    Chapter 14: Show-off Monster, Revenge

Chen Chen’s face, which was otherwise somewhat passable, twisted with anger. Song Pengcheng, who was sitting in the passenger seat and was already fuming because Ji An had stolen the base’s supplies and then wasn’t found at Jing Shi United Base, directly exploded.

He was a strength-type power user. He opened the door, got out, and slammed the door shut in anger, directly denting both sides of the car door inwards.

This car, before The Apocalypse, was a high-end model worth over a million, a car that Song Pengcheng, a laborer, couldn’t afford even working for two lifetimes. But now it was ruined by Song Pengcheng slamming the door. It was a bit of a waste, but to be honest, Song Pengcheng felt a little satisfied inside.

It was as if he had finally gotten revenge for being a timid laborer before The Apocalypse, being scolded by his boss, and watching rich second-generation guys switch women one after another while he didn’t even have a girlfriend. Song Pengcheng never thought that his inability to find a girlfriend had anything to do with himself; it was all the women’s problem.

Those women were gold diggers; they couldn’t see anything but money, and they didn’t know how good honest men like him were.

Song Pengcheng walked down in a rage, heading straight towards Gu Jinsheng, and yelled, “Today I’m gonna show you who you’re messing with! Kid, remember, you can eat whatever you want, but you can’t just say whatever you want!”

Chen Chen sat motionless in the driver’s seat, watching Song Pengcheng show off in front of Gu Jinsheng with cold eyes, a hint of disdain and contempt for Gu Jinsheng in his gaze.

Song Pengcheng walked to the front of the car, raised his fist, and slammed it fiercely towards the hood of the car in front of the driver’s seat.

Song Pengcheng originally wanted to use this method to intimidate Gu Jinsheng first, and then drag the scared and trembling person out of the car to teach them a lesson. It was like a cat playing with a mouse, that kind of relaxed teasing. This was Song Pengcheng’s new hobby since awakening his ability.

Unfortunately, this time Song Pengcheng encountered a tough opponent. When his fist was raised high and ready to strike downwards, Gu Jinsheng, sitting in the driver’s seat with an expressionless face, slowly extended an arm from the open car window.

He didn’t even stick his head out to look, just pointed at Song Pengcheng with a casual attitude. A thunder dragon, as thick as a baby’s arm and flashing with electric light, appeared in the sky. It writhed and roared, rushing straight towards Song Pengcheng.

The moment the thunder dragon bit onto Song Pengcheng, Song Pengcheng immediately started shaking frantically as if he had been electrocuted. He let out whimpering groans, rolled his eyes back, and his hair stood on end.

Seeing this terrible sight, Gu Jinsheng just sneered, casually retracted his finger, and the thunder dragon disappeared.

Song Pengcheng lay on the ground, unconscious, occasionally twitching. It was unclear if he was alive or dead!

Chen Chen, who was in the car, couldn’t sit still now. He no longer watched coldly but quickly ran down to check Song Pengcheng’s vital signs. At the same time, some power users in the cars behind also got out to check the situation.

Song Pengcheng was still breathing, but he was severely electrocuted. This level of electric shock would require even a power user with strong physical recovery abilities to recuperate for at least a month.

They didn’t even know how badly his internal organs were injured, but fortunately, their Base had a healing-type power user. Even if Song Pengcheng was severely injured internally, he could be healed quickly.

The healing-type power user Chen Chen thought of was Tang Tang; he didn’t know that both of Tang Tang’s abilities were fake.

After the necklace was taken back by Ji An, Tang Tang only told Chen Chen that her space-type ability was fake, but she didn’t mention a word about the healing-type ability.

Chen Chen didn’t ask, mainly because he simply couldn’t believe that both of Tang Tang’s abilities were actually faked.

At this time, Chen Chen still held a hopeful attitude as he helped Song Pengcheng up, thinking that healing-type power users were rare, most of them had defected to large bases, and it was truly a blessing for a small base like theirs to have one.

“Don’t you think that’s going too far, Your Excellency?” Chen Chen looked at Gu Jinsheng coldly. He was also very wary of someone who could easily take care of Song Pengcheng, a Tier 2 Peak Power User, with just a wave of his hand. However, he couldn’t show weakness and forced himself to appear calm on the surface, even trying to maintain the supreme dignity of his position as the Base Commander.

Just then, his gaze passed through the front windshield and saw Ji An sitting in the back of the driver’s seat, watching everything with an expressionless, cold gaze.

Chen Chen was stunned for a moment, followed by surging rage.

He simply couldn’t believe that Ji An could be so cruel. Stealing the Base’s supplies was one thing, but he actually saw his former comrades-in-arms getting struck like this and remained indifferent.

Chen Chen almost roared, “Ji An, Ji An is actually in your car! And you lied saying you didn’t see him! What, do you intend to become enemies with my Third Base?”

Gu Jinsheng’s face was expressionless, and he didn’t even bother to change his look when facing Chen Chen’s provocation. He couldn’t be bothered to say a single unnecessary word and directly raised his hand to unleash another thunder dragon at Chen Chen.

The thunder dragon bit onto Chen Chen, and only then did Chen Chen realize that the power of the lightning was far stronger than he had imagined. He had no room to resist at all.

Just now, it wasn’t that Chen Chen didn’t retaliate, but his counterattack was directly dispersed by Gu Jinsheng’s lightning.

Poor Song Pengcheng, who was already semi-conscious from being struck. Now, implicated by Chen Chen, he was struck again, almost to death.

Kong Zhongcheng rolled his eyes widely and whispered to Ji An, “The boss is showing off again. You don’t know that materializing lightning also consumes ability power.

Normally, our boss would just use a simple, brutal, and most primitive lightning strike to save ability power.

I don’t know what’s gotten into him today, making such a flashy thing.”

Miss Wan Xueying, sitting in the passenger seat, moved away from Kong Zhongcheng, lest she be implicated if that guy was struck by lightning later.

Ji An saw the thunder dragon in the air freeze for a moment, and the lightning power seemed to weaken slightly. Then, the lightning power suddenly erupted even more intensely. It seemed to be angered, roaring as it charged towards Chen Chen’s team’s cars.

Wherever the thunder dragon passed, it spat out a lightning ball, smashing one car after another, directly causing the four cars in Chen Chen’s team to explode on the spot.

There were still power users in some cars. Fortunately, they jumped out in time, otherwise they would have been instantly blown to heaven. But even with timely reactions, some people were still injured, although they were only minor injuries, negligible compared to Song Pengcheng and Chen Chen.

“Commander Chen, Commander Chen.” Someone ran over to help Chen Chen up and called out to him several times.

Chen Chen was a Tier 3 Peak Power User after all. Although severely injured, he quickly woke up, maintaining a sliver of clarity.

Wan Xueying stuck her head out of the car window, looking very amiable and approachable, and asked with a smile, “Can we leave now?”

Wan Xueying thought this Chen Chen would not jabber anymore, but unexpectedly Chen Chen completely ignored her question and looked directly at Ji An in the car.

At this point, Chen Chen was struggling to speak, coughing up blood with every word. But he still wore a very affectionate expression as he looked at Ji An, as if deeply hurt by betrayal, and asked Ji An, “A’An, are you really so cruel? We’ve fought side by side in The Apocalypse for seven years, loved each other for seven years. Do you really have no attachment at all?”

In just one sentence, Chen Chen had coughed up who knows how much blood. The power user supporting him was moved by Chen Chen’s deep affection and looked at Ji An as if he were a scumbag, wishing they could get justice for Chen Chen.

At the same time, everyone in the car looked towards Ji An, including Kong Zhongcheng in the driver’s seat.

In The Apocalypse, it was no longer strange for men to love men; it had become commonplace.

What probably shocked everyone was the love-hate relationship between Ji An and the Third Base Commander.

From the moment they met until now, Gu Jinsheng, who had spoken only a few words, directly asked, “You two were in that kind of relationship?”

Ji An didn’t answer. Gu Jinsheng seemed to find the answer himself from Ji An’s silence, and then inexplicably took off his protective suit hood and goggles, revealing that handsome face like an ancient Greek deity.

Gu Jinsheng’s face was truly handsome, not in the pretty-boy sense of handsomeness. Rather, his features were distinct, his face deep and three-dimensional, his angles sharp, a kind of aggressive handsomeness.

His handsomeness was flamboyant, sharp and unveiled!

Ji An was momentarily entranced, although Ji An felt this person might be crazy, he had to admit he was truly handsome.

“A’An, come back, come back to the Base, come back to me. I can forgive everything that happened in the past.” Chen Chen seemed afraid that Ji An had concerns and added, “Don’t worry, I will give the Base a reasonable explanation, as long as you are willing to come back. I really don’t want to lose you!”

Ji An looked at Chen Chen coldly. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to lose him, but rather that he didn’t want to lose the space necklace in his hand and the supplies inside.

Before, Ji An’s mental power was exhausted and he couldn’t use it, but after a few days of rest, it had recovered.

Moreover, Ji An discovered that his mental power had not only recovered but had also directly jumped three small stages, crossing three small levels, and upgraded directly to a Tier 3 Initial Mental-type Power User.

Ji An was originally able to control across tiers. Now that he and Chen Chen were at the same ability level, he could attempt mental control over Chen Chen.

However, mentally controlling Chen Chen wasn’t very interesting; he didn’t want him to die now. He wanted him to live slowly and suffer.

Ji An just wanted to plant a mental suggestion on Chen Chen. This was a new skill he acquired after awakening his Tier 3 ability.

Chen Chen was already staring intently at Ji An, which made it convenient for Ji An to use mental control.

He leaned forward slightly and stared back intently. Ji An’s eyes were pitch black. As Chen Chen looked at them, he felt like he was looking into a deep starry sky.

The starry sky was beautiful, with countless stars twinkling at him. He felt dizzy within it.

As he became dizzy, Chen Chen’s eyes began to lose focus; his gaze became unfocused, dim, and vacant.

Ji An’s clear and cold voice echoed throughout Chen Chen’s world, “Your ability will never be able to upgrade in this lifetime. Forever and ever, until death, you will not be able to advance to a Tier 4 Power User! Understand?”

“No, I don’t want to…” Whether it was because Chen Chen’s mental power was strong, or because his desire to advance to a Tier 4 Power User was too intense, his mental power fluctuated, resisting strongly.

Chen Chen struggled too fiercely, almost breaking free from Ji An’s mental control. It was only when Ji An increased the intensity again, using almost all his mental power, that he gradually regained control over Chen Chen, causing Chen Chen to slowly quiet down.

Chen Chen replied like a puppet, “I understand.”

Hearing this affirmative answer, Ji An almost immediately released the mental control. Then, he fell backward, supported by Kong Zhongcheng, who was quick-eyed and quick-handed, preventing him from falling. He was drenched in sweat, his forehead dripping. He looked as if he had just been pulled out of the water.

At the same time, Chen Chen also broke free from the hazy mental state. Ji An did not erase his memory; Chen Chen remembered everything.

Chen Chen asked in disbelief, “A’An, you actually put a mental suggestion on me!”

“You just recovered your mental power, and you dare to exhaust it again, you’re really bold!” Kong Zhongcheng almost blurted out at the same time as Chen Chen, “But speaking of it, you’re probably the most formidable Mental-type Power User I’ve ever seen. You can even curse across tiers!”

Kong Zhongcheng shook his head and said, “You know, people can play with anything, even poop or pee, but never play with emotions.

That really drives people crazy; they’ll do anything.

Never upgrading, so ruthless, much more ruthless than directly killing someone. Terrifying!”

Chen Chen didn’t expect Ji An’s Mental-type ability to be so formidable, reaching the point where he could cast a mental suggestion on him across tiers.

He was even more unable to believe that Ji An would place such a vicious mental suggestion on him. This was The Apocalypse; no one knew better than Ji An what abilities meant.

Everyone’s abilities were upgrading, even the zombies were evolving. If his ability didn’t upgrade and remained stuck, how could he survive in The Apocalypse? How could he keep his position as the Base Commander?

Chen Chen truly started to collapse at this point, “Ji An, how could you do this to me? Didn’t you say you loved me the most in this life, and that you would protect me no matter what happened?

And you awakened a Mental-type ability, and it’s so powerful, why didn’t you tell me?”

If he had told him earlier, he would have made a different choice.

With Ji An having such a powerful Mental-type ability, how could he not secure his position as the commander of the Third Base?

Ji An lay in Kong Zhongcheng’s arms without answering; he was too weak. Repeatedly exhausting his mental power made it unbearable, and his head began to hurt again.

The front door opened, and Gu Jinsheng got out of the car, scaring Chen Chen, who seemed almost dead from his injuries, back to life. Thinking Gu Jinsheng was going to hit him, he jumped back several steps.

However, Gu Jinsheng didn’t even spare him a glance. Instead, he opened the rear car door, kicked Kong Zhongcheng out, sat in his place, and held Ji An.

Kong Zhongcheng was bewildered, “Boss, didn’t you always drive when we go on missions?”

Wan Xueying slapped him on the head, “If he tells you to drive, just drive. What’s with all the nonsense!”

Kong Zhongcheng could only obediently sit in the driver’s seat. This time, no one dared to stop them, allowing the car to speed past, leaving behind blinding dust.

Chen Chen and the others standing in the front were choked by the dust and coughed hard, Chen Chen even coughing up a few mouthfuls of blood.
