Involuntary Symbiosis Chapter 12
byMr. Wang, I wish you good health
With Fu Yaren’s Pheromones, Wang Ling’s resistance to other people’s Pheromones had significantly increased. He felt his abilities as an alpha slowly recovering. Director Hu looked at his physical examination report and nodded, saying, “If you exchange Pheromones appropriately with your partner, your gland and overall physical condition have now returned to their previous levels.”
“Thank you, Doctor.” Wang Ling saw that Director Hu hadn’t prescribed any medication and assumed he could leave, but Director Hu stopped him. “There’s one more check-up. Don’t leave yet.” Although Wang Ling found it strange—all the necessary gland and hormone tests had been completed—he waited, adhering to the medical advice. Director Hu signaled the next male beta nurse and told Wang Ling, “Have the nurse take you for the examination.”
“Alright.” Wang Ling followed the male beta nurse to a private examination room, which was next to the omega ultrasound room. He walked in, where a male alpha doctor wearing glasses asked, “Are you Wang Ling?”
“Yes.” Wang Ling looked at a reclining chair. The male alpha turned on a large piece of equipment, and a green power light came on. He asked, “What is this?” The male nurse paused, then smiled and replied, “Director Hu must have forgotten to tell you. I thought you already knew.”
“We need to check the thickness and health of your reproductive cavity wall. Previously, your treatment focused mainly on hormones and glands. Now that your hormone levels are stable, we need to examine your reproductive cavity.” After the nurse finished speaking, Wang Ling, despite handling countless complex situations, was stunned to hear that he possessed a reproductive cavity. He said uncertainly, “What? I’m an alpha…”
“Didn’t you receive a lifelong Marking with your enigma partner?” The male nurse didn’t know Wang Ling’s situation as well as Director Hu, and was simply confused why Mr. Wang’s enigma partner hadn’t informed him.
After careful consideration, this was a reputable major hospital, and for the sake of his health, Wang Ling lay down on the chair. The cold instrument covered his lower abdomen. He glanced at the screen on the device. Although he hadn’t studied medicine, he clearly saw a cavity displayed.
“This machine is very expensive and usually not needed. I didn’t expect to actually encounter an alpha with an enigma partner,” the male nurse commented from the side.
The cold instrument rubbed against his lower abdomen, and the probe sank into his belly. He could only endure it. He closed his eyes, not responding to the male nurse.
“The reproductive cavity is very elastic and healthy, integrating well with your body. Its internal tissues provide instructions for gland repair and other functions. This is why your gland and hormone recovery was so fast. Exchange Pheromones more often with your partner…” Director Hu was explaining the results, but Wang Ling couldn’t hear what Director Hu said next. He just kept staring at his ultrasound report.
When Director Hu finished, her expression remained largely unchanged. Wang Ling replied, “Okay, I understand.” The female beta Director Hu observed Wang Ling’s expression. As a woman, she keenly sensed the patient’s emotional shift. She said, “If you are feeling distressed, our open psychological department is at the end of the hall, left turn on the third floor. You can go there.”
Wang Ling forced a smile and politely said, “Thank you, Doctor. I still have work.”
After leaving the hospital, Wang Ling returned to work. Chen Yusu placed documents on Wang Ling’s desk. Seeing that Wang Ling looked unwell, he didn’t dare to say much. He gave a look to Qian Xi, who was nearby, but Qian Xi shook her head. Wang Ling noticed their eye contact and looked at Qian Xi. Qian Xi met his gaze, then quickly pulled her head back. Wang Ling looked at Chen Yusu and asked in the exact tone of a twenty-year veteran homeroom teacher, “What is it?”
“N-nothing… nothing at all,” Chen Yusu shook his head repeatedly and quickly left. Qian Xi breathed a sigh of relief. She messaged the assistant group chat: “Oh my god, I was terrified. I saw Secretary Wang looking like that and asked Yusu, and Secretary Wang just shot me a look. It scared me into silence.”
“I don’t know. It’s the first time I’ve seen Secretary Wang make that expression,” Chen Yusu replied.
“How would you describe it?” asked the assistant who liaised with the Procurement Department.
“I don’t know how to describe it. A feeling of sadness mixed with reluctant acceptance,” Chen Yusu said.
“He didn’t get cancer, did he? He always works himself to death and goes to the hospital frequently. Didn’t he look terrible a while ago? President Nan even hired Ila, and Ila has taken over a lot of Secretary Wang’s work,” speculated the assistant who liaised with the Production Department.
“No way…” Qian Xi was a little unconvinced. Although Wang Ling always caught her slacking off and directly questioned her when he found something she did wrong, which was terrifying, she still thought it was better for Secretary Wang to be healthy. He was just strict about work, not a bad person.
Qian Xi thought for a long time. She stayed late, unlike before when she was always the first to leave. She saw Wang Ling still working. She sat at her workstation. Xiaohui was already packing up her things. Carrying her canvas bag, she asked Qian Xi, “Aren’t you leaving yet?”
“I…” Qian Xi glanced at Wang Ling, then back at Xiaohui, and said, “I think I’ll finish up some work for tomorrow.” Xiaohui noticed her gaze but didn’t comment directly. She smiled and said, “It’s rare for you to leave so late.” Qian Xi smiled back. After waving Xiaohui off, she looked at Wang Ling. Wang Ling was still working, diligently completing the tasks he had missed during the day. He noticed Qian Xi slowly walking toward him and couldn’t help but feel puzzled—wasn’t Qian Xi always the first one to rush out the door?
“Um… Secretary Wang.” Qian Xi lowered her head, nervously rubbing the corner of her shirt, before finally speaking, “How is your health?”
“What about it?” Wang Ling asked.
“I…” Qian Xi hesitated, then took a deep breath and firmly told Wang Ling, “Secretary Wang, I wish you always good health.”
Wang Ling looked at her, dressed in the white assistant uniform shirt. Although she wore it properly, her hair was always messy, and there were some oil stains on her shirt. In her words: “It’s just work, no outsiders are looking anyway.”
Although he didn’t know what Qian Xi was thinking, he smiled and said, “Thank you.”
Hearing this, Qian Xi beamed happily. Carrying her dark green backpack, she looked more like a child than Wang Ling, despite being older than him. She ran off, smiling as she said, “Okay, Secretary Wang, see you tomorrow!”
“Alright.” Wang Ling smiled, watching Qian Xi’s sprinting back, likely rushing to catch the last bus.
