    Chapter 39: “Teacher Lin… hiss… hiss…”

As Serra’s mental tendrils gradually subsided, the protective shield of Duke Noah’s mansion slowly rose. The robots, dismembered in the chaos, welded themselves back together, reforming a new line of defense.

The authority over the manor was transferred, and the robots’ allegiance automatically shifted to Edwin. Countless eyes stared intently at the young male insectoid kneeling on the ground, thick, black-red blood dripping from his tender, chubby fingertips.

In the gazes of the assembled Chong, the young male insectoid remained motionless. A vast wave of fear surged in Sison’s chest, but he quickly regained his composure. He grasped Edwin’s shoulder and softly asked, “Do we leave, or do we stay?”

The current situation was something no one had foreseen. No matter how terrified and frantic they were, the cold-bloodedness and decisiveness honed on the battlefield allowed Sison to regain his senses.

This was the worst possible outcome – they had lost the Young Male Master. Everything he had built, everything he had done for the female Chong and sub-male Chong, would crumble because of his departure.

Reason told Sison that it didn’t really matter. Female Chong and sub-male Chong had endured this way for thousands of years. They had only briefly experienced a rare, easy time because of a strange young male insectoid’s change of temperament. After that time passed, everything would return to normal – the punishments, the pain, the death, the bewilderment, and the suffering. None of the female Chong or sub-male Chong would be arrogant enough to think they were unfamiliar with the “original world.”

In reality, that was the world they knew, the familiar shape. They woke from the pain and numbness, allowing the male insectoid or the Church’s discipline to lash their bodies. They rejected the bland nutrient injections. They breathed, watching the Chong related to them – usually starting with their male parent – disappear one by one from their lives. Finally, they found that time had only left them with scarred bodies riddled with Pheromone Collapse Syndrome, and a dim, meaningless existence.

They called this existence life, and the Church said their suffering was their ticket to redemption.

Frankly, Sison didn’t know what the point was in leaving the Duke’s mansion. They, this group of female Chong and sub-male Chong from the Duke’s mansion, would become fugitives. Among them, only he and Edwin had combat experience, and Edwin…

Sison looked at Edwin, who was barely standing in front of him and seemed to have already melted his body into the void, and knew that Edwin could hardly be considered combat-capable anymore.

Sison could understand Edwin. Edwin didn’t have his own biological male child; the Young Male Master was like his own cub to him. Sison had always thought Edwin was lucky, because the Young Male Master was too strong as a cub. He was still a male insectoid. In the Empire, it was difficult for any Chong to worry about a male insectoid facing any life threats. Most of them were aloof, wielding the power of life and death, cruel and bloodthirsty.

Edwin was lucky, so when misfortune struck, he would be a hundred times more painful than an ordinary male parent who had lost a child. Sison could completely understand, but…

But what the Young Male Master wanted had always been Edwin’s safety. He had instructed Sison, he had made contingency plans for things developing poorly, he had asked Sison to protect Edwin, take him to a safe place, and contact the female Chong Krisson at the research institute.

Everything the Young Male Master had done, his unfinished business, hadn’t been completely destroyed by the Church yet. Edwin, the one he cared about the most, was still alive, and Sison—Sison had already experienced too many meaningless times; he didn’t want to endure it anymore.

Either way, they only had a dead end. When the Church’s male insectoid came back to their senses, the last remaining female Chong and sub-male Chong in Noah Duke’s Mansion would face the most cruel punishments and interrogations. Escape would definitely not end well either. Even if Sison still maintained the ability of a military female, taking them to the chaotic area of the fringe star, they would most likely die of resource depletion, Imperial encirclement and suppression, and Pheromone Collapse Syndrome.

Since either way they were going to die, this time, Sison didn’t want to stay and endure the old life that was about to return, especially after he had glimpsed the light of a new world.

He gently turned Edwin’s stiff body around. He could feel Edwin’s gaze still fixed on the Young Male Master’s rigid figure. Sison also tried hard not to look at that overly young and overly familiar body. He didn’t think his sanity could withstand such a blow.

“Edwin, we have to go. This is what the Young Male Master wanted you to do.” This was his last wish.

But to his surprise, Edwin, whose body was weak and whose wings had been torn to shreds, shook off his hand. He watched Edwin stagger forward almost blankly, stopping half a meter away from the Young Male Master’s body.

“You go, Sison. The further the better. I… male parent can’t leave his cub.”

Behind his pale skin, his Adam’s apple bobbed slightly: “Young Male Master is here. They killed Young Male Master. I’m going to kill them.”

Sison’s suppressed grief had nowhere to hide. He grabbed Edwin’s wrist, but was shaken off again:

“Now is not a good battle opportunity, Edwin. You are a General; you know that bets cannot be placed on a single battle.”

“Sison male parent, don’t say anything.”

A much younger voice sounded from behind Sison. He turned around and saw Elen, the young male child of Noah Duke’s Mansion, tightening his grip on the particle gun:

“I’m not leaving either. Young Male Master is dead, male father is paralyzed. Where can we escape to? The Church won’t let us go, especially since Bishop Sass died in the Duke’s Mansion.”

Elen’s eyes stared at Edwin’s back. His male parent, Emino—the sub-male Chong who had once been the most favored by the old Duke Noah and could even be described as spoiled—was now so frightened by the sudden turn of events that he had collapsed to the ground, muttering to himself distractedly.

Elen glanced at his male parent with pity, took a step forward, and activated all the weapons on his body:

“There’s no better opportunity than this, Sison male parent. Have you ever killed a male insectoid? Look at Bishop Sass when he died, so charred and ugly, haha, how is that any different from us female Chong and sub-male Chong? Their robots have all been tampered with by the Young Male Master, Sison male parent, there is no better battle opportunity than now.”

As he spoke, he actually revealed a somewhat neurotic smile. He turned around and greeted his young attendants. Most of those sub-male Chong and female Chong also raised their weapons and even opened their gun bolts.

Most of the female Chong and sub-male Chong in the Duke’s Mansion had no intention of leaving. They silently moved forward, standing behind Edwin. Sison and the other few Chong in the Duke’s Mansion looked at them in shock, as if they didn’t recognize these companions they lived with day and night. Elen slapped Sison on the shoulder and leaned over to laugh:

“Sison male parent, to be honest, I have always hated you and Edwin. You two are just pretentious old fogeys! No wonder the Imperial Army is completely finished and has been taken over by the Church—” He paused, and when his gaze swept over Serra’s stiff little body, he restrained his smile:

“But please, Sison male parent, since we’re all going to die anyway, killing a few Church male insectoids… this will all be much more worthwhile, right?”

Sison frowned. He had to admit that Elen had some truth in his words. He and his male parent, Emino, looked very similar and were the type that male insectoids liked, delicate and slender. Sison only knew that his female Chong grade was not low, but Emino asked the male master not to send his own male child to the army, fearing that Elen would become “crude, strong, and disliked by future male masters.”

Emino skimped on Elen’s nutrient injections. When Elen was younger, Sison, out of pity, left half of his rationed nutrient injection for him, but that half of the nutrient injection was knocked to the ground by the rebellious male Chong cub. Not only that, but Elen also beat Ilia and looked up with disdain at Sison, who was countless times stronger than him:

“Sison male parent, do you meddle in other people’s business so much in the army? No wonder you are such a terrible military female.”

Now it seemed that Emino’s efforts were all in vain—his male child had still grown into a rebellious and unloved appearance that went against his expectations.

Sison’s heart was suddenly touched by something. He thought of Ilia, his Ilia—the sub-male Chong child who was already deeply trapped in the Church. He didn’t know if he would be able to see Ilia again in his lifetime, and he guessed that he couldn’t.

He pulled back the bolt and began to make simple strategic deployments for the female Chong and sub-male Chong in the Duke’s Mansion who had decided to fight. And he found that Edwin was doing the same thing to the robots.

While he wasn’t paying attention, Edwin had already begun to undergo Chong transformation. Magma-like Chong patterns crawled onto Edwin’s face. His azure eyes turned crimson in the intense pain of losing Serra. Scarlet claws emerged from his fingertips, and the broken and remaining wings spread out again behind him, like a flag stained with blood and dirt, determined to die.

    “…I will protect…I will protect you, Young Male Master…my…my male child…my cub…”

He murmured, obviously having lost his mind. The flames of burning life rose around him, and Sison was shocked that he could still drive such a huge amount of energy after being tortured by Pheromone Collapse Syndrome for so long.

The firelight reflected in the eyes of the Chong of the Church, causing them to erupt in uncontrollable commotion. They had originally been frightened and grieved by Bishop Sass’s death. From Bishop Sandersfi to the humble sub-male Chong and female Chong, they all knew that the news of losing Bishop Sass would shock the Church, and the Pope would be extremely angry. They would definitely be implicated.

In fear, they stiffened in place, hoping that Bishop Sass would be resurrected under the care of the Mother Goddess—he had lived for more than five hundred years, hadn’t he? He was deeply favored by the gods and could even wield artifacts. He would definitely not die!

But what came before Bishop Sass’s resurrection was Edwin’s flame of revenge. The weak body of the male Chong who had lost his child drove a huge amount of energy, and firelight smashed at the male insectoid of the Church like a meteor shower.

In this rain of fire, Edwin’s pale face was covered with intricate flame patterns. Those Chong patterns that were regarded as lowly and dirty by the male insectoid seemed almost sacred and perfect in the flames. In a cruel scarlet, Edwin’s eyes were gently lowered, his gaze lingering on the motionless young male insectoid on the ground, his arm curled up slightly, as if giving the lifeless young male insectoid a hug from afar. Like a young and innocent mother carved into an idol.

    “…I’m sorry…”

He whispered, and then flew towards the male insectoid of the Church like a black flame, with streamers and burning heat. The robots around him received instructions, and they spread out their mechanical wings and changed their formation to surround the direction of the Church’s retreat. The Chong of the Church sucked in a breath of cold air. Several male insectoid were extremely angry and screamed:

“Rebellion! Rebellion! Damn female Chong, they want to rebel!”

They fled in terror. Some male insectoid even stepped on their own red robes and fell to the ground. The Church’s remaining female Chong were forced to spread their wings and block the energy attacks of the fire rain for their male masters, screaming in agony as they were burned.

Sandersfi roared, “Waste, quickly push the female Chong out! This damned blasphemer has not been marked by a male insectoid, he is already at the end of his rope! Bitch female! Quickly protect your male master. If the male insectoid is injured, you and your cubs will all be thrown into hell, skinned and deboned!”

After saying that, he released his mental tendrils. Two dark yellow tendrils attacked Edwin in mid-air, but he didn’t expect that the female Chong with broken wings actually dodged it. Large beads of cold sweat fell from Sandersfi’s forehead, but fortunately, the other male insectoid of the Church also quickly threw out their tendrils. Those high-dimensional male insectoid tendrils were not harmed by most of the flames and quickly struck several female Chong in the Duke’s Mansion, causing them to fall. A few tendrils barely brushed the corner of Edwin’s clothes, almost causing him to fall to his death as well.

Edwin’s particle gun hit the wings that the Church’s female Chong had propped up. The Church’s female Chong and sub-male Chong screamed, but they couldn’t retreat, and they didn’t dare to retreat. Edwin’s flames made them tremble all over. Most of the robots were also blocked by them. Everything was so chaotic, death, blood, and violence were staged in turn, but Edwin only felt peace.

This was the battlefield he had relied on to survive.

He broke through the layers of defense, and the lightsaber in his hand suddenly pierced Sandersfi’s left shoulder. The eloquent and noble male insectoid Bishop screamed loudly, bleeding bright red blood, and his tendrils also pierced Edwin’s lower abdomen. In an instant, the mental impact of the male insectoid tendrils almost caused Edwin to lose his mind, but his body still maintained its attacking posture.

    My cub…

This was the only thought in his mind, so pure that it even temporarily caused the male insectoid mental energy to lose its influence.

Fresh blood gurgled out, and the light in Edwin’s eyes gradually dimmed…

But in a corner that no one was checking, on Bishop Sass’s black corpse, a small bone-white snake suddenly swam, swimming towards the kneeling and motionless stiff young male insectoid.

“Teacher Lin… hiss… hiss… University student is here… wait for me to get it…”
