MLROCSHR Chapter 85
by VolareChapter 85: Sister-in-law Brother
He didn’t like celebrating birthdays.
Not since his mother passed away.
So, he didn’t tell anyone that tomorrow was his birthday.
Qi Luzhi went to An Sheng Group in the afternoon, saying he would be back very late, and told Lian Xun to go home first.
Actually, he didn’t go to An Sheng Group; he went somewhere else.
At nine in the evening, Lian Xun finished bathing Wangcai and played with it in the Living Room, waiting for Qi Luzhi to come back.
“Wangcai, have you gotten taller? Come, stand up and let me see.” Lian Xun grabbed Wangcai’s two front paws, making it stand on his legs.
Wangcai squeaked twice, standing steadily while swaying, looking like a one-year-old child.
A relieved smile appeared on Lian Xun’s face, like an old father. He reached for a biscuit from the coffee table. As soon as Wangcai saw the food, it eagerly snatched it, jumped onto the back of the sofa in two or three steps, sat with its back to Lian Xun, and began to savor it with relish.
“You little Wangcai, you don’t even recognize your dad when there’s food?” Lian Xun said angrily.
As if understanding his words, Wangcai stared at Lian Xun with its round, shiny eyes, then jumped into his arms, nudging Lian Xun’s chin with its head.
This intimate gesture really worked. Lian Xun immediately chuckled, willingly handing Wangcai another banana.
As the two were happily playing, a commotion suddenly came from outside. The door was flung open with a bang, and Wei Xueming came in, carrying a large gift box.
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY, haha, surprised? Unexpected?”
Following him, Li Yang and Li Yu also entered with two large bags each, smiling. Li Yu poked her head out from behind Li Yang, raising her chin at Lian Xun, “Happy birthday, sister-in-law brother.”
“You, you guys…”
Before Lian Xun could recover from the shock, Qi Luzhi, who was the last to enter, walked slowly towards Lian Xun, holding a large bouquet of roses in his left hand and a two-tiered cake in his right.
He placed the cake on the coffee table and handed the bouquet to Lian Xun, who was still in a daze.
“I don’t know how you like to celebrate your birthday, so I can only celebrate it with the most ordinary methods.”
“Flowers, cake, and a birthday party. You won’t think I’m old-fashioned, will you?”
Qi Luzhi looked at Lian Xun’s blank expression, his heart beating faster, filled with anticipation and a hint of nervousness.
This was the first time he was celebrating Lian Xun’s birthday, and he had meticulously and clumsily planned this surprise.
But he had never celebrated a birthday himself, and he didn’t know how a person celebrating their birthday felt, or what they expected. He could only imitate what he had learned from others and arrange it all for Lian Xun.
What others had, his Lian Xun must also have.
Lian Xun looked down at the huge bouquet in his arms, which he couldn’t hold with both hands, and then scanned the friends who were smiling at him, his gaze returning to Qi Luzhi’s face.
His nose suddenly felt a little sore.
“Qi-gege, how did you know it was my birthday? And you prepared all this for me…”
He couldn’t remember when he was last surrounded by so many people celebrating his birthday.
Lian Xun’s heart seemed to be gently touched, and an unspeakable happiness and emotion quietly spread.
Qi Luzhi watched as Lian Xun’s clear eyes were moistened with a layer of mist, his brow furrowing slightly, “You don’t like what I prepared?”
“No.” Lian Xun shook his head, “I like it, I like it very, very much.”
“It’s good that you like it, don’t cry, it makes it seem like I’m bullying you.” Qi Luzhi smiled in relief, reaching out to wipe away the tears from the corner of Lian Xun’s eyes.
“Alright, you two, really, making it so emotional over a birthday.”
Wei Xueming rudely squeezed between the two, forcibly separating them, and then beckoned for Li Yang and Li Yu to put the bags in their hands on the table.
“Let’s eat first, or it’ll get cold,” Li Yang said.
“That’s right, my brother and I specially packed this from Xuan Cheng’s best Longxi Restaurant,” Li Yu said with a giggle, looking at Lian Xun, “They’re all dishes you love.”
“Thank you all.” Lian Xun put the flowers on the sofa and came over to take a look. They really were all dishes he loved. He asked curiously, “But how did you know what I like to eat?”
Li Yang placed the last dish on the table, his eyes glancing towards someone preparing the bowls and chopsticks in the kitchen, “We don’t know, but someone knows.”
“Ah, I’m so envious of sister-in-law brother, having Qi Luzhi-gege as such a considerate and loving boyfriend who loves him to death,” Li Yu exclaimed with envy.
“Of course, my boyfriend is the best in the world.”
Lian Xun flaunted without hesitation, secretly feeling pleased.
“Oh, right, why do you keep calling me sister-in-law brother?” Li Yu had been calling him that since she came in, and Lian Xun found it very awkward.
“Because I already have a sister-in-law. In order to avoid confusing you with my own sister-in-law, I think I’ll just call you sister-in-law brother from now on.”
Li Yu explained seriously, which sounded quite reasonable at first.
The sister-in-law she was talking about, couldn’t be Ling Yu, could it?
Lian Xun secretly observed Li Yang’s expression, not daring to ask.
Alas, he wondered when this pair of enemies would reconcile.
Qi Luzhi came over with the bowls and chopsticks, seeing everyone standing around the table in a circle, he said, “Everyone sit down, you’re still being so polite in my house.”
“I’m not being polite.” Wei Xueming sat down with a thud, pouring himself a glass of wine first.
Wangcai was attracted by the aroma of the food, but didn’t dare to reach out to grab the food from the plates, anxiously jumping up and down beside the table.
“Clang—”
Wei Xueming’s newly poured glass of wine was kicked over by Wangcai.
Wei Xueming suddenly stood up, grabbing Wangcai by the scruff of its neck and lifting it into the air, cursing, “You stinky monkey, why do you always have to mess with me? Do you know how much this glass of wine costs? Huh? Jumping around here, want to eat? There’s none for you.”
Wangcai struggled desperately, to no avail, pitifully casting a look of help towards Lian Xun.
Lian Xun hurriedly snatched Wangcai and placed it on the table, patting its head, not forgetting to scold Wei Xueming, “Why are you bothering with a monkey? It doesn’t understand anything.”
Wei Xueming was unconvinced, “It doesn’t understand? I think it’s very clever.”
He narrowed his eyes, tentatively saying to Wangcai, “How about this, you pour me a glass of wine, and I’ll allow you to eat the food on the table.”
Hearing this, Qi Luzhi glanced at Wei Xueming as if he were an idiot, “If it can pour wine, I’ll treat you to a month’s worth of drinks.”
The next second, Wangcai moved along the edge of the table to Wei Xueming, propped up the wine glass it had just knocked over, and then held up the wine bottle with its two paws, shakily pouring a small half-glass.
Everyone present was stunned, including Lian Xun and Qi Luzhi.
“Wow, this monkey is too smart, isn’t it? If you guys teach it well, maybe it can achieve great things in the future!” Li Yu made a serious suggestion.
Li Yang couldn’t help but pat her on the back of the head, retorting, “No matter how smart it is, it’s still just a monkey, what great things can it achieve?”
Wei Xueming, after being stunned for two seconds, excitedly picked up Wangcai and kissed it several times, then looked at Qi Luzhi, “You said it, you’re paying for my drinks next month.”
Qi Luzhi: “What drinks? Did I say that?”
Wei Xueming got anxious, “Hey, don’t try to go back on your word, so many people are watching.”
Li Yang: “Wangcai, come over and pour me a glass.”
Li Yu: “Me too, me too.”
Amidst the chaos, Lian Xun faintly heard the cell phone that had been thrown on the sofa ringing urgently.
“I’ll go answer the phone.”
