Chapter 61: The Long Road to Chasing a Wife

The doorbell rang as Zhuo Huaimo stood by the French windows, lost in thought.

Shao Fan stood at the door, holding a bottle of red wine and a file folder, his face as pale as paper.

Just as the two of them sat down, the door opened with a “ding.”

Zhuo Huaimo rolled his eyes, speechless.

“Do you really think this is your home?”

    “Borrowing some soy sauce.”

Qi Yanwang leaned against the door frame, his gaze provocatively sweeping over Shao Fan.

“My chef says your soy sauce is more fragrant.”

Zhuo Huaimo gritted his teeth. “You just moved in this afternoon. Where did you get a chef?”

    “Just hired a three-Michelin-star chef,”

Qi Yanwang shook the soy sauce bottle. “Now I’m short on seasoning.”

He suddenly leaned close to Zhuo Huaimo’s ear. “Or perhaps I’m short on a taste tester—”

    “Get out!”

Zhuo Huaimo slammed the door, but Qi Yanwang wedged his foot in the gap, forcing his way in. Feigning ignorance, he asked,

“Oh, Director Shao is here too.”

He walked straight to the kitchen. “You guys chat, I’ll make a cup of coffee and leave.”

    Shao Fan looked displeased.

    “President Qi, this is…”

    “Neighbor!”

Qi Yanwang expertly operated the coffee machine. “Just keeping an eye on Huaimo, in case he gets tricked by someone with ulterior motives.”

    “Qi Yanwang!”

Zhuo Huaimo reached his limit. “Get out of here!”

    “Alright,”

Qi Yanwang leaned against the counter, holding his coffee. “But I have to remind Director Shao, you only have fifteen minutes.”

He glanced at his watch. “If you go over…”

    He smiled meaningfully…

Zhuo Huaimo trembled with anger. “Do you believe I’ll move out tomorrow?”

    “Move where?”

Qi Yanwang raised an eyebrow. “I’ve bought all the villas around here.”

Shao Fan finally couldn’t hold back. “President Qi, isn’t this going too far?”

    “Too far?”

Qi Yanwang put down his coffee cup. “Compared to some people using emotions to get investment, I think I’m being quite restrained.”

He looked at Zhuo Huaimo and pointed to his watch.

    “Fifteen minutes, starting now.”

After Qi Yanwang left, Shao Fan finally sighed in relief.

“Huaimo, I didn’t want to worry you… I really didn’t expect you to go to Jason for me!”

“You’re afraid I went to Jason? Are you afraid he’ll tell me the truth?”

Zhuo Huaimo stared at him, trying to discern the truth from his subtle expressions.

Shao Fan smiled wryly. “The art film last year did lose money, but I didn’t inflate the box office. As for using emotions…”

He paused. “An investor did make advances towards me, but I refused. As a result, he spread rumors everywhere.”

“What about the withdrawal of investment?”

“That should be President Qi’s doing.”

Shao Fan looked across the room. “He showed the investor my dirt…”

Zhuo Huaimo didn’t know how to describe his current mood.

Qi Yanwang told his friend the truth. If it were someone else, if this matter didn’t involve Shao Fan, didn’t involve him, he probably could have been much calmer!

But, obviously, he couldn’t. This matter dragged all three of them into it.

Although Shao Fan’s behavior was inappropriate, such things were not uncommon in the industry. If it weren’t for him, Qi Yanwang would never have intervened.

Zhuo Huaimo looked at Shao Fan. “I’ll talk to him!”

He paused and continued, “Peter, I know you haven’t had it easy these past two years, but as a friend, I still have to say, reputation is really important in this industry. You…”

“Huaimo, I know what you want to say!”

He grabbed Zhuo Huaimo’s hand. “Believe me, I’m still the same person you knew before. This person, this heart, has never changed. I…”

This scene was seen by Qi Yanwang, who had come to check the time. An intent to kill showed in his cold eyes.

He pulled Zhuo Huaimo behind him.

    “Time’s up, you can leave!”

Zhuo Huaimo couldn’t take it anymore. “Are you sick in the head?”

    “Yeah,”

Qi Yanwang turned to look at him, frankly admitting, “Lovesickness.”

Then, turning his head to look at Shao Fan, he warned, “Do I need to say it a second time?”

Shao Fan stood up and looked at Zhuo Huaimo behind him.

“Huaimo, I’ll chat with you another day.”

“There’s no another day! I’m warning you, stay away from him!”

Zhuo Huaimo tried to shake off Qi Yanwang’s hand, but he had never won in terms of force, otherwise he wouldn’t have…

    He could only warn,

“Qi Yanwang, don’t go too far, he’s my friend!”

    “I’m your man!”

Zhuo Huaimo glared at him. “You have no right!”

Qi Yanwang was already agitated by the scene just now, and considering Zhuo Huaimo’s feelings, he had given Shao Fan plenty of face.

But now, provoked by Zhuo Huaimo’s words, he instantly lost his mind. In front of Shao Fan, he grabbed the back of his head and kissed him.

“Do I have the right now?”

    “Qi Yanwang!”

Shao Fan wanted to step forward to stop him, but was met with his cold stare.

Zhuo Huaimo pushed him away, wanting to end this farce quickly.

“Peter, I’m sorry, go back first!”

Shao Fan glared at Qi Yanwang, but was met with a provocative look.

He stepped forward and said in a low voice,

“This… will only push him further away!”

    “Is that so?”

Qi Yanwang chuckled. “That’s still better than someone using lies to deceive him.”

After Shao Fan left, the villa fell into silence.

Qi Yanwang stood in front of the French windows, smoking. The scarlet tip of the cigarette flickered in the twilight.

    “Are you satisfied?”

Zhuo Huaimo suddenly spoke. “Going crazy in front of him, does that make you feel accomplished?”

Qi Yanwang stubbed out the cigarette. “I’m going crazy? When he was holding your hand, saying his heart hadn’t changed, why didn’t you shake him off?”

    “That’s between him and me!”

“Now it’s between me and you!”

Qi Yanwang suddenly turned around, his aura menacing. “I’ve already given him the greatest courtesy!”

He grabbed Zhuo Huaimo’s wrist. “A man, watching the person he loves running around for another man to get investment, leaving you alone in a room, I’m fucking going crazy!”

Zhuo Huaimo shook off his wrist. “I didn’t ask you to go, you followed me!”

Qi Yanwang snorted coldly. “Yes, I followed you, I was being cheap! And the result?”

He looked at Zhuo Huaimo. “Accompanying you, hearing with my own ears that your perfect male god has a terrible reputation, is also a nice experience!”

    “Get out!”

Zhuo Huaimo pointed to the door, angrily yelling, “Don’t come to my house again!”

    “Leave?”

Qi Yanwang suddenly smiled. “If I leave, will that give him a chance to take advantage of the situation?”

“At least he hasn’t hurt me!” Zhuo Huaimo blurted out.

These words were like a knife, piercing Qi Yanwang’s heart.

He tried his best to steady himself. Although he had been rejected many times, Zhuo Huaimo’s mouth could always easily say things that stabbed him in the lungs.

He really didn’t want to talk about any grand principles with him, he just wanted to press that person under his body, shut his mouth, and do him until he begged for mercy!

Looking at Qi Yanwang’s dazed expression, Zhuo Huaimo’s heart also suddenly shrank.

Even after more than a year, Qi Yanwang, this man, could still easily affect his mood and mobilize his emotions.

With his appearance, his life was destined not to be peaceful again.

    Arguments and doubts would follow!

    “Let’s talk!”

This was the first time Zhuo Huaimo took the initiative, calmly saying these words.

Qi Yanwang looked at him as moonlight streamed in from the French windows.

Zhuo Huaimo stood in the moonlight, while he leaned against the counter, hidden in darkness.

A ray of moonlight was like a distinct dividing line, cutting the two apart.

Zhuo Huaimo’s cold voice was like the moonlight.

Qi Yanwang instantly felt his chest tighten, and he gripped the counter tightly.

“My life is very good now, very peaceful, and I enjoy it! You should understand very well that our breakup had nothing to do with anyone, and it’s the same now. Me and Shao Fan, or you, it’s all over! I let you down, you schemed against me, and from the breakup to now, it’s been over a year. For you, I’m not angry anymore, and I don’t love you anymore!”

Saying the words “don’t love” hurt both of them!

Zhuo Huaimo paused and continued, “If… you really still have a sliver of feeling for me, please… don’t come and disturb my life again!”

Qi Yanwang stood coldly in place. This conversation, clearly without arguments, without tension, without harsh words, was like knives, ruthlessly stabbing into his heart!

It hurt so much that he barely noticed when that person walked to the stairs.

Qi Yanwang wiped away tears and looked at Zhuo Huaimo’s figure.

The moonlight streamed through the French windows onto his body, making his shadow very long, like an insurmountable chasm.

    “I know I hurt you,”

Qi Yanwang suddenly spoke. “If I could, I’d be willing to trade everything to turn back time, to let everything start over.”

His voice choked up. “But since I can’t… I can only keep making up for it, keep working to numb myself, keep realizing your dreams. I only ask… I only ask that you can give me a chance, a chance to make amends!”

    Zhuo Huaimo stopped.

Qi Yanwang walked behind him. “Why…”

He reached out to touch Zhuo Huaimo’s shoulder, but retracted his hand at the last moment.

“You are tolerant and generous to everyone, you and him can break up unhappily, but why, can you be calm with Shao Fan, can you smile at him, allow him to stay by your side…”

His voice got lower and lower. “Why are you so hard-hearted towards me? I did something wrong, and you aren’t even willing to give me a chance to make amends!”

Zhuo Huaimo held the handrail, trembling.

He understood that Qi Yanwang had taken less time than he expected to list Xingyue on the stock market, and he could imagine the hardships behind that.

He also knew what he was doing it all for.

Zhuo Huaimo knew from the beginning that although he had deceived him, he had hated him, resented him, but the reason in his heart, he never had the courage to say it—

The reason why he insisted on breaking up back then, the root cause of this deception.

After going in circles, it was as if they had returned to the starting point.

Telling him, Zhuo Huaimo didn’t dare to gamble, nor was he willing to gamble. He really didn’t want to experience that feeling of putting hope in one person again, only to be disappointed.

If, he agreed, wouldn’t that mean that he would be carrying another life on his shoulders?

Unsolvable, this problem was always unsolvable, and would never have an answer!

“One last question!” Qi Yanwang said.

Zhuo Huaimo still didn’t turn around.

“Now, you don’t want to be with me, is it because of Shao Fan?”

    “No!”

    “Then it’s…”

Zhuo Huaimo took a deep breath, interrupted him, and said faintly,

    “Go back, I’m tired!”
