    Chapter 19: Then Let’s Go

Leaning on his shoulder, that faint, sweet fragrance began to linger around his nose again.

With force in his hand, he pulled Song Huaixi into his body, only in this way could the violence in his heart be relieved for a moment.

Sitting on Zhao Fangye’s lap and being held tightly, Song Huaixi was somewhat puzzled.

But he could feel that Zhao Fangye was unhappy.

So he wrapped his arms around his back and gently patted it: “Zhao Fangye… you have to be happy.”

In the shadows of the bookshelf, a tall man in black robes, blending into the darkness, nestled tightly in the arms of a young man in warm yellow brocade.

Song Huaixi’s bright brocade robe became the only warmth in the cold and solemn study.

    Afternoon.

Song Huaixi was writing in the study.

He wrote earnestly, the thick stack of paper beside him densely covered with Zhao Fangye’s name.

Although the handwriting was crooked, some progress could be seen.

“Why only write about this prince?” Standing behind him, Zhao Fangye’s gaze fell on the paper.

Song Huaixi took the best-looking character he had written and gave it to Zhao Fangye: “See if I wrote well?”

Zhao Fangye nodded, not wanting to discourage him: “Acceptable.”

Hearing this, Song Huaixi became happy, carefully folded the character that Zhao Fangye had praised, and put it away.

“I can write my own name, but I can’t write yours yet. I want to learn quickly.”

Hearing this, Zhao Fangye’s gaze turned to Song Huaixi. His eyes flickered slightly, and he pursed his lips without speaking.

In the morning, the Chancellor’s words were still ringing in his ears, like a life-threatening ghost constantly clamoring in his ears.

His gaze fell on that pure face, and Zhao Fangye’s hand hanging by his side clenched silently. A person who had always been alone and unattached suddenly felt an emotion called fear.

He seemed to have a weakness…

Zhao Fangye was confined for a month, so he spent more time at the mansion.

Recently, they had been eating and sleeping together almost all the time, and what Song Huaixi did every day was to pester Zhao Fangye.

Whatever he did, Song Huaixi did.

The weather turned cold, and the cold wind howled outside the window. Zhang Wenwen brought a pot of ginger and jujube tea and placed it on the small table.

Song Huaixi nestled on the soft couch, wrapped himself in fox fur, and lay there reading picture books.

“Your Grace, why didn’t you go to the study today?” Zhang Wenwen asked as she handed him the ginger and jujube tea.

Putting down the book, he took a sip of the light yellow tea. It was a little sweet and a little spicy. The taste was strange.

He put it aside and didn’t drink it, sighing: “Writing every day is so boring, and the study is cold, my hands hurt from the cold.”

Zhang Wenwen smiled, Song Huaixi could bring a lot of joy when he was at home. But at the Ning Wang Mansion, he had no playmates and no place to play. All that was left to him was to find Zhao Fangye and read picture books.

Knowing that he was bored, Zhang Wenwen comforted him: “The New Year is coming soon, it will be lively soon.”

Turning his head, Song Huaixi thought for a moment and said: “But when I was at home, this time was already very lively. But the Wang Mansion doesn’t seem to be preparing anything.”

That was indeed the case, even in ordinary people’s homes, preparations for the New Year would begin after the eighth day of the lunar month.

But the Wang Mansion was still cold and quiet, without the slightest hint of New Year’s joy.

    This was strange.

During dinner, Song Huaixi picked up food for Zhao Fangye. Suddenly, he said: “Zhao Fangye, the New Year is coming. Let’s go buy New Year’s goods together!”

Zhang Wenwen’s movements, who was serving nearby, paused, and she quickly looked at Zhao Fangye’s expression. He had been confined to the Wang Mansion because of Song Huaixi.

How could he leave the mansion without permission, especially to accompany Song Huaixi to buy New Year’s goods?

Zhang Wenwen was afraid that Zhao Fangye would be unhappy, so she quickly winked at Song Huaixi.

“Your Grace… these small things can be left to Wang Bo. There’s no need to trouble you and the Prince…”

    “Oh.”

Song Huaixi’s eyebrows drooped, his tone full of anticipation: “But I want to go, there must be a lot of fun things on the street. I’ve never seen them before…”

When he was in the Song Mansion before, he rarely left the mansion, only during the New Year and holidays could he go out with his older brother and sister-in-law.

Disappointed, he poked at the rice in his bowl, Song Huaixi suddenly felt that the food in front of him was no longer fragrant.

Putting the food that he had picked for him into his mouth, Zhao Fangye glanced at him, his expression unchanged: “If you want to go, have Wang Bo and Deputy General Sun accompany you.”

    “Really?”

Hearing that he could go out to play, that fair and beautiful face was replaced with a joyful expression. The performance was comparable to a face-changing actor.

As if thinking of something, Song Huaixi got up and ran to him: “Aren’t you going?”

Zhao Fangye shook his head, he had always had low material desires and had no interest in these things. Only Song Huaixi was young and always wanted to play, seeking novelty.

Rejected, Song Huaixi felt a little regretful.

He watched Zhao Fangye every day, besides eating and sleeping, he was either practicing swordsmanship or staying in the study.

    So boring, really boring.

There were so many fun, delicious, and beautiful things outside, he really wanted to go with Zhao Fangye.

Pulling his sleeve, Song Huaixi softened his voice and coquettishly said: “Please go, it’s really fun. We can pick out New Year’s goods together.”

Zhang Wenwen and Chun Hua and Zhao Lu, who were standing beside him serving, just watched Song Huaixi act coquettishly towards Zhao Fangye. Everyone silently sweated for his behavior.

Chun Hua and Zhao Lu knew that Zhao Fangye didn’t like going out, and was indifferent at heart. Few people could disrupt his pace of life.

And Zhang Wenwen was worried that Song Huaixi’s unreasonable behavior would make Zhao Fangye dislike him.

His hand holding the bowl began to sway because he was being pulled, and Zhao Fangye helplessly put down the bowl and chopsticks in his hand.

His light-colored eyes stared at Song Huaixi, who was acting coquettishly towards him.

His dark eyes were bright and shining as he looked at himself, his eyes full of longing. It was as if if he refused, those dark eyes would immediately be filled with tears.

His tone was as calm as water: “You want this prince to go that much? Why?”

Song Huaixi found that Zhao Fangye always liked to ask him why. Why? There were not so many whys. He just wanted to go with Zhao Fangye.

    There was no why.

Liking was entirely based on instinct.

His eyeballs rolled, and Song Huaixi said with a smile: “It’s just, I want to take you to play together. You’re so boring every day.”

After looking at him for a while, Zhao Fangye shifted his gaze. His expression was indifferent: “Then let’s go.”

The New Year had always been an dispensable day for Zhao Fangye, nothing special. He never cared, on the day when families were reunited, he was the only one alone.

But now, something seemed to be different.

As soon as he finished speaking, everyone in the house was stunned for a moment. Zhao Fangye was still under house arrest, but he would actually agree to Song Huaixi’s request to accompany him to play in the streets.

Apart from Song Huaixi, who was so happy that he was dancing, everyone else’s eyes were filled with doubt.

Upon receiving the news, Wang Bo, who was preparing the carriages for tomorrow’s trip, had a smile on his face.

This made Deputy General Sun, who was next to him, dumbfounded. What had made this old man so happy?

“Wang Bo, what are you smiling about?” Reaching out and adding a handful of fodder to the horse, Deputy General Sun continued to mutter.

“The Prince is still under house arrest? Is it really okay to leave the mansion without permission? And the Prince has never been interested in shopping before, how did he suddenly want to buy New Year’s goods?”

Patting the horse, Wang Bo let out a long sigh: “Silly boy, what do you know? This is a good thing.”

“A good thing?” He was confused by what he said.

What was good about it? The Emperor would have another excuse to deal with his Prince.

“Silly boy, even if I told you, you wouldn’t understand. It’s a good thing for the Prince. Thanks to Your Grace, he’s really a little lucky star.”

As he said this, he walked out with his hands behind his back, leaving Deputy General Sun in the wind, messed up and confused.

    What was good about it?
