Chapter 72 “When the stars align, we…”

“Giggle…” The girl’s gloomy murmur became softer, just as Serra knew, Yun Jiaran wasn’t inherently tyrannical and cruel; she was merely forced by her experiences and environment to become someone covered in thorns.

But under the gentle comfort of her trusted teacher, a bright and soft light rippled around her. A peculiar and unstoppable mystical force, like all-pervasive warm water, invigorated every insectoid’s spirit.

A profound and mysterious epiphany rose from the depths of each of their hearts. They didn’t need to be told; they already understood what it was.

It was the Mother Goddess’s call, her gentle whisper in their ears, the divine revelation she bestowed upon them.

The entire training ground became so silent that a pin drop could be heard, with only the buzzing of the camera robots. Every insectoid could only hear their own heartbeat, and the silence the Mother Goddess cast into their minds.

Their hearts beat wildly, originating from the instinct of life, the fanaticism and loyalty in their genes almost making them stare unblinkingly at Serra on the high platform, and the unignorable bone-white snake that climbed onto his shoulder. Without any of the insectoids realizing it, a resonance originating from their souls had already begun. In the higher dimensions, their mental maps were breathing and extending with a rhythm tending towards consistency.

The feeling was wonderful. Insectoids worshipped power. Their lives were filled with tyrannical and lethal power. Their ears had always been filled with powerful threats, punishments, and judgments. The power of male insectoids was tyrannical, and the power of female insectoids and Yaci also carried killing intent and cruelty. The military C Crazy went back and forth between life and death in wars. They thought they knew the origin of power.

    Power is slaughter.

    Power is rule.

The Church praised the Mother Goddess’s power countless times. That irresistible, incomparable power could decide life and death with a single thought. For Yaci and female insectoids, creations disliked by the Mother Goddess, their sole purpose for existence was to prove their value to male insectoids and the insectoid society. Only then would the high and mighty Mother Goddess allow them to barely survive and allow their lives to exist.

For thousands of years, the Church had brainwashed them time and time again. Over time, not only the male insectoids who preached it believed it, but most of the female insectoids and Yaci also accepted their fate. Just as Marshal Ax had said, the Mother Goddess would not care for them. This statement itself was impossible for female insectoids and Yaci to refute—weren’t the past events clear enough? The Mother Goddess’s effigy enshrined on the Church’s altar had always only indulged male insectoids who possessed God strength.

But at this moment, when the insectoids’ mental energy began to resonate under an unknown and gentle power, when life, like a steaming hot spring in winter, flowed through their parched limbs, when an unprecedented epiphany entered their minds in an instant, a nearly unfamiliar world unfolded before them. In this world, everything was the same as before, and everything was completely different.

The power from the Mother Goddess was not to harm and rule them. The Mother Goddess’s power had no discrimination against life. Her caress on their souls had no coercive meaning. In just a short moment, the lies of the male insectoid society that had lasted for thousands of years crumbled, and the order that the Church had imposed on life vanished.

For the first time, the insectoids knew that there was a power that did not need the assistance of blood and violence, nor did it need coercion and suppression to succeed. It was understanding, truth, and tolerance in the dark.

This was the power of the Mother Goddess, the power she used to create life and create the world.

Serra’s dark mental tendrils, without being summoned, had already torn through the space barrier, falling from the void, dancing gently with the Mother Goddess’s soft white light. Yun Jiaran climbed from Serra’s arm to his shoulder, and finally to the top of Serra’s head. She used her pure white snake head to overlook the silent and densely packed military C Crazy below the platform, looking at their pious faces and the pure yearning and admiration for life in their eyes. A strange yet familiar comfort struck her.

    Life…

Since transmigrating, Yun Jiaran had not been awake for long. Her strongest feeling was weakness. The power that belonged to her was being slowly drawn from her body like blood. She couldn’t sleep peacefully. The entire universe seemed to be whispering curses in her ears. She couldn’t wake up. The flame in her body was about to be extinguished, and she knew in the dark that when the star went out, she would also fall into eternal silence.

In this strange world, she was the loneliest person. The voices in her ears disgusted her, and the images that flashed from time to time made her feel nauseous and inexplicably embarrassed. This was far from the world she wanted. This world was filled with gender violence, oppression, conspiracy, and genocide. She had countless connections to this world, but that alone was enough to make her incredibly disgusted.

She didn’t have the strength to investigate the reason, nor did she know how to change it. She seemed to not even have a body, and could only be forced to listen to the endless malice of the universe, like a malfunctioning receiver. Over time, she had already given up in absolute loneliness and disappointment, until she heard a familiar heart sound.

That was… her Teacher Lin. The only person who didn’t look at her with strange eyes when she was a human girl, the only one who understood and cared for her.

She exhausted her strength to possess the artifact and saved Serra once. Since then, Yun Jiaran had begun to try to escape her predicament, desperately capturing the sound of Serra’s soul, using it as an anchor. And at this moment, she succeeded again, but also realized that this world was not only Teacher Lin, but also a soul worth listening to.

Countless small, tenacious lives were still struggling in the wilderness, and whether she was willing to admit it or not, these lives… seemed to be inexplicably related to her.

She looked at them, and as a human, she sang for the way life burned and danced, but as a star slowly dying in eternal silence, as a god who overlooked all living beings and didn’t care—she was indifferent.

Failed products. She looked at the male insectoids, female insectoids, and Yaci, thinking. The lives created by relying on her power were arrogant, reckless, mutually exclusive, and fickle. They had no morals, no mercy, no mutual love. They were a group of inferior defective products. A great purge might take them away, and this universe would give birth to new life under the mercy of God.

These lowly lives were not worthy of God’s salvation, not worthy of a second chance. They would usher in self-destruction, and the God’s ears would return to purity.

Her power was steaming, no one knew the turbulence of her soul, only Serra gently called her name in his mind.

    “Jiaran.”

–Student Yun, your teacher hopes that no matter what happens, don’t forget where you come from.

Suddenly, pure white divine light rippled out, covering even Serra’s dark mental tendrils. Beside Serra, Edwin, who was immersed in the Mother Goddess’s power, flashed with panic and fear in his eyes. He was unwilling to resist the Mother Goddess, but his worry for Serra overwhelmed all other emotions. He suddenly released his wings and reached out to Serra with both hands, but was intercepted by Serra in mid-air.

The young male insectoid showed him a comforting smile. The pure white light on the male insectoid’s head was even brighter, and his power and tendrils were completely released, including the antennae symbolizing his male insectoid identity and the dark, scorpion-like tail hook.

He held Edwin’s hand, and under the interweaving of various forces, slowly ascended into the air, and Yun Jiaran’s whisper rang in his mind:

“Teacher Lin, I will not forget who I am.”

——I will always respect life, I will keep my original heart, I will see through the chaotic predicament, I will walk out of that dark and noisy abyss.

You see, God loves the world, is the most ridiculous lie in this world. Will the tide pity the sand, will the starlight pity the dust? Those who truly respect life are only life itself, and those who truly love the world are only compatriots who are both mortals, only souls that are tightly connected by life and memory.

Mother Goddess——perhaps until this moment, the insectoid’s God, could truly be called a “Mother Goddess” because of Yun Jiaran’s adherence to her original heart.

Yun Jiaran raised her pure white and small snake head, a scale-shaped mark appeared on her forehead, and water-like energy quickly overflowed, taking Serra and Edwin, whose wings were spread, into the air. Although Serra didn’t know what was happening, he completely trusted his student—Yun Jiaran was the most tenacious, stubborn, and unyielding person he had ever met. His trust in her character and power would not waver.

He comfortingly held Edwin’s tense fingers in his hands and looked with him at the military C Crazy on the training ground, and also through the camera of the robot, at all the living beings in this universe.

A soft voice that all insectoids had never heard before sounded in all insectoids’ ears, it was Yun Jiaran’s voice——a unique gentle voice belonging to a female. It was as soft as starlight in the night, and as moist as the lake breeze in midsummer. It flowed in the air, almost instantly seizing the hearts of all insectoids.

    It sang softly:

“In the universe, I listen to your voices”

“From the beginning of all things to the collapse of black holes”

    “The stars whisper to me”

    “Guiding your way home”

“Rebels and resisters, remember my words, remember this melody”

    “When the stars align”

“That is the guide to your return home”

“I want you to look up at the stars”

“The depths of the nebula are your hometown”

“You just need to look up at the stars”

“Remember that I am with you”

    “Everything will be solved”

The soft voice came from all directions, but completely fell into the ears of every insectoid. The military C Crazy had always believed in the maxim of not revealing weakness, but at this moment, tens of thousands of military C Crazy shed tears hastily. They didn’t know what the emotions surging from their chests were, but they were more determined and clear-headed than ever before.

They looked up at Serra and Edwin, who were suspended in mid-air, at the pure white bone snake circling their heads and the dazzling but soft halo. Edwin’s wings fluttered gently, hovering in mid-air almost blankly, holding his hands, which were trembling slightly because of tension, and staring blankly by Serra, whose was the only one keeping calm.

He was no different from the other insectoids, looking up at the bone snake on Serra’s head that was almost insignificant, tears streaming down his eyes. The childlike desire he revealed for Yun Jiaran’s singing made Serra feel heartache——Serra, as an atheist, might never understand what the Mother Goddess meant to the insectoid.

For a female insectoid like Edwin, who had been told since birth that he was a defective product, he was like a homeless person who had been hungry and cold all his life, suddenly being pulled into a noble palace and crowned with the crown of a king——he didn’t even dare to believe it, his body couldn’t distinguish between reality and illusion, his memory screamed to shed tears, but his soul——

——his soul recognized his creator, he knew it was the Mother Goddess.

    “When the stars align”

    “Everything will be solved…”

The ethereal and extremely gentle singing gradually dissipated in the air, along with the dazzling white halo around the bone snake. Yun Jiaran climbed down from Serra’s curly hair and coiled back onto Serra’s arm. Her slightly tired voice rang in Serra’s mind:

“Teacher Lin, I’m out of energy. You have to seize the opportunity! The situation is very good! The real reason I came this time was to tell you that I am imprisoned in the sky above Capital Star, and I am not free. Something is extracting my power, and I can’t stop them. Although I haven’t found a way to break the situation yet, I won’t give up… I will continue to listen to those noisy voices, listen to the whispers from the depths of the universe and the prophecies about the stars… I want to live with my current identity, I still want to be Yun Jiaran, and I will not allow anything to enshrine my corpse in the shrine.”

The girl’s voice in front of Serra faded away from its contrived gentleness, and became full of vitality again, slightly neurotic. Serra showed a smile at her eternally unquenchable vitality, wanting very much to pat the girl’s furry head:

“I’ll find a way, Jiaran. Thank you, hold on a little longer, your teacher will not break his promise—no insectoid can steal your identity and do dirty things again. I will not allow it.”

“You are the most tenacious person I have ever met, Jiaran. I am an atheist, and I never believe in gods, but—if you are really the Mother Goddess in the insectoid’s mouth, then the insectoid are a lucky race.”

“Oh…” Yun Jiaran, who was praised, was a little embarrassed. She changed her position on Serra’s arm tiredly, covering her delicate little white snake head with her tail.

“I’m waiting for you, Teacher Lin.”

With that, the white light around them completely went out. Serra’s thick mental tendrils shook as if to keep her, like the abyss sighing with unclear meaning, and Edwin’s wings paused for a moment before slowly landing from mid-air with Serra.

His eyes still contained tears, and the fingers held in Serra’s hands trembled slightly. The other insectoids present, and even the insectoids watching the live broadcast, were no different. The wind seemed to stop because of this great miracle, and it was silent all around.

Until Edwin spoke again on the high platform:

“When the stars align, we will smooth the way home for our compatriots.”

His voice wasn’t loud, but it allowed all the insectoids to hear it clearly. Countless military C Crazy followed his voice, pressing their clenched right hands to their chests, and hot tears fell from their eyes, and shining light fell into their eyes.

At this moment, they were very different from those silent puppets. They were like warriors from hell in a mural, waking up from a long sleep and erosion, and the fighting spirit bursting out fiercely from their lives would make any race and civilization in the universe frightened.

Killing tools were given a mission and meaning, their souls were no longer silent, and Serra knew that the revolution had begun from this moment.

He retreated behind Edwin again, not sharing this moment with the military C Crazy, and the Yaci and female insectoids across the screen. He rolled his eyes, and his malicious gaze fell on the male insectoids who had welded silent horror on their faces:

“Yo, you guys are still here?”

    –How many pissed their pants?

The handsome male insectoid teenager didn’t say it explicitly, but the corners of his lips, which were raised wickedly, explained everything. The group of male insectoids, as if waking up from a nightmare, retreated a step in unison, tripping over their left feet on their right feet, falling all over the ground, the scene was particularly funny.

But they, who had always been the focus of attention of the insectoid, were not cared for by any insectoid at this moment.

The network—whether it was the male insectoid’s star network or the female insectoid’s and Yaci’s bracelet network, was overloaded at this moment because of the huge amount of browsing and communication. The eyes of hundreds of millions of lives converged at the border garrison of the Fourth Army, witnessing a miracle worthy of being recorded in history.
