    Chapter 1 Transmigration

“Xiao Wen, this proposal is truly outstanding!”

Department Manager Zhang Chi’s voice carried undisguised praise. He gently closed the file folder, his gaze resting on the young man standing before his desk.

“Regarding the Full-time Quota for this batch of Interns, I will prioritize you. However…” His tone shifted slightly, revealing a troubled expression, “I still have an urgent case from Headquarters and a pile of documents to sort through. I really can’t spare the time, so your full-time application process might have to be delayed by a few days…”

“Manager, I’ll help you sort them out!”

Xu Wen quickly agreed before the manager could finish speaking.

Manager Zhang looked up, satisfied, at the slightly bowed young man before him. He rose from his large office chair and walked over to the youth, patting Xu Wen’s somewhat thin shoulder heavily.

“Xiao Wen, among this batch of Interns, you are the one I think most highly of. You have ideas and you’re willing to work hard. I’ll submit your name today,” Manager Zhang said with a beaming smile.

Xu Wen took the files with both hands, looking at his superior, whose face was oily but who was trying hard to look kind. He felt a mix of emotions, but also a genuine, small thrill of joy.

    Full-time.

These two words were like a reassurance to him. He remembered starting out as an Orphan from a remote small city, relying on various national welfare subsidies, struggling alone through countless difficulties, and finally getting into a famous 211 university.

After graduation, he fought tooth and nail submitting résumés, passing numerous hurdles, and finally securing an internship at this considerably large company.

It had been six months, and now he finally saw the dawn of becoming full-time!

Xu Wen felt he had successfully taken a huge step toward the happy life he yearned for! His life goal was to have a happy and harmonious little family, a gentle and considerate wife, and a lively child.

Every day after work, he would open the door to a house full of light, with steaming hot food on the table. His wife would softly say, “You worked hard,” and his child would loudly shout, “Daddy, hurry up and come here!”

Xu Wen abruptly shook his head, dispelling the beautiful fantasy in his mind. He then put on a fawning smile, complimented Manager Zhang a few times, and quickly walked out of the office with a surge of enthusiasm, returning to his cramped cubicle.

He grabbed the extra-large Iced Americano on his desk and took a huge gulp. The icy bitterness instantly shot down his throat, giving him a jolt of energy.

“For Domestic Bliss, I’ll give it my all!”

Time quietly slipped away with the tapping of keys, until a painful protest started rumbling in his stomach. Xu Wen was startled out of his engrossed work. He picked up his phone, and the time on the screen was clearly displayed. Xu Wen rubbed his dry eyes, shifting his gaze from the dense spreadsheets on the computer screen to look around.

In the brightly lit, pale office area, nearly half of his colleagues were still there, like statues nailed to their desks, the sound of keyboards tapping rising and falling.

“They’re really pushing themselves too hard…” he sighed internally. An irresistible hunger churned violently, issuing a clear protest.

No, he needed to replenish his energy. Otherwise, forget the reports, he wouldn’t even be able to walk home.

He made up his mind to quickly run down to the convenience store downstairs, buy some instant noodles, and soothe his restless stomach. He braced his hands on the desk, trying to leverage himself up—

However, the moment he stood up, a massive, high-pitched ringing, like the rapid vibration of metal, exploded without warning, instantly robbing him of all hearing!

The scene before his eyes began to move upward uncontrollably and strangely, as if the entire world had been flipped upside down by an invisible hand.

“Strange…” His muddled brain struggled to function, like a rusty gear, “I clearly… hadn’t fully stood up yet…”

This was the last vague and absurd thought he had before his consciousness was swallowed by darkness.

    Buzz!!

“Ah ah ah ah ah ah!!”

    “Someone fainted!”

“Xu Wen?! Xu Wen, are you alright?!”

    “Call an ambulance! An ambulance!!…”

The panicked screams of the female Intern at the next cubicle, the chaotic footsteps, the sound of chairs dragging, and anxious shouts came through as if filtered by a curtain of water. Xu Wen felt someone shaking him.

All his senses were rapidly leaving him. His eyelids felt heavy as lead, and he couldn’t open them no matter what.

    So sleepy…..

His vision gradually blurred, finally plunging into darkness…

Ding! Detecting a Soul Fluctuation with a strong desire for survival that meets the standard. System binding in progress!

A stiff, mechanical voice pierced Xu Wen’s muddled brain.

    He abruptly opened his eyes.

The first sensation was a headache; a dull, hangover-like ache was lodged in his temples. He stared blankly upwards, his eyes meeting a strange, yellowish ceiling stained by dampness.

He turned his somewhat stiff neck, his gaze sweeping across the small, simple room. It was about the same size as his rental room in Bei City, but emptier. On an old table lay several scattered empty beer cans and a leftover bowl of instant noodles, emitting a sour, overnight stench.

Wasn’t he working overtime at the company?

    Where was this?

The unfamiliar room, mixed with the smell of alcohol and the stuffy odor of a place that hadn’t been ventilated for a long time, assaulted Xu Wen’s nose. He subconsciously looked down at himself—

He was wearing a bright yellow short-sleeved work uniform printed with the logo of a certain food delivery platform. And a pair of hands with distinct joints, but darkened by the sun.

Detecting Host consciousness awakening, the Villain Redemption System is officially activated! The cold mechanical voice sounded again, and Xu Wen realized that what he had just heard was not a hallucination.

What the hell? Did he die from overwork?

Yes, Host. The emotionless mechanical electronic voice replied.

“What the c, how can you talk to me inside my head?!” Xu Wen shouted, slightly terrified.

Host, you have been confirmed to have died from overwork in your original world. The Main Brain sensed your strong desire for survival and specifically matched you with a new life carrier, Transmitting you to the Novel Derivative Plane, The CEO’s Contract Sweetheart: Mommy Running Away with the Baby. The sole survival mission is now issued: Redeem the target character of this world—the disgraced villain, Lu Qingrang.

Xu Wen’s emotions went from confusion to collapse. Listening to the System’s cold broadcast, he felt despair. He had struggled and worked hard for over twenty years, going from an Orphan to a graduate of a prestigious school. He was about to establish roots in Bei City, with his full-time position imminent…

The “Domestic Bliss” life he had envisioned countless times—that faint light that had supported him for so long—was extinguished just like that.

“It’s all gone… it’s all gone…” he muttered, his voice trembling with despair, “I still have fifty-three thousand eight hundred and fifty-four yuan and three cents in my bank account! My job that was about to become full-time!! I even had a blind date scheduled for the weekend!!”

His mind was a mess, and he could barely hear what the System was saying next.

Detecting intense emotional fluctuation in the Host. Exclusive mission rewards will now be broadcast. Upon successful completion of the mission, you will be rewarded with ten million units of legal currency in this world. The System will unbind, and you may live freely in this world. If the mission fails (redemption is not achieved within three years or the target dies prematurely), the Host’s soul will be instantly erased.
