That Nameless Summer Chapter 13
byhoney water
It’s clear after the snow, and the sun shines slantingly through the classroom windows, casting long spots of light on the desks. The melted snow dripped down the eaves, and the “tick-tock” sound regularly hit the window edge, mixing with the sound of the head teacher’s lecture on the podium, becoming a unique background sound in the classroom.
Song Li and Ling Qingye sat side by side with their textbooks spread out on the table.Song Li stayed up late last night to catch up on the two physics finale questions. At the moment, his eyelids were a little heavy. Listening to the class teacher’s boring knowledge points, his head moved unconsciously, like a cat about to fall asleep. He forced his eyes wide open and scribbled on the textbook with his fingertips, trying to concentrate, but he couldn’t help but yawn.
Ling Qingye caught a glimpse of his appearance from the corner of his eye, quietly raised his elbow and bumped his arm lightly. The force was not heavy, but it was enough to make Song Li wake up instantly.Song Li sat upright suddenly and subconsciously looked at the podium. Chen Youzheng lowered his head and turned over the lesson plan, not noticing his distraction just now.He breathed a sigh of relief and glanced sideways at Ling Qingye, with a bit of embarrassment about being caught in his eyes.
Ling Qingye didn’t look at him, but stretched out his hand to pull the textbook in front of Song Li towards him, and tapped lightly on a certain line of text with his fingertips.Song Li looked in the direction he was pointing. It was the focus of the class teacher’s explanation at the moment. He quickly picked up the pen and quickly wrote it down in his notebook. The rustling sound of the pen tip scratching the page was particularly clear in the quiet classroom.
After class, Song Li lay on the table, rubbed his eyes, and said in a vague tone as if he had not woken up: “Thank you, I almost got caught by my old classmate.”
“Did you stay up late again last night?” Ling Qingye’s voice was very soft, with a hint of imperceptible blame.
“Yes.” Song Li raised his head, there was still a faint red bloodshot in his eyes.
Ling Qingye didn’t say anything, he just took out a thermos cup from the table, unscrewed the lid and handed it to him. There was warm honey water in the cup, and the sweet smell wafted out, just enough to dispel the sleepiness.”Drink some of this to cheer you up.”
Song Li took the cup and took a big sip. The warmth slid down his throat, and his whole body felt much more comfortable.”When did you bring the honey water?” he asked curiously.
“I brought it from home this morning.” Ling Qingye said lightly, “You always stay up late, so drink some of this.”
Song Li’s heart warmed, and he looked down at the honey water in the cup. The water surface had a faint sheen, as if there was an unspoken understanding between the two at this moment. He didn’t ask any more questions, and just drank in small sips, with the corners of his mouth slightly raised unconsciously.
In the afternoon physical education class, because there was still some snow on the playground, the teacher asked everyone to move around freely indoors.Song Li and several boys got together to play table tennis. Ling Qingye did not participate. He just sat on the bench on the sidelines, holding a book in his hand, but his eyes drifted in Song Li’s direction from time to time.
Song Li is particularly dedicated to playing basketball.
He took a step back, not noticing the chair behind him and about to bump into it.Ling Qingye put down the book, stood up almost immediately, and walked over quickly. Before Song Li hit the chair, he reached out to hold his back and pulled him steadily to the side.
“Be careful.” Ling Qingye’s voice sounded in his ears, with a hint of unnoticeable nervousness.
Song Li was startled, and when he looked back and saw Ling Qingye, he realized that he had almost hit the chair. He patted his chest and said with a bit of fear in his tone: “Thanks, I was too absorbed in it just now and didn’t pay attention.”
“Don’t be too reckless when playing basketball.” Ling Qingye let go of his hand, and the warmth of Song Li’s back seemed to still be on his fingertips. He gently clenched his fist to hide the throbbing in his heart, turned back to the bench and sat down, but did not open the book in his hand again, his eyes still fell on Song Li.
Song Li returned to the table, but he lost his previous concentration.Occasionally he would look up at Ling Qingye on the sidelines, who would always appear in time when he needed it, resolving embarrassment and danger for him. This feeling of being silently guarded by someone made his heart warm, as if something was quietly sprouting.
After the physical education class, the two walked to the classroom together. The setting sun stretched the shadows of the two people very long, and they fell side by side on the ground, close to each other.
“Ling Qingye,” Song Li suddenly said, “You always seem to know what I want to do.”
Ling Qingye turned to look at him, with a smile in his eyes: “It’s not difficult to guess your little thoughts.”
Song Li’s cheeks felt slightly hot and he quickly looked away, pretending to look at the scenery on the roadside. But my heart seemed to be filled with something, soft and warm.He knew that Ling Qingye had never been an expressive person, but his care and protection were hidden in every subtle move – a reminder in class, warm honey water, and timely support in physical education class.
Back in the classroom, Song Li just sat down when he saw Ling Qingye take out a small medicine box from the table and handed it to him: “This is eye drops to relieve eye fatigue. If you stay up late reading, remember to put a few drops in.”
Song Li took the medicine box and touched Ling Qingye’s hand with his fingertips. They both paused subconsciously and then quickly separated.Song Li’s ears turned red instantly, he lowered his head and said “thank you”, and quickly put the medicine box into the drawer.
Ling Qingye looked at his red ears, a hint of tenderness flashed in his eyes, and without saying anything more, he just opened his textbook and continued reading.
The classroom was quiet except for the sound of students turning pages and the rustling of pens across pages. The setting sun shines through the window and falls on their desks, dyeing their textbooks and notebooks a warm orange color.Song Li and Ling Qingye sat side by side, occasionally looking at each other casually, and then quickly looking away, with a faint smile on their lips.
Those unspoken feelings are like the first melting stream after snow, flowing quietly in the heart, gentle and long. They all know that some feelings do not need a grand confession, but only need the company and protection of these long-term companionship, which is touching enough. And this tacit understanding hidden in daily life has become deeper and deeper unknowingly.
