    Chapter 89: Reluctant

    Two days until departure.

“Ling Yu, send me the work arrangements for the new quarter this afternoon for confirmation. Also, bring over the revised version of the contract from yesterday for me to sign.”

Lian Xun packed his luggage while calling Ling Yu to make final work arrangements.

He casually tossed an orange plaid sweater into the suitcase, but Qi Luzhi silently took it out.

    Lian Xun looked puzzled.

“It’s September now. What are you doing with such a thick sweater? Are you planning to stay abroad until winter?” Qi Luzhi asked awkwardly.

Lian Xun hung up the phone and walked to Qi Luzhi’s side, “Brother, it’s very cold over there right now.”

“……Then you should still take it.”

Qi Luzhi silently folded the sweater again and carefully placed it in the suitcase.

Lian Xun watched Qi Luzhi’s heavy expression, as if he was sending someone off to their death, sighed, pushed the suitcase aside, and sat down next to Qi Luzhi.

“Brother Qi, how many times do I have to say it for you to believe me? I’ll really be back soon. You don’t have to worry about me suddenly disappearing like I did seven years ago. Besides, you can call me anytime. I promise to answer in a second.”

Qi Luzhi held Lian Xun’s hand, his thumb gently stroking his protruding wrist bone, and remained silent for a few seconds.

“I know, I just can’t bear to be apart from you.”

“Brother Qi…” Lian Xun hugged Qi Luzhi and whined affectionately, “If you keep this up, I’ll be even more reluctant to leave.”

“So, you really don’t want me to go with you?” Qi Luzhi asked once again.

Lian Xun shook his head and said half-jokingly, “No, what if someone really wants to harm me? If we both go, wouldn’t that be a total wipeout?”

    “I’m willing,” Qi Luzhi chuckled.

“I’m not willing,” Lian Xun hurriedly covered Qi Luzhi’s mouth, “Pooh, may we both be safe and live a long life.”

“Okay, I won’t say it anymore,” Qi Luzhi pulled Lian Xun onto his lap, cherishing every second before their separation.

“Then, can I at least take you to the Airport? Don’t refuse this one, okay?”

    “Then……okay.” Lian Xun agreed hesitantly.

If Qi Luzhi sends him off, he definitely won’t be able to hold back his tears.

In the afternoon, Lian Xun and Ling Yu were discussing work in the Study, while Qi Luzhi called the studio that was making the custom-made ring to ask when it would be ready.

The other party replied that the soonest would be the day after tomorrow.

The day after tomorrow is the day Lian Xun leaves.

Qi Luzhi frowned and urged urgently, “I can’t wait that long, at the latest, tomorrow.”

“Mr. Qi, we’re really sorry, we’re already rushing to get it done…”

“I want to see the ring before tomorrow night, money is no object,” Qi Luzhi said in an unquestionable tone.

Faced with absolute money power, the other party didn’t hesitate for a second, “Okay, Mr. Qi, we will expedite the production for you and make sure it’s completed before tomorrow night.”

Qi Luzhi gave a faint “Mm” and hung up the phone.

The next day at noon, before twelve o’clock, Qi Luzhi received a notification call that the ring was completed.

The weight in his heart finally lifted, “How long will it take to deliver it? Never mind, I’ll just go pick it up myself.”

Seeing Qi Luzhi rushing out the door, Lian Xun followed, “Brother Qi, where are you going? I want to go too.”

Qi Luzhi put his arm around the back of Lian Xun’s neck and kissed his lips hard, feigning mystery, “Going to do something very important, I’ll be back soon, you stay home and wait for me obediently.”

    “Oh.”

Qi Luzhi wouldn’t let him follow, so Lian Xun had to play alone at home.

He watched TV for a while but found it boring, so he checked his luggage again.

He had packed all the necessary clothes, shoes, and daily necessities…

He felt like he had forgotten something important.

“That’s right.” Lian Xun suddenly got up and ran to the desk by the window in the Bedroom, opened the drawer, and felt for a small transparent box at the back.

Inside was the first gift Qi Luzhi had given him.

    A Tie clip.

Lian Xun put the Tie clip in the hidden compartment of the suitcase, and then he closed the suitcase with satisfaction.

Over here, Qi Luzhi received the ring and rushed home without stopping. Just thinking about Lian Xun’s moved, delighted, and at a loss expression when he received the ring, Qi Luzhi couldn’t help but curl up the corners of his mouth.

The phone rang, and Qi Luzhi casually pressed the answer button.

“Hello, are you a family member of Ms. Wang Shuhua?” A hurried female voice came from the phone.

    Auntie Director?

Qi Luzhi frowned slightly, “I am.”

“Please come to Shangjiang City People’s Hospital as soon as possible. Ms. Wang Shuhua fell and was hospitalized and needs care.”

    “Okay, I understand.”

Qi Luzhi looked at the time and immediately turned around and drove towards the Airport.

On the way, he called Lian Xun. When Lian Xun heard that Auntie Director was hospitalized, he was also anxious, “I’ll go back to Shangjiang with you.”

“You have a long flight to take tomorrow, so you should rest well today. I’ll tell you any news as soon as possible.”

“Then please say hello to Auntie for me,” Lian Xun said.

“Mm.” Qi Luzhi paused and instructed, “Wait for me at the Airport tomorrow morning.”

    “Okay, I’ll wait for you.”

The night was as dark as ink. Qi Luzhi rushed to the hospital, covered in dust. Seeing that Auntie Director had a fractured right leg in a cast and bandages on her face, he couldn’t help but feel a pang in his heart.

    “Mingbao, why are you here?”

Auntie Director was surprised to see Qi Luzhi, then happily beckoned Qi Luzhi to come over and sit down, her tone slightly apologetic, “Sigh, I was just afraid of bothering you, but I didn’t expect the nurse to call you anyway.”

“What are you saying, Auntie? You should have told me as soon as possible when you were so seriously injured.”

Qi Luzhi stepped forward and checked Auntie Director from head to toe, thankfully there were no other external injuries, and she would be able to recover completely with a month or two of rest.

Qi Luzhi found the attending Doctor to upgrade Auntie Director to a VIP ward and arranged for a 24-hour one-on-one nursing care, busy inside and out for a long time.

Auntie Director was gratified and felt like she was troubling Qi Luzhi, and was very embarrassed, “Mingbao, I’m fine, you don’t have to do this, I’m happy just to have you come over and talk to me.”

Qi Luzhi pretended to be angry, “Auntie, you’re still being so polite with me, then I won’t dare to come in the future.”

“Okay, no politeness, no politeness. By the way, is Lian Xun doing well?”

“He’s doing very well, Auntie, we’re both doing very well.” Qi Luzhi moved a stool to the bedside and sat down.

“That’s good, I’m relieved as long as you two are doing well.”

Qi Luzhi chatted with Auntie Director for a long time, until she settled down to sleep, and then tiptoed out of the ward.

The time pointed to twelve o’clock in the morning.

The most recent flight back to Xuancheng was at four o’clock in the morning. Qi Luzhi was so concerned about Lian Xun that he rushed to the Airport without resting.

Even though Qi Luzhi said he didn’t have time to come back, Lian Xun insisted on waiting for him in the Living Room. He was too bored alone, so he lay on the sofa and fell asleep without realizing it.

The phone placed by his head kept beeping, all messages from Qi Luzhi.

[Auntie is fine, you don’t have to worry.]

[Sorry for leaving you alone at home for so long, did you miss me?]

[I’m getting ready to go back now.]

    ……

    [Why aren’t you answering me?]

    [Asleep?]

    [You heartless thing!]
