MLROCSHR Chapter 39
by VolareChapter 39: What to Do When Your Husband is Too Clingy
A few days later, Qi Luzhi and Lian Xun arrived in City Z based on clues provided by their informant and went straight to the city center hospital.
Although Lian Xun was puzzled – Chen Shu’s son wasn’t even in City Z. Why would they go to such lengths to come to City Z for treatment, and why was there no record of Chen Shu’s wife being admitted to the hospital?
But the informant had clearly taken photos, and had done so for two consecutive days.
Lian Xun didn’t want to let this lead go, so he decided to wait and see.
After waiting all morning without any results, Lian Xun couldn’t hide the disappointment on his face.
“There’s no need to rush. I’ve arranged for people to keep watch here. If they spot Chen Shu, they’ll contact us immediately.” Qi Luzhi comforted him. “There’s a park nearby, let’s go for a walk.”
He originally wanted to take Lian Xun out to relax, but since this morning, Lian Xun had been so gloomy. Qi Luzhi felt very guilty.
“Okay,” Lian Xun nodded.
There wasn’t a better option at the moment.
“Wait for me, I’m going to the restroom.”
Lian Xun got up and walked towards the restroom at the end of the corridor, Qi Luzhi closely following behind him.
“I’m just going to the restroom, you don’t have to follow me,” Lian Xun said helplessly, turning to look at Qi Luzhi, who was only a step away.
“We’re both men, what’s the big deal?” Qi Luzhi insisted on following.
“…Fine, follow me if you want.”
These days, Qi Luzhi had been clinging to Lian Xun at all times, not letting him out of his sight for even half a step, as if Lian Xun would suddenly sprout wings and fly away.
Lian Xun understood that this was Qi Luzhi’s way of showing his insecurity.
After regaining what he had lost, he was even more afraid of losing it again.
This side of Qi Luzhi made Lian Xun’s heart ache. Although Qi Luzhi always pretended to be indifferent, how could he hide anything from someone whose heart and eyes were only on him?
But it didn’t matter, Lian Xun would let Qi Luzhi cling to him until he once again became the safe harbor in his heart.
In the park, the paths meandered, and even though it was winter, the trees on both sides were still lush and green, full of life.
Most of the people were family members of patients from the nearby hospital, strolling and relaxing with their hospitalized loved ones, hoping that the blue sky and greenery would lift their spirits.
Lian Xun and Qi Luzhi walked side by side, their steps light and gentle. Qi Luzhi, afraid that Lian Xun would get cold, took his hand and put it in his own pocket.
Lian Xun struggled twice, but couldn’t break free.
He leaned in close to Qi Luzhi’s ear and whispered, “There are so many people here, aren’t you afraid of being seen?”
Qi Luzhi said, “You’re so good-looking, it’s normal for people to want to take a few more glances.”
Lian Xun: “…”
It sounded like a compliment, but something felt off. That wasn’t what he was asking.
But he was a little happy nonetheless.
In the distance, a couple was flying a kite with their child on the lawn. The child looked about seven or eight years old, thin and small, wearing a hospital gown, but with a bright smile on their face.
Lian Xun suddenly remembered Li Yang’s words from that night. He tilted his head and asked Qi Luzhi, “Qi-gege, do you like children?”
“Why are you asking that all of a sudden?”
“I just wanted to know if you would also want a child of your own?” Lian Xun’s eyes flickered.
Qi Luzhi pretended to ponder for a moment, then stopped walking, turned to look at Lian Xun, his eyes filled with resentment and a hint of warning. “Do you want a child of your own? But you can’t have children with me. If you really like them, can’t we adopt one?”
“…”
Lian Xun’s brain short-circuited for two seconds, and he quickly shook his head. “No, I haven’t had enough of our two-person world yet.”
Qi Luzhi’s expression softened, and he raised his hand to pinch Lian Xun’s pink nose, smiling without saying a word.
In the afternoon, as it approached dinner time, the person staking out the hospital finally sent a message saying that they had spotted Chen Shu.
Lian Xun and Qi Luzhi rushed back to the hospital and stopped Chen Daxue at the elevator of the inpatient department, just as he was about to leave after delivering food to his wife.
“Chen Shu,” Lian Xun called out.
The middle-aged man in front of him, although his hair was already gray and he looked much more haggard, Lian Xun wouldn’t mistake him for anyone else. He was Chen Shu.
The man looked over at the sound of his name, and when he saw who was calling him, a look of terror flashed across his eyes. He hastily tried to leave, but Qi Luzhi blocked his path on the other side.
“You… you’ve mistaken me for someone else,” the man said, holding a thermos cup, looking down and stubbornly refusing to speak.
“Don’t be afraid, we just want to ask you some questions, and then we’ll leave,” Qi Luzhi said in a cold tone, but with just the right amount of politeness to make it impossible to refuse.
“Chen Shu, it’s me, Lian Xun. Don’t you remember me?” Lian Xun walked quickly to Chen Daxue’s side, speaking anxiously.
Chen Daxue slowly raised his head and carefully looked at the young man in front of him, his expression softening slightly.
After all, this was the child he had watched grow up. Although he had been stricter with Lian Xun since he was young because of Lian Xun’s father’s instructions, he actually liked this child very much in his heart.
“You should go. I know what you want to ask, but I don’t know, I don’t know anything,” Chen Daxue waved his hand, refusing to mention the events of that year.
“Do you know something about the true cause of my mother’s death?” Lian Xun grabbed Chen Shu’s arm, wanting to continue pressing him for answers.
This was his only hope, he couldn’t give up.
The two sides were deadlocked for a long time, but Chen Shu still refused to reveal a single word.
“Forget it, he seems to have his own difficulties,” Qi Luzhi said, unable to bear to continue pressuring him, and patted Lian Xun on the shoulder.
Lian Xun glanced at Qi Luzhi, took out a pen and paper from his pocket, quickly wrote down his contact information, and stuffed it into Chen Shu’s hand.
“Chen Shu, if you remember anything, please be sure to contact me. If Auntie has any difficulties with her medical treatment, you can also contact me…”
“There’s no need to trouble Young Master Lian, I won’t contact you.”
Before Lian Xun could finish speaking, Chen Daxue had already left in a hurry. However, he didn’t throw away the piece of paper with the contact information on it, but quietly crumpled it in his hand.
Although he had successfully met Chen Shu, he hadn’t been able to get any useful information. Lian Xun returned to the hotel and sank into the sofa with a lack of energy.
Qi Luzhi sighed, sat down next to Lian Xun, pulled him into his arms, and rested his chin on his shoulder.
“Don’t be sad, we’ve already found Chen Shu, that’s good news, isn’t it?” Qi Luzhi gently kissed Lian Xun’s earlobe. “We’ll go ask again tomorrow. If not tomorrow, then the day after, we’ll be able to get something out of him eventually.”
“I know.”
Under Qi Luzhi’s comfort, Lian Xun’s mood gradually improved. He turned his head, cupped Qi Luzhi’s face in his hands, and looked into his deep eyes.
“Qi-gege, you’re a bit like you were in university now, a gentle older brother, not an ice block!”
Qi Luzhi frowned, narrowing his eyes dangerously. “When was I ever an ice block?”
“You always were before, it was scary!” Lian Xun shrank his neck, replying fearlessly.
Qi Luzhi was stunned for two seconds, then reached out and pulled him back into his arms, his tone gentle. “I understand, I’ll pay attention in the future.”
“Oh?” Lian Xun looked surprised. Why was Qi Luzhi being so obedient right now?
But he liked it!
After staying in one position for too long, Lian Xun felt his arms and legs start to go numb. He wiggled a few times. “Qi-gege, can you let go of me for a bit? My legs are a little numb.”
Qi Luzhi: “No, let me hold you for a little longer.”
Lian Xun: “…”
Being too clingy isn’t always a good thing T_T
