Chapter 28: From Now On, I’ll Protect You

This time, it’s a big mess!

Lian Xun’s first reaction was that he couldn’t implicate Qi Luzhi.

He hurriedly threw off the covers and got out of bed to find Qi Luzhi. The entire villa was empty. It seemed Qi Luzhi had also received the news and gone to the company early.

Lian Xun didn’t dare delay, quickly washed up, and rushed to the company.

From a distance, he saw a crowd of reporters with long lenses and cameras, craning their necks and squeezing towards the entrance of the Sheng Shao Group Building. Six or seven security guards were barely holding them back.

Lian Xun quickly told the taxi driver to stop further away from the company entrance and got out of the car, walking around to the other side of the building.

There was a presidential-only elevator there, known only to Qi Luzhi and Li Yang. It was rarely used, but it was there to deal with situations like today.

The last time they worked overtime late at night, Qi Luzhi had also told him about this top-secret elevator.

The elevator went directly to the top floor. Lian Xun arrived at the Office and saw Feng Nuo constantly answering and making calls at her workstation, wishing she had three heads and six arms.

“Where’s Qi Luzhi?” Lian Xun asked anxiously.

Feng Nuo didn’t have time to reply, but just pointed to the President’s Office.

Pushing open the door, Qi Luzhi was standing expressionlessly in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, looking at the densely packed reporters below. His slender fingers were unconsciously stroking the tassels of the curtains.

The sunlight shone through the glass onto his exquisite profile, casting a shadow on his eyelashes.

Lian Xun adjusted his breathing and asked casually, “What are you looking at?”

Hearing familiar footsteps behind him, Qi Luzhi turned around, slightly surprised, “Didn’t I tell Ling Yu to tell you not to come to the company yet?”

“I caused the trouble, how can I not come?”

Lian Xun walked to Qi Luzhi’s side, also looked out the window, and sighed softly: “There are more and more reporters.”

Qi Luzhi pulled the curtains shut with a whoosh, put his hands in his suit pants pockets, and a hint of impatience appeared between his brows, “Hmph, a bunch of flies.”

He was most annoyed by these reporters. They didn’t report what should be reported, but when they encountered these trivial gossip, they swarmed like flies smelling shit.

Lian Xun turned his head, his eyes falling on Qi Luzhi’s tense jawline.

He felt extremely guilty and remorseful. It was all his fault for making such a big scene and causing unnecessary trouble for Qi Luzhi.

What if it caused Qi Luzhi to give him an even lower score? Wouldn’t it be even harder to win him over?

    Did Qi Luzhi hate him?

The more Lian Xun thought about it, the more confused he became.

With a “ding,” the guest Elevator reached the top floor.

Qi Luzhi looked at his phone. It was a message from Secretary Feng Nuo: The reporters are coming up.

“I’ll go deal with them.” Lian Xun straightened his collar and turned to leave.

His wrist was suddenly grabbed. Qi Luzhi’s palm was warm. “No need.”

    “But…”

“I said no need.” Qi Luzhi’s voice was unquestionable. “You wait here.”

“From now on, I’ll protect you!”

Qi Luzhi said each word clearly.

What happened yesterday was because he didn’t protect Lian Xun well. He couldn’t let Lian Xun face the storm alone again.

Lian Xun looked at his back, and a strange feeling arose in his heart.

This feeling of being protected made him feel both at ease and uneasy.

Li Yang stopped Qi Luzhi at the door. “How about I come forward?”

    “No need, thanks.”

It was best for the person involved to personally clarify the rumors.

The elevator doors opened, and reporters swarmed out, rushing towards Qi Luzhi.

Qi Luzhi stood in the middle of the corridor, his gaze stern: “Everyone, this is an office area, please keep quiet.”

“President Qi, is it true that you and President Lian of Xun Qi Technologies are in a romantic relationship?”

“There are rumors that you are already living together. Is that true?”

“Did Lian Xun get Sheng Shao’s investment because of your relationship?”

Questions were thrown one after another, and Qi Luzhi’s expression became increasingly ugly.

Just then, Lian Xun walked out.

    “Everyone.”

His voice was clear, like a mountain stream, instantly silencing the noisy corridor.

Qi Luzhi frowned at him, but saw Lian Xun showing a gentle smile: “Xun Qi Technologies and Sheng Shao Group are just normal cooperative partners. I hope everyone will not overinterpret it.”

“Yesterday’s century confession was indeed my doing…”

The crowd was in an uproar!

Lian Xun took a deep breath and continued, “This… is just my wishful thinking. It has nothing to do with President Qi.”

The reporters instantly turned their heads and surged towards Lian Xun, wanting to ask for more details.

Qi Luzhi took a step forward, grabbing Lian Xun’s hand, and under Li Yang’s cover, they got into the nearest Elevator: “Sorry, I have an urgent business trip, and President Lian is coming with me. Everyone, please go back.”

The elevator doors closed, and the horde of reporters was blocked outside. Lian Xun breathed a sigh of relief. Qi Luzhi suddenly approached, pinning him in the corner of the elevator: “Why did you come out?”

“I…” Lian Xun looked up, meeting Qi Luzhi’s deep eyes. His heart suddenly beat faster, “I caused the trouble myself, I’ll handle it myself.”

“Is this how you handle it?” Qi Luzhi’s voice was low, “Attracting all the attention to yourself, making people think you’re hopelessly in love with me, pestering me relentlessly, and I’m just an innocent victim?”

“Isn’t that the truth?” Lian Xun looked away: “I don’t want to cause you trouble.”

“You’re never a trouble.” Qi Luzhi said, releasing him and standing up straight.

The elevator fell silent, but Lian Xun felt his ears burning. He secretly glanced at Qi Luzhi’s profile and found that the tips of the other’s ears seemed to be a little red as well.

Feng Nuo finally managed to persuade the reporters to leave, and Qi Luzhi and Lian Xun returned.

In the Office, Lian Xun plopped down on the sofa and couldn’t help complaining, “Who the hell spread the rumor that we’re together? Besides Li Yang, does anyone else in the company know about me and you?”

Feng Nuo’s hand, pouring tea, suddenly trembled, spilling it all over the table.

“Secretary Feng, are you burned?” Qi Luzhi asked with concern.

“No, it’s okay.” Feng Nuo replied guiltily, her face turning red and white.

Lian Xun noticed her abnormality, as if realizing something, “Feng Nuo, could it be you?”

“I’m sorry, President Lian! I’m sorry, President Qi!” Feng Nuo took a few steps back, lowering her head sharply, “I, I just casually said a few words to my best friend. I told her to keep it a secret, but I didn’t expect her to post random comments online…”

“What? It’s really you?” Lian Xun jumped up.

He was just casually guessing. Good heavens, he guessed right!

Qi Luzhi rubbed his temples, “Secretary Feng, who told you we were in a romantic relationship?”

“No one told me. I guessed.” Feng Nuo said softly.

    Lian Xun: “…”

    Qi Luzhi: “…”

“I, I saw you and President Lian in the Office several times… It’s normal to have such thoughts, right!”

Lian Xun’s ears turned red, and Qi Luzhi also coughed lightly, interrupting Feng Nuo’s next words.

“Forget it, you can leave. Control the public opinion and don’t let those reporters write nonsense.” Qi Luzhi ordered coldly, “Also, book two tickets to Shangjiang City.”

“Okay, I’ll do it right away.” Feng Nuo nodded vigorously, thinking that her boss was really nice. She had caused such a big mess, and the boss didn’t say anything.

“In addition, deduct three months of performance pay, go!” Qi Luzhi said lightly.

    “…”

    “Yes.”

    Hehe, as expected!

What was supposed to come, came after all!

Feng Nuo instantly felt as if she had been splashed with cold water, and she wilted.

She secretly vowed that she would never gossip casually again!
