Chapter 88: I Want to Marry You

There were still two weeks left before the trip abroad.

Qi Luzhi became increasingly clingy to Lian Xun, to the point where he wished he could call him eight hundred times a minute, even during work hours.

Lian Xun couldn’t work at all, and out of helplessness, he simply stopped going to the company.

“I’ll keep you company these next few days, alright?”

Qi Luzhi was more than willing and immediately dumped all his work on Li Yang.

Li Yang exploded, “Seriously? You guys are doing this again? I’m busy too, you know.”

Lian Xun: “Sorry for the trouble, CEO Li. During these days that I’m away, please have Assistant Ling handle the projects related to Xun Qi Technologies.”

Li Yang: “…It’s not entirely impossible.”

On the night of Lian Xun’s birthday, Li Yang deliberately pretended to be drunk and insisted on dragging Ling Yu back to his place. Ling Yu spent the entire night taking care of the intoxicated Li Yang.

He cooked hangover soup and wiped him down, providing meticulous care.

Li Yang was both touched and excited. He even held Ling Yu’s hand tightly while sleeping, afraid that he would slip away from under his nose again.

But the next morning, when Li Yang opened his eyes full of tenderness, fantasizing that the first thing he’d see was Ling Yu’s cute sleeping face, he was instead greeted by a cold note.

[I left first. Breakfast is on the table.]

    Li Yang’s heart ached!

The road to chasing his wife was long and arduous!

Without the troubles of work, Lian Xun and Qi Luzhi slept soundly until noon before waking up. After a leisurely lunch, they began to enjoy their blissful time together.

Rain pattered outside the window, making it impossible to go out for the time being, so the two leaned on the sofa watching a movie, content.

Lian Xun opened his mouth to receive a peeled grape from Qi Luzhi and suddenly asked, “Qi-gege, I don’t think I know when your birthday is?”

Qi Luzhi’s birthday seemed to be a secret, not even listed on online encyclopedias.

Qi Luzhi turned his head to look at him, “Why the sudden interest in this?”

“You prepared such a thoughtful birthday surprise for me, I want to celebrate your birthday too,” Lian Xun said.

Qi Luzhi paused his hand that was peeling grapes and lowered his eyes, saying softly, “I don’t know either.”

Children who grew up in orphanages, how would they know when their birthday was?

The director usually used the day they first entered the orphanage as their birthday, but Qi Luzhi knew clearly that it wasn’t their real birthday at all.

Sometimes, he would wonder if his existence in this world was perhaps superfluous, otherwise why wouldn’t he have a single relative?

Lian Xun sat up, looking at Qi Luzhi with a distressed gaze, “So in all these years, you’ve never celebrated a birthday?”

Qi Luzhi glanced at him sideways, “Don’t look at me like that, there’s nothing to pity.”

Lian Xun pouted and hugged Qi Luzhi affectionately.

“Qi-gege, I will always be with you.”

“Of course, you have to be with me forever.” Qi Luzhi gently pushed Lian Xun away and stuffed another grape into his mouth. “Are we still watching the movie?”

“Watching.” Lian Xun sat properly, resting his head on Qi Luzhi’s shoulder.

Amidst the melodious and romantic music, the protagonists of the movie finally entered the halls of marriage, completely entrusting the rest of their lives to each other.

Lian Xun was so moved that his eyes were brimming with tears, but he didn’t want Qi Luzhi to see him, a grown man, crying so hard just from watching a movie.

    Too embarrassing!

He excused himself to go to the restroom, lowering his head and quickly running away.

After wiping away his tears, Lian Xun looked in the mirror. His moist eyes had a reddish tinge, making it obvious that he had just been crying.

He ruffled his hair over his forehead, trying to cover his eyes in a self-deceiving manner, before returning to the living room.

Qi Luzhi gently tugged his wrist, pulling him into his embrace, and suddenly said:

    “Lian Xun, let’s get married!”

    “…”

“What did you say?” Lian Xun didn’t react for a moment, his expression blank.

Qi Luzhi’s Adam’s apple bobbed twice as he slowly and firmly repeated, “I said, I want to marry you.”

If they got married, they could be legally and permanently bound together.

If they got married, Lian Xun would never be able to escape his side again.

If they got married, he would truly belong only to him, for a lifetime!

This time, Lian Xun heard every word especially clearly. His heart began to beat wildly, a huge wave of elation surging through every cell of his body, causing a dizzying explosion in his head.

Qi-gege said he wanted to marry him?

Lian Xun looked at the person in front of him repeatedly. That familiar and dear face seemed incredibly precious at this moment. His eyes were full of sincerity and anticipation, with a hint of nervousness.

“Why…the sudden proposal? Are you serious?”

Lian Xun’s mind was still dazed, and he didn’t know what he was saying.

Qi Luzhi’s eyes instantly dimmed, “You’re not willing?”

Lian Xun abruptly snapped back to his senses, trying his best to calm down from this huge surprise. He grabbed Qi Luzhi’s hand, “Willing, of course, I’m willing.”

His voice was so eager, as if afraid that Qi Luzhi would regret it the next second.

Qi Luzhi raised his eyes to meet Lian Xun’s gaze, his eyes filled with unbelievable joy, “You agreed?”

“Mhm, mhm, agreed.” Lian Xun nodded vigorously.

Tears welled up in his eyes, not a symbol of sadness, but tears of joy, tears of being overwhelmed with happiness.

The two embraced each other deeply, their pupils reflecting only each other’s figures, as if the entire world was left with just the two of them.

Lian Xun slowly closed his eyes, anticipating the tender kiss that was about to come.

After waiting for a long while, the expected kiss didn’t fall. Lian Xun tentatively pouted his lips, when a regretful voice suddenly rang in his ears.

“Was proposing like this too hasty?”

Lian Xun lifted his eyelids and saw Qi Luzhi looking at him with a guilty expression, “I’m sorry, I didn’t prepare a ring, I didn’t prepare anything. I’ll definitely make it up to you.”

“Qi-gege, do you know what you should be doing right now?”

Amidst Qi Luzhi’s puzzled gaze, Lian Xun smiled helplessly and leaned over to kiss Qi Luzhi’s lips.

He didn’t care about proposal ceremonies or anything like that at all. The only thing he cared about was the person beside him.

No matter when or where, or in what way he proposed, he would agree without hesitation.

But Qi Luzhi seemed to care very much, and for this reason, he spent two days personally drawing the design for the ring by hand.

Lian Xun wanted to see it, but Qi Luzhi hid it away, refusing to let him see it, saying that the only time Lian Xun would see the ring was when it was finished.

Lian Xun scratched his head in curiosity, but there was nothing he could do.

On the third day, the designs were sent for production, and Qi Luzhi specifically instructed the craftsmen to deliver the ring to his hand within ten days.

For some reason, he felt a sense of inexplicable unease at Lian Xun’s upcoming trip abroad, as if a dark cloud had quietly enveloped his heart.

That feeling was hard to describe, making it impossible for him to dispel this sense of vague anxiety, yet he knew clearly that he couldn’t stop Lian Xun from going abroad.

It is said that marriage is a sacred contract of love, and the ring is the eternal mark engraved on that contract.

Qi Luzhi wanted to give Lian Xun the ring before he left, as if doing so would imprint an exclusive mark on each other.

That way, Lian Xun would never leave him again!
