    Chapter 132: Mutation

As the one-month deadline approached, the day for the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Health to announce the truth was almost upon them.

It was Monday again. After the routine meeting in the afternoon, Hong Zhengyue specifically asked Shao Chengxi to his office alone.

The bulletproof glass window of the President’s office reflected Shao Chengxi’s stern profile.

Hong Zhengyue leisurely brewed tea, and wisps of white mist rose from the spout of the purple clay teapot.

He pushed a cup of tea over, his smile as kind as if he were caring for a nephew:

“Minister Shao has been very busy recently, surely you’re exhausted. Come, have a cup of tea to relax.”

Shao Chengxi politely accepted the tea, “Thank you for your concern, Mr. President. I am only doing what is within my scope of duty.”

Hong Zhengyue revealed a meaningful smile:

“Scope of duty? Yes, that’s right.”

“Minister Shao is young and promising, and acts with swiftness and efficiency. No wonder you are the talent I personally promoted.”

“However, Minister Shao, I have a word of caution for you.”

“Young people, it’s understandable to want to show off a little, but there must be a limit.”

Shao Chengxi put down the tea he had taken a sip of, and looked directly at Hong Zhengyue with composure: “I don’t understand what you mean, Mr. President. Please clarify.”

    Hong Zhengyue’s gaze became obscure:

“You are such a smart person, how can you not understand my meaning?”

“Minister Shao, I give you the stage to display your talents, but the premise is that you cannot touch my bottom line.”

“I told you what this bottom line was when I tacitly allowed you to deal with the Pei family. This is still my bottom line.”

As he said this, a sinister look flashed in his eyes.

Shao Chengxi met his gaze, without any fear:

“Mr. President, I will not touch this bottom line, and you should not touch this bottom line either.”

“Otherwise, it would truly be a case of ‘the magistrates are allowed to burn down houses, while the common people are forbidden even to light lamps’.”

Hong Zhengyue slightly raised his chin, glanced at him, “Are you teaching me how to do things?”

Shao Chengxi shook his head, “I wouldn’t dare. I am just reminding you that everyone is equal before the law.”

“All that I have done is simply within the scope of my duty.”

“It’s a good thing for young people to have drive.” Hong Zhengyue took a sip of tea, “But some things, knowing when to stop is good for everyone.”

Shao Chengxi nodded, “Thank you for your guidance, Mr. President.”

Silence fell in the office for a while, and the sound of the changing of the guard of the military police came from outside the window.

After a while, Shao Chengxi came out of the President’s office and saw through the corridor window that the changing of the guard of the military police in the presidential palace courtyard had ended.

When leaving the presidential palace courtyard, he stopped and asked the captain of the military police: “Have you recently increased manpower here?”

“No, Minister Shao, it’s just a temporary rotation.”

Shao Chengxi nodded in response, without asking any further questions.

On the way home, he felt uneasy.

Hong Zhengyue’s abnormal silence these days, and today’s only symbolic warning. It was not his usual style of doing things.

When Shao Chengxi returned to the Shao Residence, it was already late. Shao Chengxi first went to Shao Tingrui’s place.

After telling Shao Tingrui and Shao Bingheng about his unease, they also felt strange.

After thinking for a long time, Shao Tingrui said:

“We know what kind of person Hong Zhengyue is. Bingheng, remind everyone in the family to be careful and avoid being rash and causing trouble.”

    Shao Bingheng: “Yes, Father.”

Shao Tingrui said to Shao Chengxi again: “Chengxi, you too, must pay attention to Hong Zhengyue’s movements at all times, and prevent him from desperately resorting to extreme measures.”

    Shao Chengxi: “I understand, Grandpa.”

The three of them discussed together until after 9 p.m., when Shao Chengxi returned to his detached villa.

Seeing Shao Chengxi walk into the bedroom, Shu Lin’s eyes lit up, and he quickly hung up the phone with Gu Xiao.

With a spread of his arms, he rushed into Shao Chengxi’s arms, and the two hugged each other, intimately, for a long while.

Shu Lin looked very happy today.

The actors for his first self-produced radio drama were all in place.

The main roles were him and Gu Xiao, directed by Lu Shanchuan.

Even Teacher Feng agreed to guest-star as the villain, to show his support for them.

Wu Jie’s publicity was very good, showing a tendency to become popular before it was even broadcast.

As soon as Shao Chengxi came, he told him all this good news.

Shu Lin hung on Shao Chengxi, asking for praise: “Husband, tell me, am I super amazing?”

Shao Chengxi pinched his butt and smiled: “Yes, baby is awesome.”

After a pause, he stared into Shu Lin’s eyes and reassured:

“Baby, it’s not very peaceful recently. You have to be careful when you go out to record. Don’t run around after work, and go home as soon as possible, understand?”

Shu Lin nodded obediently, “Don’t worry, Brother, I’ll just be active in the studio and won’t run around.”

Shao Chengxi stared at him, and suddenly a burst of frantic throbbing in his heart.

He held him in his arms and kissed him until he suffocated: “Baby, remember, no matter what happens, protect yourself first.”

Shu Lin was kissed breathless by him, and could only nod in response.

The two fell asleep in each other’s arms before dawn.

But at three in the morning, Shao Chengxi suddenly woke up.

The next second, he heard the Shao Residence’s alarm system ringing.

The harsh sound cut through the night sky.

    Damn it!

In the darkness, his eyes suddenly widened. As he was about to turn over and get out of bed, with a “bang!” the bedroom door was violently kicked open.

He instinctively opened his arms, his back to the door, protecting Shu Lin.

Shu Lin suddenly opened his eyes, only to see fully armed soldiers pouring into the room.

Under the glaring flashlight, the muzzle of the guns reflected a cold gleam.

    His face suddenly turned pale.

Shao Chengxi remained calm, held the frightened Shu Lin in his arms, and kept comforting him:

“Baby, don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid, I’m here, nothing will happen, don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid.”

At this moment, the leading captain of the military police stepped forward, like a robot, and showed a document:

“Minister Shao, emergency order from the Presidential Palace, please cooperate with the investigation of a major national security incident, and come with us now.”

Shao Chengxi ignored them and kept comforting Shu Lin.

Shu Lin hugged him tightly, met his eyes, and only breathed a little faster.

Seeing that Shu Lin’s emotions were still stable, Shao Chengxi slowly turned his head, his eyes as calm as the autumn lake, but as deep as the bottomless abyss.

“Get out, you scared my Omega. Wait outside, I’ll come out myself in ten minutes.”

His voice was low and powerful, neither high nor low, but with the natural powerful aura of an S-Class Alpha.

The captain of the military police met his gaze. While still hesitating, he felt the icy pheromones of the S-Class Alpha pressing over like a tsunami.

His whole body instantly felt a bone-chilling cold.

The soldiers in the front row knelt on the ground and vomited on the spot.

Fifteen seconds later, the captain of the military police had difficulty breathing, and his legs began to tremble.

He instinctively took a step back, leaned against the door inconspicuously, and forced himself to appear calm:

“Okay, Minister Shao, we’ll give you ten minutes then.”

“Your father and grandfather have been controlled by us. I believe you won’t abandon them.”

Shao Chengxi hugged Shu Lin into his arms, his voice laced with ice, “Get out!”

All the soldiers withdrew, and the moment the door closed, the bedroom became quiet again.
