Chapter Index

“Do you have a weapon?” Barnett’s gaze swept over Yan Yunqing, not seeing anything resembling a weapon. He casually picked up a wooden sword from a nearby weapon rack and tossed it to Yan Yunqing.

“If you don’t have one, use this for now.”

Yan Yunqing reacted quickly, reaching out to catch the wooden sword. It felt heavy in his hand. Fortunately, Yan Yunqing subconsciously exerted force with his arm, preventing the sword from falling on his foot.

“It’s made of heavy ironwood, so it’ll be a bit heavier than a normal greatsword. Can you swing it?” Barnett pointed to other wooden swords nearby. “If you can’t swing it, there are other wooden swords over there. They’re all unsharpened, so feel free to pick one.”

Yan Yunqing hefted the greatsword in his hand. The feel was indeed a bit heavy, but he had added a lot of points to his constitution and strength, so this weight wasn’t much to him.

He shook his head. “This one’s fine. No need to change.”

They were all wooden swords. A heavier sword felt better to swing. Switching to another light wooden sword would make Yan Yunqing feel uncomfortable instead.

Barnett raised an eyebrow. “Good kid, come on.”

Barnett also took a sword from the weapon rack, but compared to the heavy sword he threw to Yan Yunqing, the sword in his hand was a lighter one-handed sword.

One-handed swords were more agile and nimble, with faster attack speeds, but their damage was not as good as a greatsword. Greatswords were heavy and slow to attack, but with the weight of the greatsword itself, each hit dealt high damage, and it also came with a bit of a defense bonus and resistance to interruption.

Barnett and Yan Yunqing found an open space and stood face to face. He raised his wooden sword horizontally in front of him. “Come on, you attack me first.”

Yan Yunqing raised the greatsword. This was his first time using a greatsword. Before, he mostly used magic to fight monsters, and only occasionally used a longsword to slash a few times at close range, with no real moves to speak of, at most as a means of sneak attack.

But he had still figured out some swordsman techniques in that hellish combat schedule. Even if he was now using a greatsword that he wasn’t very familiar with, those techniques were still applicable.

Yan Yunqing forcefully pushed off the ground with his right foot, raising the greatsword and slashing horizontally towards Barnett. The attack range of this strike was very wide. Even if Barnett dodged, he couldn’t completely avoid the range of this strike. He simply didn’t dodge, directly meeting Yan Yunqing’s greatsword with his one-handed sword.

Instantly, a piercing sound of swords scraping against each other echoed throughout the training ground.

Barnett only felt his wrist grow heavy. He felt a great pressure coming from the sword in his hand. He couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow. As expected of a level 59 swordsman, this strength was really good.

It was just that his moves were too simple, with too many points for counterattack. He still needed to practice more.

“If this is all the strength you have, it’s not enough for me to let you off for skipping class today.” Barnett slowly opened his mouth, exerting force with the muscles in his hand to knock Yan Yunqing’s greatsword away. “If you can’t give me a good match result today, I’m afraid I’ll leave a mark on your attendance record today.”

“By the way, what’s your name again?”

Yan Yunqing raised the greatsword again, pursing his lips upon hearing this. “Don’t you think it’s a little late to ask that question now?”

    Barnett: ?

Before Barnett could react, Yan Yunqing raised the greatsword again and charged up. He knew that his swordsman skills were definitely not as good as Barnett’s, and even if he just relied on strength, it definitely wouldn’t be enough. Then he could only try to defeat Barnett from where he was good at.

Yan Yunqing’s greatest strength, or rather what was unmatched by others, was his all-around stats.

Because of the system panel, he had freely allocated points every time he leveled up. Because the previous panel was too fragile, Yan Yunqing initially added points more or less evenly to each basic stat.

Afterwards, he broke into the Bato Vita Royal Family and killed Fei Wu, and ran to Mantipelle to cause trouble. Yan Yunqing added a lot of points to his strength and agility, mainly following the principle of running away if he couldn’t win.

Now he was swinging the greatsword with vigor, once, twice, three times…

Barnett took each of Yan Yunqing’s attacks, becoming more and more surprised as he fought. He knew the weight of the heavy ironwood, even heavier than a normal greatsword. He didn’t expect the kid in front of him to be able to swing the greatsword with such a fast attack speed?

If he didn’t feel wrong, was the kid’s attack speed getting faster and faster?

It was as if… he had already become familiar with the weight of the heavy ironwood and found the feel?

Barnett’s gaze towards Yan Yunqing brightened a few degrees. Looking at those thin arms and legs, Barnett initially thought he didn’t have much strength, at least not enough to swing the greatsword like this.

But this kid did it, and with such a fast speed, could it be that he was born with divine strength?

    He was a natural swordsman!

Barnett was eager to test his mettle, paying more attention to this guidance practice, and made a mental note of Yan Yunqing’s appearance, secretly thinking: It won’t do for such a good seedling to think about skipping class every day, he must be brought back, maybe he can become an honorary swordsman in the future.

Yan Yunqing didn’t know what Barnett was thinking, but he could feel Barnett’s attitude gradually becoming serious, because he was having more and more difficulty fighting the other party, which also made him more focused on facing this battle.

He picked up his speed a bit more, which was basically Yan Yunqing’s limit. If he wanted to improve further, he could only continue adding points to both strength and agility at the same time.

Clang clang clang, the sounds of striking were endless. The students practicing on the side couldn’t help but stop their movements and look towards Yan Yunqing and Barnett.

    “Is this a guidance match?”

“Probably, look, Instructor Barnett is only defending and not attacking, it should be a guidance match.”

“That heavy sword in his hand is made of heavy ironwood, right? I respect him as a warrior, practicing with a heavy sword against Instructor Barnett, he’s not afraid of being beaten until he spits out his dinner from last night.”

“Why do I feel like Instructor Barnett is at a disadvantage? Is it just my imagination?”

“That must be your imagination. How could this guy win against Instructor Barnett? Instructor Barnett is already level 79, right?”

In terms of strength alone, Yan Yunqing knew that he was no match for Barnett, but with his strength and constant attacks, plus the weight of the heavy ironwood, it was enough for Barnett to drink a pot of it.

At least Barnett really felt a bit of soreness in his wrist now, faintly numb, completely shaken out by the weight of the heavy ironwood.

However, he was already a bit overwhelmed, but Yan Yunqing, who was using the greatsword, was still like he was fine. He was swinging the greatsword without stopping. Barnett strongly suspected that he was a cow in his previous life, how could he have so much bovine strength that he couldn’t use up?

He couldn’t continue like this. Just relying on defense, he would be exhausted to death by this kid sooner or later. Barnett decided to switch from defense to offense, at least he couldn’t be exhausted to death by a skinny kid in front of so many students.

    That would be too lame.

Barnett found an opportunity in the intervals of Yan Yunqing’s attacks, turned his foot, dodged his side slash, and retreated a few steps, causing Yan Yunqing to lose his original attack frequency. He instantly drew his sword and struck at Yan Yunqing’s arm.

Yan Yunqing was caught off guard and was actually hit by Barnett, his attack rhythm completely disrupted, and a dull ache came from his arm.

“Remember, every sword strike of a swordsman must have a clear purpose, attacking your target quickly and accurately.”

Saying this, Barnett launched an attack in Yan Yunqing’s direction. Yan Yunqing drew his sword to block, but Barnett changed the direction of his sword halfway, hitting Yan Yunqing’s side waist.

Pain came, but Yan Yunqing became more focused.

The next sword continued to attack, Yan Yunqing’s eyes sharpened, raising his sword to block. After successfully blocking this strike, he quickly slashed out his sword, not giving Barnett any time to react, and slashed out.

Barnett missed his strike. He didn’t expect Yan Yunqing to be able to draw his sword at the instant of blocking. He was caught with a sliver of an opening and was directly slashed in the chest, the enormous weight of the heavy ironwood knocking him back several steps, making a dull thud.

Barnett took a deep breath, touching the position of his chest. He was certain that this strike would leave a purple mark on his body.

    It really hurt like hell.

He looked strangely at Yan Yunqing, unable to understand how he could deliver such a heavy attack after blocking without any time to build up momentum.

Yan Yunqing was preparing to continue forward, but was stopped by Barnett. “Alright, alright, do you have so much stamina? How long have you been swinging the sword, and you can still slash?”

Yan Yunqing stopped upon hearing this, resting the greatsword on the ground, finally having time to catch his breath. His stamina bar was indeed running low. Based on the remaining stamina bar, he could at most continue swinging this greatsword a dozen or so more times.

“I’m fine.” Yan Yunqing lied without changing his expression.

“Bullshit.” Barnett walked over, casually pinching Yan Yunqing’s arm, able to feel the faint trembling under the muscles. “Your hand is shaking after you stopped, is that what you call fine?”

Yan Yunqing blinked his eyes, changed his tune, and said honestly: “I think I can still swing it a dozen more times, but that’s the limit.”

Barnett nodded: “I thought so too, my calculations are about the same.”

After all, his own hand was almost paralyzed, unless this kid was a monster, he could continue to swing that heavy ironwood greatsword.

“But your skills are very rusty, especially the first few strikes, the points of force are very strange. Only after hitting the back did your force shift from your arm to your waist. What? Haven’t practiced with greatswords before?”

Barnett was very curious. In his opinion, Yan Yunqing’s greatsword was full of flaws, but because his attack speed was fast enough, dense enough, and his stamina and strength were excellent, he could fight him until now.

Yan Yunqing: “Yeah, I used to use one-handed swords or daggers.”

Barnett couldn’t help but frown in disgust when he heard the word dagger. “Why is a good swordsman playing with daggers? You don’t want to learn the rogue’s path, do you? I’m telling you, rogues are all wild paths, getting close to sneak attack. You can only gain the upper hand if you succeed, but if you encounter a monster that is vigilant enough or has high defense, you won’t be able to break through its defense.”

“A good swordsman should face the enemy head-on, and look for opportunities to break through from the side!”

Yan Yunqing could see that Barnett was a typical strong attack-type swordsman, who disliked swordsmen who took the rogue route.

It was only a little less than hating magicians.

Yan Yunqing murmured without speaking, but he was indeed not a swordsman on the rogue route, he was actually the magician that swordsmen hated the most.
