    Chapter 134: Applying Pressure

Late at night, Shu Lin returned to the bedroom alone.

He collapsed onto the bed, burying his face deeply into Shao Chengxi’s pillow.

The icy, clear pheromones hadn’t completely dissipated, but the warmth of their owner was gone.

“Husband…” he whispered, his throat tight with pain.

His fingertips unconsciously traced the fine wrinkles on the pillow, as if he could touch his Alpha that way.

Shao Tingrui’s kind smile flashed through his mind.

And Shao Bingheng, who always wore a stern face, yet treated him with the tolerance of a child.

    Tears silently soaked the pillowcase.

He missed his Alpha so much.

Even though they had only been apart for a day, it felt like a century had passed since they last met.

He missed him, he missed him so much.

He wanted him to hold him, kiss him, sleep with him in his arms, and call him “baby” in his ear…

Shu Lin never imagined that things would turn out this way.

His Alpha had been arrested by the president, what would be the ultimate outcome?

He suddenly sat up, his eyes red-rimmed.

Suddenly, he remembered the twenty-odd patients he had saved with his life.

What was the point of saving them, if they were ultimately going to become political sacrifices?

When Shao Chengxi pulled Shu Lin out of bed that day, he agreed immediately, partly for the sake of the Shao family.

On the other hand, and this was the most important point, he wanted to save those twenty-odd lives.

This was the first time Shu Lin felt proud of being a US-Class Omega.

Since differentiating into a US-Class Omega at the age of fifteen, Shu Lin had been in a state of confusion and fear.

The one in a million probability first brought him a great sense of insecurity.

From the moment he presented himself with a virtual identity, he had always worried about his true identity being exposed.

At the same time, because differentiating into a US-Class Omega was not something he achieved through effort, but a stroke of luck like winning the lottery, it had become a shackle that bound him.

Later, with the encouragement of Shu Jingcheng and Shao Yuqin, he stopped tormenting himself and happily accepted all the benefits that came with being a US-Class Omega.

After saving those twenty-odd patients, he had a renewed understanding of his identity as a US-Class Omega.

    He could actually save people.

And so many lives at that.

So, when he learned that his pheromones were to be used to create a new type of medicine for treating pheromone-related illnesses, he agreed without thinking.

This was a good thing that would benefit thousands, millions, even billions of people, and he had no reason to refuse.

He believed that anyone in his position would have readily agreed.

But now, he was confused again.

Not for himself, but for the fate of people.

He thought about those twenty-odd patients, and the more he thought, the more frightened he became.

It seemed that they would never be able to break free from the shackles of fate.

Their fate was sealed fifteen years ago.

Fifteen years ago, Hong Zhengyue used sonic pheromones for indiscriminate attacks in order to seize power, affecting innocent people.

And these twenty-odd people were the survivors of that disaster.

Although they survived that disaster, they had been suffering from illness for fifteen years.

How difficult their lives had been.

As a result, fifteen years later, Hong Zhengyue still wouldn’t let them go.

First, he used sonic pheromones to induce their pheromone imbalance, in order to achieve the purpose of framing the Shao family.

Thanks to Shu Lin, the one in a million US-Class Omega, they managed to escape.

But so what if they were saved?

Now, wouldn’t they be pushed to the altar again?

    What had they done wrong?

Nothing, they had done nothing wrong.

Fifteen years ago, they were ravaged by sonic pheromones, making them wish they were dead.

Fifteen years later, they would become sacrifices in a political struggle.

The people he risked his life to save had become pawns on Hong Zhengyue’s chessboard.

    Their lives were being manipulated.

All this was simply because they had bad luck and happened to become pawns on the politicians’ chessboard.

    At the mercy of others.

Similarly, the Shao family seemed to be in the same situation.

He originally thought that with Shu Lin, they could avoid this political conspiracy.

But in the end, they were back where they started.

As prominent as the Shao family was, at this moment they were just trapped beasts in a power struggle.

“So… we’re all the same.” Shu Lin curled up in the corner of the bed, the moonlight casting his shadow on the wall, thin as a duckweed.

A hard object under the pillow suddenly poked him.

He reached out to feel it and pulled out a cufflink that Shao Chengxi often wore.

It had been torn off during their lovemaking last night.

Small words were engraved on the metal surface.

    “Xi Lin • Together.”

Shu Lin stared blankly at the cufflink, remembering what Shao Chengxi said before he was taken away:

    “Baby, trust your husband.”

He gently stroked his gland, lost in thought.

After a long while, he wiped away his tears and got out of bed.

Since they were all duckweed, then he would be the most tenacious one.

In the past, he had always hid behind his family, enjoying their love and protection as a matter of course.

Now, it was his turn to protect them.

Since he could save the Shao family and those twenty-odd people once, he could save them a second time.

He would do his best to protect the people he loved under his leaves.

Shu Lin took out paper and pen, writing and drawing all night long.

The next day, as dawn broke, the Shao Residence was already brightly lit.

When Shu Lin pushed open the door to enter the main house, there were faint dark circles under his eyes.

Inside, Shao Shiyan was conducting a holographic communication with the Third Director of the Ministry of National Defense:

“…Just do it this way, all orders issued by the Presidential Palace will be rejected or delayed on the grounds that they are not signed by Minister Shao. In short, the Ministry of National Defense will not be subject to his orders.”

The officer on the screen sneered, “What is the Military Police? We only recognize Minister Shao.”

Everyone quickly discussed countermeasures and continued to deal with the Presidential Palace.

The overall strategy was to rely on the influence of the Shao family and exert pressure on Hong Zhengyue through the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Finance, and the Chamber of Commerce.

Especially the Ministry of National Defense, although Shao Chengxi was not there, so far, none of his subordinates had defected, and they were openly and secretly confronting the Military Police.

Today, Shao Shiyan was going to take the CFO of the Shao Group and slap the bill for 47 billion Imperial coins onto the table of the Ministry of Finance.

Then, Lin Zhengyang would put pressure on Hong Zhengyue again.

After all, this money was owed for handling the opposition events left over after Hong Zhengyue came to power.

It should be handled by him.

At the same time, the Chamber of Commerce alliance announced the suspension of all import and export customs declaration business.

The containers piled up like mountains on the docks were all labeled with conspicuous signs: 【Shao’s Guarantee • Pending Inspection】.

The usually silent Fu Zhong Media suddenly spoke out in a high-profile manner.

Blatantly raising the issue of sonic pheromones fifteen years ago.

Pointing out that the recent pheromone imbalance incident in the medical center was related to this.

Fu Zhong Media emphasized in a statement issued today:

“After in-depth investigation, we have obtained conclusive evidence proving that there is a human connection between the two incidents. We will release a complete investigation report and video evidence at an appropriate time.”

This statement was just short of reporting Hong Zhengyue’s ID card number.

Inside the Presidential Palace, the secretary reported tremblingly:

“Just received news that the Ministry of National Defense army suddenly blocked the three main roads leading to the Imperial Capital. Secretary of State Li Zhengyu said that it was just a routine exercise…”

Hong Zhengyue smashed the teacup in his hand.

Shao Chengxi, you little brat, you have guts.

Are you forcing me to kill you?

    Note
