Chapter 58: Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder

The corridor was empty at the end, the dim light faintly outlining the slender and upright figures of the two men. Qi Luzhi embraced Lian Xun, his chin resting on his shoulder.

“Do you really have to move back?”

He had grown accustomed to Lian Xun harassing him in his office whenever he had nothing to do. The thought of not seeing him all day filled him with a sense of emptiness.

“I’m just moving back to work, not to live. I’ll still come back at night,” Lian Xun comforted him. “Besides, there are weekends, there are holidays, we can spend the whole day together.”

    “Not enough.”

Qi Luzhi tightened his arms around Lian Xun’s waist, his nose gently nuzzling his neck.

“Stop nuzzling, it tickles.” Lian Xun dodged backward, forcing Qi Luzhi to look him in the eye. “I’m reluctant too, but I’m the boss of Xun Qi Technologies, I have to think about my employees.”

Lian Xun knew Qi Luzhi’s clinginess better than anyone, but even for the closest of couples, wanting to be together every moment was an unrealistic fantasy.

Lian Xun wasn’t a caged canary; Qi Luzhi couldn’t keep him by his side, just for his own enjoyment.

Now it was just about not being together during the day for work, but in the future, Lian Xun might have to travel around the world for business trips, leaving for a week, a month, or even several months…

This wasn’t something that could be solved by avoidance.

“I understand,” Qi Luzhi sighed softly.

He understood the reasoning, but he always felt a sense of resistance from the bottom of his heart towards the idea of separation.

“Okay, let’s go back to the private room, don’t let us get seen again,” Lian Xun said guiltily, glancing around, pushing the unwilling Qi Luzhi back.

*Sigh*, I’ll have to coax him properly when we get back tonight.

    Another Monday arrived.

Today was the day Xun Qi Technologies moved out of Sheng Shao Group. The employees happily packed their belongings, their faces filled with the joy of finally seeing the end of their suffering.

In the president’s office, Lian Xun clung tightly to Qi Luzhi’s neck, wailing incoherently.

“What should I do? I really have to move back, I’m so reluctant to leave you, Qi *gege*.”

“If I told them not to move now, would they want to beat me to death?”

“Yes,” Qi Luzhi said with certainty.

“Aww, I regret it, I should have told them to wait until after the public beta to move back.”

Lian Xun hadn’t expected that when the day of departure actually arrived, he would be even more reluctant to leave than Qi Luzhi.

“It’s too late to regret it now,” Qi Luzhi reluctantly kissed Lian Xun’s forehead, repeatedly instructing him, “Don’t skip lunch, don’t associate with those small bosses with ulterior motives, don’t work overtime too late, come back early tonight…”

“Also, if you miss me, call me anytime.”

“I know,” Lian Xun buried his face in Qi Luzhi’s arms, trying his best to suppress the urge to cry.

He didn’t want to go out with red eyes and be laughed at by his employees.

Lian Xun didn’t want to leave, and the departure time was delayed again and again, while in the other president’s office next door, a similar scene of reluctant farewell was unfolding.

Li Yang cornered Ling Yu, kissing him while complaining in a low voice, “You just agreed to be with me and now you have to move away, your boss is so annoying.”

Ling Yu’s face was flushed from the kisses. He wanted to speak up for his boss, but he couldn’t utter a single sound.

This trip back to Ling Yu’s hometown with Li Yang hadn’t been in vain after all. Who knew what methods he had used, but in just a few days, he had won the heart of his beauty.

Lian Xun returned to the office, taking one last look at the place that held so many important memories for him. He counted the number of people to prepare for the departure, but found one person missing.

“Where’s Ling Yu?” Lian Xun asked the other employees.

Everyone shook their heads. “I don’t know, we haven’t seen Assistant Ling since this morning.”

    “Bo, boss, I’m back.”

Just then, Ling Yu ran in from the door in a fluster, the hem of his white shirt disheveled, his face seemingly flushed.

“Where did you run off to? Everyone’s waiting for you, quickly pack your things and get ready to go,” Lian Xun urged.

“I, I had a bad stomach today, I was in the restroom just now, I’m sorry boss,” Ling Yu lied.

He felt particularly guilty now, feeling sorry for his boss.

His boss was so good to him, and instead of focusing on work, he was secretly starting an office romance.

“Alright, hurry up and pack,” Lian Xun didn’t ask any further questions, his eyes falling on Ling Yu’s rosy cheeks, a meaningful smile on his face.

After several months, the group returned to the small office in Heng Feng Building. The few employees who had stayed behind were overjoyed to see the boss return.

“Boss, it wasn’t easy for us to hold down the fort, are you really not considering treating everyone to a meal to reward us?” someone whined, trying to gain sympathy.

Lian Xun waved his hand generously. “No problem, I’ll take everyone out for dinner tonight.”

As a good boss who cared about his employees, this little request was nothing.

In the afternoon, Lian Xun sat at his desk in a daze, unable to concentrate on his work.

On the first day back, the withdrawal symptoms were severe.

Qi Luzhi was the same, frequently looking at his watch during the meeting, wondering why time was passing so slowly.

The employee who was speaking on the stage saw Qi’s face so grim and kept looking at the time, and couldn’t help but speculate whether he was speaking too badly, and Qi was implying that he should end it quickly.

Before getting off work, Lian Xun sent a message to Qi Luzhi saying that the company was having a dinner party and he would be home later. Qi Luzhi frowned slightly and replied, “Okay.”

Halfway through the meal, Lian Xun received another message from Qi Luzhi asking where he was, and Lian Xun sent him a location.

After the party ended, the employees left one after another. Lian Xun stood at the entrance of the hotel and saw the familiar Bentley parked across the road at a glance.

He trotted over, jumped into the passenger seat, and kissed Qi Luzhi on the face.

“Was work smooth today?” Qi Luzhi asked.

    Lian Xun: “Not very smooth.”

“Why?” Qi Luzhi cast a worried look.

Lian Xun approached Qi Luzhi, staring into his eyes and smiling, “Absence makes the heart grow fonder.”

The worry in Qi Luzhi’s eyes dissipated, and he slightly curled the corners of his lips. “I knew you would miss me.”

    His tone was very proud.

Lian Xun was unconvinced. “I think you missed me more, that’s why you insisted on picking me up even though I said I could drive back myself.”

Qi Luzhi did not deny it. He held Lian Xun’s hand, still unwilling to give up. “Have you considered moving the company over here? Sheng Shao Group still has vacant floors, I can help you pay the rent.”
