    Chapter 35: Samuel’s Sin

Samuel was already conspicuous due to his lineage as the grandson of the hero William Robertson and his beautiful, almost feminine features. Until then, the Bawa Roma teachings had the image of a small, occult, secretive, and closed group.

With Samuel’s addition, a bright, popular atmosphere emerged. Many women were simply mesmerized just by Samuel standing on the platform. When he performed miracle-like feats, the masses were amazed and believed in the power of the Bawa Roma teachings. It was something that could be called magic, but everyone in the audience believed it was a miracle.

He succeeded in converting many people as a figurehead for the teachings, and most of them were women.

Salomé was also one of those who admired Samuel and joined. She was a commoner’s daughter, a fair-skinned maiden with striking eyes. To her, innocent and naive, Samuel was like an idol.

Samuel was also attracted to her, and it didn’t take long for them to fall in love and become intimate.

One day, Samuel heard Salomé’s confession in the confessional.

    “Lord Samuel, I am pregnant.”

    “Huh, what!”

He was surprised by this confession. The mission he had received from the executives was to gather many female believers and make the teachings widely known.

Becoming close to beautiful women was permitted.

However, Salomé’s pregnancy put him in a delicate position.

The teachings were tolerant of sex, but they demanded that contraception be practiced thoroughly.

“You can have sex, but don’t get anyone pregnant.” That was what the executives had said.

The executive men were required to ejaculate outside the woman’s body. Controlling ejaculation calmly from a state of extreme joy could be said to be extremely difficult. Therefore, it was regarded as a form of training.

    And, he had failed.

Making children within the teachings was only allowed between those who were approved.

Otherwise, having children was not allowed, and when a mistake occurred and someone became pregnant, the unspoken rule was to secretly have an abortion.

“Abort the child,” he said without thinking.

Salomé’s face twisted. She had surely thought he would be pleased.

But she never imagined she would be told not to give birth.

Stunned by the unexpected words, she couldn’t believe them and became absent-minded.

When she came to, she was outside the church, as if she had been driven out.

Samuel was immature in dealing with women. If he had had a little more experience, he would have tried to hold her back with sweet words.

His blunt words not only hurt her but also left deep scars on his future.

“If I talk to my parents, they’ll be angry. What should I do?” As she walked aimlessly, a bridge came into view.

(If I jump from here, will I die?) While thinking such things, she stood at the foot of the bridge.

“Hey, what’s wrong?” A vegetable seller called out to her.

“You’ve been walking back and forth across the bridge for a while now, and now you’re just standing there. Do you have something on your mind?

If you like, confide in me.” The woman’s tanned face smiled broadly.

“No, no, I’m fine,” Salomé hurriedly denied.

The woman always sold vegetables on a sheet near the bridge.

Her years of experience had made her notice that Salomé’s behavior was strange, so she called out to her.

That woman’s call saved the girl and the unborn life.

    Salomé fled home.

“Idiot! I’ve never seen such an immoral daughter as you!”

As expected, her father was furious.

He was filled with regret and anger that his cherished daughter had been deceived by an unknown man and had a swollen belly.

    “Forget about that man!”

The father shouted at his daughter, who tearfully explained the situation.

But the father never told her to abort the child.

Salomé gave birth to a child safely. It was a boy.

“Mom, give me the baby soon.”

“No, you were just holding him a little while ago.”

When their grandchild was born, the father and mother fought over him, always unfolding in front of Salomé.

Watching such a scene, she realized that she was truly glad she hadn’t died back then.

However, Salomé felt uneasy about continuing this life.

Her father was a tailor, and her mother helped him.

Salomé had been helping with the housework since she was little, and she knew the family’s financial situation. It was all they could do to make a living for a family of three.

Before she became pregnant, she had worked at a nearby inn to supplement the family income. But that inn had closed.

Not only the inn, but the economy in the capital was bad, and there were no shops that were hiring new people.

If she were a man, there would be demand for physical labor such as unloading cargo and manual labor, but there were no jobs for women.

“I can’t keep causing my parents trouble forever.”

Even though they are healthy now, her parents are close to being considered elderly.

If I don’t earn money, the family will not be able to make ends meet.

And then, she learned that Toriholi Village was booming with development and was recruiting workers.

The lord there is Lord Samuel’s parents. I want to meet him right away and at least talk about the situation.

Salomé decided to go to work away from home.
