Chapter 91: Life Hanging by a Thread

The salty, damp smell invaded his nostrils, his stomach churned violently, and his whole body felt as if he were floating on cotton.

This was Lian Xun’s first sensation upon waking.

His eyes were covered, and his hands and feet were tightly bound, restricting his movement.

Lian Xun struggled to sit up, feeling weak all over, his limbs limp.

Presumably, the effects of the drug hadn’t worn off yet.

Judging from his current senses, he should be at sea; otherwise, it wouldn’t be so bumpy, and he wouldn’t be able to faintly smell the sea breeze.

The rusty iron door creaked open, and someone came in.

    “Yo, you’re awake?”

Lian Xun raised his head, following the sound, and asked warily, “Who are you? Why have you kidnapped me?”

The person chuckled, their voice drawing closer. “Young Master Lian, who wants you dead the most? Don’t you know?”

“As expected, it’s Lian Feng,” Lian Xun said in a low voice. “You dare to act even though you know I’m a Young Master of the Lian family?”

“Heh, you wouldn’t be hoping your old man will save you, would you? He can’t even protect himself…”

“Shut up, don’t say what you shouldn’t say!” A stern warning was followed by a loud slap.

    “Understood,Big Brother, I’ll shut up.”

Judging from their conversation, there were only two people in the cabin, so escape wasn’t impossible.

Lian Xun timed his moment, suddenly leaping up and ramming into the two men. The three of them fell into a heap, creating a huge commotion.

Several more people rushed in from outside, their voices hurried. “Big Brother, what happened, Big Brother?”

Lian Xun’s heart sank. There were more people?

    He was done for!

    “Beat him to death!”

At the Big Brother’s command, a rain of fists fell upon him. Lian Xun curled up on the floor, his limbs bound. All resistance was futile.

A dull ache spread through his internal organs, and before long, Lian Xun tasted something sweet and metallic in his throat, as a rusty flavor flooded his mouth and nose.

He didn’t know how many people were kicking and punching him, but his whole body gradually became numb from the pain.

As his consciousness began to fade, Lian Xun stubbornly clung to a single thought: he absolutely couldn’t die here pathetically.

Qi Luzhi was still waiting for him.

    Lian Family Manor/Estate.

Lian Feng anxiously pushed open the door to the Study, his tone flustered. “Father, something bad has happened! Younger brother disappeared on the way home.”

Lian Yishan, sitting in his wheelchair, slowly turned around, his eyes fixed on Lian Feng. His cloudy eyes weren’t filled with worry, but with anger and a stifled sense of powerlessness.

Their eyes met for a moment before Lian Feng’s expression suddenly changed, and he gave a sinister laugh.

“As expected, nothing can be hidden from Father. That’s right, I did it. So what?”

Lian Feng spread his hands, as if saying, “What can you do to me?”

Lian Yishan was so angry that his beard bristled, but now he was in a wheelchair, unable to move, and could only watch his eldest son go increasingly insane.

Lian Feng slowly walked up to Lian Yishan and pulled out a share transfer agreement.

“Father, look at you now, don’t bother worrying about the company. Stamp this agreement and hand over the Lian Group to me. You can just stay home and enjoy your retirement.”

Lian Yishan glared at him fiercely, turning his head away and tremulously saying, “You… dream… on!”

Rage instantly flared in Lian Feng’s eyes. He grabbed the front of Lian Yishan’s clothes, completely disregarding the fact that he was his father.

“Old man, Lian Xun is dead, he’s dead! I’m also your son. All these years I’ve poured my heart and soul into the Lian Group, I’ve put in more effort than anyone else, so why won’t you give me the company? Why?”

Lian Feng roared, his eyes bloodshot, his expression deranged, no different from a mad dog.

Lian Yishan simply closed his eyes, letting him rant.

After venting for a long time, Lian Feng suddenly calmed down. He released Lian Yishan’s collar and coldly laughed. “It doesn’t matter, the seal should be in this Study, right? Once I find it, the Lian Group will be mine.”

With that, he frantically began ransacking the room. Lian Yishan was both anxious and furious, trembling all over, but could only roar at him to stop.

But it was all in vain.

In the dilapidated ship cabin, the men tied the barely conscious Lian Xun to a pillar and retreated to the side. The ringleader reached out and lifted Lian Xun’s chin, arrogantly saying, “Dare to bump into me? Now you’re honest, huh?”

Lian Xun coldly snorted, stubbornly dodging the man’s greasy, dirty hand.

The ringleader carefully examined Lian Xun’s pale, handsome face, his gaze lingering on his blood-stained lips, a lewd idea surfacing in his eyes.

“You kid, you’re quite the looker. How about letting the brothers have some fun before you die?”

Amidst the crowd’s raucous laughter, the ringleader, oblivious to his impending doom, touched Lian Xun’s face.

Lian Xun frowned deeply, enduring his disgust and biting down hard on the man’s hand.

    “Ah—”

The ringleader screamed, staring wide-eyed in disbelief. “You dare to bite me?”

That bite was no joke. Half his hand was gushing blood, looking quite horrifying.

Lian Xun spat out the blood in his mouth, sneering. “What kind of scum dares to touch your grandfather?”

“You… I see you don’t want to live anymore.” Enraged, the ringleader immediately ordered his men, “Keep beating him! After he is dead, throw him into the sea with his luggage to feed the fish.”

    “Yes, Big Brother!”

Another round of punching and kicking.

Lian Xun clenched his teeth, desperately trying not to lose consciousness.

    Sheng Shao Group.

Qi Luzhi was about to rush to the Airport when the door to his Office was kicked open, and Gao Jingqian stormed in, Feng Nuo unable to stop him.

Before Qi Luzhi could react, he unexpectedly received a punch to the left cheek.

He glared at Gao Jingqian, coldly scolding, “What are you doing?”

“Qi Luzhi, do you know Lian Xun is missing? I shouldn’t have left him with you. You can’t protect him at all.”

Gao Jingqian’s eyes were bloodshot, and he rushed up to punch Qi Luzhi again.

Qi Luzhi dodged Gao Jingqian’s fist, throwing him to the ground with a shoulder throw.

Gao Jingqian immediately scrambled up, swinging his fist again. Qi Luzhi was enraged, preemptively landing a heavy punch on Gao Jingqian.

“Enough! Of course I know he’s missing. I’m going abroad to find him now.”

“Where are you going to find him? Do you even know where he is? Do you know you lost him? You deserve to die!”

Gao Jingqian questioned, pressing closer with each word.

“It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have let him go abroad alone. But…” Qi Luzhi looked sharply at Gao Jingqian, “What’s the point of you losing your temper with me here? If you have any skill, hurry up and find Lian Xun. That’s the priority.”

Gao Jingqian seemed to be struck by a sudden realization, staggering back two steps, his expression dazed. “You’re right, I have to find him, I have to find him.”

Qi Luzhi didn’t bother wasting any more time with him, coldly snorting before heading out. After taking a few steps, he suddenly stopped.

He looked at Gao Jingqian, asking the question that had been on his mind for a while: “That video from last time, you bribed my employee to film it, right? You’ve been sending people to follow Lian Xun, haven’t you?”

Gao Jingqian lowered his eyes, tacitly admitting it.

“Why did you do that?” Qi Luzhi asked again.

Gao Jingqian laughed self-deprecatingly. “I thought if I broke you up, I would have a chance to be with him. I was wrong.

As for following him, at first it was to investigate the fire case, but later, I just wanted to know his news.

    Anything else?”

Qi Luzhi looked at him expressionlessly, his eyes filled only with pity.

Just a pitiful person who couldn’t get the love he wanted.

He said nothing, turning around and striding away.
