Chapter 117: Also Lost Memories (The Finale) This Lord is the Emperor…
Yu Shuli furrowed his brow, a sudden twitch in his temple.
This is bad… what necessary connection could there be between him and Wei Yan waking up…
By the time he was helped, trembling, into Wei Yan’s courtyard, he finally sensed something was amiss.
“What are you all standing here for?”
Physician Yang happened to emerge from the main gate. Seeing him, he sighed and shook his head.
Yu Shuli’s heart pounded. “Physician Yang… Wei Yan, he…”
“He’s awake… but…” Physician Yang closed his eyes, turning away, his lips seemingly twitching. “Go and see him.”
Yu Shuli all but fell through the doorframe, his breath stolen from his chest.
The full-length mirror in the room reflected his slightly greenish face.
Yu Shuli pushed away the soldiers supporting him and walked straight inside, a string of red thread dropping from his hand, the edges scorched.
“Wei Yan…”
The anxious voice startled the man resting on the couch with his eyes closed.
He turned his head, his black hair scattered across the pillow, brushing against long, slightly curled eyelashes. He frowned, feeling a slight itch. “Who… are you?”
Yu Shuli’s body trembled, revealing a never-before-seen bewilderment.
“I…” He walked over, leaning close to Wei Yan’s side, and haltingly said, “Wei Yan, it’s me…”
“Physician Yang said I have a lover. He also tried to help me remember, but…” His voice was as cold as if it had been soaked in snow water, “I’m sorry, I don’t quite remember.”
Yu Shuli’s eyes widened, his voice bitter. “Wei Yan… don’t scare me…”
Wei Yan looked up, a faint smile on his face, his gaze searching Yu Shuli’s face. “So, you are?”
Yu Shuli felt as if struck by a bolt of lightning.
He never imagined he would encounter such a day.
Wei Yan had lost his memory… forgotten him.
Ignoring his own injuries, Yu Shuli’s fingers pressed into the bed curtain, almost tearing the already fragile silk.
He nearly fell onto Wei Yan’s face. “Wei Yan… it’s me… what… what’s wrong with you?” His voice inevitably laced with a sob.
Seeing him cry, Wei Yan seemed to suddenly understand and politely curved his lips. “So, you are the Duke Protector of the Nation.”
He turned his head, politely distancing himself from Yu Shuli. “Physician Yang said it might be a stress response caused by trauma, perhaps it will be better in a few days, you don’t need to worry.”
How could Yu Shuli not worry?
Seeing that Wei Yan was actually avoiding him, he felt extremely aggrieved.
“If you’ve forgotten me, have you forgotten anything else?” His wet eyelashes fluttered, recalling, “I also lost my memory before, losing many years of memories from the past.”
Wei Yan shook his head. “I remember everything else.”
“How is that possible?!” Yu Shuli suddenly raised his voice, his tone sharp. “Then why could you forget me specifically?!”
“I do remember having a lover, but I vaguely forgot who it was.” Seeing that he was losing it, Wei Yan gently patted his shoulder, explaining slowly, “Duke Protector of the Nation need not be sad, amnesia doesn’t have much impact on me, everything will be as usual.”
“How could it have no impact?!” Seeing his polite detachment, Yu Shuli could no longer control himself. He grabbed Wei Yan’s arm, pulling him closer. “You say it has no impact, then do you want to sleep with me now? Come and sleep!”
Wei Yan’s lips twitched, the faint smile abruptly disappearing.
Yu Shuli threw his hand away, wiping tears as he cursed. “Liar! You’re a scoundrel!”
This time, the amnesiac Wei Yan naturally wouldn’t come up to coax him.
Yu Shuli’s fake crying turned into real crying, and in the end, the more he thought about it, the more wronged he felt, tears flowing uncontrollably.
Wei Yan sighed and tugged at his sleeve.
“What?!” Yu Shuli looked back, glaring at him, his almond eyes swollen into peach pits.
Wei Yan suddenly grabbed his wrist.
A delicate sensation traveled across his palm.
Yu Shuli retracted his fingers slightly, feeling somewhat uncomfortable.
Wei Yan stared at the red thread on his wrist, reminding him, “Duke Protector of the Nation’s red string is broken.”
Yu Shuli glared at him again. “I know!” Wasn’t he anxious to see him? He hadn’t had time to take care of anything else after waking up.
“This is… you…” Wei Yan tentatively asked.
But seeing Yu Shuli’s eyes almost rolling to the heavens, he chuckled and changed his words. “This is… our token of love?”
Yu Shuli reluctantly grunted in agreement.
“Then why didn’t you take good care of it?” Wei Yan seemingly casually examined the knots on it, his breath coming closer. “This craftsmanship doesn’t look like something you can buy outside…”
Yu Shuli suddenly pulled his hand back, stammering as he retorted, “It… it was made by… myself… didn’t take good care of it, so what?!”
Wei Yan raised an eyebrow, seemingly reluctantly praising him. “Duke Protector of the Nation… is truly skilled.”
He added, “It’s a pity it’s broken.”
“Wei Yan! Don’t think I can’t hear the sarcasm in your voice!” Yu Shuli “hmph”-ed. “When you hadn’t lost your memory, although you didn’t say it, you must have secretly disliked it, right? Now that you’ve lost your memory, it’s all coming out?”
He leaned over to pry Wei Yan’s wrist open. “If you dislike it so much, then give me back what I gave you. Let’s pretend we were never married.”
“How can that be?” Wei Yan hid his wrist behind his back, coughing softly, leaning against the headboard, saying weakly, “Married by Imperial Decree, how can you say it never happened? Etiquette and moral principles must be observed.”
“Etiquette and moral principles? Do etiquette and moral principles say you can marry a male wife?”
“They naturally don’t say that, but since I’ve already married you, I cannot abandon you halfway, that is the teaching of the ancient sages.”
Yu Shuli hated his ink-filled belly and the way he argued with him. He “pfft”-ed. “Who told you that you married me?”
Yu Shuli took advantage of his amnesia, cursing and talking nonsense. “This Lord married you!”
“Now this Lord is annoyed, if you agree, we’ll divorce. It was His Majesty who decreed the marriage first, but he can control heaven and earth, but he can’t control whether you and I divorce.”
A glint flashed in Wei Yan’s eyes.
He smiled and said, “Then Duke Protector of the Nation must not act so recklessly, after all, I am still a patient. If it spreads, saying that you abandoned your suffering husband, it wouldn’t be good for your reputation.”
Saying it again and again, he just wouldn’t agree to a divorce.
Yu Shuli suspiciously sized him up. “Wei Yan… you wouldn’t be faking amnesia, would you?” As soon as he asked, he denied it himself, “Doesn’t seem like it. The way you avoided me just now was definitely genuine… that can’t be faked…” As he spoke, he wanted to cry again.
Wei Yan raised an eyebrow, watching the storm in his mind, slightly turning his head, seriously studying his profile.
By the time Yu Shuli reacted and looked back at him, Wei Yan’s undisguised gaze had been on him for a long time.
“You… why are you staring at me like that? Could a flower bloom on my face?!” Yu Shuli was somewhat embarrassed and angry. Wei Yan’s gaze hadn’t been so blatant before. Suddenly being stared at like this made Yu Shuli quite uncomfortable.
“I was thinking… Duke Protector of the Nation is truly beautiful…” Wei Yan glanced at Yu Shuli’s reddened ear, obediently shifting his gaze away, and smiled, “Even if I muddle through my life, it seems… I wouldn’t be at a loss.”
“But I’m at a loss! I’m at a huge loss!” Yu Shuli turned his head, crying and laughing as he wiped away his tears.
When Physician Yang came in to deliver the medicine, he saw that the two were far apart, behaving with mutual respect, which made him feel curious.
He coughed lightly and said, “It’s time to take the medicine, Prime Minister Wei.”
He still walked over, but instead of placing the medicine tray on the table, he gave it directly to Yu Shuli.
Yu Shuli looked up, not accepting it. “What? Are you the doctor or am I the doctor?”
Physician Yang’s beard trembled, he smiled. “Did Duke Protector of the Nation eat chili peppers today? Why are you so fiery?”
Yu Shuli scanned him, wanting to curse, but considering his age, he could only swallow his anger.
Physician Yang carried the medicine tray to the bedside, knocking on the table. “Since Prime Minister Wei has woken up, he should drink the medicine himself, so this old man doesn’t have to be old enough to feed you.”
Wei Yan sat up slightly, his hair falling slightly messily on his shoulders. He nodded, coughing twice. “Thank you, Physician Yang.”
“The medicine was just brewed, I brought the medicine pot over too. It’s a bit hot, be careful when drinking.” Physician Yang glanced at Yu Shuli, “I’m going out, Duke Protector of the Nation, are you coming with me?”
Yu Shuli turned his head, ignoring him.
Physician Yang probed Yu Shuli’s expression, suddenly turning his head, pointing and warning Wei Yan a few times behind Yu Shuli’s back, then touched his own neck to hint at him, before smiling, shaking his head, and going out.
After Physician Yang left, Wei Yan reached out to pick up the medicine bowl, but accidentally bumped into the table.
He “hissed” and looked at Yu Shuli, his voice somewhat aggrieved. “Could I trouble Duke Protector of the Nation to bring it over? The medicine tray is a bit far away.”
Yu Shuli reluctantly walked over. “Why didn’t you mention it when the old man was here? You’re embarrassed to trouble the old man, but not me?”
He picked up the medicine tray, thinking of something, suddenly a smile appearing on his lips, wanting to show off a trick in front of Wei Yan.
His fingers hooked onto the medicine pot, then suddenly lifted it up with his entire hand.
His starting movement was too fast, Wei Yan didn’t react at all.
The moment he received the medicine pot, Yu Shuli’s face changed.
Wei Yan had already reacted, grabbing him and pulling him over, while the medicine pot was thrown into the air, then fell to the ground, becoming a mess of hot liquid.
The person landed safely in his arms, confirming that his hands were empty, Wei Yan breathed a sigh of relief, blurting out, “Daring to catch a medicine pot with your bare hands, aren’t you afraid of burning your hands?!” His reprimand mixed with the scent of medicine, turning into a sigh when he touched Yu Shuli’s curled fingers.
“Let me see, are you burned?” He was about to pry open Yu Shuli’s palm, but was pushed away.
“Wei Yan, how long are you going to keep acting?”
The air froze.
Wei Yan’s hand paused in mid-air.
Yu Shuli looked at him with cold eyes. “You clearly, didn’t lose your memory, right?”
Yu Shuli grabbed his wrist, revealing the red concentric knot hidden in his sleeve.
During the fire in the main hall of the Imperial Palace, even though Yu Shuli barely touched any sparks, the simple concentric knot made of red thread was almost shapeless, let alone Wei Yan, who had wandered through life and death in the fire.
Sure enough, Wei Yan’s hands and arms had burn marks.
But only… the already loose and simple red thread was still as good as new.
Yu Shuli raised his hand and smiled. “This kind of craftsmanship doesn’t look like my own level.”
“You’re quite something, even with amnesia you remember to mend this old love’s token of love.”
“Ji An…”
“Shut up!” Yu Shuli’s eyes suddenly fell with hot tears. “Is it fun to play with me?”
Seeing that his cover was blown, and he had made the person cry again, Wei Yan didn’t bother to hide it anymore. “My intention… was to let you retaliate against me in the same way as I was before… Wasn’t it because you had amnesia that I tricked you a lot, swindled a lot from you? I wanted you to take this opportunity to retaliate, to swindle more things from me… Who knew…”
Who knew he would torment Yu Shuli like this?
He sighed. “Don’t be angry with yourself, and don’t take it out on yourself, take your anger out on me. Why hurt yourself?” He hooked Yu Shuli’s palm. “Let your husband take a look, are you burned?”
Yu Shuli rushed over, wrapping his arms around his neck, pressing his lips against his.
The suppressed feelings for too long, naturally, there was no mercy in the biting, and for a moment, the taste of blood filled their mouths.
Wei Yan gently patted his back again and again, coaxing him. “Okay… it was my fault… I made you worry… I’m sorry… I won’t dare to do it again.”
He looked at Yu Shuli’s palm, distressed. “Look, it’s burned like this…”
“If I didn’t do this, would you be unable to help but reveal the truth?” Yu Shuli glared at him. “You’re just making fun of me!”
Wei Yan pulled his other hand over, placing it on his chest, asking, “Listen… it’s all sincerity, not a bit of falsehood.”
The sound of his heartbeat was deafening, Wei Yan came closer, sucking away Yu Shuli’s tears one by one.
Yu Shuli turned his eyes away shyly, not letting him kiss him.
“Okay… okay… next time you continue to pretend to have amnesia, okay? You continue to coax me and trick me, for a lifetime, okay?” Wei Yan, with tears in his eyes, smiled and kissed his brow.
The wind chimes under the eaves rang softly, Zhong Nian hurriedly poked his head in to report. “Little General, your subordinate heard that His Majesty has dismissed you! Saying that you don’t have to report to the military camp for a year! What is to be done? Do we have to rebel again?!”
“What’s the panic?! The world is peaceful now, what rebellion are you rebelling against? You’re rebelling against a big-headed ghost!” Yu Shuli looked at Wei Yan, who was diligently applying medicine to his hand, and beckoned him over.
Wei Yan’s eyes curved, obediently placing his chin in his palm. Yu Shuli smiled through his tears, answering Zhong Nian outside the door. “This Lord has approved paid leave from His Majesty, I’m busy taking care of my beauty from now on.”
