Chapter 33: What If Your Parents Don’t Agree?

Chapter 33: What If Your Parents Don’t Agree?

After the two finished their midday meal, the boat sailed into the Pingqing Lake.

Jiang Jiuchu stood by the boat’s edge, gazing at the vast lake and the distant mountains, feeling as if she were in a fairyland. She couldn’t help but sigh, “It’s so beautiful!”

Song Fuge, however, turned his head to look at Jiang Jiuchu beside him, his eyes seeming to hold a galaxy of stars. “Yes, very beautiful.”

Jiang Jiuchu seemed to sense something different and turned her head, meeting Song Fuge’s gaze.

The spring breeze swept across the lake’s surface, creating layers of ripples. The golden sunlight scattered and reflected on their faces, as if the strings of their hearts were also stirring with ripples.

A little embarrassed, Jiang Jiuchu averted her gaze and pointed to the distant mountains, asking, “Brother Fu, beyond those mountains is Jade City?”

“Yes, beyond those mountains is Jade City. When we have the chance, I’ll take you to play there. Although it’s not as bustling as Kyoto, the scenery is like a fairyland mirror, surrounded by mountains and flowing water, with a kind of worldly atmosphere that feels isolated.”

“Brother Fu has been there?” Jiang Jiuchu found it very appealing. Compared to Kyoto’s prosperity, she preferred such places.

Song Fuge looked at the girl with sparkling eyes and nodded. “Yes, I’ve been there. Brother Fu has been to many places. If Jiuchu likes, Brother Fu will take you to travel the mountains and rivers in the future.”

“Really?” Jiang Jiuchu asked with a joyful expression. This was what she yearned for in her heart, never daring to think it could actually be realized.

After all, most women, once married, are occupied with supporting their husbands, educating their children, and managing the household. So, hearing Song Fuge’s words, she was a little incredulous.

“Of course, it’s true. Brother Fu has never lied to you, but…” Song Fuge looked at Jiang Jiuchu, a hint of worry seemingly appearing in his eyes.

“But what?” Jiang Jiuchu asked curiously, the joy that had risen instantly falling by half.

Song Fuge replied, “But, it has to be after Jiuchu marries me. But, what if your parents don’t agree?

“After all, I’m just a merchant, not a suitable match for you. I’m afraid your parents won’t agree so easily.”

Song Fuge spoke his worries from the bottom of his heart, looking fixedly at Jiang Jiuchu, not missing any expression on her face.

He wanted to know if her parents disagreed, would she immediately abandon him.

“No, they will agree. They don’t expect me to marry a prince or general, they only hope I can marry someone I like, someone who is good to me.”

Jiang Jiuchu was not at all worried about this, after all, her mother had already told her.

Song Fuge was a little surprised. He could tell that this little girl was spoiled, but he didn’t expect that her marriage would also be so much at her own discretion.

However, he was still a little worried, after all, the disparity was too great.

“Then what if your parents just don’t agree?”

Jiang Jiuchu knew Song Fuge’s concerns, but after all, Brother Fu was her savior. If it weren’t for Brother Fu, she wouldn’t be able to stand here properly now. Plus, her parents always respected her wishes, so how could they disagree?

She tilted her head and thought for a moment, then said, “Um… If they don’t agree, then I’ll just cry!”

“Haha…” Song Fuge chuckled and put his arm around Jiang Jiuchu, looking down at her, suppressing the urge to kiss her. He raised his hand and pinched her slightly flushed cheeks. “Brother Fu didn’t know you were such a crybaby.”

Being held like this, Jiang Jiuchu was terribly shy, but still retorted, “No, I’m not a crybaby. On the contrary, because I rarely cry, it’s effective when I do.”

“What a clever little imp, but… Brother Fu can’t bear to see you cry. If your parents don’t agree, Brother Fu will find a way to get their consent.”

“Okay,” Jiang Jiuchu responded, then immediately shyly stepped back from Song Fuge’s embrace, turned around, and pointed to the approaching mountains, asking, “Brother Fu, what kind of flowers are those on the mountain? They look so red!”

“Those are azaleas, do you like them? I’ll pick them for you.”

Jiang Jiuchu nodded. “I like them. I like all flowers.”

Hearing this, Song Fuge immediately called Leng Da, “Have the boatman row to the foot of the mountain ahead and moor the boat.”

“Yes,” Leng Da responded and stepped back.

Jiang Jiuchu was a little embarrassed, feeling that Brother Fu was so good to her, giving her paintings, giving her hidden weapons, and even going to pick flowers for her. Yet, she had nothing to give him.

She suddenly remembered that there was a *qin* in the tea room and said, “Brother Fu, let me play the *qin* for you!”

    “Jiuchu can play the *qin*?”

Song Fuge’s words made Jiang Jiuchu pause and reflect. Did she look nothing like a young lady from a wealthy family and more like a good-for-nothing spoiled girl?

Was it because she and Ji Shutíng opened a shop that gave Brother Fu that impression, or did she just look that way?

She asked a little uncertainly, “Brother Fu, do I look like I don’t know anything?”

“No,” Song Fuge realized he had said the wrong thing and quickly explained, “Brother Fu doesn’t know how himself and thinks playing the *qin* is very difficult, so he subconsciously assumes that others don’t know how either.”

Hearing this, Jiang Jiuchu smiled. “It’s okay, it’s good enough that Brother Fu can listen. I’ll play for you later. I know many songs.” As she spoke, she walked towards the tea room.

Before long, a melodious and graceful melody floated out, murmuring like a spring breeze and drizzle. Slowly, like the spring breeze gently sweeping the earth, bringing about the revival of all things, the tune also became cheerful, as if all things had their own language, full of vitality.

Although Song Fuge couldn’t play the *qin*, he could tell that her skill was superb, even better than the musicians he kept in Mo Feng Pavilion.

This tune seemed to be able to bring hope to those in despair, bring light to the darkness, sweep away the depression in one’s heart, and revive one’s life.

He quietly watched the girl in the tea room playing the *qin*. Her person, like the *qin*, made him yearn for her at first sight.

The cheerful ending gradually faded, Jiang Jiuchu got up and ran to Song Fuge, looking up at him with a small face, as if seeking praise. “Was it good? Brother Fu.”

She was very confident in her skills; even her sister-in-law praised her for her superb playing.

“It was good, very good. Jiuchu must play for me every day in the future, because after listening to Jiuchu’s music, I can’t listen to any other music anymore.”

Jiang Jiuchu smiled happily. “Brother Fu, you’re exaggerating too much!”

“Not exaggerating at all. I’ll only listen to Jiuchu’s music in the future.”

Song Fuge’s earnest and fervent gaze made Jiang Jiuchu very uncomfortable. She nodded, then looked at the mountain in front of her. “Brother Fu, we’re here.”

“Okay, then I’ll go pick them for you.” As Song Fuge spoke, he flew off the boat into the forest across the way.

Jiang Jiuchu watched the figure flying through the air, her eyes slightly curved. She suddenly felt so happy, so happy. She must have done a lot of good deeds in her previous life to have such loving family and Brother Fu.

Brother Fu would also take her to travel the mountains and rivers in the future. She would definitely be the happiest woman in the world.

Suddenly, a sound of water rang out, and a figure suddenly flew out of the lake, quickly landing in front of Jiang Jiuchu.
