    Chapter 6 Confrontation “Can’t I?”

It was already past midnight when Shen Yan arrived home. He took out his key from his pocket, but his expression suddenly changed the moment his hand touched the door.

The door was pushed open with force. When Shen Yan saw the man on the sofa, a hint of ruthlessness flashed in his eyes. He strode forward, snatched the photo from the other man’s hand, and said coldly, “Who allowed you to rummage through my things?”

The person being questioned was wearing a black suit, impeccably dressed, exuding the maturity and charm of a successful man. His appearance was also extremely outstanding, but upon closer inspection, one would notice a hint of coldness occasionally revealed in his calm eyes.

Shen Linzhi’s hand was scratched by the photo, leaving a bloodstain. Shen Yan ignored it and turned away indifferently, saying, “Get out.”

“What’s with this attitude?” Shen Linzhi leisurely wiped the blood from his hand with a tissue, and said, “Did you go to that alley again? How many times have I told you to stay away from those kinds of people?”

“What kind of people?” Shen Yan sneered, “People who abandon their critically ill wives?”

Upon hearing this, Shen Linzhi’s pupils trembled slightly, as if he had fallen into an unwanted memory. He was silent for a long time, unexpectedly softening his tone, “How has Zhong Yiqiu been recently?”

Like a snapped thread, the emotions Shen Yan had been suppressing since entering the door instantly erupted. He grabbed Shen Linzhi’s collar fiercely, forced himself closer, and stared directly into his eyes, saying each word clearly, “How can you have the nerve to ask? How dare you ask me how she’s doing in front of me?”

The atmosphere plummeted to its lowest point. In the late August night, the room felt suffocatingly cold. Shen Linzhi widened his eyes in disbelief, his face filled with astonishment, unable to utter a word for a long time.

Shen Yan trembled all over, his fierce and cold gaze fixed on Shen Linzhi. Finally, he disgustedly released his grip, “Get out.”

Their eyes met, and Shen Linzhi couldn’t help but be lost in thought. He should have known that the silent, withdrawn teenager he remembered was gone. The current Shen Yan, whether in temperament, strength, or hostility towards him, far exceeded his initial expectations.

The heavy sound of the door closing echoed through the room. The man inside stirred slightly, and in the extreme silence, slowly picked up the photos from the ground.

Late at night, as the last streetlights on the street went out, the teenager on the bed stared blankly at the ceiling, as if swallowed by endless darkness. Tears silently streamed down, soaking the pillow.

“I believe that after yesterday, you all know that the teachers are very responsible.” Liang Yin closed the language textbook, leaving a pure smile for the students below, “We graded the test papers overnight, and the results of the opening exam will be out this afternoon.”

    The whole class: “…”

There’s really no need to be this responsible.

After class, Cha Fei’ang deliberately dragged out a sigh. Only when someone asked him what was wrong did he say with a mixture of Feelings and sadness, “Don’t be fooled by how casual this exam seems. I heard from a senior that the scores will be sent to our parents’ phones as soon as they’re released.”

Cha Fei’ang had always been confident in his voice, and even if he lowered the volume, people around him could still hear clearly.

“Crap, no way, I wrote nonsense the whole time.” A boy in front turned around nervously.

“It’s the same for everyone, it’s the same.” Cha Fei’ang waved his hand to comfort him, “Xu Jing isn’t panicking, why should we panic?”

People on the same level, no matter what environment they are in, will eventually be divided into “different classes.” Cha Fei’ang always believed that studying was like playing games: talent was the money spent in the early stages, and diligence was the skill in the later stages.

After the opening exam, he naturally classified Xu Jing, who slept through the exam, into his category: someone who had spent money and had some skill. Although he usually acted carelessly, his final grades wouldn’t be bad.

“You agree, right?” Cha Fei’ang turned his head and smiled, “Our warrior Xu?”

But Xu Jing didn’t even lift his eyelids when he heard this, simply humming in response.

This reaction surprised Cha Fei’ang for a few seconds. Although he liked to joke around, he also knew how to read people’s expressions, so he immediately hid his smile and turned his head without saying anything more.

Xu Jing was too lazy to explain that he was just feeling tired from the recent change in his sleep schedule, and the humid weather only made him feel more irritable.

The next class was Zhou Yan’s. Lu Hui had already started distributing today’s homework in the front. Xu Jing was about to go outside to get water when he got up, but saw that the person by the window was still lie on the desk.

The same posture as on the registration day.

Was he really that sleepy? He’s been sleeping for half the day.

Xu Jing assumed that this person hadn’t adjusted his sleep schedule either and couldn’t help but sneer in his heart when he thought about what the other person said last night.

Although Zhou Yan was nearing retirement, his speech was clear, his pronunciation was accurate, and he only taught for fifteen minutes each class, so he never wasted time. He always had a stern look on his face, which made him seem even more strict. Even though the students complained about his strange rules behind his back every day, they all had to obediently follow them during his classes.

    But there were also exceptions.

For example, Xu Jing, who had just returned after getting water.

Don’t let his age and lack of glasses fool you, his eyesight was actually better than many young people. Before class, Zhou Yan’s gaze was fixed on Xu Jing, who was coming in from the back door. The whole class became even quieter.

They were all silently praying for this unlucky classmate, but the person involved was completely unaware. Just as Xu Jing flipped his math book to Chapter Three, he heard Zhou Yan’s voice coming from the front, “Xu Jing, come up and do the second to last problem from today’s homework.”

Cha Fei’ang turned his head and gave him a “you’re done for” look. Zhou Ji also wanted to help, but felt powerless and forced out the sentence, “If you don’t know, choose C.”

    Xu Jing: “…”

And at this moment, the person by the window was also honored to be selected by Zhou Yan.

“Shen Yan, you do the last problem.”

    The class obviously became restless.

Shen Yan and Xu Jing became famous in Linhe No.1 High School on the night of registration. It started when someone broke the news in the freshman group, saying that two incredibly handsome guys had come for the opening day. Initially, no one cared, until this person posted stolen photos, and the freshman group immediately erupted. Everyone in Class Four except Zhou Ji knew about this.

The two looked at each other as they walked onto the podium. The sudden eye contact caused both hands holding the chalk to become a little stiff.

The two problems Zhou Yan asked them to do were the content they were going to learn today. Asking them to do it before even starting the lesson was clearly making things difficult. Moreover, in order to ensure the college entrance examination rate and the grades of the previous students, the difficulty of the homework and tests at Linhe No.1 High School was generally high. The last two problems he mentioned, one was an application problem, and one was a multiple choice, and the questions alone were five or six lines long. People below, except for a few who were very interested in mathematics, gave up after reading them twice and didn’t want to waste time, and resolutely started previewing.

Both of them wrote very quickly, starting to solve the problems almost at the same time. The sound of chalk on the blackboard crackled, as if they were competing.

Xu Jing’s problem had fewer steps than Shen Yan’s. Just as he was about to go down after writing the final answer, he accidentally glanced at the dark circles under Shen Yan’s eyes. Not only that, but the other person seemed different from usual in other ways today.

Although Shen Yan’s skin was fair and his eyes were narrow, his appearance never had anything to do with the word “gentle.” His facial features were distinct, his contours were even more pronounced, the line of his double eyelids was a little deep, and his high, straight nose accentuated his prominent brow bones, making his entire face very aggressive.

Xu Jing was stunned when he realized that he was actually analyzing Shen Yan’s appearance and had ultimately come to the conclusion that this person looked good.

What was he doing? Was he sick?

Zhou Yan didn’t comment on whether their answers were correct. He still taught for fifteen minutes as usual and then left the time to the students.

It wasn’t until after class that Zhou Yan said, “These two problems were the final problems from last year’s second mock exam. The answers written on the board are correct, and the solution processes are also complete. If you have any questions, you can ask these two classmates.”

“Damn, that’s amazing?” Cha Fei’ang crossed out his own wrong answer, and suddenly felt a sense of guilt for looking down on others.

“Brother Jing, please accept me as your disciple.”

    “It’s too early.”

Cha Fei’ang “Ah” said, asked, “What do you mean?”

“Your worship.” Xu Jing knocked on the test paper next to him and said calmly, “You can save it until the results come out.”

    Cha Fei’ang petrified.

Hearing Zhou Yan mention the second mock exam, the class immediately paid attention to the two problems. A circle of people around Xu Jing took the lead and understood the gist of the explanation after listening to it twice impatiently. After that, Xu Jing didn’t solve any more problems, because everyone who came to ask eventually went to Zhou Ji and Cha Fei’ang.

Zhou Ji seemed a little shy, and his face turned red after saying a few words. Cha Fei’ang, on the other hand, became more and more enthusiastic as he explained, and sometimes even acted like a teacher. Especially when facing girls, he deliberately stopped several times to ask them how he was explaining things.

It wasn’t until Xu Jing Tsk behind him that Cha Fei’ang restrained himself.

Liang Yin didn’t know when she had posted the report card on the back wall, but someone suddenly noticed it as they passed by and shouted, “Oh my god, the results are out!”

Then more than half of the people surrounded it, and the class suddenly became noisy. Xu Jing’s location was very close to that place, and he was almost deafened by their noise. After hesitating for a long time, he got up and walked to another corner.

Shen Yan was still as indifferent as ever, propping his head up wearily while sitting in his seat. He seemed to be writing something, and his pen moved very quickly. Xu Jing leaned against the window and took a few glances, discovering that this person didn’t even use scratch paper when doing math. He wrote the answer to a complicated multiple-choice problem in less than half a minute.

In the blink of an eye, Shen Yan flipped to the next page, but he had chosen ten C’s for the previous fifteen multiple-choice questions. Xu Jing sneered in his heart, thinking that he might have really written them so quickly by following Zhou Ji’s method.

A low, cold voice broke away from the noisy sounds not far away and unexpectedly entered Xu Jing’s ears, “Do you like my answers?”

Xu Jing turned his head slightly, just in time to meet the eyes that were looking at him. He replied with a look of disdain, “So-so.”

Shen Yan put down his pen and asked, “You’re not going to look at the grades, but you’re coming over here to look at my answers?”

Xu Jing was a little annoyed, “Can’t I?”

    Shen Yan: “…”

It seemed that was his line.
