Chapter 5 Night Market, Hitting, But Not With You.
This opening exam came somewhat unexpectedly, and the difficulty of the test papers was even more surprising. Sure enough, you can’t always believe what the homeroom teacher says.
Other subjects were easy for Xu Jing, except for English.
The speed of the listening comprehension was much faster than in junior high school, and a large portion of the vocabulary was new. Not only Xu Jing, but everyone else felt like they were writing in a fog.
Liang Yin suppressed the slight restlessness with a light cough. Xu Jing flipped through a few reading comprehension passages, too lazy to struggle, and just randomly filled in the answers.
Five minutes later, just as he was about to turn the page to write the composition, he heard a very faint snicker next to his ear.
Xu Jing glanced out of the corner of his eye and found that it was that person again.
Amidst the sighs, this person’s calmness was particularly striking. If it weren’t for that laugh just now, he might not have known who was sitting next to him until the end of the exam.
Xu Jing was too lazy to bother, and went to sleep after finishing the composition.
Except for sports and art students, the students who can get into Linhe No.1 High School must have been at the top of their class before. Although they say they don’t care, when it really comes down to it, no one would just start sleeping like Xu Jing.
Liang Yin heard the noise and looked up, but didn’t come down to stop him.
An hour later, the exam finally ended. Liang Yin asked the students in the last row to collect the papers, and wrote the schedule for today on the blackboard.
Everyone scattered as soon as it was time for lunch. Xu Jing was in no hurry and left the classroom last.
He ran into Cha Fei’ang, who had gone to the supermarket, in the middle.
Cha Fei’ang was deeply impressed by Xu Jing, and immediately went up to greet him, “Dude, you’re really brave to just sleep. Did you stay up all night playing games last night?”
Xu Jing glanced at Cha Fei’ang, too lazy to argue, and simply hummed.
Cha Fei’ang immediately got excited, “Do you play LOL? What rank are you? Let’s play together when we get back.”
“Bronze.” Two seconds later, Xu Jing added, “Haven’t reached level six.”
Cha Fei’ang: “…”
At this moment, someone happened to walk past them. The school hasn’t distributed uniforms yet, and Shen Yan was just wearing a simple black T-shirt, but he was broad-shouldered, stood up straight, and exuded a strong sense of power in his gestures, which was extremely eye-catching.
The two of them unfortunately met eyes.
Xu Jing frowned subconsciously.
He clearly has a pair of gentle peach blossom eyes, but there is an indescribable sharpness between his eyebrows.
He’s just annoying to look at.
Cha Fei’ang pondered Xu Jing’s indifferent expression and asked curiously, “Do you have a conflict with him?”
Xu Jing looked at Cha Fei’ang, “What do you think?”
“I saw you were going to sit next to him when I registered, but you turned back.”
Xu Jing didn’t expect this person to be so big and clumsy, but he actually remembered this.
After a while, Cha Fei’ang heard the person next to him say stiffly, “The air over there isn’t good.”
Cha Fei’ang choked.
Is that… so?
Because it was the beginning of the semester, the overall atmosphere in the class was rather dull. Looking at the densely packed main subjects on the schedule, even Cha Fei’ang slumped listlessly in his seat.
Zhou Ji was still diligently burying himself in math tutoring materials. Linhe No.1 High School is indeed not short of diligent students, but it’s really hard to find a few people like Zhou Ji who seize every minute and second, even taking a small notebook to the bathroom to read.
There are still five minutes before class. A girl with short hair was just about to go out to get water when she was stopped by the teacher who walked in from outside the door.
“Wait a minute, yes, you.”
Hearing this, everyone’s eyes turned to the door. The teacher who came was wearing a gray shirt, with a slightly bent back and graying temples. He looked old. He put the old-fashioned teacup on the podium and handed the stack of test papers in his hand to the girl who was already stunned in place, and said, “Help me pass these out.”
Lu Hui: “…”
Everyone watched the girl put down her thermos cup and take the test papers with a puzzled expression. At this time, not only her, but everyone else couldn’t understand it either.
“By the way, what’s your name?” Zhou Yan only remembered to ask after the test papers were passed out.
Lu Hui was not tall and had shoulder-length short hair. Facing so many gazes, she timidly reported her name.
“Okay, from today onwards, you will be my class representative.” Looking at the doubtful faces under the stage, Zhou Yan was already used to it. He took a sip of tea and began to explain, “My classes are different from other teachers. I won’t give you extracurricular homework, because I will set aside time for you to complete the assignments I give in class.”
The class breathed a sigh of relief.
“But one thing, as long as it’s my class, if there are no special circumstances, you must sit down in the first five minutes, whether you’re previewing or doing problems, you just can’t wander around doing nothing.”
After hearing this, Lu Hui silently put the water cup on the table into her bag.
“Five minutes early?? It takes three minutes to go back and forth to the bathroom.”
“This teacher is crazy.”
Whispers immediately started below.
But no matter how unwilling they were, the rules were set, and no one could change them. Moreover, the fact that there was no extracurricular homework made this matter seem not so bad.
But in reality, they were happy too early. Zhou Yan’s teaching speed was unimaginably fast. He only used one-third of the 45-minute class to finish the first section. Some people barely finished reading the first two knowledge points, but in the blink of an eye, he was already talking about the final formula.
Moreover, Zhou Yan doesn’t use PPTs in class, it’s purely blackboard writing, but the blackboard writing isn’t good either, it’s small and dense. After one class, the whole class complained.
Cha Fei’ang covered his face with the book and howled to the sky, “Damn, can’t he leave even half an hour for us? What did he even teach in this class?”
“I think this teacher is quite cute, he just teaches too fast. I still have a lot of knowledge points that I don’t understand.” Zhou Ji replied while writing furiously.
“Didn’t you preview?”
“There are still some contents that I can’t quite understand. I’m not very good at math, and it takes me a long time to fully grasp it.”
Cha Fei’ang looked at the dense words in Zhou Ji’s notebook and shrank his head back with a whoosh.
“By the way, Xu Jing, I don’t see you taking many notes. Do you need to take a look at mine?” Zhou Ji smiled kindly and pushed the blue notebook the size of an A4 paper over.
Xu Jing paused the hand that was spinning the pen, “No need.”
A few moments of embarrassment flashed across Zhou Ji’s face, “Okay.”
“Thank you.”
Hearing this, Zhou Ji quickly waved his hand, “It’s nothing, it’s nothing.”
The dismissal time at Linhe No.1 High School is notoriously late, so very few people choose to live at home. When Xu Jing left the school gate, there were only a few stalls selling late-night snacks left. To avoid running into that person again, he ran as soon as class was over this time.
This time the stall had shrimp balls that Qin Xin liked to eat, and Xu Jing hesitated for a while before stopping.
He chose the cleanest stall, the ingredients were displayed very fresh, and they were still emitting cold air, obviously just taken out of the freezer behind. The owner was a middle-aged man, dressed casually, and looked very approachable.
“Hello, what would you like to order?”
Xu Jing pointed to the shrimp balls in the plastic wrap and said, “All of these.”
“Can you eat spicy food?”
Xu Jing shook his head.
“You’re a student at Linhe No.1 High School, right? I’ve been setting up a stall here for more than ten years. Your school’s dismissal time has really been getting later and later in recent years.”
Xu Jing thought he was complaining that the number of customers had decreased as a result, but then he heard the other party say, “Children are also working hard studying these days.”
“Boss, one serving of cold noodles, extra spicy.”
Xu Jing was about to reply when he stiffened when he heard the voice.
Shen Yan is a bit taller than Xu Jing. Every time he meets this person face-to-face, Xu Jing feels discriminated against, so at this moment he pretended not to hear and didn’t want to turn his head.
The owner didn’t expect to have such business so late, and his round face was full of smiles, “Okay, you guys sit there and wait for a while.”
“Okay.”
“No need.”
Owner: “…”
Summer nights always have a different kind of artistic conception, with cicadas chirping, and the sizzling sound of butter on the grill in your ears. Xu Jing glanced at Shen Yan sitting next to him and found that this person was staring at somewhere intently. His serious look made Xu Jing couldn’t help but be a little curious. As a result, following his gaze, he found that it was actually ants moving.
“…”
Extremely boring.
The owner put the grilled food into a plastic box and carefully tied a beautiful bow on it.
“Yours are ready.”
Xu Jing paid the bill and turned to leave. Shen Yan gave one hundred directly, “Keep the change.”
“Hey, you—”
The owner just wanted to stop Shen Yan, but he disappeared in the blink of an eye. The money in his hand was inexplicably hot, and the owner couldn’t help but sigh, “Being rich is just capricious.”
The street near Linhe No.1 High School is very long and wide, with a flowering crabapple tree planted every ten meters, but you can’t see the crabapple flowers at night, and you can’t smell their fragrance. Only hearing occupied most of the five senses.
So the footsteps behind him were very clear in the dark.
Xu Jing walked slowly with the light on.
Shen Yan came up from behind and asked as they walked side by side, “Playing games tonight?”
A cleanliness freak like Xu Jing, who has an abnormally sensitive sense of smell, actually hates close contact with strangers. The so-called comfortable distance is greatly reduced for him, but Shen Yan smells very good, with a kind of aquatic fragrance after the rain, fresh and clean. Xu Jing allowed a stranger to get this close to him for the first time.
But the words he said were still unpleasant.
“None of your business.”
Xu Jing is fair-skinned and handsome, and his hair is soft. Coupled with his slender figure, he should be easy to get along with, but he has an indifferent expression to everyone, and he never leaves any face when he speaks. Sometimes he can make Yan Zhe jump up and down in anger.
But Shen Yan just raised his eyebrows after hearing this and said, “English is self-study tomorrow morning, don’t play too late, bronze player.” Then he walked past him.
Xu Jing: “…”
None of his business.
