Chapter 27 Can I sleep in your room?
In the car.
Qi Luzhi finished applying the medicine for Lian Xun before asking, “What exactly happened?”
Lian Xun is with him every day; he shouldn’t have offended anyone.
Lian Xun was silent for a while, the dim car light casting shadows on his profile, making it hard to discern his expression.
“I can probably guess who did it.”
It was most likely the doing of his good older brother again. He had always created obstacles for his company, but Lian Xun had always turned a blind eye, too lazy to retaliate as long as it didn’t cause too much trouble.
But this time, why did he suddenly resort to such heavy-handed tactics? This was what he couldn’t figure out.
“Is it related to your investigation of the events from that year?” Qi Luzhi asked again, his tone noticeably more anxious.
“…”
That’s right, how could he have forgotten that? Lian Xun was instantly enlightened.
He had arranged for the informant to meet him today, so it must be related to the old events from that year.
Someone was afraid he would uncover the truth!
Lian Xun looked at Qi Luzhi, “Thank you for reminding me.”
“So, you still don’t plan to tell me what’s going on?”
Qi Luzhi frowned, his tone dissatisfied and somewhat aggrieved, “You said you wouldn’t lie to me anymore.”
Lian Xun ran a hand through his hair, his mind in a mess, “It’s not that I want to lie to you, it’s just that I don’t know where to begin with all the mess in my family.”
“In short, this matter should be related to the fire from that year. Once I’ve figured it out, I’ll slowly tell you everything.”
“Okay.” Qi Luzhi gave Lian Xun a deep look.
Seven years apart, he had too many secrets: his break with his family, the scars on his back, the fire from that year…
Each and every one of them was something Qi Luzhi didn’t know or understand.
A strong sense of powerlessness suddenly arose in his heart; he wanted to protect Lian Xun, but he didn’t know what to do.
“Qi-gege, would you like to go back to Shangjiang City to take a look?” Lian Xun suddenly asked.
He couldn’t use the informant anymore, so he decided to personally return to the old residence to see if he could find any clues.
“You want to go back to your old home to investigate yourself?” Qi Luzhi asked knowingly.
Lian Xun smiled, “You guessed it.”
“I want you to come with me, okay?”
Qi Luzhi also slightly curled his lips, his heart feeling as if it were being tickled by a feather, itchy.
He really was becoming more and more unable to resist Lian Xun’s attempts to act cute with him.
“Okay, I’ll go with you.”
“I really love you so much!”
Lian Xun leaned over and kissed Qi Luzhi on the cheek. Qi Luzhi’s whole body stiffened, his ears turning red at a speed visible to the naked eye.
Lian Xun was sometimes… too enthusiastic!
Could he have been like this with others before?
His heart suddenly felt sour, like he had eaten a plum.
The car drove for a while before Lian Xun belatedly exclaimed, “Oops, today’s interview…”
He had completely forgotten!
He wondered if Qi Luzhi had gone to the interview.
“I canceled the interview,” Qi Luzhi said nonchalantly.
Lian Xun became anxious, “That’s INJ, and you just canceled it like that? What could possibly be worth canceling an INJ interview for?”
Qi Luzhi glanced at Lian Xun, “There is something.”
Lian Xun was more important than the interview.
More important than anything!
“Well… you still shouldn’t have canceled the interview,” Lian Xun’s voice grew softer and softer.
He knew that Qi Luzhi had canceled the interview for him, so it would be a lie to say he wasn’t happy. To say more would just seem affected.
Back at the Villa, Lian Xun went to the bathroom to shower, while Qi Luzhi went to the kitchen to make soup for him. When Lian Xun came out, he saw the busy figure in the kitchen and felt a little unrealistically happy.
Suddenly, a little voice in his head poured a bucket of cold water over him:
Wake up! He hasn’t agreed to be with you yet, you’re just staying here temporarily!
Ugh, so annoying!
Lian Xun haphazardly dried his hair and shouted at Qi Luzhi with a smile, “Chef, is it ready yet? I’m starving!”
Qi Luzhi brought the cooked fish soup to the table, set out the bowls and chopsticks, and beckoned Lian Xun to come and eat.
The dinner table was unusually quiet.
Lian Xun didn’t say a word, just focused on eating!
On one hand, he was indeed hungry after a whole afternoon of messing around.
On the other hand, the person across from him wasn’t touching his chopsticks, and had been staring intently at him ever since he sat down!
In his deep eyes, there were three parts heartache, three parts affection, and four parts that he couldn’t understand.
Even someone as thick-skinned as Lian Xun, who at first could occasionally praise Qi Luzhi’s cooking skills and give him a flirtatious glance, eventually gave up, his face red as he lowered his head to eat without saying a word.
Lian Xun felt his ears getting hotter and hotter, and the sound of his heart pounding was clearly audible.
Could Qi Luzhi have added something to the soup? Why was he getting hotter the more he drank?
Lian Xun glanced up, and Qi Luzhi was still staring at him, as if he wanted to see right through him.
What was wrong with this person? He was usually too lazy to even give him a proper look, so he wasn’t used to him looking at him like this.
He should find something to talk about; it was too awkward like this.
“Um, can I sleep in your room tonight?”
“…”
Damn mouth, what are you saying!
Lian Xun covered his forehead; this was even more embarrassing.
Qi Luzhi across from him paused for a moment, then slowly replied, “It’s not that I…” can’t!
Lian Xun suddenly said, “Forget it, I knew you wouldn’t agree anyway, I’ll just go back to the Guestroom.”
Qi Luzhi’s last two words hadn’t even been spoken before Lian Xun interrupted him.
“No, I mean…” he said anxiously, wanting to explain.
“No need to say anything, I understand,” Lian Xun waved his hand, acting as if it were normal, “Anyway, I’m tired enough today, so I’ll go back to rest first.”
With that, he finished the fish soup in his bowl in two or three mouthfuls, wiped his mouth, and turned away without looking back.
Qi Luzhi’s eyes followed Lian Xun’s figure until he disappeared around the corner of the stairs, and then he licked his dry lower lip and couldn’t help but smile wryly.
For a while before, Lian Xun had used every trick in the book to pursue him, openly and secretly, but he had always teased him and then left him hanging, not giving him satisfaction, which had made Lian Xun stomp his feet in anger.
Well, he was getting his just desserts now!
Qi Luzhi cleaned up the remains of the meal on the table and silently went to the bathroom for a cold shower.
*
The next day was a rare sunny day in winter, and early in the morning, bright and cheerful sunlight streamed in through the gaps in the curtains.
Lian Xun was awakened by a burst of urgent ringtones.
“Boss, this is bad, Boss!” Ling Yu’s excitable voice came through.
Lian Xun moved the phone away from his ear, frowning impatiently.
“What’s wrong? Did someone leak game materials online again?”
“No, no, it’s much more serious than that.” Ling Yu’s tone was so urgent that it sounded like the Earth was about to be destroyed in the next second.
“Yesterday’s century confession was reported by several media outlets, and now there are rumors online that it was actually Boss you who confessed to President Qi! They’re saying it’s authoritative news from core employees within Sheng Shao, guaranteed to be true!”
“They’re also saying online that you guys have been together for a long time, and that President Qi invested in this game project because of your relationship, using his position for personal gain. That’s too much!”
“The company has already exploded this morning. A large group of reporters is surrounding the entrance. Boss, you should probably not come to the company for now…”
Ling Yu’s voice was gradually drowned out by the noisy background, and Lian Xun numbly put down his phone, his head buzzing.
