    Chapter 99: Jealousy

As the semester neared its end, everyone’s biggest wish was to successfully pass the final exams. Yu Zhanrong was being held captive by Song Baiyan for revision, and even his livestreams were suspended.

The library was so crowded that it was impossible to find a seat. The former president had no special privileges, so he brought someone back to his apartment to sit side-by-side with Guan Yanzhi and study together.

When Guan Yanzhi turned her head to look at him for the thirteenth time, Yu Zhanrong finally couldn’t help but stop the pen twirling in his fingers and looked over. “What do you want to ask? Ask quickly, or you’ll miss your chance.”

Guan Yanzhi had her exam paper pressed under her elbow. Hearing this, she leaned over, her face flushed, and whispered, “Um, Yu Bao, you and my brother—”

“Kids shouldn’t pry into adult matters!” Before she could finish, Yu Zhanrong knew it wasn’t a good question. Without allowing her to explain, he pressed her head and made her turn back. He tapped her exam paper with his finger: “Do your homework.”

    “I just want to ask.”

    “Don’t ask, do the questions.”

    “I—”

    “Hurry up and write.”

Guan Yanzhi pouted and wanted to struggle a bit, but Yu Zhanrong glared her back.

She slammed the exam paper down, but didn’t get any sympathy from Yu Zhanrong, and instead attracted the stricter one.

Song Baiyan stood beside them like a head teacher. Guan Yanzhi immediately became obedient, silently burying herself in her work.

The head teacher patrolled around and stopped beside Yu Zhanrong. Yu Zhanrong lowered his eyes to read, his gaze uncontrollably drifting to the side.

He blinked quickly, and his cool fingers hooked around a warm, large hand, propping up his chin and smiling silently at Song Baiyan.

The fingers that slipped into his palm had hooks, making Song Baiyan’s heart tingle. He coughed lightly, clenching a fist against his lips.

Hearing this, the little girl next to him instantly straightened her back and wrote honestly.

Guan Yanzhi had bad habits when doing homework. As she wrote, she would unconsciously slump onto the desk, her eyes almost glued to the workbook. Song Baiyan and Yu Zhanrong often took turns supervising her.

Normally, Guan Yanzhi would be a little more careful, but today she was in a bad mood, and her head would unconsciously droop. Song Baiyan’s cough was a conditioned response, and she would sit up straight.

Yu Zhanrong wanted to laugh, so he coughed as well, and Guan Yanzhi raised her head again.

With repeated reminders, Guan Yanzhi became impatient, frowning unhappily.

The unscrupulous brothers seemed oblivious, happily playing along, one cough after another.

“Pa-thump!” Guan Yanzhi dropped her pen and slapped the paper. “Stop coughing! I’m already sitting very straight, and my eyes are almost a meter away from the table.”

She turned her head angrily, only to find her brothers smiling at her, as if they were teasing her, which made her even angrier.

To appease her, Yu Zhanrong took out his phone and handed it to her: “Want a milk tea?”

“I don’t want it.” Guan Yanzhi pushed it away without mercy. Thinking she could be coaxed with a cup of milk tea? Dream on!

Yu Zhanrong shrugged and looked at Song Baiyan. Song Baiyan gave him a “wait a moment” look.

“When were we going to Nan City again? I’ve forgotten.”

Yu Zhanrong understood and glanced at Guan Yanzhi, who had already perked up her ears, and secretly gave a thumbs up under the table.

“It seems like January 19th, I think it was the second day of Zhi Zhi’s vacation? I’ve kind of forgotten, let me check.” Saying that, he went to the bedroom and came out a moment later saying, “That’s right, it’s January 19th.”

The two sang in harmony, making Guan Yanzhi stunned, and even forgetting to be angry, her mind thinking about how to go with them.

She also wanted to go to Nan City to play, and it was right after she finished her final exams.

Her doe eyes darted around, and her elbow crept closer and closer. “Yu Bao, I don’t want milk tea, can I have something else?”

    Yu Zhanrong smiled inwardly. “What?”

Guan Yanzhi pointed to the tickets in his hand. “Take me with you.”

Waving the slip of paper between his fingers, Yu Zhanrong looked embarrassed: “There are only two tickets, there won’t be enough if we take you.”

At this moment, Guan Yanzhi’s brain was working fast. She grabbed Yu Zhanrong. “Brother doesn’t like watching this, he’ll stay at home. How about the two of us go?”

Yu Zhanrong looked at Guan Yanzhi’s eager gaze, then raised his eyes to look at Song Baiyan and refused, “That won’t work, your brother got these tickets.”

The implication was that without him, I wouldn’t be able to go either.

    Crap.

She had accidentally offended the real boss. Guan Yanzhi thought for a moment and looked at Song Baiyan flatteringly, a smile on her face that was almost fawning: “Brother.”

    She received an emotionless snort.

    She persevered.

This time, she learned her lesson. She glanced at Yu Zhanrong, and then said pitifully to Song Baiyan, “Brother, are you willing to reject your only sister in front of your wife?”

She deliberately emphasized the words “your wife,” and a smile curled on Song Baiyan’s lips. He bent his index finger and scratched Yu Zhanrong’s face: “Wife, what do you say?”

“Ew~” Guan Yanzhi cleverly covered her eyes.

Yu Zhanrong slapped his hand away in embarrassment: “Neither of you are going!” Then he turned around and took the tickets into the bedroom.

Guan Yanzhi tugged at Song Baiyan’s clothes, her eyes darting towards the bedroom: “Quickly coax him, what are you waiting for?”

Song Baiyan flicked her forehead. “Why are you such a busybody?”

Guan Yanzhi showed her brother her eye-rolling skills.

    *

The winter wind couldn’t stop the students eager to return home. People dragging suitcases and walking in groups of two or three could be seen everywhere on campus.

With the submission of the last subject’s exam paper, Yu Zhanrong also finished all the exams for this semester.

Yang You came out of the examination room with him, called out, and ran towards the dormitory. Yang You was not from Hua City, and his family was personally driving to pick him up, and were said to be waiting at the school gate.

Yu Zhanrong took out his phone and looked at it. His family’s driver was also waiting at the school gate. Having not been home for a long time, he suddenly felt a sense of longing to return home.

Before he could even put down his bag after entering the door, someone pinched his face. Zhan Yue seemed to have discovered a new world: “Yu Sheng, come and see, your son has gained weight.”

    “…”

Why did he have to be subjected to this kind of stimulation as soon as he got home?

Yu Sheng walked over unhurriedly, hands behind his back like an old grandpa: “Well, he has gained a little weight indeed.”

Yu Zhanrong shook his head to avoid his mother’s hand, rubbed his face and muttered, “You’re hurting me, can’t you be gentler?”

He changed his shoes and prepared to go in, but was blocked in the hallway by the old couple. The two of them looked behind him in unison, especially Old Yu, who seemed to be waiting for his other son.

    “Don’t look, it’s just me.”

Yu Sheng retracted his gaze and glanced at Yu Zhanrong. The little brat seemed to have gotten a little stronger, and didn’t look so paper-thin anymore.

“Didn’t I tell you to bring someone back? What’s the point of coming back alone?” Not seeing the person he wanted to see, Yu Sheng shuffled back to the living room in his slippers.

Yu Zhanrong was confused by this development. He turned to Zhan Yue to ask for clarification: “What’s wrong with my dad?”

Acceptance was one thing, but what was with this eagerness? Anyone who didn’t know better would think Song Baiyan was his biological son.

Zhan Yue pursed her lips and smiled, whispering, “Your dad was happy for days when he heard you were planning to apply for a double degree.”

“Then why is he so eager to see my senior brother? I’m the one applying for the double degree, right?”

Zhan Yue touched his head and said with a smile, “Why, are you jealous?”

    “I’m not.”

“Isn’t it because you kept talking about it in your livestreams, how your senior brother was urging you to do this and that? Your dad couldn’t have been happier.”

Yu Zhanrong paused, glanced at the old man pretending to read on the sofa, and muttered, “Is he that free? Watching my livestreams all day.”

He was hit on the back of the head. Yu Zhanrong rubbed his head and took out his phone to send several messages to Song Baiyan. Without waiting for a reply, he locked the screen and put it in his pocket.
