Chapter 52: Only Like Him In This Lifetime

A message suddenly popped up on his phone, sent by Gao Jingqian, saying he was downstairs and asking if Lian Xun had time to meet and chat.

Lian Xun’s feelings were complex, with a sense of guilt.

After all, he was also a member of the Lian family, and the Lian family was the culprit who caused Gao Jingqian’s father’s death.

He couldn’t guarantee whether Gao Jingqian would vent his anger on him.

Even if he did, it was understandable.

Blood ties were something he couldn’t change.

Lian Xun didn’t dwell on it for too long and decided to meet Gao Jingqian.

Qi Luzhi had sent that letter to Gao Jingqian long ago, but Gao Jingqian only came to him now, presumably after careful consideration.

He had no reason not to meet.

The meeting place was chosen at a high-end Restaurant not far from the company, with an elegant and quiet environment. Even during the evening peak hours when there were the most people, only soothing classical music could be heard inside the Restaurant, without the slightest noise.

Entering the private room, Gao Jingqian considerately pulled out a chair for Lian Xun. Lian Xun politely thanked him and sat down beside him.

A trace of embarrassment flashed across Gao Jingqian’s face as he sat down opposite Lian Xun.

“Jingqian Ge, you’re looking for me, is there something you want to say?” Lian Xun cut straight to the point.

Having not seen him for many days, Gao Jingqian seemed much more haggard, and his eyes under his glasses were deeply sunken.

He stretched out his index finger to push up his gold-rimmed glasses and smiled self-deprecatingly, “We’re at least friends, right? Why does every time I look for you have to be about something?”

“That’s not what I meant.” Lian Xun picked up his teacup and took a sip, his expression slightly restrained.

Now, he really didn’t know how to face Gao Jingqian.

“Ah Xun, you don’t have to be like this in front of me.” Gao Jingqian’s tone was gentle. “I know, you’re more upset about that matter than I am, after all, both sides are family…”

Lian Xun’s hand holding the teacup trembled visibly.

Gao Jingqian paused and continued, “I came to you to tell you that in my heart, you will always be the Ah Xun I played with as a child, that won’t change.”

The sins committed by Lian Feng, he would make Lian Feng pay for them.

The Gao family didn’t have much involvement overseas, and still needed to strategize, but the gift he recently sent to Lian Feng was enough to give him a hard time.

It was precisely because of Gao Jingqian’s intervention that Lian Feng was overwhelmed and hadn’t been looking for trouble with Lian Xun recently.

Gao Jingqian didn’t know that this was precisely the purpose of the letter Qi Luzhi had sent him.

“Ah Xun, if you’re willing, I can become your support.” Gao Jingqian naively thought that with his magnanimity, Lian Xun might waver.

Lian Xun immediately interrupted Gao Jingqian, staring earnestly into his eyes, “Jingqian Ge, you’ve always taken care of me, I’m very grateful, so I also respect you as my own brother.”

“But, I can’t give you other feelings.” Lian Xun continued, “I’m with Qi Luzhi now, I like him, and I’ll only like him in this lifetime.”

Lian Xun’s tone was firm, and when he mentioned Qi Luzhi, his eyes sparkled.

Gao Jingqian’s eyes under his glasses were deep and dark, and his lips were tightly pursed.

He knew that he had completely lost his chance.

“Then if… I mean if, you hadn’t gone abroad back then, hadn’t met Qi Luzhi, would we have…”

“There are no ifs.” Lian Xun smiled slightly, “The people who are meant to meet will meet no matter what.”

Gao Jingqian lowered his eyes, slowly turning the teacup on the table in his hand, and fell into silence.

After a while, he raised his head and smiled pretending to be relaxed, “Since that’s the case, it’s good as long as you’re happy. As your… brother, of course I’ll bless you.”

Although he was now insanely jealous of that guy named Qi, he wasn’t stupid and wouldn’t make pointless persistence.

That would only make Lian Xun drift further and further away from him.

“Really?” Lian Xun looked grateful. “Thank you, Jingqian Ge.”

“You call me ‘Ge’ every day, and you’re still so polite.”

The Waiter/Waitress brought the dishes up, and Gao Jingqian pushed the plate towards Lian Xun, “Let’s eat and chat.”

“Okay, Jingqian Ge, you eat too.”

The atmosphere gradually became relaxed, as if it was just a casual chat between brothers who hadn’t seen each other for many days.

Lian Xun still felt guilty, and he apologized to Gao Jingqian. The other party just comforted him, saying that this matter had nothing to do with him and that he shouldn’t take the blame on himself just because he was a member of the Lian family.

After the Meal, Gao Jingqian insisted on driving Lian Xun home. Lian Xun declined many times to no avail and had to compromise.

When the car stopped at the Villa’s entrance, Lian Xun saw the lights on in the windows and began to wonder.

Shouldn’t Qi Luzhi still be on a business trip?

    Did he come back early?

Lian Xun couldn’t wait to get out of the car, and the person walking towards him was indeed Qi Luzhi.

Before he could be happy, the person opposite him suddenly exuded waves of hostility, and his extremely cold eyes looked past Lian Xun, staring straight at the person behind him.

Lian Xun felt a chill run down his spine and turned around to see Gao Jingqian also getting out of the car, looking at Qi Luzhi provocatively.

He was speechless. Didn’t he say he would offer blessings? What was he doing?

Qi Luzhi walked forward, took Lian Xun’s hand, came in front of Gao Jingqian, and smiled while gritting his teeth, “Thank you for bringing my Lian Xun home.”

He deliberately emphasized the words “my Lian Xun.”

Gao Jingqian was still as elegant and graceful as ever, “You’re welcome.”

Then he turned to Lian Xun, “Ah Xun, I had a very pleasant Meal tonight. If there’s anything you need in the future, feel free to find Jingqian Ge anytime.”

“Okay.” Lian Xun replied reflexively, and suddenly felt a threatening gaze from beside him.

“He has me, so there’s no need to trouble President Gao.” Qi Luzhi changed from holding Lian Xun’s hand to putting his arm around his shoulders, looking sharply at Gao Jingqian, “Now that the person has been delivered, President Gao, please go back. Goodbye, don’t let me see you out!”

After saying that, Qi Luzhi turned around, suppressing the jealousy and anger in his chest as much as possible, and almost dragged Lian Xun back to the Villa.

Only he knew what it felt like to sacrifice sleep time these past two days, working overtime to rush back tonight to give Lian Xun a surprise, only to find that he had run off to have dinner with another man.

As soon as they entered the door, Qi Luzhi pushed Lian Xun against the wall. The next second, Lian Xun’s breath was fiercely taken away.

Qi Luzhi’s movements could be considered rough, with a hint of punishment, and his hands tightly clutching his waist were so strong as if he wanted to rub Lian Xun into his arms.

Lian Xun felt his lower lip being bitten slightly painfully, but this slight discomfort was quickly diluted by the surprise of Qi Luzhi’s early return.

He responded with chaotic breaths, until his brain was deprived of oxygen, and he had to turn his head to avoid it.

Qi Luzhi pressed his forehead against his, his eyes bloodshot, and his low voice carried an undeniable possessiveness.

“I told you to stay away from that guy, why don’t you listen?”
