Oh My Hero – Episode 57

    57. Guide (2)

As soon as morning broke, I received a call from Director Kim.

He told Woojin and me to come to the Director’s office at the Guide Bureau.

I checked the call and turned off my Smartwatch’s screen.

‘Woojin hasn’t even woken up yet, how am I supposed to go to the Director’s office?’

Plus, I need to monitor Woojin’s concussion progress.

After finishing my usual morning jog and shower, I went out to buy breakfast. Usually, I’d wake Woojin and Cha Wooreen at this time and head to the cafeteria, but since Woojin wasn’t feeling well today, I planned to get takeout.

The dark sky from my jog was now painted with vibrant colors as the red sun rose.

The transition from deep blue to purple to pink, and the process of the red sun bathing everything nearby in yellow light gradually turning white and turning the sky blue is always beautiful.

The fact that the transition is so quick makes the scene even more special.

‘Right, things change in an instant.’

I thought about how my life pattern had changed immediately after meeting Woojin.

Going for a jog and eating afterward is the same as before, but on days like today with no schedule, I would always go for personal training. My room used to be just a place to sleep.

Now, I’m too busy taking care of the kid and Woojin to even think about personal training.

Of course, I like my life now.

It’s more hectic than before, but if I can see Woojin every day, all day long, I can handle that much.

His hair, like the dark night sky, his skin like a field of pure white snow, his eyelashes like the wings of a black butterfly, and his eyes, like a winter lake with frost flowers blooming on thin ice, seemed to be a collection of all the clear and beautiful things in the world. The mole under his left eye gave him a bewitching yet dreamy beauty.

And his deep-set eyes, like the cliffs of a snowy mountain, and his sharp nose clearly showed off Woojin’s handsome features. His thin but plump lips are also lovely and pretty.

Just thinking about it made me want to see him in person sooner.

I hurried my steps back to the Dormitory.

The sky was now completely filled with blue light, shining brightly.

    *

Woojin didn’t wake up even after Cha Wooreen and I finished our meal and cleaned up.

It didn’t matter since we were planning to stay in the room all day if Woojin wasn’t feeling well anyway.

I tied Cha Wooreen’s hair and changed her clothes. After finishing all of Cha Wooreen’s requested styling, someone knocked on the door.

“Gang Hana-! Give me back my pot-”

    It was Kim Sanghyuk.

In the Esper Dormitory building, sounds from the hallway travel very well into the rooms.

So, Kim Sanghyuk yelling like that, looking for his pot from me, was basically spreading rumors that I borrowed his pot and didn’t return it.

He’s really petty, retaliating like this for not returning it for a little over a week.

I opened the door right away.

“Okay, I’ll give you the pot, so be quiet. You’ll wake Woojin.”

“Huh? What are you doing here at this hour?”

Kim Sanghyuk, face to face with me, looked rather bewildered.

‘What’s with this guy? Did he just come to ruin my image?’

It was absurd, but it was better to let him into the room than to make a commotion all over the neighborhood.

I repeatedly told Kim Sanghyuk, who is always loud, to lower his voice and let him in.

“But why are you home at this hour?”

I told him to lower his voice, and Kim Sanghyuk whispered to me. That’s not what I meant.

I was a little uncomfortable with Kim Sanghyuk whispering so close to my ear, so I distanced myself and answered.

“Woojin is still sleeping. You don’t have to go this far.”

“No way, the sun is high in the sky and he’s still sleeping?! Is he Sleeping Beauty or something?!”

I told him he didn’t have to whisper, and suddenly he’s yelling and making a fuss. Kim Sanghyuk never has an in-between.

“I told you not to shout. Woojin hurt his head yesterday. Let him rest.”

“Oppa hurt his head yesterday? Where?”

Now even Cha Wooreen joined in. The fearless and cheerful child ran to the bed and rummaged through Woojin’s hair.

    “There’s no injury?”

“There isn’t now. He got treatment yesterday.”

“Really? Then it doesn’t hurt anymore. Wooreen, wake Oppa up!”

    “Okay!”

What is this? Weren’t you guys not getting along? I was speechless seeing Kim Sanghyuk and Cha Wooreen suddenly joining forces.

Cha Wooreen, who was poking and prodding Woojin, finally woke him up.

    “Ugh… what…?”

Woojin frowned as he woke up. Even with his face swollen from sleeping so long, he was still handsome. I was drawn to Woojin’s side as if possessed.

    “Woojin, um…”

I looked straight at Woojin’s face and lost my words.

The bloody figure from when he was first discovered in the warehouse yesterday instantly overlapped.

But Woojin, looking at me with unease, touched my face.

    “Hana, why are you crying…?”

    ‘Huh? Crying? Me?’

Turns out Woojin was wiping away my tears. His fingers, after he wiped my face, were wet.

I liked the feeling of Woojin’s long fingers caressing my face.

Since things had come to this, I gently closed my eyes and rubbed my face against Woojin’s large palm.

It felt good, being firm, warm, and smelling like Woojin.

Woojin’s hand, which was stiff with surprise at first, gradually cupped my face and stroked it.

“Ugh, sorry for visiting without knowing this.”

Kim Sanghyuk broke the good mood.

“If I knew this, I wouldn’t have come. I was clueless. I’ll… be going now.”

No one was curious, but Kim Sanghyuk shouted that he would leave on his own.

However, since the front door of the Esper Dormitory cannot be opened unless it’s the owner of the room, Kim Sanghyuk approached the window near the bed we were on.

Kim Sanghyuk, stepping on the side table next to me and Woojin and pulling his body out of the window, seemed so… pathetic.

Whether people watching thought so or not, Kim Sanghyuk, hanging from the window frame, even had the Yu Yu to wave.

    “Then I’ll go. Bye~”

    “Bye.”

Thanks to Woojin’s strict home education, Cha Wooreen, who is very polite, was the only one to say goodbye to Kim Sanghyuk.

Kim Sanghyuk went out the window, unconcerned about being on the 11th floor.

As soon as Kim Sanghyuk left, I closed the window immediately.

Since there was no talk about an Esper falling to his death, Kim Sanghyuk must have returned to his room safely.

    *

Fortunately, Woojin’s concussion symptoms were mild.

‘He gets a little dizzy or tired, but they say he’ll get better if he rests well, so that’s a relief.’

I was so busy looking after Woojin that I spent the whole day in the room doing nothing for the first time in my life. If he suddenly fainted from dizziness or other symptoms arose, I had to take him to the Medical Bureau right away, so I couldn’t take my eyes off him.

The last time Woojin was sick and canceled all his schedules, I went out to do odd jobs, but that was just a cold, and this time it’s a concussion. Head injuries are dangerous, so I have to watch over him.

And spending a day doing nothing like this wasn’t so bad either.

It’s probably because I got to see Woojin’s face all day long.

That’s how a day passed with Woojin and me doing nothing.

    *

Today is Monday, so I have to go to class. I also have to submit reports to the Central and Research Center, and to the Guide Bureau.

‘I’ll have to take Woojin to class today too, but I don’t know if his condition will be okay. Should I just skip today too?’

While I was seriously considering it, my Smartwatch rang.

It was Director Kim’s summons to come with Woojin right away.

This time he specifically called us to come, so I couldn’t ignore it like yesterday. A summons from the director, if you don’t move for more than 5 minutes, you’ll be immediately escorted by a teleportation ability user.

Reluctantly, I took Woojin and Cha Wooreen and went to the Guide Bureau.

    Knock knock-

When I knocked on the Director’s office door, Director Kim immediately allowed us to enter.

“If you’re going to come, just you two should come, why are you bringing a kid?”

“Then wait until I drop the kid off at the kindergarten. You called us from the crack of dawn, so I had no choice but to bring her.”

“Does the kid go to kindergarten? Someone take her there. Kids need to go to school.”

Director Kim, who has a strong passion for education, ordered someone nearby to take Cha Wooreen away. She hasn’t even changed her clothes, washed her face, or eaten yet.

Still, it’s a relief that there’s one less thing to do.

I waved to Cha Wooreen as she walked away and brought up the main point to Director Kim.

“So why did you call us?”

“Why do you think I called you? Because you didn’t come yesterday, that’s why.”

Director Kim took out a cigarette and replied insincerely.

“Why do you think I didn’t come yesterday? You should have been fully briefed on the concussion.”

I was displeased with Director Kim’s attitude. Woojin was so badly hurt, and he didn’t even consider the circumstances. The sight of Woojin covered in blood made me shudder just thinking about it.

Whether he knew my feelings or not, Director Kim remained nonchalant.

“It wasn’t a big injury, you should be grateful that I healed it all. What’s with the fuss? You should know that I let you rest yesterday because it was the weekend.”

Director Kim exhaled cigarette smoke and continued.

“So how was it? What are your thoughts on catching a hooligan yourself?”

“How was it? How would it be? Just catching hooligans, like always. We do it every year.”

    “No, not you, you idiot.”

Director Kim told me to be quiet and tapped my forehead with the lighter. Then, saying he was too lazy to get an ashtray, he demanded that I hold out my hand.

‘He’s really like a bothersome old hag.’

I grumbled inwardly and obediently held out my hand. Director Kim flicked cigarette ash onto my palm.

It was the moment the embers of the cigarette ash fell onto my palm.

    “What are you doing?!”

Woojin, who was next to me, turned pale and shouted as he jumped up.
