Chapter 105: Yu Fengran Faces a Choice

For three consecutive days, Liu Jinchen appeared downstairs at the Xingyue Media building on time.

On the first day, he held a large bouquet of roses. The image of a flowery arm man with red roses attracted frequent glances from passersby.

Yu Fengran nearly twisted his ankle as he came out of the revolving door: “You… what are you doing?”

    “Pursuing you.”

Liu Jinchen handed the flowers forward with a perfectly justified expression. “They said you have to give flowers when pursuing someone.”

Yu Fengran stared at the bouquet of at least 99 roses, his temples throbbing: “Who said that?”

    “Qi Yanwang.”

Liu Jinchen scratched his head, “He said Zhuo Huaimo likes this.”

Yu Fengran took a deep breath: “First of all, I am not Zhuo Huaimo. Secondly…”

He glanced at Liu Jinchen, “I don’t like flowers, it’s too embarrassing!”

The next day, Liu Jinchen learned his lesson and brought a pile of snacks.

“I saw Old Qi always buying snacks for Director Du, so I was wondering if there’s something you’d like?”

Yu Fengran was a little speechless, but he still took the snacks. “I’ve been a little annoyed recently, I want to be alone for a couple of days!”

    “Oh!”

As expected, Liu Jinchen didn’t come on the third or fourth day.

When Yu Fengran walked out of the building, he subconsciously looked around. Not seeing that familiar tall figure, he felt a strange emptiness in his heart.

He smiled self-deprecatingly and was about to leave when he suddenly heard a familiar voice,

    “Fengran.”

Liu Jinchen jumped out of a black Land Rover, carrying a thermos bucket in his hand: “Did you wait long? The line at this shop was too long.”

Yu Fengran looked at the beads of sweat on his forehead: “I said I wanted to be alone for a couple of days.”

    “Yeah, two days.”

Liu Jinchen seriously counted on his fingers, “Yesterday and the day before, today is the third day.”

    Yu Fengran: “”

Inside the thermos bucket was steaming chicken soup, with a few wolfberries floating on the golden oil.

Liu Jinchen opened the lid as if presenting a treasure: “I specifically asked Zhuo Huaimo what kind of soup you like to drink.”

Yu Fengran stared at the soup and suddenly asked, “Liu Jinchen, what do you like about me anyway?”

Liu Jinchen was stunned, the roots of his ears turning red at a speed visible to the naked eye: “Just… you’re good-looking.”

“There are many people more good-looking than me.”

    “That’s different.”

Liu Jinchen rubbed his hands anxiously, “They don’t have your… don’t have your…”

    “Don’t have what?”

    “Don’t have your stupidity.”

Liu Jinchen blurted out, then wished he could bite off his own tongue, “No! I mean you’re pure!”

Yu Fengran laughed in exasperation: “So you’re here to show your love?”

    “No!”

Liu Jinchen was sweating on his forehead, “I just… I just think you’re too good, and I’m afraid someone will bully you.”

The setting sun stretched the shadows of the two people very long.

Yu Fengran looked at the flustered man in front of him, and suddenly felt a soft spot in his heart.

    “I’ll take the soup.”

He took the thermos bucket, “Don’t come tomorrow.”

    Liu Jinchen’s shoulders slumped.

    “Oh…”

    “Hahahaha!”

In a private club, Qi Yanwang laughed so hard that he slapped the table, “Old Liu, you actually have this day!”

Liu Jinchen sulked and chugged wine, even the blue dragon on his flowery arm seemed to have a grievance: “Shut up.”

Li Yang leaned over to pour him wine: “I didn’t expect it, the playboy Liu, would actually fall for a bookworm.”

    “He’s not a bookworm.”

    Liu Jinchen glared, “He’s… he’s…”

    “Is what?”

Qi Yanwang grinned, “Is your little idiot?”

Liu Jinchen’s ears turned red again.

    “Seriously,”

Li Yang asked curiously, “What did you see in him?”

Liu Jinchen stared at his wine glass, and Yu Fengran’s trembling eyelashes when he lowered his head to drink the soup appeared before his eyes: “He… is very clean.”

    “Clean?”

Qi Yanwang raised an eyebrow, “Aren’t your exes clean?”

    “It’s different.”

Liu Jinchen shook his head, “Although I, Liu Jinchen, am a mess, we all get what we want, it’s all consensual, we come together if we match, and we separate if we don’t. I don’t play with feelings!”

He gestured, “He’s like a pet rabbit, if you let him out, the wolves will snatch him away.”

Qi Yanwang and Li Yang exchanged glances and burst into even louder laughter at the same time.

    “It’s over, it’s over,”

Li Yang wiped the tears from his laughter, “Our Liu is completely done for.”

Liu Jinchen himself also felt unbelievable.

He was always the prince of the night scene, changing lovers faster than changing clothes. But now, just thinking about Yu Fengran possibly being tricked away by someone else made him irritable enough to want to beat someone up.

    “You don’t understand.”

He said sullenly, “He trusts people too easily.”

Like that day in the bar, even though he was also a stranger, Yu Fengran drank with him without any precautions.

Thinking of this, Liu Jinchen chugged another glass.

Qi Yanwang suddenly became serious: “Old Liu, are you serious?”

Liu Jinchen raised his head, his eyes with unprecedented clarity: “I’ve never been so sure.”

    “Even if…”

Qi Yanwang carefully chose his words, “Even if he might still like Lin Jianhe?”

Liu Jinchen’s hand suddenly tightened, and the glass made a sound as if it couldn’t bear the weight: “What’s so good about that Lin guy? Fengran isn’t stupid, he’ll see it eventually!”

Li Yang whistled: “Yo, you’ve changed your tune?”

    “Get lost.”

Liu Jinchen cursed with a smile, but he couldn’t hide the tenderness in his eyes, “You guys who’ve never truly loved someone don’t understand.”

Qi Yanwang raised an eyebrow: “Who says I haven’t…”

    “Enough,”

Liu Jinchen interrupted him, “You and Zhuo Huaimo are just one willing to hit and the other willing to be hit.”

Amidst the three people’s laughter, Liu Jinchen’s phone rang.

He looked at the caller ID, his hand shaking so much that he almost threw the phone away,

    “It’s… it’s him…”

Qi Yanwang quickly pressed the speakerphone: “Director Yu?”

There was an obvious pause on the other end, not expecting Qi Yanwang to answer the phone.

Qi Yanwang said cheekily, “Fengran ah, is the chicken soup good? Are you calling to order more dishes?”

Liu Jinchen wanted to beat Qi Yanwang to death, quickly snatched the phone back,

“He, they’re playing here, what do you need?”

Yu Fengran’s voice came through the speaker, “You tomorrow…”

The box was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop.

“What about tomorrow?” Liu Jinchen’s voice was tight.

“Director Zhuo wants to take the company people to a gathering tomorrow and wants me to book your club!”

    “Then, are you coming?”

Liu Jinchen asked cautiously, causing Qi Yanwang and Li Yang to laugh.

There was a moment of silence on the other end and then said, “Yes, I’ll go too!”

“Oh my, my Brother Liu is happy again!”

Qi Yanwang immediately cheered, and then he heard Yu Fengran specially interrupt on the other end,

“By the way, Director Zhuo said, don’t let CEO Qi know, he’s annoying!”

After saying that, he hung up the phone!

Now, Qi Yanwang stopped laughing, “Wait, what’s going on? My wife… I…”

Liu Jinchen glanced at him, “Brother, I’m sorry, tomorrow, we won’t be receiving you!”

Yu Fengran’s headlights cut through the night, illuminating the slender figure in front of the villa.

The force of his braking almost made the airbags pop out.

Lin Jianhe stood on the steps, his black trench coat fluttering in the night wind.

He raised his hand to block the blinding headlights, and the corners of his mouth curled up in a familiar arc:

    “Finally waited for you.”

Yu Fengran’s fingers gripped the steering wheel tightly.

“Want to get out and talk?”

Lin Jianhe knocked on the car window, his voice transmitted through the glass, “Just five minutes.”

Yu Fengran took a deep breath, a gust of cold wind blowing in as he pushed open the door: “Trespassing is illegal.”

    “The password hasn’t changed.”

Lin Jianhe shook his phone, “Still the day of our first date.”

This sentence was like a dull knife, stabbing hard into Yu Fengran’s heart.

He turned around to leave, but was grabbed by the wrist.

    “Let go!”

    “Hear me out.”

Lin Jianhe’s voice was suddenly hoarse, “I investigated Zhuo Huaimo because…”

“Because you wanted to find that black money?”

Yu Fengran turned around suddenly, “Because you wanted to take revenge on his parents?”

Lin Jianhe’s pupils shrank: “Who told you?”

    “Does it matter?”

Yu Fengran shook off his hand, “You approached me for this, so what are you acting like now?”

The night wind tousled both of their hair.

Lin Jianhe suddenly laughed, the smile containing a fatigue that Yu Fengran had never seen before: “At first, it was. But now…”

He reached out to touch Yu Fengran’s face, but his fingers froze in mid-air after being dodged, “I can’t tell the difference anymore.”

“Can’t tell the difference between what?”

“Can’t tell the difference between acting and being real.”

Lin Jianhe’s voice was as light as a sigh, “Like now, I should be coaxing you to go back and continue investigating Zhuo Huaimo, but looking at you…”

His Adam’s apple bobbed, “I just want to kiss you.”

Yu Fengran’s heart skipped a beat.

Too familiar, this feeling of shivering when being targeted by a hunter.

He took a half-step back: “Lin Jianhe, we’re over.”

    “No!”

Lin Jianhe suddenly raised his voice, then forced himself to calm down, “Fengran, with that money, we can live any life we want. We…”

    “And then what?”

Yu Fengran interrupted him, “Wait for your father to come to our door? Wait for more people to be harmed because of me?”

Lin Jianhe’s expression instantly darkened: “What did Zhuo Huaimo tell you?”

    “He didn’t say anything!”

Yu Fengran trembled with anger, “It’s you…”

Before he could finish speaking, Lin Jianhe suddenly pressed him against the car door.

The familiar woody fragrance enveloped him, and Yu Fengran’s body stiffened.

    “Has he touched you?”

Lin Jianhe’s thumb stroked his lips, his voice dangerous yet gentle, “That thug…”

“Get away!” Yu Fengran raised his knee to strike, but Lin Jianhe, who was prepared, easily restrained him.

“You still can’t learn to guard against me.”

Lin Jianhe chuckled, his breath spraying on his ear, “Just like in bed, clearly…”

A harsh braking sound interrupted the vulgar words.

    “Shut up!”

Yu Fengran finally exploded, “What right do you have…”

    “With this.”

Lin Jianhe suddenly took out a ring, “I want to marry you.”

“You once said that you wanted to marry me, wanted to have a home with me…” Lin Jianhe’s voice was seductive.

    “Enough!”

Yu Fengran interrupted him, “Every love word you say could be a lie.”

Yu Fengran turned around and entered the password, “Go, don’t make me hate you.”

The door lock clicked. Lin Jianhe suddenly rushed up and hugged him from behind, with such force that his ribs hurt.

    “Give me three months.”

He said urgently in Yu Fengran’s ear, “After I’m done dealing with…”

    “And then what?”

Yu Fengran didn’t struggle, “Continue to deceive me?”

Lin Jianhe was silent for a long time, so long that Yu Fengran thought he wouldn’t answer.

    “No.”

Finally, he let go, his voice so soft that it was almost inaudible, “Just these few days, I feel like I’ve experienced centuries.”

He took a few steps back, “I really want to spend my life with you.”

The night wind scattered the last sentence.

Yu Fengran stood at the door, watching Lin Jianhe’s figure gradually swallowed by the darkness…

He can’t forgive well-intentioned lies, let alone this kind of thing. But, love is most tormenting!
