SCWP Chapter 21
by VolareMeng Yu
Meng Yu
“What’s your name?” Lin Qichi’s brows and eyes held a mischievous smile, the corners of his mouth slightly raised, but it seemed very fake, as if mocking himself.
He seemed… to have hugged the wrong person…
The little ghost looked at Lin Qichi strangely, but still answered him: “Meng Yu.”
To start with a good morning kiss, isn’t that too fast? Is this person… like this with everyone?
“What?” Lin Qichi seemed not to believe his ears, and asked again, “What’s your name?”
That shouldn’t be, he didn’t switch hands when he brought him back.
“Meng Yu.” The little ghost huddled by the bedside, one hand tightly grasping the quilt, the other supporting himself on the quilt, half sitting up, all the while staring at Lin Qichi with a guarded expression.
Lin Qichi had just reached out, wanting to check where exactly the problem was, when the phone beside the pillow suddenly rang.
Lin Qichi grabbed the little ghost with one hand and reached for his phone with the other.
It was Wen Ren Shu calling, and as soon as he swiped to answer, the messages in various chat apps were already 99+. Fortunately, very few people knew his phone number, so he was spared.
Seeing the call connected, Wen Ren Shu on the other end almost burst into tears, briefly explaining to Lin Qichi: “Brother, the Meng family is asking you for someone, saying it’s a child from their collateral branch, named Meng Yu. I’m just asking if you’ve seen him, the one who played the ghost groom yesterday.”
This time, Lin Qichi was truly surprised. Meng Yu, the devoted male second lead in the world line?
But wasn’t it his little fish that he brought back? Although he suddenly and inexplicably turned small, how did he become the devoted male second lead in the new world who was always faithfully following En Sihan?
Lin Qichi suddenly thought of something, looking at the little ghost in the corner with an indescribable gaze.
It didn’t seem so strange, either. They were originally a couple in a past life, so putting on a disguise to be a devoted male second lead was considered normal.
Lin Qichi said to Wen Ren Shu on the phone: “He’s here with me, just suffering from severe Yin energy corruption. I’m taking him away to find some treatment methods, and I’ll send him back tomorrow at Hai hour.” His gaze never left the little ghost.
“Hai hour? Brother, isn’t that too late? The Meng family…” Wen Ren Shu’s shocked voice grew louder, but realizing there might be eavesdroppers, he lowered his voice again, trying incessantly to bring his brother back to his senses.
After finishing the explanation, Lin Qichi hung up the phone directly. Hai hour was indeed a very dangerous time for Heavenly Masters, but for ghosts and the like, it was an excellent time.
If the Meng Yu identity was something Qi Feiyu conjured, passing Hai hour should make him much safer.
Lin Qichi grabbed the little ghost’s hand, then pulled back his hand abruptly as if burned. Apologetically, he said to the little ghost, who was actually Meng Yu in disguise: “Sorry, the Yin energy is too heavy. I mistook you for someone else. My apologies.”
“It’s okay.”
Meng Yu sat up straight. Although his body had shrunk, making him look like a delicate porcelain doll, he still acted like an adult. The wedding attire conjured by illusion magic had also shrunk to fit him, the intense visual impact of the contrast creating an adorable scene that few could resist.
However, Lin Qichi simply put the newly bought clothes beside Meng Yu before getting up and leaving.
Meng Yu watched expressionlessly as Lin Qichi left the room, closing the door behind him. He could no longer restrain himself, throwing himself onto the spot where Lin Qichi had just been.
Although he couldn’t remember many things, he was certain that this person was the one he was looking for. But he couldn’t… he couldn’t pull him in yet. Only after resolving those issues could he safely acknowledge the person he had been searching for in his heart.
Not yet… not yet.
Lin Qichi’s thoughts were in a jumble, his feet unconsciously leading him to the kitchen.
“Continue cooking. It’ll help to sort out my thoughts.”
Lin Qichi had placed the black sword he brought back last night on the kitchen shelf, thinking he could make use of it in the future.
“Little fish, time to eat.”
After simply preparing a meal, Lin Qichi habitually called Qi Feiyu to come out and eat. Realizing what he had done, Meng Yu was already pushing open the door.
Meng Yu had already changed his clothes, wearing a loose white sweatshirt and matching casual pants. It had to be said that Lin Qichi’s fashion sense was impeccable. Although he had only held him for one night, the size was just right.
Meng Yu, looking like an eight or nine-year-old, was dressed in simple yet well-behaved clothing, softening the cold and distant look on his face.
Lin Qichi coldly called Meng Yu to eat, suddenly reverting to the cold-hearted and unfeeling heir of the Wen Ren family in the rumors.
Being watched by those amber eyes, Meng Yu felt as if he had nowhere to hide. The displayed aloofness was like a sharp sword, deeply piercing his heart.
On the dining table was a simple noodle dish. Hot scallion oil filled the white porcelain bowl, with thin, round noodles soaking in it, radiating an enticing sheen. Scallions floated on top, adding a touch of color, while a golden-brown egg, nestled in the middle of the noodle soup, looked crispy and tempting, exuding a mouthwatering aroma.
Although it was a simple meal, just looking at it and smelling the alluring fragrance, Meng Yu couldn’t help but want to swallow his saliva.
“Eat. I’ll explain to the Meng family.”
Although he didn’t know what kind of inferior role-playing game his little fish was playing, now that the play had started, how could he not cooperate and continue acting?
Lin Qichi experienced the joy of raising a child for the first time, although there were more troubles.
He didn’t know how Qi Feiyu had set things up, but he was truly like an ordinary child, with a particularly delicate stomach. Having no experience, he had used the adult amount of oil for the noodles in the morning, which was a bit too greasy for a child’s stomach.
As soon as Lin Qichi threw the bowl into the dishwasher, Meng Yu came running over, miserably tugging at Lin Qichi’s pants and saying, “My tummy hurts.”
“It wasn’t me who put the medicine in, you saw it. I ate it myself, too.”
Meng Yu’s tender face, so delicate it seemed you could pinch water from it, immediately darkened.
“Upset stomach?” Lin Qichi suddenly had a flash of inspiration. “Is it because you’re too small and your stomach can’t digest it?”
“Maybe.”
Considering little fish’s current inconvenience with his small body, Lin Qichi, despite Meng Yu’s resistance, picked up the squirming, acting little child, whose actions were no different from a spoiled brat.
“Let me go!” Meng Yu struggled with all his might in Lin Qichi’s arms. “We shouldn’t… we shouldn’t have that kind of contact between human and ghost.”
Lin Qichi, who had never stopped working out, had no problem holding him. How could Meng Yu, an eight or nine-year-old child, possibly win?
Lin Qichi patted the child gently on the back, signaling him to be quiet.
“Tummy hurts. Usually, little kids want medicine from the hospital. What does little fishy want to eat? Be good, and Uncle will take you to get little fishy medicine.”
Meng Yu’s face flushed red in Lin Qichi’s arms, and he turned his head away, refusing to look at him. On the back of his furry little head were the unmistakable signs of “I’m angry, come and coax me.”
“Hahahaha.”
Lin Qichi was also very wicked. To cute little children, he only teased them, not coaxes them.
Even after little fishy turned his head away, angry, he still freed a hand to poke the back of his head while laughing.
Meng Yu’s head bobbed with each poke, and not feeling safe because his feet weren’t on solid ground, he couldn’t help but tightly grip Lin Qichi’s arm that was holding him. Lin Qichi laughed even louder.
“Stop poking, you’ll break it.” Meng Yu slapped Lin Qichi’s hand away, but unfortunately, his hands were too small, and in the end, he only made his own palm tremble.
Meng Yu angrily turned his head back to glare at Lin Qichi.
“Why are you so rude?”
Lin Qichi didn’t understand why, only pinching Meng Yu’s little nose with affection and teasingly saying, “I can’t help it, baby. You’re too cute. My cultivation is too shallow. I can’t resist such temptation.”
Lin Qichi was used to being unrestrained. No one at his new job dared to restrict him yet. He was used to being lazy, and would only restrain himself a little in front of little fish. You could catch a glimpse of it from his occasional overbearing behavior.
Lin Qichi carried Meng Yu to the sofa, made him lie face down to relax, and rubbed his tummy with just the right amount of pressure.
He secretly complained: This little ghost, you didn’t learn everything, did you? You ate too much greasy food and your tummy hurts, but you don’t have a stomach ache or the inability to take medicine, it’s just pure indigestion.
Lin Qichi drew a few talismans for him and had him drink them with warm milk.
As a result, this little ghost also developed lactose intolerance. After drinking the milk, he complained about his tummy hurting again and asked him to take him to the bathroom, but then said he didn’t feel anything.
Lin Qichi had no choice but to rub his hands together to warm them and then rub his tummy, little by little.
Meng Yu lay quietly on Lin Qichi’s lap the whole time, so comfortable and peaceful that it was almost as if he was really asleep. Suddenly, he asked with his eyes closed, “Wen Ren family, are you going to Six Corner Tower?”
“I’m not sure. If it’s not serious, they usually don’t report it to me,” Lin Qichi said as he switched hands.
Hearing the keyword, Lin Qichi subconsciously thought of the world line. Meng Yu’s first appearance was at Six Corner Tower, saving the female lead from falling off the building.
Lin Qichi’s heart felt as if it were blocked by something, his blood supply seemed to have stopped, his heart dull and stifled.
“Wen Ren Shu’s incomplete soul fragment is there.” Meng Yu kept his eyes closed, his lips a pale color that looked unnaturally white in the light.
“Okay, then I’ll go there.” He just needed to go and watch the female lead. If he couldn’t change the world line, he needed to do his best to ensure En Sihan’s safety.
“Take him with you.” Meng Yu guessed that he didn’t want Wen Ren Shu to get into danger, and the hand hidden under him clenched into a fist, his nails digging into his tender flesh, trying to use the pain to suppress the jealousy that welled up.
He added: “The damaged soul is fragile and can’t wait too long. It needs to be replenished as soon as possible.”
“You want to go, too?” Lin Qichi asked with certainty.
“Yes.” Meng Yu turned his body and leaned into Lin Qichi’s arms, slowly opening his eyes, in which was a touch of blood red.
The next day, Lin Qichi sent the child back to the Meng family and put the spare key to his newly bought house in the mailbox in front of the door. After everything was settled, he also returned to the Wen Ren family.
“Brother, you’re finally back.” As soon as Lin Qichi crossed the threshold, Wen Ren Shu came running over like a puff of smoke, complaining to him: “You have no idea. Ever since I got back, those uncles have been dragging me around, checking me non-stop. I finally got them to let me go when I said I was coming out to greet you.”
“What were the results of the checkup?”
In the current generation of the Wen Ren family, the direct descendants were only Wen Ren Yi and Wen Ren Shu. Wen Ren Yi was strong and didn’t like to cause trouble, so the Wen Ren family was very relieved about him.
Wen Ren Shu was the opposite. Because his soul was unstable, he was curious, and he was reckless. The elders of the Wen Ren family had a headache because of him.
It had to be said that the Wen Ren family’s atmosphere was the best in the Heavenly Master Association, the ideal standard for all Heavenly Master families. They had always adhered to the proverb “With great power comes great responsibility.” Because there were few people in the family, except for illegitimate children who were not accepted, they all loved and cherished their descendants.
The strong protecting the weak, the elders protecting the young, was something that everyone in the Wen Ren family took for granted.
Lin Qichi liked this atmosphere very much and had adopted eighty or ninety percent of it. Every time he saw Wen Ren Shu, his first reaction was concern and a headache.
“What problems could I possibly have? I’m in great health, everything goes smoothly, I eat well, I have no problems at all. The uncles are just too nervous,” Wen Ren Shu said confidently, quite self-assured.
“Good. Since everything is going smoothly, then go with me to deal with the Six Corner Tower in a few days.” Lin Qichi patted Wen Ren Shu on the shoulder, amused by his self-confidence.
“Brother, what did you say?” Wen Ren Yi suggesting taking him along, absolutely no one would dare to stop them. After a brief moment of shock, Wen Ren Shu was naturally a hundred times excited.
He couldn’t help but confirm it again: “Go where? The famous Heavenly Master Association’s Six Corner Tower, which has never been solved and has now been declared shelved?”
Lin Qichi didn’t know what kind of tourist spot it was, but he nodded with a smile: “That’s the one. I’ll go tell Grandpa, you go pack your things.”
Lin Qichi strode toward the main building. Halfway there, he remembered something and turned to instruct Wen Ren Shu.
“Oh, right, Meng Yu should be going too. You should do some desensitization training now so you don’t get scared and lose face again.”
Wen Ren Shu couldn’t hold his face, and hurriedly waved Lin Qichi away, rushing back to pack his things.
Taking Wen Ren Shu out to handle an incident was no small matter. Fortunately, Wen Ren Yi was reliable. Under Wen Ren Yi’s explanation and repeated assurances, the head of the Wen Ren family finally gave his approval.
When Lin Qichi walked out of the main building, he deeply exhaled. As expected of the man who had been the head of the Wen Ren family for so long, it was indeed a bit difficult to be slippery in front of him.
Without enough bargaining chips, it was impossible to be released. Wen Ren Shu’s damaged soul was undoubtedly a good bargaining chip. But how the clues came about, whether they were true… that was hard to deceive him about.
Before it was time to meet Meng Yu at the agreed departure point, Lin Qichi put Wen Ren Shu through a series of rapid-fire, hellish training sessions.
It was okay if he couldn’t distinguish between the five grains, the family didn’t expect him to cook. But being physically lazy was a bit too much in the Wen Ren family.
In just ten days, Wen Ren Shu was severely trained by Lin Qichi. Coming out of the hellish training, the man had changed drastically.
Lin Qichi was undoubtedly a good teacher. Besides the heavy dark circles under his eyes, Wen Ren Shu’s physical fitness had obviously and visibly become stronger.
At least his abs had six vaguely visible packs. He could support himself on the wall and pull himself up with one hand.
Lin Qichi looked at the results of his hard work and nodded in satisfaction. Fortunately, the student was obedient and enjoyed the training.
Wen Ren Shu silently complained: Could he not be obedient? If he wasn’t obedient, he would be brutally beaten without explanation and wouldn’t get any food.
The blood and tears along the way had also made Wen Ren Shu swell with confidence. After getting the head of the family’s approval, Lin Qichi had told Wen Ren Shu the purpose of the trip: to replenish his missing soul fragment.
Wen Ren Shu felt the deep love of his cousin after a long time, and was temporarily filled with gratitude. He flattered Lin Qichi every day, and after receiving the reward of more, more, and even more training, he was “happy” enough to have a strange smile every day during training.
Lin Qichi was scared by him a few times, and only then did he seem to realize something. He doubled the training volume again, and Wen Ren Shu was happy to retaliate by brewing bitter tea, which was bitter, but the refreshing effect was immediate. Lin Qichi found something good and immediately used it on Wen Ren Shu, extending the training time by quite a bit.
The Wen Ren family was happy to see the changes in Wen Ren Shu, as he had less time to cause trouble and could use that time to improve his self-defense skills.
Wen Ren Jin also waved his hand and sent Wen Ren Shu out with peace of mind.
