Chapter 54: The Moment of Life and Death – Little Stone and Little Rose’s Gratitude…
The tall man’s cry for help alerted the entire small village. Ji An could hear the sound of many people running towards them, and there seemed to be mutated beasts as well. At the same time, the people responsible for the transfer, mentioned by the squinty-eyed man, seemed to have arrived. Ji An heard the roar of car engines getting closer.
Ji An, holding a bow and arrows formed from mental power, took the lead. When the first man appeared, Ji An didn’t even give him a chance to react before shooting two arrows. The man didn’t even release his ability before being brought down by Ji An.
Ji An roared, “If you don’t want to be turned into a human pig, run faster! Stick close to me!”
The children, one by one, ran at their fastest speed, following Ji An closely. Yuan Ming’an stayed behind to fend off the people who were constantly catching up.
Just as Ji An led the children around a corner, a mutated wolfdog, about three meters long, charged towards them. It opened its blood-filled maw wide, its fangs bared. Ji An could almost smell the foul, fishy stench from its mouth.
Ji An had just shot an arrow when four or five more mutated wolfdogs ran out from behind it.
The leading mutated wolfdog was shot in the head by an arrow and fell to the ground, but the other mutated wolfdogs had already charged close.
These children were completely powerless against these mutated wolfdogs; facing them meant certain death.
“Ahhh! Brother Ji An, Mama Yuan, help!” The children cried out in panic.
Ji An’s single bow and arrows couldn’t defend against so many mutated wolfdogs. He could only withdraw the bow and arrows and turn his mental power into a large net to block in front of the children, netting the charging mutated wolfdogs.
The mutated wolfdogs rushed over, one by one crashing into the mental power net. They butted and crashed into the mental power net, their bared fangs viciously tearing and fiercely pawing at it.
Ji An could feel his sea of consciousness being violently impacted by these beasts, a stabbing pain in waves. The children in the orphanage were crying and shouting hysterically out of fear.
A few children, in their fear, ran wildly and ended up running out of the group.
“Come back, it’s dangerous over there!” Little Stone shouted!
“You, come here quickly! If you don’t want to die, stick close to Brother Ji An! If they catch you, you’ll be turned into a human pig. It’s better to be bitten to death by the mutated big dogs!” Little Rose roared, and successfully stopped two children who were panicking and running randomly.
But one child, terrified, still rushed out of the group, running blindly towards the human traffickers’ den. Little Stone looked at Ji An and Yuan Ming’an who were fighting, and could only rush forward himself to try and chase that child back.
“Little Stone!” Little Rose shouted anxiously.
Little Stone shouted, “Don’t come out, stick close to Brother Ji An, I’ll go get him back.”
“Come back, Little Stone, come back!” Ji An, seeing the situation, quickly shouted for him. At this moment, one who ran back was one lost.
As expected, the child didn’t run far before being caught by a human trafficker who had caught up, using an ability.
The child cried loudly, attempting to resist, kicking and hitting the human trafficker. The human trafficker had no patience with him like Ji An and the others did. With one use of an ability, the child went limp and silent, his fate unknown, whether alive or dead.
When Little Stone saw this, he turned around and ran back. The human traffickers immediately chased. Little Stone was small and had small steps, so he couldn’t outrun an adult at all; being caught was only a matter of a few steps.
Ji An’s mental power level was insufficient; he could only transform it into one weapon at a time, unable to be in two places at once. He could only quickly retract the net.
The mutated dogs that were frantically tearing at the mental power net were netted from above, and then the threads of the mental power net became thicker and stronger. The entire mental power net began to slowly tighten, gradually constricting into the mutated dogs’ flesh and fur. The mutated dogs cried out in agony.
This was still far from enough. After the mental power net tightened to its limit, it twisted like wringing clothes. The mutated dogs inside the mental power net were twisted into pieces, blood splattering, hind legs and dog heads scattered on the ground.
Ji An didn’t have time to look at the results of the battle and quickly threw the mental power net towards Little Stone.
And he himself, after a run-up, kicked off the wall, used the momentum to leap violently, and ran two more steps to reach Little Stone.
He bent down, scooped up Little Stone, tucked him under his arm, and charged forward, shouting as he ran, “Children, stick close to me, don’t fall behind!”
Little Rose, seeing Little Stone rescued, grabbed the two companions she had stopped and used all her might to follow Ji An forward.
The mental power net behind them blocked some of the human traffickers who had caught up, and another part was fighting Yuan Ming’an. Yuan Ming’an’s ability level was low, so she dared not fight head-on and could only retreat while fighting.
Fortunately, Ji An’s mental power net bought her time and blocked some of the human traffickers, gaining a chance to escape. Soon, she caught up.
Among those human traffickers was a high-level Power User. He unleashed a powerful attack that directly blasted a hole in Ji An’s mental power net. Little Stone, whom Ji An was holding, groaned and spat out a mouthful of blood.
“Brother Ji An!” Little Stone called out in panic.
Ji An wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and comforted him, “I’m okay, everyone run fast!”
Ji An’s mental power net was destroyed, and human traffickers continued to stream through the hole, while even more directly attacked the mental power net, creating new holes.
Ji An’s mental power net was already tattered and posed no danger to the pursuing human traffickers. Leaving it there would only cause Ji An’s mental power to suffer more serious trauma. Ji An simply withdrew it.
These children had short arms and legs; how could they outrun a group of adults? One child on Little Rose’s left accidentally ran too fast and fell to the ground.
In the blink of an eye, the group had left the little boy far behind, and the human traffickers were already catching up.
The child, terrified, cried while scrambling forward. Little Rose noticed and turned back to help the little boy up.
Just then, the human traffickers arrived, reaching out to grab the little boy. The little boy grabbed Little Rose’s hand, suddenly pushed Little Rose towards the human traffickers, then got up and ran away without looking back.
Little Rose’s expression of disbelief froze on her face; she had been caught by the human trafficker.
Little Stone, who had been silently watching Little Rose’s movements, struggled in Ji An’s arms, trying to get down. “Little Rose, Brother Ji An, Little Rose is caught.”
Yuan Ming’an saw it too, but she was currently protecting other children, entangled in combat with several Power Users.
Little Stone struggled too hard, and Ji An couldn’t hold him, so he had to put him down. He grabbed Little Stone’s arm and said, “You keep running forward, don’t look back. I’ll go save Little Rose. If you come over, you’ll just add trouble.”
After giving instructions, Ji An rushed back.
He released his mental power from his sea of consciousness again, this time transforming it into a giant sword.
Ji An gripped the hilt and slashed down with the sword. This single strike used almost all of his mental power ability.
The sword’s entire body seemed to flash with a halo, and the descending momentum seemed capable of splitting mountains, shaking seas, destroying the heavens and earth. The sword energy was like a rainbow, forming a curtain of light. The strong sword energy directly sent several low-level Power Users flying.
The giant sword went straight for the head of the man holding Little Stone and instantly split him in half. One half of his body was still holding Little Rose.
Little Rose shrieked in terror. Ji An turned around and slashed out with the sword again. The sword’s speed was so fast that it left trails of afterimages, wounding countless people consecutively. The air was filled with the painful cries of the human traffickers.
Only a few high-level Power Users dodged Ji An’s sword and managed to stand steady.
“Challenging across levels, a mental-type Power User?” Some smart human traffickers reacted. “Are you from the Jing Shi Base Command?”
They had heard that the Jing Shi Base Command was secretly cultivating a group of combat-oriented mental-type Power Users, among whom the most formidable one was the one who, on the day of the M Country execution, continuously shot three arrows that turned a Power User into an idiot.
Ji An grabbed Little Rose, aimed an arrow at the man’s head, and shot, not caring if it hit, then turned and ran.
“Quick, don’t let him run! This person is likely from the Jing Shi Base Command. If he gets away, we’ll all die!” The man, who had dodged Ji An’s arrow, immediately shouted.
All the human traffickers heard this and became even more frenzied.
Ji An was both holding Little Rose and fighting, which was very difficult. The human traffickers had realized that Ji An was the main force and were basically all Siege him.
He had to fight and protect the children while also dodging the attacks of the human traffickers. It was inevitable that he couldn’t take care of everything at once.
A human trafficker behind Ji An, taking advantage of Ji An’s distraction, released an ability towards Ji An. This was a killing move; if it hit Ji An, Ji An would die instantly.
The human trafficker’s face was flushed with excitement. He seemed to foresee Ji An’s death because Ji An hadn’t noticed his sneak attack at all. By the time Ji An noticed, it would be too late.
And just at this moment, a tiger’s roar shook the land, and a huge mutated blue-eyed winged tiger descended from the sky. Its heavy paw struck down, directly swatting away the attacking Power User, causing the ability to be released off target and explode beside Ji An’s feet.
The blue-eyed winged tiger descended from the sky, landing beside Ji An. It lowered its head, picked him up with its mouth, and threw him onto its back with force. When Ji An fell back after a three-hundred-sixty-degree flip in the air, he was sitting on the furry back of the mutated tiger.
Before he could even sit steady, the blue-eyed winged tiger threw a small furball into the air. Ji An quickly reached out to catch it and caught a wounded furball. It was the small furball Ji An had saved earlier by manipulating spider silk.
The little furball was listless, on its last breath, clearly breathing out more than in, obviously not going to last much longer. Perhaps it would die in the next second.
Ji An had released the mother tiger, but it seemed he hadn’t saved the little tiger. However, the mother tiger had indeed saved his life; he owed the blue-eyed winged tiger a life.
Ji An had to save this little tiger cub, and he had to do it now. If the little tiger cub stopped breathing and died, even the spiritual spring water couldn’t bring it back to life. Fortunately, this mutated tiger cub was still a young cub and not high level, otherwise, it was questionable whether the spiritual spring water would be effective on it.
Ji An quickly took out a bottle of undiluted spiritual spring water from the spiritual spring, pinched the little tiger cub’s mouth open, and poured it in.
The little tiger cub’s nose twitched; it seemed to smell that this was something good that could save its life. The little fellow, who was originally on the verge of death, actually managed to muster up its strength and swallowed large gulps according to Ji An’s force.
The blue-eyed winged tiger ran and fought, seemingly feeling something as well. It glanced back at its back and then slowed down, apparently trying to stay as steady as possible so that Ji An could feed more life-saving stuff to the little tiger cub.
However, when the blue-eyed winged tiger slowed down, the human traffickers had an easier time aiming. An ability shot over and hit Ji An’s arm directly.
Ji An cried out in pain, and his hand loosened. The mineral water bottle containing the spiritual spring water flew out.
The blue-eyed winged tiger seemed to know that it was something good that could save its child’s life. It actually turned its head directly, leaped violently, and accurately bit the mineral water bottle, continuing to run.
Ji An couldn’t help but sigh at the intelligence of the mutated beast. This blue-eyed winged tiger actually knew that biting the bottle body directly would spill the water. It was biting the mouth of the mineral water bottle.
Ji An checked the condition of the little tiger cub in his hand. It had drunk several large gulps just now and now looked much more energetic; it should not die. Noticing Ji An looking at it, it even made weak meowing sounds towards Ji An.
Ji An stuffed the little furball into Little Rose’s arms and instructed, “Hold it tightly!”
“Okay.” Little Rose knew that the little tiger cub’s mother had saved them and immediately said, “As long as I don’t die, I won’t lose it.”
Ji An nodded casually, summoned his mental power ability, and re-entered the battle. The man and the tiger cooperated tacitly, and for a while, they managed to carve out a bloody path.
If it were just them, they would have already escaped, but unfortunately, they had a group of children to protect. Even with the addition of a mutated blue-eyed winged tiger, they were fighting very awkwardly, stretched thin in all directions!
“Kill them!” Someone among the human traffickers shouted loudly, “That mental-type Power User among them is a combat-oriented mental-type Power User secretly cultivated by the Jing Shi Base. We absolutely cannot let him escape, otherwise, we’ll all die!”
“Brothers, we don’t need this batch of goods anymore. Don’t capture them alive, but we must leave their bodies behind, especially that mental-type Power User!”
These human traffickers no longer planned to capture Ji An and the others alive. They only wanted to leave their corpses behind to cover up their actions.
“Listen to me, everyone, let’s use our abilities together to attack and leave their corpses behind!”
“Okay!”
The human traffickers responded and simultaneously released their abilities towards the sky where Ji An and the others were. A variety of abilities crisscrossed in the sky, weaving into a giant net of abilities that covered the sky, large enough to engulf the entire area.
Ji An and the others were under the giant net of abilities, feeling as if the sky instantly turned dark, as if night had descended in the blink of an eye, just like the dark fate they were about to face.
The dark, heavy giant net of abilities was like thick dark clouds pressing down with world-destroying might. The children cried out in terror, like frightened little deer.
Little Stone, who had been panicking, was calm at this moment. He held Little Rose and suddenly smiled, “Little Rose, this time feels like stolen time, so happy, so unreal. Even if I die now, I have no regrets after having such a happy time. Compared to falling into the hands of those human traffickers, I’d rather just die like this.”
Little Rose wiped the tears from her face and said firmly, “I’m not afraid either. Dying with you, Brother Ji An, and Mama Yuan, we’ll have a group of us on the path to the underworld, so I won’t be afraid to walk.”
“Brother Ji An, thank you,” Little Rose said with tears in her eyes, but indeed smiling. “Thank you for giving us such happy days. And I’m sorry for getting you involved. These people’s target was originally us children, but because you saved us and built an orphanage for us, you ended up risking your life.”
Little Stone also said guiltily, “We are very sorry, Brother Ji An. If there is a next life or another life, Little Stone and Little Rose will work like oxen and horses to repay you!”
