Chapter Index

“Miss, does the Regent have feelings for you…?” Greenleaf didn’t expect that Shi Xiu’s current status would lead him to have such thoughts about her mistress.

Jiang Jiuchu retracted her gaze, picked up the teacup in front of her, and took a light sip, ignoring Greenleaf’s words, her eyes filled with thoughts.

“With the Regent’s current status and position, he should be looking for a noble lady from a more powerful family, yet he is so openly showing goodwill to you, Miss.”

Greenleaf thought that Shi Xiu must truly like her mistress, seemingly not minding that she had been divorced.

Jiang Jiuchu chuckled and said, “He is currently controlled by others, his wings haven’t fully grown. Seeking a highly ranked and influential noble lady would only reveal his ambition.”

“Oh.” Greenleaf understood upon hearing this. “Then, Miss…”

Before Greenleaf could finish speaking, Jiang Jiuche strode into the courtyard.

Jiang Jiuchu looked curiously at Jiang Jiuche as he approached, “Did you send them away so quickly?”

Jiang Jiuche sat down and said, “Yes, I ran into Father in the front yard. They were chatting, so I came back first.”

After speaking, he picked up the teacup in front of him and drank it all, then asked:

“Presumably, Jiuchu has already seen through the Regent’s intentions. How does Jiuchu plan to deal with his advances?”

Jiang Jiuchu lowered her eyes. She only knew that he had a slight liking for her before, but his invitation just now was not to be refused, “Brother, do you think I have room to refuse this goodwill?”

Jiang Jiuche shook his head upon hearing this. “Probably not.” Others may not know, but he was clear that he intended to force Shi Yan into a divorce.

“Probably? Then it’s not entirely certain.” She looked at her brother, “How about I try to test his bottom line?”

“How to test?” Although Jiang Jiuche knew that Shi Xiu was fully determined, it wouldn’t hurt to try.

Jiang Jiuchu explained her idea, “We can find someone to come to propose marriage. Then we’ll see if he interferes.”

“If he doesn’t interfere, then the marriage will be set, even if it’s just a marriage of convenience. If he interferes, then we’ll reject it swiftly, so as not to embarrass the proposer.”

Upon hearing this, Jiang Jiuche thought for a moment and found it feasible.

“This method is not bad, but the choice of person is a bit difficult? Which good man would be willing to put on this act with you? Who would dare to put on this act with you?”

Jiang Jiuchu fell into thought upon hearing this. The selection of a person was indeed a bit difficult.

After a moment of thought, she suddenly had an idea, “Money makes the world go round. Why not hire someone to act? Anyway, it’s just for show, so there’s no need to worry about low status. I can use the guise of a marriage proposal.”

Jiang Jiuche nodded, “Alright, then tomorrow, I’ll find a suitable person for you.”

“Mm.” Jiang Jiuchu responded softly, then looked at Jiang Jiuche, “Also, I don’t want to go to tomorrow’s appointment. I’ll go to Ning Yin Temple early tomorrow morning and stay there for two days. Then, Brother can say that I was plagued by nightmares last night, so I went to Ning Yin Temple to offer incense.”

“Okay.” Jiang Jiuche agreed. As long as there was a glimmer of hope, he was willing to work with his sister.

Leaving aside the fact that Shi Xiu was controlled by others, and marrying him would mean living cautiously, just the idea of divorcing his younger brother and marrying his older brother made him feel uncomfortable.

    The next day.

After finishing his work early, Shi Xiu dressed carefully and came to the Jiang residence as the sun was setting in the west.

In the front hall of the Jiang residence, Jiang Jiuche bowed apologetically to Shi Xiu, “I’m really sorry to have made the Regent come all this way for nothing. I only learned after getting off duty that my sister went to Ning Yin Temple early this morning.”

As he spoke, he pointed to a servant boy beside him, “I was just about to send someone to deliver a letter to you.”

Shi Xiu’s eyes drooped slightly. He originally thought that even if she didn’t like him, she wouldn’t hate him. He didn’t expect that even a simple invitation for a stroll would make her hide in Ning Yin Temple.

Seeing Shi Xiu remain silent, Jiang Jiuche, worried that he would be angry, explained, “Mother said that Jiuchu was disturbed by nightmares last night, so she felt uneasy. That’s why she went to Ning Yin Temple early this morning.”

“She probably forgot about your appointment yesterday, and my mother didn’t know about it, so she wasn’t able to send someone to inform you earlier.”

“It’s nothing.” Shi Xiu said concisely as he got up to leave. Although there was no anger on his face, he lacked his usual gentle expression.

Ning Yin Temple, Jiang Jiuchu, who had finished her dinner and was taking a walk in the temple, saw that the sky had completely darkened and was about to return to the guest room in the backyard with Mu Qing.

However, as she turned a corner on a small path, she suddenly collided with someone.

Mu Qing was quick-witted and agile, pulling Jiang Jiuchu away and pushing the person away.

“Cough cough…” The man in white clutched his chest and fell to the ground, unable to stop himself from spitting out a mouthful of blood.

Jiang Jiuchu and Mu Qing were shocked when they saw this, not understanding how pushing someone could make them this way.

Mu Qing looked at her hand and said to Jiang Jiuchu with a look of injustice, “Miss, I…I didn’t use much strength! How…how did he spit out blood?”

Jiang Jiuchu looked in shock at the man who was trying to get up and quickly instructed Mu Qing, “Hurry up and help him up.”

She thought that perhaps there was a stone under him, and he had just hit it somewhere.

“Oh.” Upon hearing this, Mu Qing quickly stepped forward. Just as she reached out to help the man in white, two streaks of cold light suddenly appeared behind her.

Mu Qing’s eyes changed, and she instantly drew the sword from her waist, her figure flashing quickly. She stabbed the sword at one of the rushing figures.

The pupils of the black-clad man who was stabbed instantly widened, and he fell straight to the ground, never expecting that a woman would have such martial arts skills.

Seeing this, the other black-clad man immediately engaged in a fight with Mu Qing.

Standing a few steps away from them, Jiang Jiuchu’s expression changed, and she quickly took a step back, quietly retreating behind a tree to the side.

Jiang Jiuchu looked at the two people fighting under the moonlight and then at the man in white who had finally staggered to his feet.

Only then did she understand why Mu Qing’s casual push had caused him to fall to the ground and spit out blood. It turned out that he was being hunted down by assassins and was already injured.

She glanced at the black-clad man who had been killed by Mu Qing’s sword and pursed her lips. It could be considered that this man in white was not destined to die.

After a few rounds, the other person also fell. Mu Qing, while sheathing her sword, hurriedly looked around, “Miss.”

“I’m here.” Jiang Jiuchu quickly walked out from behind the tree.

The man in white clutched his chest, looking pale as he looked at Jiang Jiuchu, who was walking out from behind the tree. Just as he was about to step forward to thank her, he suddenly stopped in his tracks after seeing Jiang Jiuchu walking out from under the shade of the tree.

Under the hazy moonlight, he seemed to see a fairy, so beautiful that she instantly took his breath away.

“Who are you? Why are they killing you?” Jiang Jiuchu stepped forward and walked up to the man in white and asked.

Upon hearing this, the man in white immediately regained his senses and banished the look of astonishment from his eyes. He bowed with an embarrassed expression and replied:

“My name is Sun Ce. The person who killed me may have been sent by my mother!” He did not hide anything, and there was not much heartache on his face, as if it was common practice.

“Mother?” Jiang Jiuchu and Mu Qing were both shocked upon hearing this. Which mother would assassinate her own child?

“Yes…” Sun Ce nodded. Just as he was about to speak, a sweet and fishy taste surged into his throat.

He couldn’t help but cough a few times, and blood instantly spilled from the corner of his mouth, his body swaying.
