    Chapter 14 The Admission Notice

Recently, I’ve been so busy that I almost forgot about the admission notice. I filled in the home address back then, so the notice should be sent home.

Yesterday, when I talked to my mom on the phone, she didn’t mention it, so I guess they haven’t received it yet.

“It should be these few days…” Thinking about going home to face his dad, Yu Zhanrong’s expression became awkward, and he poked the meat on his plate, losing his appetite.

Before leaving home, he boasted that he would make Old Yu wait and see, but he still doesn’t have anything to show him. The previous bold words seem especially unconvincing in reality.

“What’s wrong? Afraid to go home?”

“No,” Yu Zhanrong said, “It’s just that when the admission notice arrives, my dad will probably get angry again.”

After speaking, he subconsciously looked at Song Baiyan, whose expression didn’t change at all, as if he had expected it.

Yu Zhanrong wrinkled his nose and lowered his eyelids, muttering, “I’ll go back when the admission notice comes.”

The little junior brother instantly got emo, and Song Baiyan raised his hand to ruffle the hair on his forehead: “Nothing can be accomplished overnight. You’re still young and need time to accumulate. It’s not shameful to have no results now.”

Who exactly is spreading the rumor on Hua University’s forum that Song Baiyan is aloof? Is there any truth in that?

Yu Zhanrong wanted to grab a handful of cotton and stuff it into that person’s brain, so that this person who talks nonsense could rewrite Song Baiyan’s profile. How dare they write “aloof” when he’s this gentle?

He wasn’t afraid of going home, just didn’t know how to face Old Yu, but compared to going home, the upcoming military training was even more terrifying.

Thinking of military training, he didn’t even have the appetite to drink his milk tea: “Senior brother, is Hua University’s military training on campus? Are the instructors fierce? Is it easy to get leave?”

“It hasn’t even started yet, and you’re already thinking about asking for leave?”

Seeing him frowning, seemingly having a strange resistance to military training, he comforted him: “Military training is actually okay, it’s just a bit hot. There are also evening activities, which are quite interesting.”

“Can I only participate in the evening activities?” Yu Zhanrong poked the skewers on his plate with chopsticks.

He didn’t want to participate in military training, he really couldn’t handle it at all. Someone who gets out of breath after running 300 meters, and military training? That’s almost like dying.

    “So afraid of military training?”

Yu Zhanrong choked, feeling a bit embarrassed to say that he was afraid of military training. A man’s face can’t be lost, so he said, “I’m not afraid, I just don’t want to participate.”

Song Baiyan looked at his expression, remembering that he had never seen him exercise since they met. Aren’t boys at this age supposed to be full of energy?

Thinking of this, Song Baiyan tentatively asked him, “Do you want to go for a morning run with me in the future?”

“Huh?” The topic jumped too fast, Yu Zhanrong was stunned for a moment, and after being controlled by the words “morning run” for a few seconds, he decisively shook his head and said firmly, “No running.”

    He can’t run at all.

Song Baiyan understood. This guy isn’t afraid of military training at all, he’s afraid of exercise. He’s a homebody and a picky eater.

No wonder he’s so thin, all bones. So he said, “The instructors aren’t fierce, just stricter. You can’t ask for leave casually during military training without a good reason.”

Yu Zhanrong curled his lips and muttered softly, “What’s the difference… Strict isn’t just fierce?”

He really doesn’t have any athletic cells. What if he faints on the military training ground and is carried away? Wouldn’t that be embarrassing?

He couldn’t help but mutter to himself. Not two days later, Yu Zhanrong received a call from his mother, telling him that the admission notice had been delivered home.

She also gave a heads-up that since seeing the admission notice, his dad had been wearing a dark face, telling him to be careful when he went home.

In order to avoid a head-on confrontation with Yu Sheng, Yu Zhanrong deliberately chose a time when the old man wouldn’t be home.

He planned to take the admission notice and leave, and see if he could sneak out his guitar, so he could have more talent to show during the live stream.

When he got home, no one was there, but whether it was guilt or some other psychology, Yu Zhanrong hunched over like a thief, rummaging through the coffee table.

He searched up and down, through all the drawers, but couldn’t find the admission notice.

Didn’t Ms. Zhan say it was on the coffee table? How come it’s not there?

Yu Zhanrong searched carefully again for a long time, but couldn’t even find a shadow of the admission notice.

Helpless, Yu Zhanrong sat on the sofa and called Ms. Zhan, telling her about the situation.

“Did you look carefully? I specifically put it on the coffee table when I left.”

“It’s really not there. I’ve looked several times. Mom, could you be mistaken?”

“Impossible, I’m very sure.” Zhan Yue thought for a while and then said, “Then look at the table behind the sofa. Maybe your dad moved it.”

    The table behind the sofa?

Yu Zhanrong turned on the speakerphone and put it on the sofa, turning around to rummage through the cabinets. As he was rummaging, suddenly a shadow loomed over his head.

He stiffly looked up, and saw a familiar figure standing on the second floor, holding a document that looked like the admission notice. When he looked over, he even shook it. Yu Zhanrong couldn’t help but gasp.

Didn’t they say Old Yu had an appointment to talk business? Who is that man upstairs who looks exactly like Old Yu?

Father and son, one upstairs and one downstairs, looked at each other from afar.

“Rongrong, did you find it? Your dad will pick up that admission notice and look at it every now and then. I don’t know how many times he’s looked at it. Let me tell you, your dad…”

At this moment, in the quiet living room, only Ms. Zhan’s voice was amplified through the speaker.

    “Dad!”

Yu Zhanrong saw the person on the second floor’s face getting darker and quickly spoke to remind her, for fear that Ms. Zhan would reveal the old man’s shortcomings and make him fly into a rage.

Hearing her son’s warning, Ms. Zhan’s hand that was touching mahjong froze for a moment, and she hung up the phone quickly and decisively.

    “Beep—”

Yu Zhanrong was dumbfounded. There was no need to be so decisive, just change the subject.

“Zhan Yue, is that your son?”

“Yes, yes.” Zhan Yue smiled and knocked down her tiles, “Self-draw!”

“He’s arguing with his dad, and he’s sneaking back home to get his admission notice while his dad isn’t home.”

The lady opposite her heard this and laughed, “Didn’t you say earlier that Old Yu was home? Are you two working together to tease Rongrong? Be careful he gets angry.”

Zhan Yue didn’t care, “I didn’t participate. Those two fathers and sons have a lot of lawsuits, leave them alone, let’s continue.”

The father and son with a lot of lawsuits, one in the living room and one on the second floor, looked at each other, neither wanting to take the first step.

Until the old fox seemed to be getting hot, and waved the document bag in his hand to fan himself.

“Damn it!” Yu Zhanrong suddenly realized that the thing the old man was using to fan himself was his admission notice.

    “That’s my admission notice!”

The old man had no guilt at all, gave a faint “Oh,” looked at the thing in his hand, and continued to fan himself.

Seeing his little cub jumping in anger, the sullenness in his heart caused by his unreliable wife’s short-sightedness dissipated for the most part, and even his complexion eased a lot.

Yu Zhanrong didn’t dare to say that he had mastered the art of observing people’s expressions, but he was good enough at it with his own dad.

His tense shoulders relaxed slightly, and he deliberately said angrily, “Old Yu Comrade, taking without the consent of others is considered stealing.”

Yu Sheng had been in the business world for many years and had experienced many battles. How could he be angered by this little trick?

He narrowed his sharp eyes and said calmly, “Sneaking into another person’s house without the owner’s permission is considered trespassing. Little Yu, what do you think?”

Yu Zhanrong choked, what do I think? I think you’re senile.

He stubbornly stuck out his neck and shouted, “This is my home! I didn’t sneak in, I’m here openly!”

Yu Sheng strolled down the stairs like he was taking a walk, leisurely poured himself a glass of water, and also poured a glass for the little cub who was red in the neck.

“Come, drink some water to calm down. Young people shouldn’t be so angry. The property certificate is in my name, you have to admit that.”

    Yu Zhanrong: “…”

He didn’t feel anything at first, but when he saw the water, he was indeed a little thirsty. He sat down opposite him to drink water, but his eyes never left the old man opposite him, always feeling that this old man was up to no good.

    “You’re my dad.”

Yu Sheng nodded, that’s right: “I’m your old man, but the property owner of this house is me, it’s not time for you to inherit it yet.”

    Yu Zhanrong: “…”

How does that sound a little weird?

Yu Zhanrong refused to admit defeat: “But this is also marital property, and my mom has half of it. If you divorce, I’ll go with my mom.”
