MRFD Chapter 30
by VolareChapter 30
Chen Ke Yao let out a long sigh of relief, then raised his hand to turn on the hallway light.
When he spoke, his tone was one of amusement and exasperation: “Ms. Lan, when did you get back?”
“I…” The petite woman, referred to as Ms. Lan, barely got a word out before her still-sleepy face instantly perked up, “Oh dear, and who is this?”
Her gaze landed on Rong Yi and Chen Ke Yao’s still-joined hands.
Rong Yi jolted awake, pulling his hand back as if electrocuted, even wiping it on his jacket a couple of times.
Unexpectedly, Chen Ke Yao, after a quick glance at him, actually grabbed his hand again, adjusting it with lightning speed into an interlocked grip.
Rong Yi was caught off guard, a little dumbfounded, blankly looking at the Alpha beside him, then immediately stunned by what the guy said.
“This is who I told you about before, my lover, his name is Rong Yi,” Chen Ke Yao said, “See, I wasn’t lying to you.”
What? Lover what? Your what?
Rong Yi stood there with his mouth open, not having time to react before Ms. Lan immediately walked over.
“Oh dear, Little Rong, right? Hello,” she looked Rong Yi up and down, “I am…”
“Darling,” Chen Ke Yao turned to look at Rong Yi, “This is our mom.”
Rong Yi was doubly shocked.
Judging by appearance alone, it was hard to imagine that the woman in front of him, regardless of age or physique, could have such a large son. But more importantly, what was Chen Ke Yao, who was currently dodging Ms. Lan’s gaze and frantically winking at him, trying to pull?
After hesitating, Rong Yi still managed to squeeze out a smile: “Hello.”
“I’m so sorry about how I look,” Ms. Lan, disheveled and in pajamas, said to Rong Yi with a shy expression, “Ah, I’m sleeping in the guest room, isn’t that where Little Rong is staying?”
“It’s okay, I…” Rong Yi opened his mouth subconsciously, then stopped mid-sentence.
No, it’s not okay! She’s sleeping in his room, where was he supposed to go?
“Oh, you should be sleeping with Yao Yao,” Ms. Lan finished for him, “Look how confused I am.”
“…”
Probably afraid he’d say something irreparable, Chen Ke Yao, who had been silent all along, fiercely pinched Rong Yi’s palm, making Rong Yi squirm with goosebumps all over his back.
“Ms. Lan, you should go back to your room dressed like that,” Chen Ke Yao said, pulling Rong Yi towards his own room, “It’s late, we’re going back to our room too. We can talk about things tomorrow.”
As soon as Chen Ke Yao carefully closed the door, Rong Yi couldn’t hold back any longer.
He abruptly pulled his hand away, pointing at Chen Ke Yao’s nose: “What are you doing!”
“Please!” Chen Ke Yao clasped his hands together, “Just bear with it, she’ll be gone in two or three days at most.”
“I’m renting that room, I paid for it!” Rong Yi emphasized.
“…I won’t charge you rent, okay?” Chen Ke Yao said, raising a finger to his lips, “Keep your voice down, don’t let her hear.”
Seeing Rong Yi still glaring at him silently, Chen Ke Yao quickly dragged over a comfortable-looking armchair from the side: “Here, you sit.”
Rong Yi hesitated for a moment, then obediently sat down, immediately sinking into the soft cushions. It was even more comfortable than he had imagined. As a result, his mood improved a little.
“What exactly is going on?” he asked, adjusting his posture.
“She doesn’t trust me to be alone, she always wants to set me up on blind dates. I found it annoying, so I said I already had someone and was even engaged,” Chen Ke Yao reached out to scratch his hair, “I originally thought she was far away and out of reach…”
“If you just make up a lie like that, won’t it be exposed if she talks to your dad?”
“It’s okay,” Chen Ke Yao waved his hand, “They don’t contact each other.”
“Eh?”
Chen Ke Yao didn’t seem too willing to bring these things up, continuing, “She only knows I like Alphas, but she always introduces me to girls… I’m not interested.”
Rong Yi understood. This gay guy was extremely thorough. The natural law of attraction between opposite sexes didn’t work at all for him.
But looking at it this way, Ms. Lan had indeed assumed he was an Alpha. Compared to Chen Ke Yao’s father, who seemed to be facing a formidable enemy, her acceptance seemed pretty high.
“She rarely comes back to the country after remarrying, she probably won’t stay long this time either, so just put up with it…” Chen Ke Yao said cautiously, “I won’t charge you rent this month, okay?”
“How am I supposed to put up with it!” Rong Yi flailed in the armchair, too comfortable to get up despite his agitation, “You only have one bed in your room!”
“That’s not a problem at all,” Chen Ke Yao said whimsically, “We can take turns sleeping. Anyway, my biological clock is…”
“I can’t!”
Rong Yi finally couldn’t help but straighten up.
No matter how much he looked like an Alpha, he was still a single, unmarried Omega in essence. The closest contact he’d ever had with an Alpha was just a few kisses… and that was with the Alpha in front of him! Now, having him stay overnight in the same room with Chen Ke Yao for several days in a row was something he couldn’t accept, either physically or mentally.
“I promise I won’t do anything!” Chen Ke Yao raised both hands above his head.
Rong Yi frowned as he looked at him.
“Actually, you don’t have to lie like that. You could just say you and your partner just broke up, and I’m just a regular tenant, wouldn’t that be better?”
“…That’s true,” Chen Ke Yao said, “But it’s too late now.”
Rong Yi had a sentence stuck in his throat, unable to spit it out.
He really wanted to say to Chen Ke Yao, I seriously suspect you’re deliberately trying to take advantage of me.
Chen Ke Yao’s room was much larger than the one Rong Yi was staying in. Rong Yi had been living here for a while, but had never come in to look around. Now, taking a closer look, he discovered that it was quite well-furnished.
Besides the desk, bookshelf, and bed, there was actually a multi-functional treadmill in the corner, a desktop computer and a laptop on the desk, and what seemed to be a storage room next to it. There were many strange things hanging on the wall, and one of the paintings in the middle looked quite familiar, Chen Ke Yao had specially shown it to him a while ago. The bookshelf was quite large, crammed full and densely packed, intimidating to look at.
Rong Yi swiveled around three hundred and sixty degrees in the armchair, finally stopping his gaze on the bathroom door.
Through the wooden door, he could faintly hear the sound of rushing water, forcing him to let his imagination run wild.
Rong Yi shook his head vigorously, feeling that this was really too terrible. He decided that he’d better go to the bathroom outside later to take a shower, otherwise, sitting here and hearing everything so clearly, if he opened the door after showering and saw Chen Ke Yao throwing up, he’d be furious.
Just as he was thinking this, the sound of water stopped.
Rong Yi quickly twisted his body to turn the chair away.
“I’m done,” Chen Ke Yao’s voice rang out at the same time as the door opened, “I just remembered, your change of clothes should all be in your room, right?”
“…Duh.”
“I have new ones, you can wear mine,” Chen Ke Yao said, walking to the side of the closet, “We’re about the same size, they should be the same size.”
Rong Yi quickly turned his head to take a look.
Damn it, how could this person be so neatly dressed after taking a shower. He couldn’t see anything he wanted to see, so was there any value in him staying in this room overnight while enduring humiliation?
Chen Ke Yao, completely unaware of his inner turmoil, took out a whole set of clothes from the closet and handed them over: “If you go in now, it’s still warm in there.”
Rong Yi glanced at him, then stood up: “I’m going to shower outside.”
He stood under the shower, quietly questioning his life.
It was too strange, he and Chen Ke Yao had been arguing ever since yesterday afternoon. Why had it developed into this after arguing?
However, although Chen Ke Yao had been childish throughout, insisting on bickering with him, it seemed like he was the only one who was seriously unhappy. That thick-skinned Alpha didn’t seem to take any of this to heart.
As a result, it seemed like Rong Yi, who was still dwelling on it, was the petty and childish one.
But regardless of whether he cared about the previous disputes between the two, he couldn’t accept staying overnight with Chen Ke Yao in a room with only one bed.
Rong Yi secretly thought as he turned off the shower, otherwise, he might as well go out and stay somewhere tomorrow night. Chen Ke Yao said that the rent for this month could be waived, so the cost of staying out for two days could completely offset it and still have some left over, so it wouldn’t be a loss.
Before returning to Chen Ke Yao’s room, Rong Yi deliberately took a detour.
He went to get a roll of black trash bags, and as soon as he entered the door, he threw it at Chen Ke Yao, who was holding a laptop.
“Why are you giving me this?” Chen Ke Yao asked, somewhat bewildered.
Rong Yi glanced at him: “If you feel uncomfortable, feel free to throw up.”
“…”
Chen Ke Yao was stunned for a moment, then, surprisingly, he blushed.
Since he had to go to work the next day, Rong Yi had to go to bed, whether he wanted to or not.
But after awkwardly lying down on Chen Ke Yao’s bed, he realized that they had both miscalculated something before.
Even if they had long-acting suppressants, it was impossible for things they came into contact with every day to have absolutely no residual pheromones. When Rong Yi leaned against the pillow and closed his eyes, facing away from Chen Ke Yao at the computer desk, he soon smelled a faint, ambiguous scent in the air.
The scent was very, very faint, not enough to affect his mind, but also impossible to completely ignore.
Rong Yi flipped the pillow over, but found that it didn’t help at all. So he simply got out of bed and walked out of the room.
When he returned to the room with a sofa cushion in his arms, Chen Ke Yao looked puzzled: “Isn’t one pillow enough for you?”
“I don’t like you.” Rong Yi said.
“…”
Chen Ke Yao didn’t say anything, just watched Rong Yi pitifully as he threw the pillow on a stool to the side, then closed his eyes again, using the cushion as a pillow.
A few more minutes passed, and Rong Yi, still wide awake, reopened his eyes: “You’re too noisy.”
“Ah?” Chen Ke Yao looked up somewhat blankly, “I didn’t make any noise, did I?”
“Keyboard.”
“Oh…” Chen Ke Yao thought for a moment, closed the laptop lid, and moved to the desktop computer on the side, “Then I won’t type. You keep sleeping.”
Rong Yi shrunk back into the blanket once again and closed his eyes.
But he still couldn’t fall asleep.
After tossing and turning a few times, he suddenly heard movement by the bed again. Chen Ke Yao seemed to have stood up, then he heard footsteps moving towards the door. He opened the door and walked out, then returned a moment later.
After his chair made creaking noises once again, Rong Yi heard the sound of a yogurt lid being torn open.
“…You’re so annoying.” Rong Yi mumbled softly with his eyes closed.
The author has something to say:
Ms. Lan returned to the room and opened the bedside table, finding a box of strawberry-flavored condoms that had been opened.
——
Um, some friends in the comments in the last two chapters had questions, suspecting that I had forgotten the setting of Rong Yi and Zhou Li pretending to be a couple.
I didn’t, it’s just that Zhou Li and Rong Yi often forget. Chen Ke Yao didn’t forget, so as soon as they started arguing, he immediately said, “Little Zhou, what do you think?” Unexpectedly, Zhou Li didn’t react at all.
Afterwards, Rong Yi enthusiastically watched Zhou Li and Liu Yuan’s idol drama, so Chen Ke Yao, who had been suspicious all along, asked them what their relationship was. I feel that the logic here is still very smooth.
Maybe it’s really easy to accidentally skip a plot point of one or two sentences…
But, don’t accuse me without reading carefully, it really makes me very depressed _(:з」∠)_
