Oh My Hero – Chapter 28

    28. The S-grades I Ended Up Raising (9)

I immediately turned on my smartwatch to see if there was a cat translator.

    “Oh, there actually is one?”

Thinking it was amazing that there was such a thing, I immediately turned on the translator.

    -I don’t feel good.

    -I really don’t feel good.

    -Focus on me.

    -I don’t feel good.

    -My body doesn’t feel good.

    -Focus on me.

    -Think about me.

    -I really don’t feel good.

As soon as I turned on the translator, sentences that I couldn’t tell if they were really what the cat was saying poured out.

Whether the translator’s sentences are true is unclear, but looking at him, he does seem to be in a bad mood.

“But I could tell that even without a translator?”

As I was watching the translated results of the meows scroll up, an alarm appeared on the screen saying that the food was ready.

I told Wooreen, who was still squatting down holding the cat, that I’d be right back, and went to get the food.

The meal packed in the lunchbox was neatly arranged.

We decided to eat on the bench where Wooreen was sitting. Wooreen also put the cat down on the ground and opened the lunchbox.

Just as I was about to take a spoonful, Wooreen said,

    “There’s no cat food.”

Come to think of it, that’s right. But the restaurant only sells food for humans, so it can’t be helped. Besides, I got kicked out of the restaurant because of this guy, so I was a little annoyed that I had to get him food too.

I calmed Wooreen down, saying that since the food was already out, we should finish eating and then give the cat food.

But Wooreen insisted that the cat needed to be fed right away and scooped some food onto the lunchbox lid.

Looking at the contents, it was a carrot from the spicy pork stir-fry.

Of course, the cat didn’t even touch the food that Wooreen gave him.

After the meal, we went to the Ecology Conservation Center to get cat food.

I was going to drop the cat off there while I was at it, but Wooreen strongly opposed, so it fell through.

In the end, I had no choice but to just get a bag of cat food and come back.

    Somehow, my roommates kept increasing.

    *

The new roommate was picky and arrogant. Even if I got food and gave him a bowl full, he wouldn’t even take a bite, only taking a few sips of water, which worried Wooreen.

In the end, the arrogant fur ball starved all day yesterday.

‘He’ll reach his limit soon, so he’ll eat today.’

I didn’t think much of it and went for a jog.

It was still very dark because the sun hadn’t risen yet, and Wooreen was still sleeping with the cat in my bed. She’ll probably wake up today after I come back from jogging and shower.

‘If I keep working silently today, the day will pass.’

But after I came back from jogging and finished showering, someone was knocking on my door.

‘It’s not even 8 o’clock yet, who is it?’

Everyone is busy preparing to start work at this hour.

I swallowed my grumbling, shook the water out of my wet hair with the towel on my shoulder, and opened the door.

Standing in front of the open door was Oh Joohyun from the Audit Bureau. And she was wearing the Audit Bureau uniform.

    “?”

Looking slightly behind her, there were two more kids wearing the same Audit Bureau clothes.

Oh Joohyun stepped into my room and said something that added fuel to the already bewildering situation.

“Esper Gang Hana, we will be searching your residence on suspicion of kidnapping and confining a Guide.”

‘What the hell is she talking about?’

I was so dumbfounded that I just stood there stupidly watching them come into my room. When someone is too absurd, their body freezes.

Oh Joohyuk, who strode into the room, took out a search detector, looked at the screen, and then ran straight to the cat.

Then, he took out an Audit Bureau-exclusive stick and started cursing at me out of the blue.

“Your methods are so clichéd and you have such a perverted taste. How long have you been in the Association, and you thought this wouldn’t get caught?”

After muttering and cursing, Oh Joohyuk took the stick and poked the cat, who was sitting still on the bed.

At the end of the stick that the Audit Bureau carries around is the culmination of research created by the EGA Association. That small, white crystal is an object called the “Jeonsache,” a special substance that has been managed independently by the Association for a long time.

What is this ‘Jeonsache’? It is a substance that ignores non-physical phenomena caused by abilities.

So, if you apply this substance, the phenomenon created by an Esper’s ability disappears as cleanly as if it were washed away with water.

It’s like the cat on the bed right now has disappeared without a trace, and Woojin has taken his place.

‘…What the hell is going on? Why is Woojin sitting on my bed naked!’

Of course, even in that situation, Woojin was as beautiful and delicate as a marble statue sculpted by an artist.

I immediately covered Woojin with a blanket and dragged Oh Joohyuk to the front door.

Woojin is afraid of Espers, so how scared would he be if that stiff person was standing right in front of him?

And I have things to talk about with Oh Joohyuk. Oh Joohyuk will probably want to talk to me too.

My room isn’t very big, so I only went as far as in front of the bathroom and let go of Oh Joohyuk.

Oh Joohyuk rubbed his wrist, which had been grabbed, and glared at me. I didn’t care about Oh Joohyuk’s glare and asked what I was curious about.

“Tell me in detail about the story of Woojin being kidnapped and confined. I don’t know why he ended up in my room like that. Woojin might get scared, so don’t talk too loud.”

“…Why should I tell you, the suspect? You’ve been with the victim all day, and you don’t know anything.”

“That’s because I didn’t kidnap and confine him. I just let Wooreen do what she wanted!”

I protested passionately, but the rude Oh Joohyuk ignored my words and put his hand on my shoulder.

‘This bastard is trying to read my memories with his ability again.’

    “…”

Oh Joohyuk, who had read my memories without permission, confirmed that my statements and actions matched, and declared that he would exclude me from the list of suspects.

It was so obvious that I wasn’t particularly impressed.

But Oh Joohyuk’s next words were enough to get my attention.

“Guide Cha Woojin left the training session at approximately 9:08 AM yesterday. He hasn’t returned since then. He didn’t even return to the dormitory, so a missing person report was filed at 0:00 today. So, we tracked Guide Cha Woojin’s whereabouts from the time he left. He’s been with you all along.”

‘Ah, so that’s what happened. There’s no way the Association would have given a guide who hasn’t even received training permission to go on a field trip.’

I wasn’t surprised because I had already guessed that Woojin was a professional truant who runs away from training. But it felt new to hear this directly from someone at the Association. Woojin doesn’t look like that kind of person at all, but he has a completely opposite charm.

When I turned my head, the protagonist of our opposite charm was sitting on the bed, huddled up with the blanket pulled over his head.

The Audit Bureau employees who had followed Oh Joohyuk were saying something to Woojin on both sides of him.

I immediately went to Woojin and pushed the noisy guys away with both arms. The guys who were suddenly pushed to either side staggered, but I didn’t care.

‘Woojin is in a bad mood, so why should I care about the guys who are just chanting about cooperating with the investigation on both sides of him?’

Woojin under the blanket was trembling slightly.

    These bastards are scaring Woojin.

I wanted to hit them all and kick them out, but I’m a rational human being, so I suppressed the urge to hit them for now.

But I can’t tolerate them harassing Woojin in front of me.

I grabbed the two guys who were hovering around Woojin and stood them next to Oh Joohyuk.

And I offered a deal to Oh Joohyuk, who was still rubbing his wrist and glaring at me.

There was a possibility because Oh Joohyuk had cleared me of suspicion by reading my memories.

    *

After chasing away the uninvited guests, the room became quite quiet. When it became quiet, Woojin’s sobbing could be heard more clearly.

‘Wait a minute. Sobbing? That means…’

I was flustered and immediately lifted the blanket. Woojin, who was crouching down and resting his head on his arms folded over his knees, lifted his head. Sure enough, there were tears in his eyes.

I was thinking that his beautifully shining eyes looked like a diamond photo I had seen in a magazine when I suddenly came to my senses. Woojin was staring at me.

‘Oh, um. What was I going to say?’

Did they say that your memory deteriorates when you see something beautiful? I suddenly forgot what I was going to do. Then Wooreen, who was watching us from the side, said,

    “Oppa, your butt is showing!”

…What is she suddenly talking about? While I was blankly confused, Woojin hurriedly pulled up the blanket that had slipped down to his feet.

And then I realized again. Woojin was naked.
