da is already married. What your status will be when you go over there, and how high you can climb, will all depend on your own fortune.”

Ye Xia kowtowed, his face full of joy without the slightest unwillingness: “This servant understands.”

Yun Qi gestured towards the kitchen: “Will your brother go with you, or stay here?”

Ye Xia looked back and saw Ye Chao wiping the kitchen range. The sunlight was shining on Ye Chao’s face, revealing a bit of peace and serenity.

If he went over there, he would at most be a concubine, and his future fortune would be unknown.

Ye Chao finished wiping the kitchen range and turned to wipe the table. Ye Xia couldn’t see him from his position. Ye Xia looked at Ye Chao’s direction again, and finally made up his mind.

He gave Yun Qi a solemn bow and said seriously: “My brother has a bad temper, so please ask the two shopkeepers to take care of him in the future.”

“As you wish.” Yun Qi stood up, took the plate, and left the courtyard.

Lin Yan was in the small kitchen teaching Cheng Que how to make small cakes. When he heard the sound of someone entering, his movements obviously paused for a moment, then he continued to whisk the cake batter as if nothing had happened.

“How was it?” Lin Yan’s voice sounded indifferent, but the hand holding the bowl unconsciously tightened.

Not to mention Yun Qi, even Cheng Que could see that Lin Yan’s state was not right, but only Lin Yan thought everything was normal.

Cheng Que stuffed the cake mold into Yun Qi’s hand, gave Yun Qi a look, and then retreated from the kitchen, closing the door behind him.

Yun Qi took the mold and moved close to Lin Yan, complaining very aggrievedly: “Brother was right, he wanted to seduce me, and he kept leaning towards me, and he wanted me to take him back to the manor…”

Lin Yan’s whisking movements suddenly sped up, and his voice was slightly trembling: “So you’re planning to let him live in which house?”

“Brother, what are you talking about?” Yun Qi became even more aggrieved, his voice even sounding like he was about to cry.

“You…” Lin Yan barely swallowed the comforting words, but his voice unconsciously softened a lot, “You didn’t take him back to the manor?”

Yun Qi sniffed, and said with a wronged expression of loyalty: “How could I possibly take a concubine? I sent him to the Wu family.”

It took Lin Yan a long time to dig up some information about the Wu family from the corners of his mind. It seemed to be about the Wu family’s son getting married half a month or a month ago.

Yun Qi knew what Lin Yan was worried about, so he didn’t go into details, just glossing over it lightly: “I just sent him over there. What happens after that depends on Ye Xia’s own abilities.”

Lin Yan always felt that something was strange about this matter. He silently poured the cake batter into the mold and silently put the mold into the oven.

Taking advantage of Gu Zhan’s opportunity to come over to find someone, Yun Qi changed the topic: “Didn’t brother want to find something? Let’s trouble Shopkeeper Gu to make the cake.”

Gu Zhan successfully received the signal, snatched Lin Yan’s tools, and conveniently coaxed the two of them out.

Lin Yan was still entangled in the Wu family’s matter at first, but he was quickly distracted by the little gadgets that Yun Qi kept producing.

The two walked further and further, and it became more and more bustling. Just as Lin Yan thought that Yun Qi was going to take him to the imperial palace, Yun Qi finally turned into a small alley.

This alley was originally quite decent, but because it was piled up with all kinds of debris, it looked particularly dilapidated and messy.

The two stopped in front of a door without a plaque. Based on the decoration, Lin Yan vaguely recognized that this was a temple.

It sounded quite reasonable that a swindler who knew about transmigration lived in a temple, but this scene…

As soon as Lin Yan put his hand on the wall, the plaster fell off.

He clicked his tongue and threw the plaster into the corner, muttering in a low voice, “This place? It feels like it’s going to be demolished any second now.”
