Chapter 73: Kiss Scenes, Filmed Like This!

Qi Yanwang stood in the shower, the water flushing his skin red.

He mechanically scrubbed every inch of his skin, as if to wash away some invisible filth, until his skin stung.

The person in the mirror had red eyes, with heavy dark circles underneath.

Qi Yanwang stared at himself for a long time, then suddenly punched the mirror –

The sound of shattering glass was especially harsh in the empty bathroom, and fresh blood dripped onto the sink from between his fingers.

    “Fuck!”

He cursed softly, but couldn’t tell if he was cursing Xiao Zhu or himself.

A suitcase lay open on the bed, and Qi Yanwang stuffed all the clothes from the closet into it.

The phone screen lit up with a boarding reminder from the airline,

    “CA1487, departs at 7:30 AM.”

He glanced at the time, there were still three hours left.

On the way to the airport, Qi Yanwang opened the car window all the way.

The early autumn wind brought coolness as it poured in, dispelling some of his headache.

He stared at the city skyline flashing backwards outside the window, and suddenly remembered the bizarre dream he had last night –

The way Zhuo Huaimo trembled in his arms was so real, but now it seemed disgusting.

    “Boss, we’re here!”

The driver’s voice pulled him back to reality.

Qi Yanwang dragged his suitcase through security, each step feeling like walking on cotton.

The electronic screen at the boarding gate displayed “Boarding now.”

He took out his phone and, after hesitating for a long time, sent a message to Liu Jinchen,

    “Clean it up!”

As the plane climbed, Qi Yanwang gripped the armrest tightly.

The sunlight above the clouds stung his eyes, but he stubbornly refused to pull down the sunshade.

It was as if only this intense light could dispel the shadows in his heart.

The three-hour flight felt like three centuries.

When the words “Lijiang” appeared on the airport sign, Qi Yanwang almost ran out of the terminal.

    “Go here!”

He handed the address to the taxi driver, “Fastest speed.”

The cobblestone streets of Lijiang Ancient City bumped under the wheels, and Qi Yanwang’s temples throbbed in time.

The outline of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in the distance gradually became clear, like an ink painting unfolding outside the car window.

“Cars can’t go in up ahead.”

The driver pointed to a road sign, “The film and television base requires walking.”

Qi Yanwang threw down the fare and rushed out.

Many fans and paparazzi surrounded the set, and he lowered the brim of his hat and quickly walked through the crowd. A staff member recognized him, opened their mouth in surprise, but was stopped by a look.

The filming location featured a Republican-era old house set.

Qi Yanwang stood in the shadows and saw Zhuo Huaimo behind the monitor at a glance –

He was wearing a simple white T-shirt and jeans, his hair a little longer than when he left. Right now, he was frowning as he explained the scene to the actress.

“The look of someone in love isn’t like this.”

Zhuo Huaimo gestured with the storyboard, “It needs to be more restrained, more…”

The actress suddenly smiled, her eyes sparkling as she stared at him from behind.

    “Did you understand or not?”

Zhuo Huaimo pretended to knock on her head, “The look of someone in love is…”

    “Understood!”

Su Wen suddenly jumped up, her eyes as bright as spotlights, “Totally understood!”

Zhuo Huaimo turned his head in confusion, but before he could say anything, he was pulled into a warm embrace.

    “How did you…”

Qi Yanwang cupped his face and kissed him.

The moment their lips met, the set exploded with cheers.

    “Wow~”

Someone started clapping, “President Qi’s demonstration was really good!”

The set instantly erupted. The script girl’s screams, the photographer’s shutter sounds, and the whistles rose and fell in a chorus.

    “You…”

When they separated, Zhuo Huaimo’s ears were red, “What happened?”

Qi Yanwang didn’t speak, he just hugged him tightly, as if trying to meld him into his bones and blood,

    “I just missed you.”

    “Cut!”

The assistant director suddenly shouted, “That’s a wrap! Director Zhuo’s demonstration was too perfect!”

Even louder laughter erupted from the set.

Zhuo Huaimo frantically pushed Qi Yanwang away, but his wrist was grabbed.

    “Everyone, take a one-hour break!”

He announced, his face red, and pulled Qi Yanwang quickly towards the lounge, adding as he turned back,

    “Don’t spread the photos! Otherwise…”

Qi Yanwang grabbed his hand and said to the girls behind him,

“Go ahead, Xingyue Media will protect you!”

    What does that mean?

    Are they going public?

Even louder cheers came from behind –

As soon as the door closed, Zhuo Huaimo was pinned against the wall.

Qi Yanwang’s breath brushed his neck, his voice hoarse,

    “I missed you so much!”

    “You’re not right.”

Zhuo Huaimo cupped his face, “What happened?”

    Qi Yanwang’s Adam’s apple bobbed.

How much he wanted to tell Zhuo Huaimo about what happened last night, how much he wanted to pour out his fear and anger, to tell him that even though nothing really happened, he still felt a strong sense of guilt. He was wrong, he would never drink again, never give anyone a chance!

He was incredibly afraid, like a thunderbolt hanging in his heart.

How afraid he was that once he knew, he would really leave him!

But in the end, he just shook his head,

    “I just… had a nightmare.”

Zhuo Huaimo’s expression softened, and he gently wiped the sweat from Qi Yanwang’s forehead,

“You’re so old, still afraid of nightmares?”

    “Afraid.”

Qi Yanwang grabbed his hand and pressed it against his heart, “I dreamt you didn’t want me anymore.”

    Zhuo Huaimo paused, tentatively asking,

    “More afraid than death?”

    “Yes!”

Qi Yanwang said firmly, pulling him into his arms,

“Living without you would be worse than death!”

In the face of love, people always say ethereal sweet words.

However, when death really comes, everyone will find that love is the most ethereal thing!

Disordered footsteps and whispers came from outside the lounge.

Zhuo Huaimo sighed, tracing Qi Yanwang’s outline with his fingertips,

“You suddenly running here, the company…”

    “Yu Fengran is watching.”

Qi Yanwang nuzzled his palm, “Let me stay for two days? Just two days.”

The monitor screen was still paused on the replay of just now.

The script girl secretly took a screenshot. In the photo, the moment Qi Yanwang lowered his head to kiss him, Zhuo Huaimo’s surprised wide eyes were filled with starlight.

That photo appeared in the CP supertopic that night, with the caption,

“Early Spring Set Leaks! President Qi chases his wife from a thousand miles away! Sweetness explodes!”

And at this moment, in the lounge, Qi Yanwang was burying his face in Zhuo Huaimo’s shoulder, greedily breathing in the scent that belonged to him.

Outside the window, the snow on Jade Dragon Snow Mountain sparkled in the sunlight, while inside the room, it was full of spring…

Night always comes particularly slowly in Lijiang Ancient City.

The afterglow of the setting sun still hung on the top of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, and the cobblestone streets were already lit with scattered lanterns.

“Director Zhuo, you’re finishing work early again today!”

The script girl handed over the call sheet with a smile, “Can you take a look at tomorrow’s schedule?”

Zhuo Huaimo took the form, frowning slightly, “It’s over?”

    “Everyone’s in good shape!”

The assistant director leaned over, winking, “President Qi is here, even the NG king got it in one take.”

Qi Yanwang was leaning back in a recliner flipping through the script. Hearing this, he looked up and winked at Zhuo Huaimo.

Sunlight filtered through the gaps in the plane tree leaves, casting dappled light on his face, like a child who had stolen candy.

    “You guys…”

Zhuo Huaimo’s ears burned, and he rolled up the call sheet and knocked the assistant director on the head, “So you’re usually deliberately trying to piss me off?”

    “How could we!”

The makeup artist walked past with her toolbox, “It’s a romance movie, it’s good to have a real CP to refer to! Isn’t this the power of love is too great – ouch!”

Zhuo Huaimo’s script accurately hit the back of her head.

The set immediately burst into laughter, and even the always serious director of photography couldn’t help but shake his head,

    “It’s good to be young.”

As dusk deepened, Qi Yanwang pulled Zhuo Huaimo away from the crew.

The two wore matching baseball caps and masks, walking slowly along the small road outside the ancient city.

The noise from the bar street in the distance could be faintly heard, which only made this quiet alley especially peaceful.

    “That kiss scene today,”

Qi Yanwang suddenly said, “The actress’s performance was still not right.”

Zhuo Huaimo glanced at him sideways, “What are President Qi’s insights?”

“It should be like this –”

Qi Yanwang suddenly pushed him against the old wall covered with vines, his fingertips gently caressing his jawline,

“First look at the lips, then look at the eyes, and finally…”

When the kiss landed, Zhuo Huaimo tasted the mint candy flavor lingering on Qi Yanwang’s lips.

The sound of tourists laughing and talking came from the distance, and he nervously tried to push Qi Yanwang’s chest, but his wrist was grabbed and pressed against the wall.

The leaves of the vines rustled, as if they were also laughing secretly.

    “Restrain yourself!”

When they separated, Zhuo Huaimo was out of breath, “What if someone takes a picture?”

Qi Yanwang smiled and rubbed his earlobe with the tip of his nose, “These past few days, the trending searches have been about the two of us!”

    “…”

Turning the corner of the alley, an inconspicuous teahouse lit up with warm yellow lights.

The proprietress was a local. Seeing two tall young men enter, she just smiled and pointed upstairs,

“The innermost room is still empty.”

The wooden stairs creaked, and the private room was furnished with simple low tables and cushions.

Outside the window, directly opposite was a century-old camellia tree. The flowering period had passed, but the dense branches and leaves perfectly blocked the view from the outside.

“How did you find this place?” Zhuo Huaimo looked around curiously.

Qi Yanwang’s tea-making posture was unexpectedly standard,

“The day before yesterday, when you were filming a night scene, I came out to scout the place.”

He handed over a teacup, “Try it, it’s said you can taste the flavor of the snow mountain.”

The tea soup was clear and bright, but the taste was unexpectedly mellow.

Zhuo Huaimo took a small sip, looking at the deepening night outside the window. The lights of the ancient city lit up one after another, like scattered stars falling into the human world.

“Are you going back tomorrow?” he suddenly asked.

Qi Yanwang, who was peeling an orange, paused upon hearing this,

“Yeah, Yu Fengran is about to kill someone.”

He broke off a segment and handed it to Zhuo Huaimo’s mouth, “But I can come again on the weekend.”

The sweetness and sourness of the orange burst on his tongue.

Zhuo Huaimo lowered his head and played with the teacup, his voice very soft, “Actually, you don’t have to keep running back and forth, we’ll be done filming in another half month.”

    “I want to come.”

Qi Yanwang suddenly grabbed his hand, “Watching you shine on set is more interesting than anything else.”

The reflection in the teacup shook.

Zhuo Huaimo remembered the scene he filmed this morning – Qi Yanwang sat next to the monitor, his gaze so focused that he seemed to want to engrave every frame in his mind.

At the time, the photographer had jokingly said that President Qi’s gaze was even more in character than the male lead.

    “Silly.”

He held Qi Yanwang’s fingers back, noticing a fresh wound on his hand,

    “How did you get this?”

Qi Yanwang quickly withdrew his hand, “I cut myself helping you fix the props this morning.”

Zhuo Huaimo suddenly laughed as if he remembered something,

“Do you know what the crew is calling you now?”

    “What?”

    “Human Charger.”

Zhuo Huaimo couldn’t help but smile, “They say that as long as President Qi comes to visit, the whole team’s energy is immediately fully charged.”

Qi Yanwang took the opportunity to put his arm around his shoulder and kiss his forehead.

“Then let me charge you more, for a lifetime.”

Qi Yanwang’s weekly trips back and forth became what Zhuo Huaimo longed for most, and also became the variable he worried about the most…
