Chapter 5: Materials

The cop was a good cop, even when captured, he remained righteous and unafraid of oppression. Perhaps his vocal cords were damaged, rendering him speechless, but his eyes were filled with justice and rage. An ordinary person would be intimidated by his gaze, feeling a pang of conscience.

Ten-year-old Shu Xiu was still a child, his hand holding the knife trembled under the judging gaze of those righteous eyes. He gritted his teeth, his eyes filled with panic as he stubbornly returned the stare, never blinking, tears welling up but never falling.

Lu Qinyuan urged from behind, unhurriedly, “Do it.”

Shu Xiu gritted his teeth and took a step forward, slowly placing the tip of the knife against the cop’s chest, as if he couldn’t muster any strength. The knife slowly but surely pierced the cop’s heart, inch by inch, until only the hilt was visible. Shu Xiu’s wide eyes met the cop’s unclosed eyes until his death. His hands gripping the hilt were icy and trembling, his whole body shaking slightly.

Lu Qinyuan stopped turning the pages of his book, intently watching the expression on Shu Xiu’s face, and slowly issued the final order, “Pull it out.”

Although his hands were trembling, Shu Xiu’s grip on the knife hilt showed no sign of loosening. He began to try to pull it out little by little, using very little force, gasping for breath with each small movement. When the knife was completely pulled out, blood spurted out, splattering on Shu Xiu’s face. He fell to the ground, forgetting how to cry, blankly reacting for a moment before getting up and running away, stumbling and crawling, retching against the wall.

The first time is a threshold, the second time is exploration, the third time is savoring. Then slowly getting used to the taste of blood, becoming addicted.

Shu Xiu had keen intuition, quick reactions, and his movements were honed in actual combat, ruthless and experienced, without any hesitation. With a raise of his hand, a life was taken silently and effortlessly. He easily brought Lu Qinyuan to the place agreed upon with Zhu Yan. After Lu Qinyuan got into the car and sat down, he didn’t forget to turn back and reap two more lives.

As soon as Shu Xiu got in, the car started instantly. Zhu Yan’s driving skills were superb, and he had that ruthless energy. No matter who was blocking the way, he showed no mercy and drove straight through, leaving life and death to fate.

From beginning to end, Lu Qinyuan steadily held Xiao Qi, calmly watching his subordinates risk their lives for him, his expression unchanged. Shu Xiu’s eyes were full of fervent fighting spirit, one hand gripping a gun, occasionally extending it out of the car window for bursts of shooting. After a burst of shooting, a puff of smoke came out of the barrel. Zhu Yan laughed heartily and used Shu Xiu’s suppressive fire to create distance.

Shu Xiu touched the gun barrel, which was scalding hot, but the pursuers behind were still persistent, sticking to them like leeches. Shu Xiu’s delicately furrowed brows were tinged with impatience. He reached out to open the car door to fight back, but Lu Qinyuan stopped him, “Don’t open the door, sit still.”

The car had just entered the overpass, and should have received a death order. From the rearview mirror, they still saw the tenacious pursuers behind, squeezing the other cars to the side in a frantic chase.

Zhu Yan sat upright in the driver’s seat, as if he were driving a tank, his face tense, his hands on the steering wheel always steady, quickly and skillfully turning the steering wheel back and forth, driving in an S-shape to prevent the pursuers from overtaking.

Suddenly, Zhu Yan shouted, “Hold on tight!”

After a jolt, the car rushed off the overpass, without changing direction, directly crashing into the roadside forest. As it came down, the car speed did not decrease, and after turning a corner and driving for a while, a not-so-wide asphalt road appeared in front of them.

Zhu Yan turned his head and smiled triumphantly, “We’re safe.”

Shu Xiu gave Zhu Yan a thumbs up, and also breathed a sigh of relief. A sense of exhaustion suddenly surged up, he rubbed his eyes and closed them to rest, the dark shadows under his eyes seemed to have deepened slightly.

The car quieted down, and Zhu Yan played a soft song, which echoed gently in the limited space. The gentle song, like clean holy water, washed away the filth of the soul, soothing the bloody restlessness in his heart, and making people relax. Shu Xiu even sighed comfortably, his head tilted to one side, quietly watching the cars and trees going backwards outside the window. Like life, once you take a step forward, you can’t take it back even if you regret it.

“Brother, are you serious?” Although he knew it wasn’t the right time to ask this question, the way Lu Qinyuan looked at Xiao Qi made Shu Xiu very worried.

Lu Qinyuan reached out and brushed away the long hair that was blocking Xiao Qi’s forehead, his slender fingertips tracing Xiao Qi’s eyebrows and eyes. He smiled slightly, playfully saying, “It’s just a game. If you’re serious, you’ll have more fun, just like Lu Qinghuang, who would give up his life to play. I also want to try that feeling.”

Hearing Lu Qinyuan’s words, Shu Xiu’s heart instead rose up. Being serious meant giving, and Xiao Qi was like a poisonous flower, not only beautiful in appearance and highly toxic, but also very seductive, naturally possessing the potential of a killer. He could not tolerate anyone hurting his respected brother. If anyone did anything to hurt his brother, then no matter whether that person was someone his brother liked, he would kill that person, even if it meant sacrificing himself.

Unconsciously, Shu Xiu’s gaze towards Xiao Qi became sharp. As long as his brother was not hurt, he was willing to accept any sacrifice.

A “gurgle” sound was unusually clear in the quiet space. Xiao Qi’s eyelashes trembled as if he was about to wake up. Lu Qinyuan looked down at him, curved his index finger, and scraped his nose, “Open your eyes and see how much trouble you’ve caused. I don’t know how many people died because of you.”

Xiao Qi rubbed his eyes and sat up, waking up for a while, silently turning his head to the side. The bloody smell filling the space made him frown. His hand was stained with blood from somewhere, like an ugly cursed birthmark. He looked at it for a long time, as if he tasted the metallic taste spreading in his mouth. He looked out the window and said in a low voice, “I can’t wear this hat.” Lu Qinyuan smiled and said nothing, pulling out a tissue to wipe the blood on his hand.

As soon as they returned to their residence, Qi Yue rushed over with a medical kit, incessantly scolding Lu Qinyuan, “As a wounded person, you went out to play gunfights without my permission! Luckily, Xiu Xiu was with you. If Shu Xiu wasn’t with you, how would I explain it to him when he wakes up? He went out lively and kicking, and came back covered in blood and gore! Not to mention Xiu Xiu can’t stand it, I can’t stand it either! Now, you had fun, your wound burst. How little do you value yourself…”

When Shu Xiu saw Qi Yue, he felt relieved and went straight back to his room to sleep. Sometimes, he worried that he would be overly worried to death because of Lu Qinyuan’s reckless behavior regardless of the situation.

Although Qi Yue had a lot to say, his hands moved quickly. In the middle of his scolding, he had already disinfected and changed the dressing, slapping Lu Qinyuan’s wound, “Raise your hand.”

Lu Qinyuan didn’t feel any pain. He knew that Dr. Qi was angry, so he obediently raised his hand and watched Qi Yue wrap the bandage around his waist wound, tightly, and said before Qi Yue could open his mouth, “I saw Addict Phoenix today, with Lu Jianwei, he seemed quite carefree.”

Staying by Black Wolf’s side for a long time, one will be given a name even if one doesn’t have one. Lu Qingshuang has the face of a phoenix, and he is an addict. Someone muttered, “Addict Phoenix,” and the name stuck. But most people were unconvinced, and in front of Lu Qingshuang, they would twist the tone of the “addict” part, and behind his back, they would raise the tone. Rather than a nickname, it was a complete humiliation.

Qi Yue seemed to be in a bad mood, but when Lu Qingshuang was mentioned, he felt a little sorry for this kid, “An addict, if he keeps using like this, he’ll die on his own without anyone doing anything. Why bother fussing so much.” He shook his head helplessly, “Who can understand Black Wolf’s thoughts? He’s truly a model for ruining his sons, that old man.”

Lu Qinyuan hummed, and loudly ordered someone to prepare food.

After tying the bandage, he took two anti-inflammatory pills and had Lu Qinyuan swallow them. Qi Yue packed his things and stood up, sighing repeatedly. It was a pity that Lu Qingshuang was born in the wrong stomach, otherwise, why would he suffer so much? He took a disinfected cotton swab and iodine and walked behind Xiao Qi, holding Xiao Qi’s forehead to make him lean back on the back of the chair.

Xiao Qi sat on the single sofa next to him as soon as he came in, holding the book he dropped this morning and reading it. He was obviously very hungry, and his forehead wound was not treated, but he didn’t care at all. Xiao Qi didn’t seem to refuse, tilting his head, his eyes calmly looking at Qi Yue’s serious face, who was completely different from the unreliable Qi Yue he had seen at first.

Xiao Qi only bumped his forehead, the wound was not big. After disinfecting and applying a band-aid, Qi Yue said, “Don’t touch the water, it will be fine after it scabs.” He lowered his head and met Xiao Qi’s eyes. Qi Yue couldn’t help but sigh, no matter how many times he looked into those eyes, he could be conquered by the beauty of the different emotions in those eyes. He couldn’t help but sigh again.

“Today you’re possessed by the spirit of Lin Daiyu, tell me, what’s wrong?” Lu Qinyuan beckoned Xiao Qi to come over. After Xiao Qi came over, he took the book from his hand, patted his hand and said, “Go eat.” Xiao Qi hummed and walked towards the dining room.

Qi Yue sighed, “Rumor has it, the medical genius Si Chengwan has gone crazy.”

Lu Qinyuan chuckled, “Rumor? Go find someone to verify it first, and then it won’t be too late to mourn for your idol.”

“I didn’t believe it at first,” Qi Yue said weakly, “I investigated a little, and the rumor came from Si Cheng’s family, supposedly something valuable research material was lost.”

Lu Qinyuan’s heart stirred, something was lost? He quickly overturned his guess, but still retained the question, “Have you found out what material was lost? It must be very precious if it could drive Si Chengwan crazy.”

Qi Yue shook his head, “I can’t find out. They are more secretive about the material than the fact that Si Chengwan is crazy. I guess that material is for personal research that can’t be shown, otherwise, there would be no need to be so secretive. Hey, when did you become interested in this kind of thing?”

Lu Qinyuan said casually, “Just curious, I’m very free lately.” Seeing that Qi Yue still had a depressed look on his face, obviously wanting something but not getting it, he smiled unkindly, “Min Jia locked you out again? I really feel sorry for Min Jia, how did he end up with a beast like you who only cares about his lower body.”

Qi Yue had a strong sexual appetite, and every time he got Min Jia into bed, he would toss him like he was making up for a lifetime’s worth. Everyone felt that Min Jia really loved Qi Yue to death if he could endure until now and still be with Qi Yue.

As soon as Min Jia was mentioned, Qi Yue looked like a little wife who had been abandoned, his eyes resentful, “Jia Jia said he was rushing to finish a project and told me not to bother him.”

Qi Yue also had this advantage, he respected Min Jia’s work, and for Min Jia’s work, he could temporarily give up his sexual happiness, of course, these would all have to be compensated for later, on the happiness, Qi Yue completely achieved only taking advantage and not suffering losses.

Lu Qinyuan smiled, “Very good, let him come over to play for a couple of days when Min Jia is done. I haven’t seen him for a long time.”
