    Chapter 34

“To see the light of day again…?” Brooke was stunned, unable to recover for a long while.

Yan Yunqing waved his hand, “A righteous person is going to punish evil and promote good.”

    “See you next time.”

Having said that, he pushed open the window of Brooke’s room and leaped down.

“Hey, this is the fourth floor—” Brooke wanted to stop him, but couldn’t even touch the hem of the other’s clothes. He leaned on the windowsill and looked down, only to see the masked man in black disappear into the distance after a few jumps.

    “What a strange person…”

Brooke murmured, “I hope he can really do what he says and punish evil and promote good.”

Having performed a Leap of Faith from the fourth floor, Yan Yunqing landed awkwardly. Lillian, who had popped her head out of his pocket, complained, “Couldn’t you just walk out the door like a normal person? It’s not like you’re in the City Lord’s mansion, no one’s chasing you!”

Yan Yunqing took out a Small Blue Bottle to replenish the few bars of health he had lost from the Leap of Faith, “It looks cooler and more mysterious this way, what do you know?”

Lillian snorted, “If I hadn’t cast a Levitation spell on you in time, you would have broken your leg falling from that height!”

Yan Yunqing perfunctorily patted Lillian’s head, “Yeah, yeah, Lillian is the best! Truly my good partner!”

    Lillian: …Tch.

Yan Yunqing watched the gradually awakening Seta City and found a corner to remove all the equipment he had on him. He put on a plain, short outfit he had swiped from the blacksmith shop, disguising himself as an ordinary commoner youth.

The only problem was that his face was a little too outstanding. Yan Yunqing thought for a moment and used Disguise again, changing into a random passerby’s face.

Now that was better, he could be thrown into a crowd and no one would recognize him.

Yan Yunqing basked in the rising sun, stretched lazily, and could clearly hear the clicking sounds coming from his bones.

The feeling of fatigue belatedly surged up, and Yan Yunqing yawned.

What an eventful night. First, he ambushed five mages, broke into the City Lord’s mansion to extract information from Dean, and had a game of hide-and-seek with the City Lord’s guards. Finally, he rummaged through various documents in the Magic Academy, finding Brooke, the only person who knew the truth six years ago.

Then he listened to the whole truth of the incident from Brooke and made a deduction…

Wow, thinking about it carefully, Yan Yunqing felt like he was Superman.

Getting caught up in the game, he finished the main quest in one night, which was truly exhausting.

Lillian was also too sleepy and went straight to sleep in Yan Yunqing’s pocket, already snoring softly.

Listening to Lillian’s soft snoring, Yan Yunqing yawned again. He wanted to find a place to sleep, but sleeping in Seta City was not safe at the moment. He could only hurry back to Sunset Village.

Fortunately, he was now close to level twenty, and his physical fitness had increased greatly. Even without Lillian’s buff spells, it wouldn’t take him long to return to Sunset Village.

Before leaving, Yan Yunqing remembered the five people he had ambushed yesterday.

Yan Yunqing pondered for a moment and decided to go to the place where he had ambushed them.

Originally, he had planned to let these five off the hook, but plans couldn’t keep up with changes. He had accidentally killed Dean last night, and now the people in the City Lord’s mansion must be looking everywhere for clues related to Dean’s death.

Yan Yunqing had gotten the clues from Big Nose, and if these five went back and noticed the movements of the City Lord’s mansion, and then put it all together, they would definitely know that he had killed Dean.

He had taken great care to wear a mask and disguise himself when ‘interrogating’ them, so the five would definitely not be able to discover his identity. However, the questions he asked were very pointed, and if those five reported Kaelena and Adelaide’s names to the City Lord’s mansion, it would only be a matter of time before they came looking for Sunset Village.

Yan Yunqing felt that he couldn’t leave such a big variable outside.

Unconsciously cracking the knuckles of his left index finger, Yan Yunqing made a decision.

Get rid of these five people.

Yan Yunqing narrowed his eyes and quickly ran towards the location where he had ‘dumped the bodies’.

When he arrived, the five had just barely woken up, but Yan Yunqing had tied them all up before he left last night. They were still in a state of struggling desperately, with their mouths gagged and their hands and feet bound.

Yan Yunqing hid in the shadows and walked towards the five.

    “Mmmph, mmmph—”

When leaving Seta City, Yan Yunqing was questioned for a long time, but his current appearance was that of a very inconspicuous ordinary commoner. Using the Disguise skill, even his magic fluctuations were almost non-existent, and he was quickly released.

The skills from the hidden quest were really useful.

Yan Yunqing quickly headed towards Sunset Village.

When he returned to Sunset Village, it was already noon.

The sun was hanging high in the center of the sky, and the people in the village had already been working for half the day.

Yan Yunqing didn’t attract anyone’s attention and quietly sneaked back to the blacksmith shop.

The door of the blacksmith shop was tightly closed, and Yuli had hung a small sign on the door: [Closed Today], followed by a cute smiling face, which made people couldn’t help but smile knowingly.

Yan Yunqing looked at it for a moment, then entered the blacksmith shop from the side door. Old Jason was comparing a piece of iron with a blueprint, seemingly studying how to forge new farm tools, while Yuli was sleeping soundly on the table next to him.

Yuli was still wearing the same clothes that Yan Yunqing and the others had left in last night, probably waiting for them here all night.

Seeing the little girl’s rosy cheeks as she slept, Yan Yunqing’s heart softened a little, and the hostility that had arisen from what he had seen and heard all night dissipated a lot.

Yan Yunqing reached into his pocket, took out Lillian, and gently placed her next to Yuli. The two cute little fellows were sleeping soundly, head to head.

Old Jason saw him and stopped what he was doing.

Yan Yunqing pointed to the door, signaling Old Jason to come out and talk.

Old Jason looked at Yuli and Lillian, who were sleeping together on the table, and gently nodded.

Walking out the door, they stood in the backyard of the blacksmith shop.

Yan Yunqing took out the longsword that Old Jason had given him before he left, “Was this magic stone given to Henry by Kaelena?”

Old Jason raised his eyes in surprise, and after a few seconds of silence, nodded, “Yes, it was.”

“They were very close since they were young. Henry was older and used the scholarships he received from the swordsman academy to buy magic wands for Kaelena. Later, Kaelena gave Henry a magic stone, said to be a reward from some competition.”

Speaking of his son, the taciturn Old Jason couldn’t help but say a few more words, his expression filled with reminiscence.

“They had a good relationship, so were they together?” Yan Yunqing asked.

Old Jason paused, shook his head, and sighed, “Kaelena was a very strong-willed child. In the early years, the village helped her family a lot, and Henry often used the money he got from the swordsman academy to subsidize Kaelena.”

“Perhaps because of this, even though both children had feelings for each other, Kaelena still wanted to pay everything back before talking about a relationship.”

“Although I don’t care about these things, but…” Old Jason showed a faint smile, “What Henry liked was probably a strong, hardworking, and kind girl like that.”

Yan Yunqing remembered the other key in his backpack, the Elementary Magic Awakening Stone, and felt a bit melancholy in his heart.

“Um… I want to ask one last question.” Yan Yunqing hesitated, “Perhaps this will offend you… Six years ago, Henry left after Kaelena, right?”

Old Jason was puzzled. Mentioning the sad events still made him feel a little down. He answered Yan Yunqing’s question, “Yes, Kaelena was seriously injured at that time, and was almost dying. Henry was… Henry wanted to bring Kaelena’s body back from the demons, so he was also seriously injured.”

Demons level up by devouring. They can devour their own kind, and they can also devour other lives.

For a demon, a low-level mage like Kaelena was a great supplement. Devouring Kaelena would probably make them ignore all the damage Kaelena had done to them before, and even level up one or two levels.

Henry rescued Kaelena from the demon’s mouth, both because he didn’t want Kaelena to be completely devoured by the demon, and because he didn’t want the demon to become stronger.

“Their relationship was really good.” Yan Yunqing said sincerely, “Whether it was Kaelena, or Henry, or the dead patrol members, they were all very brave.”

Remembering those young children, Old Jason’s eyes were a little wet, faintly shimmering with tears, “Yes… they were all very brave.”

They were the heroes of Sunset Village.

No one asked them to stand up, but to protect the homes behind them, they chose to stand up, standing at the forefront with their fragile bodies, becoming the strongest shield.

Yan Yunqing returned to the blacksmith shop and helped Old Jason send Yuli back to her room. Then he took Lillian and returned to their room to sleep soundly.

When Lillian rubbed her eyes and woke up, Yan Yunqing had been sitting by the window for an unknown amount of time.

“Huh, when did we come back?” Lillian looked around blankly, discovering that the surrounding environment was the room she had been sleeping in for several days, “I remember when I fell asleep, I was still in Seta City?”

She flapped her wings and flew to Yan Yunqing’s side, landing on Yan Yunqing’s bent knee. She discovered that Yan Yunqing was studying the Awakening Stone he had obtained from Brooke.

“What are you doing?” Lillian patted Yan Yunqing’s knee, calling back the clearly absent-minded Yan Yunqing, “Awakening Stone? Do you also think this thing is related to what happened six years ago?”

“Huh?” Yan Yunqing came back to his senses and first answered Lillian’s previous question, “We came back long ago. While you were sleeping like a Luluzhu pig, I carried you back.”

Lillian was dissatisfied, “What do you mean sleeping like a Luluzhu pig!”

“Because no matter how much I called you, you wouldn’t wake up, and your snoring was louder than a Luluzhu pig.” Yan Yunqing smiled, shook the Awakening Stone in his hand, “As for whether this Awakening Stone is related to what happened six years ago… Well, is and isn’t?”

Lillian frowned, “When did you start liking to speak in riddles? Can’t you be more direct? Is it or isn’t it?”

    “You really are impatient.”

Yan Yunqing sighed, “You don’t have the gentleness of an elf at all.”

Seeing that Lillian’s temper was about to flare up, Yan Yunqing quickly smoothed things over, “This thing, to be precise, is not a clue that Adelaide investigated regarding Kaelena’s death, but something Adelaide originally prepared to give to Kaelena.”

“Or rather, Kaelena asked Adelaide to help her find it.”

    Lillian: “Huh?”

Her brain circuits were tied in knots for a moment, and she couldn’t sort out what Yan Yunqing was saying, “You mean…”

“Do you remember what we heard at the hunter Lawson’s house before?” Yan Yunqing didn’t explain, but instead asked, “Kaelena was able to go to the Magic Academy thanks to Lawson’s hard work for several years, plus the villagers contributing tuition fees, family by family.”

Lillian also remembered this, “Yes, those villagers hoped that after Kaelena finished her studies, she could return to the village and enlighten the children who didn’t have enough magical talent to enter the academy… Eh?! Awakening Stone?”

Yan Yunqing nodded, “Yes, Kaelena never forgot that she was able to go to school because of the kindness of the whole village, so she always remembered to repay everyone.”

“This Awakening Stone is what Kaelena asked Adelaide to find.”

“It was so that after becoming a Junior Mage, she could return to the village and perform magical awakenings for the children.”

That’s why Kaelena applied to go out immediately after passing the Junior Mage exam, preparing to return to the village and tell everyone this good news.
