Black Magic Rose Chapter 19
byChapter 19: Curse Transfer
The golden light seeping through the crack in the door was almost tangible, illuminating the entire hallway as if it were midday. The holy and magnificent energy fluctuation, carrying undeniable majesty and wrath, seemed to freeze the air. Several men in black were startled by this sudden change and retreated repeatedly, their eyes filled with terror and disbelief.
“This… is this Young Master’s power?” The voice of the leading man in black trembled, and the light from the runic weapon in his hand dimmed slightly. The order they received was to probe and control the suspicious Shu Yijin; they never expected to provoke such a violent reaction from the dormant Wen Jingheng!
Shu Yijin leaned against the door, his crimson eyes equally filled with shock. The wound on his shoulder was still oozing black blood, and the sharp pain in his back came in waves, but at this moment, his entire focus was drawn to the familiar yet strange power behind the door.
Wen Jingheng… was protecting him?
This realization made Shu Yijin’s heart skip a beat. Although the holy energy was fundamentally incompatible with his nature, the wrath contained within it was so clear—it was anger directed at those who harmed him. This feeling of being protected was unsettlingly foreign to an Ancient Existence like him.
However, this burst of power was not a good sign. Wen Jingheng was clearly not fully awake; this was merely his subconscious, instinctive reaction to sensing extreme danger. Forcibly activating sealed power like this would not only accelerate the consumption of his life force but also alarm the entire Wen Family, and even the forces that had been secretly observing them!
He had to stop it immediately!
Shu Yijin forcefully suppressed the churning in his blood, a look of determination flashing in his eyes. His original plan was to gradually dismantle the Seal, but the current situation demanded a risky move!
“Get out!” he coldly shouted at the men in black. The black mist around him surged again, releasing the Evil God’s pressure without reservation, forming a bizarre standoff with the holy light behind the door.
The men in black were forced back by the dual pressure, finally daring not to linger, and disappeared miserably down the hallway.
After confirming the threat was temporarily neutralized, Shu Yijin immediately turned and pushed the door open. Inside the room, the golden mark on Wen Jingheng’s brow was still flickering, but the light was not as intense as before. His face was paper-white, and his breathing was shallow; the recent power burst had clearly taken a heavy toll on him.
“Foolish…” Shu Yijin muttered under his breath, but his movements were exceptionally gentle. He quickly walked to the bedside, gathering a wisp of pure black energy on his fingertip, and lightly aimed it at Wen Jingheng’s brow.
Just as the two energies were about to meet, a sudden change occurred!
The holy energy that had been activated within Wen Jingheng seemed to sense Shu Yijin’s proximity. Instead of repelling him, it actively wrapped around the black energy as if finding its destination! At the same time, Shu Yijin clearly felt the powerful Curse that had been confining Wen Jingheng’s soul begin to transfer into his body along this energy connection!
“What?!” Shu Yijin’s expression drastically changed. This was completely unexpected! Curse Transfer required extremely stringent conditions, unless… unless Wen Jingheng’s subconscious held no guard against him, or even… was willing?
This thought shook Shu Yijin to his core, and the speed of the Curse Transfer accelerated. It was an intensely cold power, like a maggot in the bone, causing even his Evil God Essence to feel a stinging pain wherever it passed. In contrast, the golden mark on Wen Jingheng’s brow gradually dimmed, and his breathing slowly stabilized.
“Stop… stop now!” Shu Yijin tried to sever the connection, but found it was too late. The Curse poured into his body like a breached dam. Simultaneously, the Black Rose mark on his chest burned hot, resonating strongly with the faint mark on Wen Jingheng’s chest.
The moment the Curse Transfer was mostly complete, Shu Yijin felt the Seal within his body emit a crisp cracking sound! The shackles of power that had been confining him had developed a massive breach due to the impact of this transferred Curse!
Power surged back into his limbs like a tide. The long-lost sense of control made him want to let out a primal roar. But this was immediately followed by the intense pain and weakness brought by the Curse. The two forces violently clashed inside him, causing his vision to swim.
On the bed, Wen Jingheng’s eyelids trembled violently after the Curse was transferred, as if he might open his eyes at any moment.
No! He couldn’t wake up yet!
Shu Yijin gritted his teeth, using the partial power he had just recovered to forcibly suppress the signs of Wen Jingheng’s awakening, while quickly repairing the chaotic energy field in the room caused by the recent conflict. After completing all this, he was drenched in sweat and nearly collapsed from exhaustion.
Just then, hurried footsteps and clamor sounded outside the door. Clearly, the other members of the Wen Family had been alerted by the commotion.
Shu Yijin took a deep breath and forced himself to stand straight. He glanced at the peacefully breathing Wen Jingheng on the bed, then felt the newly acquired Curse and the loosened Seal within his body. A complex light flashed in his eyes.
The plan was completely disrupted, but… it didn’t seem entirely bad.
When the Wen Family members rushed into the room, they saw this scene: Shu Yijin, pale-faced, standing guard by the bed, with a wound on his shoulder and bloodstains on his clothes, but his gaze was unusually resolute. And Wen Jingheng on the bed, though still unconscious, had a much rosier complexion than before, as if merely deep in sleep.
“What happened?” a Wen Family Elder demanded sharply.
Shu Yijin raised his eyes, his crimson gaze showing a perfectly measured mix of lingering fear and determination: “An assassin infiltrated just now, trying to harm Jingheng. I fought desperately to stop them. Fortunately… Jingheng seemed to sense the danger and unleashed his power, driving them away.”
He omitted the truth of the Curse Transfer, explaining Wen Jingheng’s power burst as a reaction to the assassin. This explanation was plausible, accounting for the earlier commotion while providing a reason for Wen Jingheng’s “improvement.”
The Wen Family members were skeptical but, upon inspection, found that Wen Jingheng’s condition had indeed improved, and Shu Yijin’s injuries were genuine. They had no choice but to temporarily accept this explanation.
After the crowd dispersed, Shu Yijin sat alone by the bed, looking at Wen Jingheng’s sleeping face, feeling lost for the first time.
The loosening of the Seal brought by the Curse Transfer was what he desired, but this method… and Wen Jingheng’s subconscious protection, made his previously clear plan become muddled.
He gently stroked Wen Jingheng’s cheek, feeling the warm touch beneath his fingertips, and murmured softly:
“Wen Jingheng, what kind of person… are you, exactly?”
And the sleeping Wen Jingheng, as if hearing the question, curved his lips into the slightest of smiles.
